Thank you for presenting the NFL on NBC theme from the 70's. One of my favorite intros before an NFL televised game. The intensity of the theme music, the big, strong men suiting up for the big game, the saxophones heralding the combat on the field. It really, truly, inspired me as a kid to emulate the power of hitting, the finesse of passing, the precision of kicking, and the endurance of speed and quickness. Overall, while I had admired those characteristics of the game for some time, this intro greatly enhanced my admiration much more.
The greatest! Sports theme music 🎶 in the history of sports television! Period!! Takes me back to my childhood days watching The NFL on NBC back in 72-73
Yes indeed. I remember this jintro prior to NBC baseball game of week (Saturday mornings) in the summer of 1975. This to brings back wonderful childhood memories.
This will sound crazy to kids today, but back then the network games still had a AFL/NFL feel to them. My father was a Dolphins fan. So the big tv stayed in NBC. I liked the NFL TODAY on CBS as a kid and became a Giants fan. Very interesting looking back on it now.
Top five for sure. The CBS NFL Today with Brent ,Irv, Jimmy the Greek, etc. Monday Night Football with Cosell, Gifford, etc. "Round Ball Rock" NBA on NBC during the Jordan era.
Just finished watching replays of the 1976 World Series between the Yankees and Reds, and they used this theme during the closing credits. Loved hearing this again, what a great theme!!
Yeah !!! Joe Rudi catch ,Pete Rose running , Vida Blue pitching , Roberto Clemente throwing, Earl Weaver arguing, Reggie Jackson swinging, Sparky Anderson sitting in the dugout ,Carlton Fisk hitting the famous homerun & Rollie Fingers jumping in celebration with Sal Bando , Gene Tenace , Bert Campanaris and Dick Green 😄👍✌🏼
1:34 The King of the Jingle Jake Holmes ("Be a Pepper", "Be All That You Can Be"). Also did Firestone jingles, too. THE voice of the 1970's and 1980's commercials.
Yes, the great Jingle Jake! Also "Raise your hand if you're Sure," "Gillette, the best a man can get," "Come see the softer side of Sears" and "Help yourself to Stouffer's pizza" and many more.
Most likely aired December 30, 1973 prior to the AFC Championship Game between Oakland and Miami. Miami won 27-10 and advanced to Super Bowl VIII where they defeated the Vikings 24-7 at Rice Stadium in Houston.
The NBC script moving from right to left with the lines reminds me of an old wire service teletype machine. The sound going with it makes it sound like one.
Hold on....I have to adjust the 'rabbit ears' for better reception on my Zenith portable 13'' B&W. I just got done watching Haystack Calhoun get beat by Andre the Giant, now i'm ready for some football.
Makes you want to go out in the street and throw the football. Good times in the 70's. The snowflakes of today will never know that fun. Kinda feel sorry for them!!
That sort of signature was given the disco treatment in the latter part of the 70's. I do not myself remember this theme as I was perhaps a baby. But hearing it...ooh, if only the suits at NBC/Comcast would bring this back...yes even with the modern-day NFL players, it would up their ratings...about a half point.
There's a 1974 intro circulating that was recorded off Mobile, AL's then-NBC (now FOX) affiliate WALA before a game between the Dolphins and Bills that had the beginning of the sponsor tag before cutting out (that version, though, was preserved off a kinescope and thus is in black and white)
Also covered NHL IN 1974 - 1975 put it this way the 2 seasons the Philadelphia Flyers affectionately known as " The Broad Street Bullies " won back to back Stanley Cups in 74 over Bobby Orr & the Boston Bruins in 6 games and in 75 over Rene ' Robert and the Buffalo Sabres also in 6 games !!!!
Wow great! When the NFL had dynasties. When the players didn't celebrate like a bunch of imbicels after every tackle. When they called an avg. of 6 penelties per game, now its over 20 by the "new" incompetent ref. I wonder why?
0:27 Everything about NBC has always been just hipper, jazzier and more sophisticated than the other networks. 1:34 The singing voice of the great Jingle Jake Holmes for Delco. 2:10 Victor Bozeman, one of NBC's best Burbank-based staff announcers.
why the watermark over the video you dont own the rights and it detracts from the video just sayin remove leasewe are inundated with enough advertising
I still love this 49 years later!!!!!
Yes, it is just awesome stuff. This was the heyday for nfl broadcasting❤
Arguably the best sports theme music NBC ever used.
You're so right
Inarguably the best sports theme I've ever heard.
not arguably....definitely!!
Concur 100. Never gets old.
NBC also used this theme music for their NHL Game of the Week in 1974 and 1975. Classic.

This was one of the best football theme music of all time and NBC should bring this theme music back!
Maybe but the Sunday Night Football theme they have now is the Creme de la Creme! What is the name of the song though that was used back then
Agreed
Absolutely!
Most definitely should bring it back ! Heck even just for one Sunday night.
@@DocD-d9b I concur!

100% Agree!
It just sounds like 1974 in the best possible way....you can close your eyes and go back to that time
I wish I could for real . Disappear in a chair to 1974 .
Agree
I love seeing those clips in the opening montage of players I grew up with.
I forgot about this theme song. It’s excellent. Love the sax. The old MNF theme was cool, but this one combined soulfulness with drama. Love it.
This will sound crazy to kids today, but back then the network games still had a AFL/NFL feel to them. My father was a Dolphins fan. So the big tv stayed in NBC. I liked the NFL TODAY on CBS as a kid and became a Giants fan. Very interesting looking back on it now.
Oh such Good Times; Brent Musberger n them I tell ya!
THE BEST. PERIOD! Keyboards and Sax AMAZING! Bring it back!
The NFL on NBC continued to used this theme song during the updates on games during the 1980 and 81 seasons, it never got old.
I would love to see NBC use this intro this season in honor of #NFL100.
Not just NBC, this is the best theme music ever used by any and all networks.
Top five for sure. The CBS NFL Today with Brent ,Irv, Jimmy the Greek, etc. Monday Night Football with Cosell, Gifford, etc. "Round Ball Rock" NBA on NBC during the Jordan era.
ABC's Wide World of Sports. Monday Night Baseball, 1979
Wide World definitely #2 after this.
1986 NBA Finals on CBS was great because it included great narration.
Just finished watching replays of the 1976 World Series between the Yankees and Reds, and they used this theme during the closing credits. Loved hearing this again, what a great theme!!
Our high school marching band played a version of this during pregame warmups. It got our blood pumping.
Simply the best music ever! What memories. Carlton Fisk game 6.

