BeatEmUps hey there is way to get it to work.....remeber that nintendo app on phone to talk to friends....well mario maker docked could use that app to let you make and modify levels with your phone or tablet and you play games with joycon or pro controler and in handheld mode the switch does both..its a way to make the app make some sense...

I don't really feel like calling Odyssey a better version of 3D World is fair. They're completely different. I would definitely say 3D World is worth it even after playing Odyssey.

But if you see second hand one in good condition with a bundle of games for a good price I'd still recommend getting one.
The Gunman If you have a switch already the only way I'd recommend it is if you plan on doing the softmod ( unless your a collector). Between CEMU and the fact that all the notable Wii U games currently not on switch will most likely get ported slowly over the next couple years, there just isn't much of a reason.
Similar reply to Timothy. If you already have a Switch, it depends what games the bundle has. If you luck out and it has all the games in my last bracket in this video (so like, Paper Mario, Xeno X, Mario Maker etc) Then sure go for it! I imagine you would have to get pretty lucky though for that to happen. Plus those games still run a pretty penny, so your bundle might not be that cheap at that point.
It's all situational. The point of the video is I wouldn't recommend going out and buying a Wii U at this point, unless you are a collector or REALLY want to play those left over exclusives that, let's be honest, are most likely all on their way to Switch city.

Exactly what I did. I didn't have a switch and got a second hand WiiU in mint condition including an original pro controller and these 5 games: Xenoblade X, Pikmin 3, Lego City Undercover, Splatoon, and Zelda Wind Waker HD all this for less than about 35% of a switch with no games and no extra accessories. Plus, It has backwards compatibility with Wii games so I got 2 consoles in 1 and that was the main reason I got it. Being somewhat of a collector and wanting to get Wii classics such as Okami, Xenoblade 1, Muramasa, The Last Story,etc... Nonetheless, If you're on the market to get a new console and you're neither a collector nor you care for backwards compatibility I would go for the switch.

Preach it brother! I have the Mario Maker edition Wii U and I still play it once a week. My stylus pen won’t even stay in the controller anymore and falls out because of the frequency of how much I would use it to make levels. There is still very much an active Mario Maker community .

I only got a Switch this week after playing my Wii U for such a long time. I like the switch a lot, a whole lot! But the Wii U holds a special place in my heart. I say the Wii U is worth every penny (previously owned) to this day.
Yeah, unless you're a hacker I wouldn't buy a Wii U. It's basically been discontinued at this point and all the (big) games you can get on Wii U you can get on the switch. Also the switch runs at 720p-1080p with bigger battery life. People only say get it because of nostalgic reasons.
@@Noah-hx9oi Yes. Wii U is an easily modified system. I would say only get one, pre-owned, and if you want to save money. Switch games are expensive. Considering how many people opted for the Switch Lite, we see that there is still a market for gaming with less than cutting edge graphic capabilities. I say if that's what your into, spend your gaming dollars on a decked out gaming PC or wait for the upcoming Series X or PS5. Personally, partly because I'm a bit older, I stay a gen behind these days and wait for those used systems and games to come back on the market. It's new to me, and I don't have a peer group that expects me to be riding the consumer wave with them. I'm just in it for the fun.

I sold my Wii-U when I bought my Switch, but later regretted it and bought another Wii-U. There are so many games I enjoy on the Wii-U that have not and may not ever be ported to the Switch. They both have their place. Granted, the Wii-U's usefulness increased even further when I modded it to play my GameCube games.

Even after seeing this video, and being a Switch owner for a few months, I still want a Wii U.
It has ports to over 6 different consoles with a selection of the main titles for each platform, while the switch just has has two ports, NES and SNES. Also the Wii u has tons of remastered games like tp hd and wind waker hd, and the switch only really is slightly more portable and has a few more new games, which are easily buried by the vast amounts of ported games playable by the Wii u!

I know this is a late reply but personally I prefer the Wii u the Nintendo switch is not bad but it gets stuck drift too early and new controllers are 80 or 60 dollars which is a lot for just controllers and also in my opinion the Wii u is still really good.

