    I think people are still missing my point. What I'm trying to say is that there's a difference between a system having good games, and having ENOUGH good games to BUY. Yes, the Wii U had good games. But very few people felt that there were enough of them to plunk money down on the system. That's why people wanting Wii U games on Switch is perfectly reasonable. Plenty of people looked at a lot of those titles the first time around and thought, "I'd love to play these, but not enough to buy a Wii U." Now that they've got Switches (because again, it's just a better system) you bet your bippy they want everything in the world ported over to it. That's not wrong.

      The issue with the "release schedule" point is that the games actually had to be developed from the ground up for Wii U and the Switch ports only took a couple months of tweaking. Regardless of who has or hasn't played them, ports are not completely new content. It seems by now that you and a number of other people caught up in the Switch hype are praising everything Nintendo does as gospel, discounting the fact that for those who actually bought Wii Us and most of the major releases, there are only about three or four worthwhile Nintendo games per year (Breath of the Wild, ARMS, Splatoon 2, and Mario Odyssey last year, with Mario + Rabbids and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 being dumbed-down SRPGs and ARPGs respectively, and Metroid Prime 4, Smash Switch, and Pokemon Switch / the Let's Go games this yead, with Kirby Star Allies being a game that, in your own words, "plays itself"). We all know you're going to mention whatever vitriol was thrown your way in the next video, but consider for once that Nintendo and the Switch are not perfect.

      I liked the WiiU. Personally I really enjoyed my time with it, sure it had some not so good, but there were good ones, but there many great games. So put those games on a much more powerful system along with other great games. It just makes sense.

    • @chuckbatman5
      @chuckbatman5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dale Stoddard I understand that and agree to a certain extent, however the portion of wiiu owners who own switches is much less than new buyers, so the benefit of porting games from the wiiu to the switch outweighs those costs. The real issue is the pricing of some of these ports. MK8 should not be $60 for an added battle mode. Tropical Freeze should not be $60 for the same game that was $50 on the wiiu with nothing added but a Funky Kong easy mode. That being said, I wouldn't blame wiiu owners for holding out on buying a switch right now and jumping in later down the line when more original games are available

    • @vultran8135
      @vultran8135 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually MK8D is worth the $60 because it has a new battle mode, everything is unlocked from the start except kart parts, title screens, and Gold Mario, new characters, new kart parts, double items, includes all the DLC from the original, and new items.

      As a Wii U owner, I couldn't disagree more. Yeah, you already own a chunk of the Switch library on another system. But there are *millions* of gamers who never bought a Wii U but would like to maybe get a chance to play some of the Wii U's excellent library. And on top of all that, Switch's portability makes even the ports more tempting. Hyrule Warriors and Smash Bros on the go without being handicapped by the 3DS hardware? Sounds great to me.

    THANK YOU. An argument I hear way too often is something along these lines where people just generalise without actually taking in multiple factors into account. Like, when fans ask for something new for example, Nintendo could very well deliver that... but what they deliver might not be that good, so fans say "Yeah, okay but not like this" and people instantly point the finger going "HA! BUT YOU JUST SAID THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED!!".
    Like yeah, specifics are important for crying out loud. Don't generalise just because you want to make a very vague point. Individuals will want different things, and some individuals will want specific things from those different things.
    Watch: The new one will be "Pokemon is finally on the Switch but fans are complaining lol"

We also have several major third party games (Mario & Rabbids, Doom) as well as more new IP games in the works (Metroid Prime 4, Pokemon, and Smash Switch, though this still has a tiny chance of being a port).

      it was confirmed that Smash Switch is a new entry and not a port... but other than drastically changing the game, I don't see how it won't be a "basically a port" game. A few new characters, maybe bringing back transforming characters/swapping characters (Zelda and Pokemon Trainer) and altering some of the character's attacks, but it'll more or less be Smash 4 with a new coat of paint, right?

    Thats fine, to a point. I felt like that too a couple of years ago but then I realized that for me it was just a missguided thoughtprocess of thinking "im an adult now, i need to change my life" which led me to discard things that made me happy.

It doesn’t feel appropriate for me as a 20 year old. Because of that the only Nintendo games I play are generally RPGs or Melee typically because rpgs are single player and I can enjoy the game by myself and because Melee’s just a fun game once you get a grasp for its complex movement mechanics.

