- This is one of the the very few, if not the only, surviving episode of daytime drama Search For Tomorrow. This would've aired on September 22, 1981. In it I portray a young singer who is being blackmailed into doing the bidding of an international smuggler and jewel thief. At the very end I sing the Dan Fogelberg classic "Longer".

Thanks for sharing. The song is beautifully performed. Reminds me of when Bill Beyers would sing on Capitol and Michael Damian sang on Y&R. Wish soaps still had these kinds of characters and storylines. Sherry Mathis was always so natural on screen. And gee, isn't a young Lisa Peluso just so charming!
I AGREE with you 1,000% because my grandmother used to love SFT & she loved the Y&R too. But when CBS dropped SFT in March of 1982 & NBC picked it up, it was never the same & my grandmother stopped watching it & only watched the Y&R after that. If CBS kept SFT & they didn't kill off certain characters, maybe it would have lasted a little longer. LOVE YOUR COMMENT.

Thanks for sharing this. I remember seeing this show on the TV with the opening title in 1981 when I was 4 1/2 years old. I know it was in the months before the opening changed and before it left CBS for NBC. Good memories!
Dan Fogelberg's Longer Than. I love that song. Was 8 or 9 when this originally aired. Thank you for the memories. I used to watch with my grandma on school breaks.

It was intended as a short summer storyline. They wanted me to stay on the show and gave me the option of continuing or he killed. I felt that Zach had run his course and didn’t belong in Henderson. Besides, who else gets to take a bullet for the heroine on Victoria Peak in Kowloon overlooking Hong Kong Harbor? It was a good death!
And my favorite newscaster at the very end Rolland Smith in NYC. Great memories again thank you!
i remember this storyline. my mother watched cbs all the time. cbs shouldnt messed with 1230 time slot.
I Agree If Search For Tomorrow Had Stayed On CBS It Would Have Expanded From 30 Minutes To A One Hour Format.

In my area Search For Tomorrow was on NBC right before Days Of Our Lives . The line up was Search , DOOL , Another World , and then a Soap I am not sure about ( Edge Of Night or Texas ? ) , replaced by Rituals and then replaced by Santa Barbara and then replaced by Sunset Beach and finally replaced by Passions . Search For Tomorrow was replaced by Generations . I'm not sure what network Doctors was on . Capitol was on CBS and I think replaced by The Bold and The Beautiful .

I bailed when it was still shooting in New York on CBS before it was picked up by NBC. By that time I was on DOOL.

I remember this storyline and recall your character singing on the show. I was only about 9 years old at the time so I could only watch during school breaks or sick days from school (before VCRs became prevalent). I seem to have vague recollections of you singing "I Feel the Earth Move" on the show. Am I remembering correctly? Thank you for sharing this episode. I don’t remember that song particularly but there is much from those days I’ve forgotten.

What a fantastic flashback. I mean, that white outfit, unbuttoned to the navel. Fantastic. LOL. As I was watching, I kept thinking, "Who is he reminding me of?" Then, it hit me. Look at young pictures of Joshua Morrow (Nick, Y&R) and... man, y'all could have played brothers. Thanks so much for sharing this classic bit of daytime history!
I really like sft's theme song back then. Did the actors hear the background music and opening during taping?
Yes and no. The background music was always done during post production (except the one time we were live) however they always played the opening and closing during taping.
I remember When Rod Airing & Sherry Mathis Made SFT what it was if it wasn't for Liza & Travis the show would of lasted as long as it did.
It was all a part of my grandmother's soap schedule. I don't think she followed Search for Tomorrow to NBC.
At 21:28, were those really Zsa Zsa Gabor, Carol Channing, and Danny Thomas’s plumbers? 😛

I recently saw the episode clip of you singing while playing the piano and Sherry Mathis walks in, there is a song I think the title is You Can Love Again? Is that the actual title ? If so who is the artist? It’s a great song .
Actually, Sherry wrote that song! I don’t know if she ever published it before her passing. Sherry and I sang several duets while I was there. Sadly I don’t have any of those tapes. I remember one was Endless Love.

I did not. I was already in Burbank (NBC) on Days Of Our Lives.
Did you have to audition for the part of Zack?
Actually, they offered me the part and then flew me to NYC for a screen test. I’m not sure if anyone else was being considered.
Didn't Sherry move to Ryan's Hope when Nancy Addison left?
CBS canceled it luckily NBC picked it up

Did you like doing soaps?
At the time it wasn’t what I really wanted to be doing but they (SFT/DOOL) were a pretty good paycheck and a regular gig for a few years. In hind site they stopped my career momentum which probably cost me in the long run.
Why do you say that this is one of a very few surviving episodes of this soap? There are tons of SFT on youtube. Fans who loved the show and want to enjoy it again should do a search (sorry, bad pun) and see the huge amount of videos that come up. Did you mean that this is one of the very few, perhaps only, soap episode that you appeared in? Anyway, thanks for sharing. New vintage episodes are always welcome.
I have no other episodes that I’m included in. I had them all at one time but they were on Betamax format and were lost to time and technology. If you know of any others I would appreciate if you’d let me know where I can find them.
@@shawnstevens3869 Oh, okay, so you DID mean that this particular SFT episode was one of the very few surviving eps that you appeared in, rather than one of the very few SFT eps, in general, which still exist. There are many of those. It makes sense now, so thanks for the clarification. Are all of your Beta tapes lost/gone completely, or do you still have some which you just cannot play because you no longer have a Betamax machine? I'll ask around in trading circles and see what material from that era which people may possess.
@@MattFrame I’ve never done an exhaustive search (pardon the pun) of all the items I have in storage, I hope to do that this fall. There was a time in my life when I was so despondent and I suffered severely with mental illness that I destroyed many mementos and reminders of earlier days. I’m not sure that my beta collection was utterly lost during those dark days. I hope not.

Thanks for the compliment! I think I heard about Sherry through social media. There were several friends and women I’d shared the screen with who died way too young! Besides Sherry there was also Nicolette Goulet from SFT and the girl who played my sister on Mackenzie’s, Lory Walsh. Gone too soon!