+max pain, the Wii U CAN play gamecube games. But you have to soft mod it. Which I don't think it's difficult (I don't really know because I never owned a Wii U, too expensive)
Raidoom Its not that difficult.
max pain it's super easy to soft mod the console, and the Wii U already contains the hardware to play GameCube games as well as the Wii. It just can't play from the disc, you need to backup the game first. And those are extremely easy to find on the net if you don't know how to back them up yourself.
Given my Wii U not only has access to Wii U games, but the entire catalog of Wii games as well. Not to mention a the Wii U and the Wii's virtual console. It still has plenty worth.
Love your videos, but as somebody who has picked up a Wii U in the last month, I respectively disagree. Basic reasons
1) Even if there are only 5-10 great games that are exclusive to the Wii U, those games alone make the system worth it.
2) The dozen or so great games that have been ported to the Switch can be played for a fraction of the price on a Wii U. You can pick up a used Wii U, extra controller and good game library for the Wii U for less than the cost of the base Switch. These games are great, and playing them on a Wii U is a screaming bargain right now.
3) Virtual Console, enough said (even though the Wii U virtual console sucks compared to the Wii... why oh why didn't I get this before the wii shop closed)
4) Speaking of the Wii, that's the real reason to get a Wii U. While there may be, literally, 1,000 crappy games for the Wii, there are easily 100 great ones many of which are Wii exclusive and unlikely to every come out elsewhere. And there is no better way to play Wii games than on the Wii U. And since most of these games can be picked up for dirt cheap (the Wii U is a cheapskates dream) it's a must buy, IMO, for anyone who doesn't have a Wii or Wii U.

All of the wii ware games are unofficially backed up online, so you can just download them and transfer them via sd card.

I just bought my 2nd Wii U to have at my studio and I love it! I seriously own a Full Complete North American Set of the Wii U including Devils Third! (Good Luck finding that game collectors!
I bought a Wii U last year, having heaps of fun with it - so far played it more than my Switch (even though I love the Switch). Also, it's the ultimate Wii, never forget it is the best place to play Wii games on.....

Stores in Australia are starting to sell Wii U games at clearance rates so picked a few up and just plugged my Wii U back in.

I still play my Wii U for virtual console, Wii games, and those great games that have not yet gotten a sequel or port
Miiverse being discontinued takes it down immensely. The system feels like a corpse without it. Especially Mario Maker and the Miiverse stage in Smash.

The system isn't a corpse for anyone who didn't utilize the features of Miiverse. The loss of the ability to upload videos/replays is indeed devastating but outside of that I only cared about the actual games on Wii U.

I got a Wii U for Christmas back in 2013, and I still love it, but even I have to admit, it's getting harder to recommend unless you're a serious collector.
I think it important for many people to remember one thing - the WII U will likely become the best console to mod of all time - playing gamecube, wii, and wii u games perfectly native with hdmi out. Not to mention older system emulators. Very similar legacy as the mod popularity of the original xbox

If I had to choose between the switch and the Wii U I would choose the Wii U
For me, Nintendo is Zelda. Zelda is Nintendo. Therefore I had to buy Wii U even though I already owned the Switch. BotW is the only Zelda game that's been released on the Switch. I never played Windwaker or Skyward, so I had to buy Wii U. It's a huge bonus you can download Ocarina and Majora through the virtual console too, something that I really miss on the Switch.
I just ordered one for exact same reason. I own a switch and think it is overrated right now until it gets Pokemon, Metroid, more games ported from the Wii U, and some other backwards compatibility other than NES.
That's what I did with mine. Bought it couple years back in anticipation of the "Zelda WiiU" and loaded it up with all the Virtual Console Zelda titles, Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, backwards compatible Skyward Sword, and the Breath of the Wild to top it off. It's been a great way to introduce my girlfriend and her kid to this wonderful franchise.

This is a great point.. my son loves Zelda games, and we picked up link from the past, ocarina, Minish cap, never played skyward sword, and the HD Zeldas look dam good. The Wii U is loaded with those games- and the switch has what? BOTW (ported from the Wii U)

I think it's still worth for Xenoblade, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Captain Toad, Splatoon 1, etc but the price of the console is still very high.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions is only good if you've never played fire emblem before, cause they ruined the FE characters. Xenoblade x is really meh. Splatoon 2 is literally splatoon 1 but better, and who would buy a whole console for captain toad?