    You can also point out that the image only shows us first party Nintendo games. The Wii U didn't have much third party support, but the Switch has tons of support with things like Doom, Spyro, The Witcher 3, Saints Row 3 & 4, Skyrim and Rocket League and so much more not to mention its still has big third party games on the way like Borderlands and Bioshock franchises. The Wii U never had this amount of options aside from its 1st party line-up because shortly after Wii U launched and didn't have the sales Nintendo wanted the third party companies backing the console jumped ship where the Switch is literally swimming in these non-exclusive games.

    I think their main argument is that Nintendo fans shouldn't get more excited about a port of a game than the original production, and that too many people disregarded Wii U games as they came out then praised them once they were ports to the Switch.
    While the frustration is arguably valid, the fact is that people were indeed excited for all those games, but couldn't play them because they were unwilling to purchase a Wii U, and correspondingly did not purchase the games and forgot about them for the most part. The sudden praise for these games is simply because they are now on a system people want to own. I at least am one of those people.

  • @mrshmuga9

    I still disagree. It was a slow trickle, but eventually it did have a dozen or more great games (even before Zelda) yet people still held onto the notion that "there's no good games". Because they couldn't possibly admit that argument didn't hold water anymore.
    People kept saying, "I'll wait until Mario Kart" then "I'll wait until Smash" but never bothered. They just continued to move the goal post. Yet they're all over the Switch when ports of those *exact same games* came out, and all of the other games that released, that they said they would buy a Wii U for. They are indeed hypocrites.

      I disagree with you. It is NOT a fact that the Wii U had many good games. In fact, I would claim quite the opposite. I think that Mario 3D World is hot garbage, there was no Metroid, no real animal crossing, star fox zero was awful at best, Zelda didn't come until the switch was out, etc. Also, smash was practically the same game as the 3ds version, but that one came out even earlier. The Wii U only has 3 games I would consider good: Pikmin 3, Tropical Freeze, and Mario Kart 8. 3 above average games is not good enough.
      The Wii U is a failure in every aspect in my opinion. This comes from someone who owns both the Wii U and the Switch, and owns all of these games.

    • @Brian-ft4dh

      Listen, there are MILLIONS of more Switch owners than Wii U owners, and that number will only continue to grow. There are MILLIONS of people who have never played these Wii U games before, so of course there is a lot more hype surrounding them now than when they launched on the far less popular system. I get why you're upset, but it's not the Nintendo core fanbase who are hypocrites, it's just the more oblivious casuals and media who are really hyping these games up now

      Really now? Is THAT why we're getting so many Wii U ports? Because they all sucked?
      So because it wasn't exactly what you wanted, that makes it objective fact (or consensus) that it had no games?
      These are all 80% and above (though two are technically 78% but who cares)
      Mario Kart 8
      DK: Tropical Freeze
      Pikmin 3
      Smash (Wii U version is in HD, and with a controller that doesn't suck or hurt to use)
      Super Mario 3D World (you can dislike it personally, but the majority says otherwise)
      Splatoon (you know, the 1st new AAA IP from Nintendo in like, a decade)
      Bayonetta 2
      Yoshi's Woolly World
      Super Mario Maker
      Pokken Tournament
      The Wonderful 101
      Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
      Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
      Lego City Undercover
      Xenoblade Chronicles X (depends who you ask, but I'll throw it in anyway because it still got great reviews, better than Star Fox)
      Hyrule Warriors (76%, but it sold well and got a Switch port so that has to account for something)
      Whether *you personally* like them or not is irrelevant. They're rated highly and 7 of them have already got Switch ports. They can't suck that much if both they're getting ports AND selling better than their original launch. And they weren't all low sales either, either 1 million sellers or several on the Wii U.

    Wind Waker HD was probably best gaming experience I've had with a console because of the gamepad. Plus you could play your games in your hand while somebody else watched tv.

      TheGrandestOfPas I actually think it would’ve been a better system seller had it been near the launch of the system. Even as early as 2014, the Wii U was already beyond saving. It was a very flawed system from the beginning, and it didn’t have the strong launch lineup to make up for that. This could be seen with Super Mario Maker. It was an Internet sensation back in 2015, so it should’ve been a system seller, but it was too little too late by then. This is also why Breath of the Wild was delayed and released on the Switch. Nintendo clearly lost all hope for the Wii U, so they put this game on the Switch so that it could sell better (though admittedly, it may have also been because they realized that the Switch didn’t have any big hitters at launch and didn’t want the Switch to be in the same situation as the Wii U).

