Thank you for this video... I bought the Utaker a few years ago, used them just as normal beds for when my sons were home from college... We almost just got rid of them because we are downsizing... I am so glad we didn't, I can now repurpose them into a couch! Thank you!!
What a great project!! Loved the caning and the simple but high end boho design dupe. You did an excellent job. Miles is a great little helper. He'll be building furniture in no time lol. Jo
Hi! A huge thank you from a tiny flat in Paris! We had these daybeds as a couch in our living-room because we really need the extra beds often, but we had always been a bit disappointed by the look. Now we have a very nice sofa and we're super happy!
Great job, as usual, Megan! You amaze me with the things that you accomplish with a little one to take care of. I can tell that Miles is watching closely. 😉❤️
I have a different wood twin platform frame bed that I'm using as a sofa in my living room and it has been driving me crazy that it doesn't have any arms. Even though I've made a cane headboard before, this particular project seemed like such a daunting task to do. But not anymore thanks to you! I'm definitely getting on this next weekend! Thanks!
This is perfect timing! I've been looking into this Ikea daybed and now seeing how beautiful you can make it I think it will work perfectly! Thanks for the diy! ♥️ Just curious, how do you like the Minnesund mattresses?
You can do it! The Minnesund is very firm, but honestly quite impressive for how THIN it is. I thought for sure it would get a little thicker as it expanded, and when I saw it didn't I was positive it would be uncomfortable, but it really isn't. I may invest in mattress toppers for guests in the future, but as is, it's really great for the price.
Yeah📣 I Ditto Everything they said below🔔 Excellent Video Ty! Your Tutorial & details in the making is right-on! I do want to make this: I wish you listed the Cost of Project🌱
Yea like some else comment. Right timing. I’m trying to find the best way to make my toddlers room new bed transitioning from crib and this just the right way. I was thinking of a trundle bed but this is good one too.
love it!! You just saved a massive argument my hubby and I were having about keeping a big Queen bed in the basement. Now we can do this and get rid of it and still have a spot for guests. Once Covid is over. lol
Wonderful video! I have been looking at the Ikea Utakers and always found them a little lacking. This is brilliant! I do have a question. At the end of the video you have the beds side-by-side, but there is no gap. How did you manage that? When I fully expand the bed, the two wooden frames are placed against each other, causing a gap between the mattresses.
I absolutely loved this video - the boho / minimalist look and the amazing budget friendly version ! I wanted to ask what kind of camera + mount / stand did you use and any specific lighting? gosh... it was so LOVELY to watch and crisp and clean too! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and creativity! :)
You are my new fave!!!! New sub!! You explain things so well!!!!! Down to what size nail to use!!! Little details I need. Thank you!!! One question, when you predrill for screws do you drill through both pieces of wood or just the first?
That means so much to me! I definitely intend to come off that way. I definitely predrilled my holes. You always want to do that or you could experience some splitting in your wood.
This is beautiful, and I love how you styled it! Do you think this would hold up as a daily sofa? I am looking for a sofa/sleep solution for a studio space. So far I can only find the Fyresdal daybed that looks like it could handle daily use while looking ok, but this is so much more stylish!
We use ours quite often and it has held up great. We don't lean against the caning which is fine because it is so deep that you actually cant sit and lean against the back at the same time. My son and I both lounge on it daily.
Bought the same bed and i am wanting to make a frame for it. I checked your description and I was a bit confused on how many total full size wood pieces you needed for this project?
Awesome design. I just aw that CB2 bed and am going to build it myself too. I’m curious what thickness the plywood was that you used to cove the edge of the cane. Also, does it sit flush over the cane or did you need to rabbet out that part? Thanks!
I absolutely love this idea for some reason I always have people over so its very difficult to minimize the furniture in my bedrooms I want my house to be more functional now that I work from home. this is a game changer. thank you!!!
My wife and I had been looking for a nice way to give guests to sleep in our small townhouse and, thanks to your video, we settled on this solution. One question though; I followed the links you provided for the caning but couldn't figure out which one you used. How big were the rolls? Thanks!
i believe she says 18" x 100"' around the 7:25 mark in the video but i was trying to determine which "radio weave" caning she got. it kind of looks like the fine unbleached one on the Franks Supply website, but i wasn't quite sure either. i hope she replies! i just loved this video and is an answer to our prayers when company comes!!
i see she does mention it in the Links and Stuff section above. sorry i missed that before :) "...ordered the fine radio weave in the 18" width, you'll need at least 100 inches for this project"
How do you like this daybed? Did you get it with the mattress from IKEA? Been looking into this bed for a while and this video solidified that it’s what I want, with the upgrade you designed!
I have only lounged on it, but my sister in law and her kids say it is very comfortable and have spent many nights on it since I built it. I thought I should get a mattress topper because the mattresses seem thin but apparently they are very comfortable without one!
I love this hack, I think I might try it. have you had any problems with the beds falling off from each other when sitting on it? I know these type of beds can do that, thanks love all your hacks =]
Hey there! Thank you. And No, they don’t just “sit” on top of each other, there’s a deep crevice the top bed sits into. It’s very safe and sturdy when stacked.
Such great Work! I'm very eager to use your technique for the back of my couch. Have you had any issues with ripping the cane out of the staple attachement?
@@MeganBell hahaha my personal style is very eclectic and colorful. My wife was all neutrals when we met and now shes out here buying super colorful area rugs 😂
How stable is the backing of the daybed? I want to do this to the same utaker set and one side will be against a window so about halfway up it will not be leaning against a flush wall. Would love to hear how it's holding up, thank you!
It is not stable enough to lean against. I should have disclosed this in the video. It is mostly decorative. But we have had no issues with it otherwise. We just ask people not to lean against it when they sleep on it.
Love this! Which IKEA mattresses did you get, and have you slept on them, are they comfortable? Do they sell sheets or covers that fit their tiny mattresses?
Oops nevermind just saw the link for the mattresses and that they have washable covers - but would still love to know if they are actually comfortable to sit/sleep on!
Hey Juliet! They’re very thin and firm mattresses, which for the price are surprisingly comfortable. I’ve already taken a few naps on this daybed in the last two weeks since I put it together and I’m someone who likes a very soft mattress. If this is somewhere you plan to sit, lay or sleep on everyday I would think to invest in a mattress that suits your personal needs, but if this is just an occasional lounge and guest area, then the minnesund ikea mattresses are perfect
@@MeganBell Thank you!! I want to use this for a flexible guest space, just like you are. I've been eyeing these stackable beds for a while but your DIY has me excited now!

