This was the funniest video game I can ever remember playing for the NES. I was laughing so hard at that part near the end where the Double Dragon music starts playing.

This is lowkey a major turning point for Kunio-kun series.
I'm glad it was properly released localization aside & made "River City" a mainstay brand recognition for Kunio-kun outside Japan.
This hands down was one of my all time favorite nes games ever! Graphics are fun & violent. Never thought you hear those 2 words together. Lol, but it was such a blast to play. I miss this game.
The Twins are by far the toughest fighters in this game. Both iterations of them.

I remember collecting all the change for the damn Excalibur sword only to be told it was to heavy to lift....but those were some fun time. Definitely one of my favorite of all time.

Indie development house Combit Studios has announced that it will be partnering with River City Ransom EX developer Million to create "an official, worldwide follow-up to River City Ransom." The game will be available for Windows in August of 2014, according to Combit's official blog.They're making a new one for PC.Great news!

The final stage music is from Double Dragon. And in the game the pair of bosses there are called the dragon twins. Both games were originally produced by Technos Japan.

My best friend and I used to play the hell out of this game growing up. Nothing like that GRAND SLAM.....extreme violence and extreme pain. Machine gunning a person down over the head with a pole lololol

I never heard of it, as soon as I see on youtube I copied to my Roms folder. Simply because I was a HUGE fan of "Nintendo World Cup" and it has the same violence and characters, so this is AMAZING
Yeah, World Cup is in the same series. Also originally something like "River City Soccer". The teams were countries school representatives and not national teams like the international version had.
They also made the NES versions for the Double Dragon series, and had the same composer. :)
This idea of River City Ransom inspired me to make this:

Oh my god, I just found out about this game, and I find it extremely funny that the guys look like the players from the nintendo soccer game ^^
0:50 that's right , he just disarmed the bad guy by throwing a fucking stick at him then knocked his ass down, picked his ass up and tried using his body to beat the next baddies ass. Then he took their lunch money and wandered off to find more ass to kick.

Seriously this is a great game and well worth a playthrough.
The one endearing thing about this game is the sheer number of times to just fun with it. How many of us played with two players and play a round of baseball with the rock and lead pipe? Or even better, a weaponised version where one player runs and throws the rock, to have the other hit a line drive at an oncoming enemy? I have dented many a forehead in this game with that nasty trick.
What about riding on top of a moving tire.

This game has levels. I don't think a lot of people realize how great this game is unless they played it when it came out. This game gives the players a lot of options and travel space. My player was super by time I made it inside of the school.

Chris Hollandsworth In fact, they're literally part of the same series in Japan. They just all got translated differently. (For example, Alex is the same character as Mr. K in Renegade, Sam in Super Dodge Ball, and Crash in the Crash and the Boys Street Challenge), and there's tons of games in the series that were never brought over at all (including a couple of games in the same vein as RCR).