    • @TheMGMfan
      @TheMGMfan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Xn Smash His point was that because Breath of the Wild was released on the Wii U on the Switch’s launch day, and the latter also got it, no one wanted to get the Wii U version, especially since it was dead by that point. I don’t think that’s a good argument, but only because the original post’s point was just that most, if not all, of the first party games on Switch were on- or similar to games on- the Wii U, and anyone who prefers one over the other is hypocritical as a result, not that that’s a good argument to begin with, given all of the other factors. Also, he did indeed say that Smash was a system seller, just not enough to save the system.

    Nintendo fan here. I bought a wii u early and never regretted it. So they can't even say all Nintendo fans hated the wii u.
    Now that's not to say I think the wii u has no problems or had the best lineup of games in nintendo history. Just pointing that, as Arlo himself says in the video, not everyone in a fanbase is a monolith sharing the same opinions one verything. The wii u was flawed but between smash, mario kart, 3d world, wind waker HD, tropical freeze and several other games, I never regreted my decision to buy one early even if things could have definitely been better.
    And as the point of people wanting new things then complaining about new things: execution is KEY. There's not a dichotomy of 'doesn't want change' and 'wants any change no matter what.' I can respect Nintendo for trying something new with the gamepad. Just as I respect them for the wii and switch trying new things. But just because someone wants a company to try new things doesn't mean Nintendo is above criticism when they try new things that miss the mark.

      Kes Kes, am I not a "true" nintendo fan because I didn't buy the wiiu? In order to really be a fan of a company, you need to buy all their products, or even just the main ones? Does that mean anyone that disliked and didn't buy the, say, virtual boy when it came out isn't a real nintendo fan?
      Look at it this way. During my life, I've owned (and still do) pretty much every main nintendo console. Minus two, the NES, and the wiiu. (including almost all the 3ds etc versions). NES mostly because it was a little before my time, and again, don't see many games I want to play on that console. I didn't grow up with them, I didn't play them as a kid, and they don't appeal to me as an adult. So therefore, I haven't and won't buy it.
      When the wiiu was shown to me (and after I finally understood it was a console, all its own), I looked at it as it's own console, not knowing what games there were for it (and then, and still now, I'm not active on social media or anything, so that's not a big influence on me), and thought to myself "I don't want that." There were a number of reasons. One, I'm not a big fan of touchscreens. I don't really like them. The 3ds is ok because it works with a stylus, which is far smaller than my fingers. 2, I couldn't even (and still can't) fathom the battery drain on the controller pad thing. 3, it looked cumbersome and unpleasant to use or hold. 4, and a bonus one, it reminded me of things like the leappad. THEN I saw the ads, and realized that nintendo wasn't trying to sell it to *me*, an adult fan.
      Years passed, and as I checked in on it again a few times, no games really came out to draw me. No metroid, no 3d mario game (technically, yes, mario 3dland is 3d, but you know what I mean), I had smash bros on my 3ds, and skyward sword didn't look all that exciting (It looks enjoyable though).
      Pikman 3 was the only game that I really wanted to play. Super mario maker looks interesting, but not something to buy a console over. And neither is pikman.
      Compare all this to the switch, which, first and foremost, addressed all my concerns with the wiiu. The touchscreen is a minor feature. I already knew the battery life from the get go. It was smaller, and sleeker, and looked far more comfortable and manageable. It was marketed towards gaming adults like myself, so I knew they were trying to work towards bridging that gap they built themselves. AND on top of all this, it was a fully portable system. Oh, and pokemon was moving over to it too. Did I mention I play the main series pokemon games competitively? (on and off, but eh). AND the games shown said "Hey, remember all those things you wanted? We got it, they're here, or they are coming. Oh, and here's a new 3ds metroid game to chew on in the meantime"

      There were good games on the wiiu and I used to used in all the time seeing how I never really leave my room outside of work or college, so I was content with the gamepad since I shared a room with my younger siblings, they can watch the or play their games while I could still play mine.
      I used to use wiiu so much but my gamepad went to shit and I have to pay $100 to repair because the warranty has expired (had it since release of the black version) so now I play my switch but I likes the wiiu had the browser, I could sit the gamepad on it's stand and use the browser for reference drawings when I'm drawing my art. Personally I don't regret the wiiU I enjoyed it's life span

      I liked them both. But the Switch is almost other worldly I like it so much more. Especially the form factor and ease of use.
      I just booted up my Wii U for the first time in months to record Smash footage, and it literally took almost half a minute to get the game to even start loading.
      The Switch on the other hand takes at max half that time for me to already be in the main menu of any game.
      That combined with the Switch turning me into a digital gamer with how easy it is to "Switch" between games on a fast, portable system, it's just amazing.
      Even not outside of the games offered, the Switch is just so clever and easy to use.

