      Haha I noticed when I talk on video I have a lot of run on sentences 😂 7500 =75 to 100, I actually never noticed that before lol. Thanks for watching!

    I thought my smaller pitboss had the same gap so I was ready to build the same type of add on, but after removing drip tray, no such gap. They must have figured it out on the 540 and never changed the other models. I'm cheap, I would have made it out of an old license plate!

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I thought they had fixed it on the newer ones, but I had heard that may not be true, that it was hit and miss. But glad you don't have to deal with it. I did almost do a DIY option because I am also pretty cheap haha, but this was not to bad and I was supporting a small business at the same time. Plus there never seems to be enough time in the day for these small projects anymore lol. I appreciate you watching the video!

  • @cvx23231
    @cvx23231 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi just seen your video today, I looked at your reply on one of the comments saw you wanted to support small business, good deal I guess because my first car was gonna be a kid kid this routine steps in a foot long piece of shiny 90 from Home Depot.
    I had a 880 model, I think it was called, for about five years gave it to my son, just bought me an Austin XL. So I’m learning about that, but more or less seems to be the same animal.
    I saw that you mentioned the fluctuations in temperature, which is a common theme or a lot of videos and honestly I’m not quite sure why people don’t understand this. It occur because these pellet grills all run on a burn cycle that starts with smouldering and smoke, then progresses to ignition and burning
    of the pellets, which burn out and then after a new supply is pushed in to start the cycle all over.

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment and watching the video. I agree temp fluctuations are going to happen with this grill based on how the controller is set up and to some extent the temp fluctuations are good for creating smoke. But I was seeing 50-75 degree swings which seems very abnormal. Since I have installed it, I typically see max of 25 degree swings.

    I ordered one before I saw your video 5 days ago. I am headed to the mail box in a few mins to p/it up and install. I have had a 85 deg differance between one side to the other. New 1150 Pro series Thanks for the hope

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let me know how it works, I know some people with issues on the 1150 were able to get new controllers because there were issues with the controller itself, not sure if they are still having issues on them or not, but if you still have problems, probably worth reaching out to PB on the issue

    You can make that piece out of a foil pan. Just cut it to where it fits the ears of the sear plate. Works just as good. And from the looks of that metal, not much thinner. Lol

  • @bz8740
    @bz8740 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just bought a Laredo and it is curved from the facotory now. I also put a probe in to verify how close the temps are. I placed it on the bottom of the middle rack in the middle of the grill and the temps stay pretty good. No wild swings like described with the new models, so this curved add on isnt needed with the new Laredo models.

      It still has about a 1 inch gap in between the arch of the sear plate and the lip.

    Man, I wish he made one for the 820, i would insta-buy.

    What does that plate do to the smoke distribution? It's got to choke it down significantly I would think? Also, where are the hotspots now that that mod is in place?

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those are some good questions. As far as smoke, I haven’t noticed any significant changes on it. The hotspots haven’t seemed to change, I didn’t do a test with it on and off, but that’s probably not a bad test to run. My hot spots seem to be front right and right over the sear plate with the mod on and when I did some jerky with it off awhile ago, I remember similar hot spots. I’ll let you know if I do a test with it on and off

  • @johnnyclarik1

    I wonder if a small thermowell installed on the probe would have the same effect.

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that may also work, it may not do as good of a job distributing heat, but you probably get a realistic reading for temp still

    Please remember that this isn’t much different than controlling a wood stove. More heat requires damper to be adjusted accordingly. Less heat means tamping down on the amount of smoke OUT of the chamber to maintain constant temperature.

    Anyone know if this mod is needed on the new competition 1600 ?

  • @joelberrier5310
    @joelberrier5310 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So does this mod help temps be closer from left to right or is it more about actual temp inside compared to direct heat on probe?

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would say it’s more of an actual temp thing, however I think it will help some with evening out the heat, but you will have some hot spots still. Especially if you have a sear grate

    • @davemelton3659
      @davemelton3659 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will help actual temp inside but it doesn't do much with left to right temp difference.. that you need the flame defuser for... zmanoutdoors do a little research before you post...

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, thanks for watching. I do not think the 850 needs it. You can see if you have a gap similar to what I had, but the website says the 1150 needs it, but no mention of the 850.

    • @hktmc300
      @hktmc300 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok. Thanks. I'm thinking of getting the 850. I'll check it in the store to see if there is a gap.

    • @hktmc300
      @hktmc300 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I checked it out in Lowes today and happy to find that there is no gap on the 850. Obviously you shouldn't have a gap there because a lot of heat will come out of that gap and give false temperate reading. It's strange why they left a gap on the 1150.

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I’ve never really understood it, even some of their newer models still have it. Glad the 850 doesn’t though!

    What P setting do you use?

    • @ZManOutdoors
      @ZManOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically just sit on 4. But it will depend on a few things. The temperature outside, what I’m smoking etc. I’ll adjust it a little if I see the temp not sitting where I want at 4. I really haven’t mastered the P settings quite yet haha but I’m working on it!

      I would double check to see if you need it on the 850. Someone said the 820 didn’t. Is it the navigator? I believe that if you have the gap there, this should fit it though.

    • @mltvideos572
      @mltvideos572 2 ปีที่แล้ว