Just picked a wii u in 2019 and dont regret it a bunch of cool games to play at far cheaper price than the switch and it can play my whole wii games just love it

Just bought a factory refurbished Wii U maybe 6 months ago. With a little massaging, I can play pretty much the entire Nintendo library all the way back to the NES. The only games it won't play are Switch games which are mostly ported Wii U games.

I’ve had a Wii U for 5 years, nothing has broken. My friend has a switch for a year and it has drift on all of the joycons and it’s bumpers are broken. Wii U seems to be a lot more durable than the switch.
It's because of added button press + it's a handheld, so it gets dusty easier

I have a Switch and recently bought a Wii U. They are available pretty cheaply and the games that are available for both consoles are *significantly* cheaper on the Wii U. Also, Haxchi.

I got a Wii-U Deluxe 32GB a few months ago and I love the virtual console for retro games and it's got loads of great games and accessories to collect, I still love the Wii-U and use it most days.
I just like collecting retro games and buying a ton of cheap games and accessories all at once.

I found a sweet bargain for my little brother. A Wii U, two controllers, and over a dozen games for 200 bucks.

Just softmod it and add all your games to a hard drive. Add Wii games, add GameCube games. Add N64, SNES, mega drive etc.
I sold on all my wiiu games to get Switch at launch. I bought Zelda, mario kart deluxe and a few more ports last year, but for me, I've paid for these games, full price when they launched on WiiU. So, I'm not buying anymore WiiU ports and holding onto my modded WiiU. It's the best system!
Sure it's great to have the WiiU ports on the Switch and play away from TV, but for me, nintendo got my full 60euro for each game at the original launch time.
I'll only buy new games for Switch from here on out.

Jesus Perez sure, basically it's the same as softmodding a Wii to play GameCube. There are hundreds of videos on TH-cam explaining how to do it step by step.

The Wii U is trashy though.
Sure, it misses all the low quality indies. But there is something about playing Call of Duty Ghosts with a friend couch play online and each having his own screen. One on the tv and one on the gamepad and it's sad that that magic isn't on any other console.
I don't have either of those games, but I still agree. I still occasionally play games like MK8 and Bayonetta, but I have no intention of rebuying them. I'm really enjoying Legend of Kay and am finally about to beat it. Splatoon 1 & 2 are completely interchangeable in my opinion. And my favorite game (and no, I'm not kidding) Devil's Third is guaranteed to stay a Wii U exclusive.

Stop making the Wii U seem like terrible product. For people who can't afford a Switch, the Wii U is an excellent choice. And there are still plenty of Wii U exclusives like 3d world, twilight princess, and... mario maker! (the 3ds version of mario maker is TERRIBLE.)

£100 for a preowned boxed 32gb (£80 unboxed) and games now, of which you show in video, at 10 to 15 quid, Wii U still offers value for kids and big kids who don't have the cash for a switch. I picked one up via straight trade at cex for 7 ps4 games i never played, so its a cheap way to get an introduction and in particular if you havent got the cash to hand for latest tech. I just like having all the consoles purely for prosperity and i think in time, the Wii U, if in good condition will hold its value. There will be a rise in their prices so get one now boxed, in good condition, play it, stick it away for your grandkids inheritence.

Okay, did either of you watch the video? I didn't even remotely say that. Infact I said I didn't like Xenoblade 2 and I preferred Xenoblade X. But since there is A Xenoblade on the Switch now, it's hardly worth picking up an entire system for one game BUT you can easily add it to PRO list of reasons to buy a Wii U if you were already looking for one.
And yes you are correct, I didn't play 30 hours of boring gameplay to get to a 'good part' in Xenoblade 2. I ended up putting in 25 and tapped the hell out. Xenoblade X however, wonderful game.