    Probably a very unpopular opinion but I bought a Wii U around the time it first came out because I was hoping it'd be as successful as the Wii was for me. A big mistake..
    I guess you could call me an extremely casual gamer or whatever but the Wii was the best console to me, because my favorite franchises of all time were on it. This includes Animal Crossing(I know New Leaf is better, but I prefer to play on console.), Harvest Moon and Rune Factory(RIP btw). Also prefer Brawl over the other smash games even though I like them all.. except for Smash 4. Anyway, that's why I liked the Wii so much.
    Other than Smash, those games didn't make it to the Wii U. Instead of Animal Crossing, there was Amiibo Festival which was a massive slap to the face not just to me, but other Animal Crossing fans. The lack of the games I personally prefer to play on Ninty with weren't on it, so I was pretty bummed. The Wii U is definitely the worst console I've ever owned. I was and am still skeptical of buying a Switch without waiting for at least Animal Crossing to come out for it because I know it will some day. It's gotten pretty popular thanks to New Leaf.
    Until then, I won't get a Switch until Animal Crossing comes for it. It looks like an alright console/handheld hybrid though I'm not into the handheld gimmick all that much. That's why I have a 3DS instead. Has better games than the Switch does currently.
    For the time being, I bought a PS4 instead and am pleasantly enjoying it. It's my first Sony console since the PS1, and definitely the first time I prefer a different console over Nintendo's. I hope the Switch does well though. I'd like to play it some day.

    I don't really agree with Arlo's argument on how Breath of the Wild doesn't count as a fair comparison. Breath of the Wild will absolutely go down in history as a Switch game, and I find that a little upsetting considering that was for the better three quarters or so of its development cycle was made exclusively as a Wii U game. I don't care that it was released on the same day, let's just say it as it is; Breath of the Wild (Switch) is a Wii U port. I'm not saying that it was the wrong financial decision to hold back the game so they could port it to Switch on launch day. That decision was 90% of the reason why we love the Switch now and why BOTW was as critically acclaimed as it was. All I'm saying is that it's fair to say the Switch was able to use the game as a stepping stone to success.

      It's the same as Twilight Princess. I pre-ordered it more than a year before it came out because it was originally a Gamecube exclusive game. Then they delayed it for a year because the Wii was on the way and they wanted to port it over to Wii and do a simultaneous launch.
      Most people played Twilight Princess on the Wii. I almost never see anyone talk about playing the Gamecube version like I did.

    I don't understand the basis of this rant. I guarantee you this comparison graphic was made by a Nintendo fan in defense of Nintendo fans, not by a hater trying to call Nintendo fans hypocrites. This is defending the Wii U; we spent years insisting that the Wii U has a bunch of great games worth playing so it's frustrating as a Wii U fan and a Nintendo fan to see casual observers so impressed with games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe when we've been talking about how great that game is for years.

      I mean, sure, if that's your position then that's fine. But Arlo is basing this whole video on the position that this graphic was made at the expense of Nintendo fans, accusing them of something, and I'm pretty sure that's not true. It appears to be a defense of the Wii U's library, rather than a take-down of the Switch's, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. These games are all great, but they were great when they were new too so maybe ease up on the Wii U hating a little bit because it brought us a lot of wonderful stuff.

      @chfgn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure what you mean, VirgateSpy. Elitism? I'm describing an optimistic interpretation of the image, that it's saying something positive about Nintendo and their games, so there's no need to be so defensive about it like Arlo has in this video. Also no need to build such an aggressively negative legacy for the Wii U when it had a lot of really good games that people are still enjoying today. I enjoyed my Wii U a lot and I think the image really describes why, it had a library of excellent games that are now considered system sellers on the Switch. Switch is great too, all systems are great if they have great games.

    • @AlquimistEd

    Some people are just discovering the Wii U now that the Switch is on their radar and they are noticing that the Switch’s most popular games are simply old Wii U ports. I was never disappointed with the Wii U, in fact, I bought all of the “modern” consoles and the Wii U always got the most use in our house. There’s really only 2 reasons why we prefer the Switch. It’s got better controllers and it uses cartridges. If the Wii U had those, I’d be playing it now. Cartridges are Soooo much better than disks. They make the PS4 and Xbox look outdated. Besides, the Wii U has some serious advantages over the Switch. It can play the Wii’s massive library and it has 2 screens. Try building Super Mario Maker levels on the Switch. Not gonna happen. At least not without a total redesign of the game.

