Released in Japan as Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari EX.
Played with Alex alone. In this GBA version, the graphics are improved of course, but you can also recruit gang members for your own team. What I didn't know is that you have to get a good reputation in the process to recruit later bosses. Mid-game I tried to do get a good reputation (mostly by avoiding foul play and getting back to fight more), but I didn't succeed, so I continued later the game normally. It could be finished much faster, tho.

Little fact about reputation
So if you have good rep you may recruit some boss, or some event happen. if you have bad rep, some battle may happen(and some dialogue may change)
To increase rep you need to avoid foul play like attacking downed enemy, fleeing enemy, attacking boss while talking etc.

Love this game. The allies are hilarious and there’s so many techniques and items. Even better when you recruit different allies with every replay.
There’s a hack version of…2003? Which increased the stages, bosses, everything really. Although in Japanese.

The hack version youre talking about was in 2007,theres another even more rare hack apparently that was in 2009 which added even more stuff and in that version you were able to have 4 allies instead of just 3
