    Limit comments saying that I'm back. I know I'm back. I appreciate the support. But there's...a video for you to watch. Watch it! Also read the description please.
    Also, I know how to do math just fine, but for SOME reason many of these ranks aren't added/subtracted correctly.

      The King of IDs, Logos, and Bumpers brings forth yet more wistful looks back at TV from a more refined, artistically appreciative age. I truly appreciate your work searching, collecting, and curating these gems of telephemera. Perhaps I'll find you a nice rarity. I'd love to see the late '70s bumper for Great Falls, Montana's KRTV that featured the "diamond ring" formed by that year's big solar eclipse, with a loud, descending tone into a...let's call it a sci-fi baritone Moog fart. I think another ID showed a slideshow of the moment Mt. Saint Helens tore itself a new one when the volcano's pressure became too great for one side of the mountain to contain.

    KVOS-TV is one of three stations in my area along with BTV 10 (public access) and KBCB (religious programming). There's also a public access network in Ferndale (just north of Bellingham) but they're never on the air. KVOS used to be big enough that they had their own newscast, but that was before my time. It's been a syndication channel for as long as I can remember. Their studio in the Sehome Hill area shut down about a decade ago and now they're just an antenna on top of a business complex at the east end of town that broadcasts Heroes & Icons.
    The population in the market is currently in the lower 200k range, so it's fairly small compared to Seattle and Spokane.
    Welcome back.

    • @gregsells8549
      @gregsells8549 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      KVOS traditionally targeted the Vancouver, BC market. Today it's the METV affiliate for Seattle. Similarly, KCND Pembina, ND targeted Winnipeg, MB, but the day after it shut down it became CKND Winnipeg.

    Found the Nielsen Ratings for Television Markets from 1989. Apparently, the Alaska and Hawaii TV Markets weren’t ranked at the Time.
    Edit: Here’s Some of the Notable differences compared to the Market Ratings of Today:
    -The Alaska and Hawaii markets weren’t rated until 1992
    -Sarasota-Bradenton was rated as a separate market until 1991
    -Roswell and Hagerstown were ranked as separate until around 1992
    And
    -Anniston and Tuscaloosa were rated as separate markets until channels 33 and 40 became ABC Affiliates upon WBRC’s switch to Fox in 1996.

    Find it funny that Athens County, OH (WOUB example in this video) continues to shuffle markets. Makes sense for it to belong to Parkersburg but it hasn’t for at least 15 years. It’s bouncing between Columbus and Charleston-Huntington.

    Great stuff! Only two complaints:
    (1) Some of them flash by too quickly to be seen. Give 'em all at least five or ten seconds, OK?
    (2) The "market change" stat is confusing; growing markets should be given a (+) and shrinking markets a (-). (For example, 9:00 Fresno, going from 73rd to 55th, should be +18, not -18.)

    • @NoEntertainment
      @NoEntertainment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Often times station IDs are just too short, so it's hard (but I could've made the stills longer). but I do understand the second complaint. I was wondering how to go about that myself. I was thinking because it was going down in number it would be subtraction. Not everyone's cup of tea though. Thanks for the feedback!