      Fatal Wii U flaw - Not enough system sellers at a reasonable rate, causing a lack of player interest; if you have no player interest, you get no third party interest... especially if you don't seek it out.
      The Wii was also backwards compatible and everyone had it, so that doesn't count, you only get Wii U games to justify it.
      Benefits don't matter if you've got a bad release schedule, it can be fixed, but Nintendo never did much about the Wii U; they mainly focused on the 3DS after the flop passed, because that was resolved first.

    Sorry Arlo, I'm kind of with the image on this one, at least for now. Nintendo has ALWAYS made great games, even in the so called dark Wii U ages.
    There were a lot of problems with the marketing and conceptualization of the Wii U, but bad games was not one of them. I daresay the Wii U has one of the greatest Nintendo game lineups of all time, and with all the ports and re-imaginings, it's hard not to look at the Switch as a Wii U owner and not feel kind of like a hipster about it. Yes, I love that people are now getting a chance to play the games I loved over the last 5 or so years, but that doesn't mean I can't feel a little smug about it :)
    Also, yes, the Switch stars the best Mario and the best Zelda ever released, but I expect more if you want to convince me that the Switch library is objectively better than Wii U's.
    However, the potential IS there, more than ever. The difference, as Arlo correctly points out, is in the rate these games are coming out. Wii U had 4 and a half years to come up with its stellar lineup, and the Switch is now matching it in just 1-2 years.
    But, will the Switch be able to sustain that pace without relying on its many ports of the Wii U's catalog? If Nintendo keeps up its current momentum but with new and original games, then we can talk. I BELIEVE it will, but let's see this year's E3. With new Metroid Prime, Pokemon Switch (and Let's Go Pokemon), Fire Emblem, Smash, Yoshi, etc. supposedly on the horizon - it looks promising, but it will all depend on the release schedule and quality of the games. But, now's really the time for the Switch to really differentiate itself from its predecessor for a Nintendo fan.
    (Also, not the point, but just a reminder that there are things the Wii U did that the Switch has sadly abolished - like Miiverse, being able to locally backup your data, free Internet, more menu options. As someone who personally rarely games on the go but who loved Miiverse and believes he should have access to his own data, I have had a hard time not being bitter about some of these changes.)

So yeah Breath of Wild was great just not what I want in a Zelda game lol.

    • @weaverquest
      @weaverquest 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      chaoticcranium Nintendo has more chances of keeping that pace with original releases on the Switch because now they don't have to divide their resources between a home console and handheld like 3DS so they can focus all the new games on Switch. Unless Nintendo decides to support the 3DS for the next 30 years that is.

      Joshua Oxenford Very true, how could I forget about the VC? The NES selections thing for Switch hardly compares.

      @chaoticcranium 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cutter Elf Probably true, though the high graphical quality games for Switch will probably need more dev time than any 3DS game. Lets see what E3 has for us.
      Either way, lets not drag the 3DS into this because I could easily lump the 3DS and Wii U as "Nintendo's previous generation" and ask us to compare the Switch to the both of them (I know Nintendo is still supporting the 3DS, but yeah, its certainly last gen at this point as a 7 year old system). And the 3DS library is certainly not to be trifled with...

    • @ricahrdb
      @ricahrdb 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe some people don't understand the concept of time but maybe you don't either. 7 of the games from the video where ports from the Wii U. If you already own a Wii U and already played those games that "first year" for the Switch wouldn't really be a first year to begin with. As a Wii U owner (and a Switch owner btw) I only consider Mario Odyssey a great "first year" Switch title. The rest I either already played on the Wii U or I found them good but not remarkable. Not a bad first year for the Switch but not that good either.

    I just love them equally. They're both my 2 favourite consoles. Theoretically, Switch would just be superior, but I absolutely LOVE every game I have for both systems (exept 1-2 Switch!... I kinda regret asking for that for Christmas...) but anyway, the Wii U's games just have a lot of charm, probably because of nostalgia (I waited to get that console for 4 years), and the Switch's games are all so AMAZING. Not to mention that I'm easily impressed.

    I guess I can't be too mad because people have been calling fans of all game systems hypocrites since the dawn of preferences. Nintendo fans are hypocrites for not getting a Wii U, Xbox fans are hypocrites for wanting a new Banjo-Kazooie game while being the audience that pushed all the gray/brown gritty games last gen, PS4 fans are hypocrites for being mad about the Xbox E3 reveal for it's original anti-consumer policies and then go and buy Battlefront II anyway. It's all stupid generalizations and, to be honest, I feel like the whole "defend your favorite multi-million-dollar company" thing to be stupid and kind of dead. The idea of being a fan of one camp is kind of weird to me when I think that we'd all buy every console and game ever made EVER if we could afford it and had the space (except for some that I wouldn't buy on principle).