Thanks so much for posting. Best NFL Theme music ever!
That theme is awesome. NBC should go back to using it for SNF instead of that lame theme song they have now.
NBC also used this theme music for its NHL Game of the Week in 1975. Great music.
This automatically takes me back to lying on the floor with mounds of football cards watching the game trying to find the players in my collection.
When the NFL was on NBC on Sunday afternoons when the AFC was playing.
This gives me chills in 2020 makes u want to tackle ur brother in slow motion
Or set up a tower of couch cushions and use it as a tackling dummy.
@@Lima_Golf_Bravo ur Soo right lol
I did tackle my brother in slow motion in 1974 thanks to this intro… ran for touchdowns too!
@@reforger839 lol
Reforger 83? What month I was in Germany during reforger 83
In my opinion, the best sports theme music of all time.
I was so sad when in the late 70s they went to a different version of this song, this IS the best!!!
1:34 The King of the Jingle Jake Holmes ("Be a Pepper", "Be All That You Can Be"). Also did Firestone jingles, too. THE voice of the 1970's and 1980's commercials.
Kurtis Seaboldt Never knew that guys name but I’ve heard his jingles for decades.

It is- Tim Ryan did the billboards for that/ halftime and postgame- full game posted elsewhere here
He also, at the time, did sports (alternating with Dick Schaap) for WNBC-4 in New York.
I could never figure out why the NFL played the 8th and only Super Bowl at Rice Stadium.
@@headley62 VIII was to be played in Houston. Because the Astrodome only held 50000, Rice Stadium was chosen because of it's capacity of 70k+
I think the player getting suited- up is Guard Bob Keutchenberg of the Dolphins. Best theme ever.
I think if this theme was brought back today it would get attention and it would be appreciated.
The NBC script moving from right to left with the lines reminds me of an old wire service teletype machine. The sound going with it makes it sound like one.
Wasn't born yet but I love this
This theme music was also used for the NBC baseball “Game of the Week” in the mid-70s. Wish I could find it.

can we get rid of the hayseed singing in the intro for Sunday night football and bringing this intro back please?
Sorry, that would too much sense.
totally agree...cant stand the 'neck country garbage they've been poisoning us with for 20 years
terry tyler please is unnecessary it’s very annoying like Ted Cruz
Brings back memories to when I was a kid
What I take away from this intro is that men used to play football, and not spoiled little boys like what we have now.
OMG I'm old enough to remember this theme song
Hold on....I have to adjust the 'rabbit ears' for better reception on my Zenith portable 13'' B&W. I just got done watching Haystack Calhoun get beat by Andre the Giant, now i'm ready for some football.
NFL '77-NFL '81 theme song with Bryant Gumbel hosting
This was great music!
The Delco Battery commercial!
Bob Kuchenberg in locker room putting his pads on
Why he isn’t in the HOF is a tragedy.
Bring this back!!!
Makes you want to go out in the street and throw the football. Good times in the 70's. The snowflakes of today will never know that fun. Kinda feel sorry for them!!
This is just Bad Ass Awesome
"Delco battrees!"
This theme song was played during the days when NBC had the old snake symbol.
And it continued when NBC switched to the "N," changing the font to Helvetica, and adding disco and marching band versions.
Composed by Kevin Gavin. May have become a song called Don't Turn Away by Midnite Flite.
That sort of signature was given the disco treatment in the latter part of the 70's. I do not myself remember this theme as I was perhaps a baby. NBC was IT in the 70s with this theme!!!!!!
The one NBC had for the NHL back then was way cool, too.
There's a cleaner version at "NBC MONDAY NIGHT BASEBALL (DON'T TURN AWAY) - Kevin Gavin".
Bring this theme or the other two nbc used.
Like Sears, it's gone. Best to leave it in that era. It was the BEST!
They would use this theme for Baseball, hockey, and other sports too.
This is the third version of this theme I have seen on TH-cam and the first with a sponsor tag afterwards.
There is also a baseball version and a hockey version.

The great Manny Fernandez who should be in the hof helping Bob Kuchinberg on with his jersey!
Fun Fact: This was the last time that any media company promoterd the Dolphins.
the audio is excellent but the video a bit blurry can u upgrade and let it run with commercials not snipped thanks
1970s you had 3 dynasties. Dolphins, Cowboys & the Steelers.
Today with parody do to free agency, we got shit!
Michael Bell singing in the Delco Commercial?!
Jake Holmes... he sang on countless commercials in the '70s and '80s.
Chris Collinsworth too
Also was used for the NHL on NBC theme, after they got the rights from CBS. That network then had the upstart WHA for.a season.
I'm sorry. But, no way I'm the only one who think this theme is better than SNF's theme.
You’re not the only one. Modern intros don’t even come close.
Before my time, but I feel the Pittsburgh Steelers in my bones.
And what the name of that theme

Put this theme song on Sunday Night Football! I can't stand Carrie Underwood's theme!
OJ Simpson for a couple of frames at 0:56
Tim Ryan!