Thank you so much for sticking around! Means the world. 💛

Thank you so much! What isn't shown is him demanding more snacks, giving me kisses and often times climbing on me 😂 these are truly the days!
This was honestly the best DIY tutorial I’ve seen ! 💞💞
Wow, thank you!
WoW! This was an awesome video and so easy to follow too. A great idea for seating but also turns into a guest double or king size bed. Perfect.
Glad it was helpful!

I'm sure that 2 twin beds makes a king size when they're side by side. A double bed is full size
It was the chunky baby that did it for me😍
Ever though about detachable cane to hide the lower mattress when bed is stacked? Would finish the look IMO.
Love it!! ❤
looks great!

For the cane webbing from Frank Supply - did you order the fine radio weave in unbleached or regular?

Yes I do! I have had zero complaints from guests who have slept on them. I considered adding mattress toppers but have been told its unnecessary .
im NOT handy ! :( any hacks for arms and a back that might be easier??

They’re ikea. They come with the daybed
You are amazing
Thank you!
I keep asking about the overalls. Please tell me where to buy
Hey Barbara! I’m sorry if I missed your previous inquiries. They are from Target 💛
Pretty, but there is a reason the CB2 bed is made with 2x2s, probably mortised and tenoned together.
For sure, but this is a more budget friendly option and it also has a lot more sleeping square footage. Thanks for watching!