    • @blabbitybla2780

      There's this weird thing people do where in order to justify their purchases, they will defend that company that sold them the product over their competitors. It's a defense mechanism to avoid buyer's remorse. I wish more people were aware of this when they start defending multi-million dollar companies for their anti-consumer practices which, by definition, screw themselves over as a consumer.

    The one thing the Switch did right was merge handheld and home gaming together into one unit. That, and getting rid of the optical disc as a storage medium for games. That's why I have two Switches and one Switch Lite compared to a single Wii U. It also helps to have money from stimulus checks during a pandemic to be able to afford all this. As for Breath Of The Wild, I've been waiting for that game to come out for the Wii U for years, but it coming out as both a launch title for the Switch and the last first-party game for the Wii U meant that my Wii U was doomed.

  • @OccultBeast
    @OccultBeast 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    "You can't compare [Game A] to [Game B]..."
    Ok I get your point, but you're also missing the broader point that's trying to be made about the Wii U vs Switch. It's not the argument that the games are "the same." The argument is that the Wii U had "No Good Games," but so many of those games were immediately ported to the Switch (which is why they came out so quickly- they were ports). And the non-port comparisons are just stating that "look, the Wii U ALSO had a few Mario titles, it ALSO had Splatoon, it ALSO had a Kirby game, it ALSO had BotW." It's not trying to say they're IDENTICAL libraries, but saying that people are praising the Switch for what its library currently has, but uses those same basic library standards to shit on the Wii U. "It's good enough for the Switch, but it's not good enough for the Wii U."
    I own both the Wii U and Switch, and I think both systems are equally as good. Yes, I think Nintendo did a horrible job at marketing the Wii U and seriously slacked on bulking up the game library for it because of slow sales. It was a complete marketing failure. Yes, the Switch is so much more successful because Nintendo marketed it RIGHT, releasing it with one of the most anticipated games in recent years. It succeeded partially due to the Wii U's failure, and because Nintendo marketed it well from launch. But both systems are good for what they are, and while the comparison being made in that post/image isn't EQUAL and IDENTICAL, the point they're trying to make is legitimate, at least in regards to why some people feel it's unfair to look down on the Wii U for what the Switch also has, and not so much the whole 'Nintendo fans are hypocrites.'
    ALSO, SIR, FOR THE RECORD: THE WHITE WII U IS BEAUTIFUL!

    • @urinefetus
      @urinefetus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm glad you wrote out all that so I didn't have to. I find it so baffling that people don't seem to understand that it comparatively takes less effort to port a game than it does to create something brand new. I understand Arlo's point of people not wanting to buy a Wii U for BotW when the Switch was brand new with promises of more games, but if a brand new HD Mario Kart, HD Smash Bros, Monster Hunter with fantastic online multiplayer, new online shooter IP that turns the genre on its head, exclusive Bayonetta sequel, new Donkey Kong Country, multiplayer 3D Mario game, AND two excellent HD ports of older 3D Zelda titles couldn't get people to drop money on a Wii U, I sincerely doubt even a brand spanking new open world Zelda would convince people to pick up the console even if it was released back in 2015 or so.
      AND JESUS CHRIST I LOVE THE WHITE WII U! If they sold the white Wii U with a 32GB hard drive, it would have been so great!

      @cheetah672 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I enjoyed my Wii U during its lifetime and I'm currently having just as much fun with my Switch, but that just kind of adds to the legitimacy of the picture. The greatest games on the Wii U and Switch have SO MUCH overlap, yet the Switch is a runaway hit while the Wii U failed to convince the masses that it had good games, even to the point where tons of people singing the Switch's praises seem legally obligated to piss on the Wii U's grave every time they say something nice about the Switch.
      To be fair, I also agree that the Switch is a better piece of tech than the Wii U, but that doesn't excuse people hating on Switch games while praising the Switch for playing those exact same freaking games!

    The Switch on the other hand, has the Next Pokemon core games, the next core Fire Emblem Game, the Next Smash Bros game, and It had BoTW at the start.
    So far I'm content with only having BotW and Mario Kart. I'm definitely getting Octopath Traveler and Xeno 2 this summer though. Smash was also on the 3DS so they didn't see a point of getting a Wii U just for one game. The 3DS also had a new Zelda game with Link Between Worlds and remakes of OoT and Majora's Mask. Also Breath of The Wild came out at the same time for both Wii U and Switch so why would someone get a Wii U just for BoTW? Your argument is so invalid.