I still highly recommend you push through xenoblades first 3 chapters though. Xenoblade X didnt start off with a really fleshed out combat system either but because it had such a huge beginning, the areas blew your mind and you could clearly see all the things you were missing in terms of combat it made you anticipate the grind and stick with it. its easy to not know what you're missing in xenoblade when everything appears to be fully fleshed out from the first few chapters.
Trust me dude you'd be doing yourself a huge disservice not to break it to chapter 4. it aint just a 'good part'. its an entirely different game thats so damn overwhelming you'll wish it was as simple as you see it now.
Eh. Most people I know didn't enjoy it much either. I started playing Lost Sphear yesterday and fell in love immediately. The gameplay is engaging from the start, even though I clearly haven't unlocked everything, it's still FUN to play. I don't need to wait 30 hours to start having fun, I can just enjoy it now. If Xeno2 had an incredible story, I would persevere through the game just to watch the story unfold but honestly it is far to basic of a plot, with boring characters and average voice acting. Most amazing RPGS and JRPGS i have played, start fun and stay consistantly fun throughout. Adding new things to the gameplay and story as it goes. Xeno 2 starts you with barebones nothing and rewards you if you keep playing, but 30 hours is too long for me. Plus I love side quests, so I have been doing as many as I can in Xeno 2 which has really set me back. I'm sure for me at this point I would need to get to 40-45 hours in before I hit that point. I would rather finish Lost Spear in that time and move on to something else. I have too much to play to spend 40 hours on something I don't like.
It's just not for me. Xeno 2 and Lost Sphear (for example) are very different JRPGS, and I just prefer the later. I liked Xeno X a lot, but I didn't love it. I prefer something like Kingdom Hearts style of combat when it comes to those kinds of RPGs.
I just want them to put Twilight Princess Hd and Wind Waker HD on the Switch.

I agree with you! Last two years of the Wii U, I would recommend it as an underrated system with an underrated video game library, but wasn’t for everyone. I liked a lot of the features and ability to play off screen. But 6 months ago, I decided to store it away. I have a few games on the list that’s I’d still like to play, but I’d rather just have them ported. I’m thrilled at Hyrule Warriors coming and I hope Toad Treasure Tracker comes over too!

Just bought two Wii U consoles from eBay and I absolutely amazed by it with my kids. Ready to sell Wii, but I'll keep all accessories for it I have indeed. I'm collecting missing accessories, because it's very fun and cheap. Fantastic library with full backwards compatibility. I love it!
The plan is to make it PORTABLE with special powerbank with sockets. The console is not too heavy, it'll be easy to carry on the bag.

I still use my Wii U and I own a Switch. Retro games on my Wii u bring me back to the Wii u. Super Metroid, Paper Mario, Ocarina of Time, Link to the past, Contra 3Alien Wars, Super Castlevania iv, until the Switch brings these games, my Wii u is still useful. Hopefully the switch hurries up and brings these games to it.

I'm considering hacking my Wii U since it's now declared dead, updates likely won't come. That way, I can make the GC-2-WiiU Adaptor work in Wii Mode, and become an ultimate replacement for Wii games. With time, the Wii U will become even more destroyed and might share a similar fate to the PSvita in terms of hacking, hopefully.

Reasons why Wii U still is good:
* you can play Wii Games in HD (looks very nice!) and only recently I actually discovered that there are so many overseen good games for the Wii which are still very affordable
* you theoretically can play Gamecube games on it (but not physically unfortunately)
* there are some games which will only exist on Wii U (if not being released on some of Nintendo's emulators in 25 years; but it's so awesome to have the original feeling of a game as it was originally designed for). Anyone who didn't enjoy those exclusive can't barely be called a former Wii U fan
* the same way, you can get a lot of top tier genre games instead on Wii U, less expensive, until they will slightly increase in price like Gamecube games did
However, for people who temporarily look for video games, one generation for life or until kids are grown up, those might be better served with the switch having a lot of ports and sequels which feel alike. But if you know gaming, no sequel is actually an replacement of a prequel, it is never the same experience. And if you enjoy some genres and studios deeply, you surely have fun with Wii U. It's like an expansion packs for games you like. With the NX the Wii U got cheaper, used of course. I have never heared of consoles who get cheaper being new over a long time.
Conclusion: Wii U is a nice console but Switch has more titles and tries to add replacements which are good enough for casual players.
We need an updated version where the wii u gets hammered down more xD
