      Hey, Tyler, I bought a CS 4 Max antenna. I am able to get all of the necessary channels, except 1: from one antenna position that I've tried(mounted on a 25 ft deer stand like pole outside), the 2 stations that I get will stay on through a torrential downpour for several hours. I get PBS, NBC, and ABC via these 2 stations. The WCBI CBS station that I haven't been able to get consistently is the most important, because it is the channel I grew up with and OTA channel used most in the past. I have gotten all 3 stations perfectly in one spot in average temperatures(including the missing WCBI CBS channel). But, a strange thing happened, I had to run go get extra cable before dark and, when I came back, the antenna had slumped over out of position(but it didn't fall and still works). Every since then, I haven't been able to get all 3 stations to work together anymore. Would the Televes pre-amp $69.99-$79.99 that you reviewed help me?
      EXTRA INFO ABOUT MY ANTENNA SETUP: 1 station goes completely out without my Onn pre-amp. The other station does not work as well without the Onn Pre-amp. I am using 100 ft RG-59 cable that is Quad shielded. I live within 55 miles of towers and I live in a wood infested rural area. I often use another much smaller TV than the family TV outdoors and adjust the antenna as I watch to test whether the antenna positioning will work.

      @@pattrell5257 An amplifier may help but most likely you need a better antenna. I can't say for sure without running a reception report at your location. Consider an antenna recommendation from me at the link below. Same here, though mine is an amplified set of rabbit ears in my upstairs (I got them for free, and "why pay for something I can get for free" ya know). I can't get FOX without losing all the other channels, but I have hulu plus and that covers the content I miss with that.

  • @myers830
    @myers830 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    My problem is NOT getting lots of channels...my problem is getting somebody to install, point, and properly test the signal for optimum strength (i.e they know what to do besides climbing onto the roof). I'm not talking about some guy getting up on a ladder and putting the antenna on a pole (I can find a handy man to do that). I'm between Buffalo and Rochester NY. I'm 71 and my climbing on ladders days are over.

    • @miketech79
      @miketech79 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to live between Rochester and Buffalo. Your main problem is that the signals also come from many different directions. It is even possible to pick up Canada ones depending on your location, so this becomes a problem to do without a rotator and a directional antenna. You may have better luck going that route than trying to get someone to point the antenna.

    • @musicom67
      @musicom67 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Your problem was solved decades ago with a Channel Master Antenna Rotator. Like this channel praises, get a high quality antenna, do it once and done. Did that when I got a new roof. Let 'em put it up high and straight, you do the assembly on the ground (with the rotator and short post) and have 'em haul the whole contraption up, strap to the chimney or whatever, and all you get is the coax and a remote control wire on the ground and have fun rotating.

    Great content on your videos. Very informative. Back in the 1970's, my parents lived on a hill in central Maine and we had a rotary antenna on top of the house. I got into some DXing long distant TV signals and on some good days, I could receive Boston stations. I even got beyond that range when atmosphere conditions were good. Lots of fun to search for signals back in the analog days.

    One challenge is areas like NYC where there are many areas that are near deadzones for antennas, especially when the direction of the transmitter has a large apartment building complex between you and the transmitter. Most developments to not take into considering RF propagation, thus over time, you end up in a situation where even though the transmitters are 10-12 miles away, many channels have a very weak signal even with an amplified antenna.

    • @AntennaMan
      @AntennaMan  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Puffer is a research project run by a true non-profit that's been around for centuries. Locast was basically an illegal IPTV service disguised as a non-profit. They had no right to take local channels from each market, rebroadcast them over the internet, and charge people for access without interruptions.

    I am having trouble with an indoor antenna. I live in a steel framed apartment building, so an outdoor antenna is not an option. I have tried several locations for the Leaf antenna I purchased but am still not able to get a signal in spite of the fact that the various maps I have checked say I should get a strong signal. I will admit that none of the transmission towers are located in a direct line from my window still some are located in an angel that should be obtainable according to the information I have. I live in Burlington Vermont if that is any help, and we manager 4-5 channels with rabbit ears pre cable. Do you have any suggestions for what I could do to recive some of my local broadcast channels?

What about local streaming services that are on the East Coast?

      To go further there is a term called cord shaving, where you keep internet service either with your existing cable company, or a cheaper service like T-MO 5G Home Internet if you have good signal coverage in your area, and then use a Live streaming service such as TH-cam TV, or Sling. At one point my household was paying $121 a month to DirecTV alone, and now I pay about that for Internet, and TH-cam TV together mainly for sports.

    When I first started using an antenna, I was able to get a good signal for all the Boston stations except for WFXT (FOX). That one is tricky. Last summer, i was watching the MLB All-Star Game and when nit got too pixelated to watch, i remembered Tyler's older video about Puffer, and gave that a try., I guess there were less than 500 people who were trying to watch this game, because i had no problem accessing it. And since it was a live nationally televised game, the fact that I'm on the east coast didn't matter.
    I've since been working on trying to get that FOX channel on an antenna, and I think I finally have it working. But Puffer is still a good backup just in case. Beats the hell out of paying for TH-cam TV or something like that.

    • @miketech79
      @miketech79 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to live in Boston, never had a problem with getting Fox. I looked at the FCC data on the channels. The Fox transmitter antenna is a bit lower in height than some of the other stations. But I think the main issue is that they have a funky directional signal pattern with their transmitter antenna that might lower the signal depending on the direction from the tower. Their power output seems fine and is higher than most of the stations.