    Bottom line, Nintendo makes great games but their hardware has been behind since N64. So they have hits and misses now as a result. The WiiU was a miss, doesn’t matter why, cause the Switch has managed to be a hit. So now they will keep it flooded with games at a better pace to keep it a hit. Problem will be when PS5 comes out. Will it sell like crazy and overshadow the Switch? I think in Japan handhelds still sell like crazy so the Switch will do well there from now on. However, in the US that’s isn’t the case. Switch is too expensive to replace 3DS so it is still competing with consoles. PS4 is just more popular and more powerful ( I have both by the way). But Nintendo has unique games so most end up buying both. It’s a weird dance that’s been playing since PSOne came out. All I know is that games are fun and I’ll keep buying as many as I can play.

    • @majoraswrath8316
      @majoraswrath8316 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Really, their consoles' graphics have only been behind since the Wii. The N64 was double the power against the 32-bit PlayStation and Saturn. The major reason why a whole slew of developers went over to Sony was how expensive and difficult it was to program for the cartridge-based N64 and the strangely-designed Saturn. And the GameCube was still more advanced than the Dreamcast at least. With the Wii, they went all-in on the motion controls and multiplayer, putting graphics (and HD) on the backburner.

    • @payjeitz4380
      @payjeitz4380 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Jamie V Nintendo has always focused on unique experiences over impressive hardware. And that’s just a marketing choice. You don’t buy a Nintendo console for the latest, greatest graphics but you buy it for the completely exclusive game experiences that you’ll never get on any other console.

    • @stevenn1940
      @stevenn1940 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Exactly Acero Takio. The gameboy line worked so well because it did something others really didn't do, and it did it far better than any other. You don't really get the latest and greatest AAA game on nintendo consoles. It just really doesn't happen. What you do get are nintendo's first party games that will *never* be on any other system. This is part of the reason why the wiiu failed in my opinion: The biggest pillars of those never appeared (really) on the wiiu. One of them is 3d mario games: the wiiu didn't have one. Another is metroid: flat out missing. Pokemon is another, but traditionally handheld (which that selling power has been transferred to the switch), and the last of these is the legend of zelda. Technically the wiiu got BotW, but it got it basically on its last day AS a supported console. Doesn't really count, or move new units if you know what I mean.

    It took the Wii U over 5 years to get all those games and the switch will have them all in less than 2 years. Plus it has third party and indie support that the Wii U never did. In addition it’s fully portable and comes with a normal controller two things the Wii U didn’t have.

    • @clayjack9969
      @clayjack9969 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      BingBong Boopledoop by the end of this year the switch will have almost every worthwhile exclusive that the Wii U had, it is selling like crazy so no doubt we will see tons of new support now that the Wii U well has dried up. Pokémon, Metroid, Yoshi, fire emblem, mario tennis (a good one this time), third party support are all coming to the switch. Not only do people have every great Wii U game, they have a ton of switch exclusives as well. It’s not that hard to wrap your head around why people like the switch’s library more. It is basically the Wii U’s but better in every way.

    • @TornadoCreator
      @TornadoCreator 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Switch and Wii U have literally identical pro controllers, and both of them are sold as extras, so you're wrong there. The Wii U did have third party and indie support in the first 2 years, which dropped off dramatically when sales slowed... Give the Switch time, it could be in the same boat this time next year if third party support dries up. As for the games. Yes the Wii U took 5 years to get all those NEW EXCLUSIVES, in the same time the Switch just stole Wii U games and gave us almost nothing new. The Wii U however had backwards compatibility for over 1500 games from day one. So really, what you're saying is the Switch gave us Super Mario Odyssey and Mario & Rabbids, and FUCK ALL ELSE! in 2 years. The Wii U has way more in the first 2 years and the ENTIRE Wii back catalogue.

    • @clayjack9969
      @clayjack9969 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      TornadoCreator The Switch pro controller is better, it comes with a normal controller with the joy con grip (20 hours of battery life not 4 like the Wii U), The Switch is still being supported. What is better, 20 great games on one system or those same 20 games with added content on a more powerful, fully portable system that is also getting new great games and third party games that have never been on a Nintendo system before. (Games like South Park, Doom, skyrim, dark souls, and crash bandicoot are more liked by Nintendo fans than Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty, Arkham orgins and mass effect 3) People aren’t just buying the switch for the games that are already on store shelves, they are buying it for the new games as well. Something you can’t say about the Wii U. It is so easy to see why the switch is selling, it has almost every great Wii U game, full portability and new games only on that system. The Wii U didn’t have enough games, now that switch does thanks to ports and new games. Backwards compatibility for the Wii add maybe 10 games tops if you don’t include Mario Kart Wii and brawl which are now irrelevant thanks to new installments.

