    Absolutely LOVE your idea of magnetic hooks for your spare shelf. Wil definitely purchase them!

      William!! Such an easy but necessary mod. A friend brought the new pit boss 1150 and the second rack was too heavy for the magnets to hold up. We drilled two holes and installed bolts with nuts.

      Second E-777-s sentiments. Local box has this on clearance for under $300. You addressed my biggest hangups..Wifi, heat control and smoke loss. Sold me, hopefully they'll be one left in the morning. Great walk thru.

    Just got done with my third smoke EVER after buying the little brother to this guy. The Pitboss Lexington. I'm LOLing through the whole thing going "yep! needs that! yep! needs that!"
    Great list, I'm doing several of these to my Lexington! gasket. shelf. thermometer. pellet hopper cut out. It's a great smoker and with the mods it will be even better.
    thank you!

      Andrew!! Glad to here you’re enjoying your grill! My buddy has the Lexington. We did several of the mods to his grill. We contacted PBR Products and they made a front shelf to our measurements. Fit perfectly.

    I've had my pit boss for about a year and a half, it was my first smoker. Now that I've really put some use into it I've noticed the temp issues in the barrel. I cut the curved side from that ash pan to use as a heat deflector for the curved plate, saved some $. Also bought a heavy duty heat deflector for the fire pot and bent in the bottom of the sides for a better fit. Those two mods have improved performance but I'm definitely going to use some of the things I learned from this video as well to really dial in my cooking! The handles on the right to avoid moving the plates are GENIUS.

  • @bryandamkaer3646
    @bryandamkaer3646 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Instead of cutting the center out of the pellet grate, I purchased machine screws and nuts to fit the mounting screw openings.
    The screws are I believe 1 inch long and support the grate from falling in pellet hopper.
    I used 2 nuts on each screw to keep it tight. Works great for when you need access and still have proper 'safety' when in use.
    I am also in the process of using a similar method for the top grill storage on the back. Less expensive and more readily available.
    I tried the magnet thing but they kept sliding down when I put the grill on the hooks.
    Front shelf ordered... excellent idea.

    I got a pit boss 1800 (I think), and IT'S BUILT LIKE A TANK! I got lucky and had to take the pre-assembled floor model 😁 It took everything we had for two guys to put it in the back of my truck. It feels like it weighs 500 lbs! The wheels are even solid steel! Dude you need to be an engineer at pit boss, these mods are awesome!

    That heat diffuser might work for my issue. After running the grill at 450/500 degrees the front and back of my cook drum is starting to rust. What I realized is the factory curved diffuser is causing extreme heat at the middle front and back of the grill. It got so hot it burned the coating off and is now causing rust pretty badly. I considered adding a spacer plate to take the heat and punishment of high temp cooks but that diffuser at the pot might do the trick.
    I hope future models have thicker walls or a spacer/diffuser system. I still love my Austin XL though.

    • @thisgrilllife7447
      @thisgrilllife7447  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gabe, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. One thing I might caution you about is that I’m finding the heat defusing plate over the fire pot needs to be opened at higher temperatures. When the temperature setting is high the flames are trapped in the pot and will ignite the pellets in the auger. I had smoke coming out of the hopper. I don’t grill at higher temps often so it hasn’t been a problem. I open the diffuser at 400° and above