    Yeah, I never understood the logic that Nintendo fans were being hypocrites. Now, I am someone who has called out people being hypocrites about games before. I actually distinctly remember whenever an interesting, hardcore game would come out on Wii, a huge bunch of hardcore gamers would pretend the increasingly casual 7th gen shooters were HARDCORE GAMING, while also pretending that games that were more hardcore by basically any definition of hardcore gaming didn't count (barring maybe heavily marketed first party Nintendo titles). Muramasa and Little King's Story are still 2 of the best games of last gen, bar-none. But yes, people would ignore legit, critically acclaimed hardcore games on Wii actually counted as good hardcore games because reasons. It was really infuriating.
    But, hardcore Nintendo fans were not being hypocrites about Wii U. Nintendo's hardcore fanbase were SOME OF THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT IT. Wii lost its casual audience to smart phones by the end and marketing did everything it could to make sure they didn't want this weird, kinda hard to explain not-sequel yet a follow-up to Wii. Before that, they had burned plenty of people with the N64 and GCN as everyone went to Playstation in terms of home gaming (the original 3rd party Nintendo problem). And Nintendo fans could still keep up with Nintendo games with a cheaper system called the 3DS anyway. Like it had no specific fanbase, and its attempts to appeal to both casual and hardcore gaming backfired. Perfect example of trying to appeal to everyone and then appealing to...well not no one, but the amount of even fans of Wii U who will consider it their favorite console is likely pretty small.

    I really don't agree about Splatoon.
    I found Spla2oon to be a unimaginative sequel that really only added Salmon Run, which is a great mode....that we can't always play, a choice that still baffles me to this day.
    The sequels story mode was boring in comparison, and the levels were fuckin LONG. And the main game modes...I found myself getting plain frustrated playing it. It didn't feel fun, I didn't feel like I was working with teammates (unlike in salmon run), and I just found myself getting angry at the game.
    I think Splatoon 2 is barely more than the first game.
    Marina is the best part, but even then they don't have the same personality appeal of the squid sisters.

    • @heavydonkeykong5190
      @heavydonkeykong5190 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rita Cocco and that's exactly what 3d world does better. Odysseys openness causes 3d world and the galaxy levels to have a more better structure in the level design. Odyssey has lots of platforming as well, but 3d world and the galaxy games still put more emphasis on I, so those looking for a more "pure" platforming experience MIGHT be more satisfied with them.
      I still prefer Odyssey over 3dworld, but I still personally don't think that 3d world falls quite as short as some people might say when comparing the two. It's actually one of my favorite Mario titles. I like it about as much as smb3 and Mario world. The only Mario games that actually surpass 3dworld for me personally are Odyssey and the galaxy games.

    In case anyone’s wondering...
    The Wii U sold 13.5M units in 5 years
    The Switch sold close to 18M in less than a year and a half.

    This might sound mad but so far I have enjoyed more Wii U games than I have Switch, discounting ports.
    Wii U:
    - Smash
    - Kirby Paintbrush
    - Splatoon 1
    - Mario Maker
    - 3D World
    - The Wonderful 101
    - Sonic Transformed
    - Sonic Lost World
    Switch:
    - Breath of Wild
    - Mario and Rabbids
    - Sonic Mania
    - Super Mario Odyssey
    - Fire Emblem Warriors
    I'm looking forward to future Switch games like Smash 5 and Metroid Prime. However I feel the quality of Wii U titles was superior because - similar to the GameCube - Nintendo tried to really push the features like the creativity of Splatoon and MK8, or the roster in Smash 4.

      Same boat with me. Wii U is my fav console ever actually. I still play it more than the Switch (trying to wrap up games on it before moving on)

      David McBean It's got a Dreamcast-like charm to it. Though I prefer the Dreamcast over the Wii U :)

    Only point I’ll make here, is that Nintendo still had split systems at that point with varied and shared libraries.
    Buying a 3D/2ds was the cheaper(sometimes better) choice for most people because you could still play smash, Mario kart and other fun stuff while not buying another whole system. The switch killed that by making two categories come together with portable and home systems

    250k is a big number but it’s not big enough for you man, you are possibly the most underrated TH-camr. How you haven’t broken a mil yet is seriously beyond me, the effort that must go into your videos and the production quality is just awesome. Keep doing what you’re doin dude
