Gary Ritchrath, one of the best Rock guitarist you'll find. Lucky I got to see him, hope you enjoy when R E O Spedwagon was ROCKERS! Gary always seemed to be never recognized as a Good one
Hey Travis and Suzi, as always, I hope all finds you well. About a year ago you reacted to "Ridin' The Storm Out" by R.E.O. Speedwagon. In that reaction Travis loved the way Gary Richrath was jammin' on the guitar, his solo in it is awesome. Well, here is another video where Gary once again burns the house down. While the song carries a great message, his guitar playing is 2nd to none. If you have ever watched the movie "Back To The Future", at the end Marty McFly gets some weird looks for how he jams out on the guitar, he tells them maybe they are not ready for that but their kids will love it. To those of us who grew up in the 70's and 80's we got to experience all that great guitar playing and other instrumentation, along with the singers 1st hand, and it's great to be able to share it and pass it along. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Gary Richrath great guitarist. RIP. Gary wrote this song as well as Riding The Storm Out, Take It On The Run and many others. This is when REO was a rock band!

His flying turkey trot live solo is way beyond golden country solo promise
This is perhaps the best example of Gary's absolutely stellar lead solos. Definitely my favorite. Not only was he criminally underrated, but he wrote a great deal of REO'S songs.
If you want to hear another example of a severely underrated lead guitarist with absolutely blistering live solo, I HIGHLY recommend listening to Blue Oyster Cult's Live Album, "On Your Feet or On Your Knees" (1975) & specifically, track 3, "Hot Rails to Hell." The solo is in the latter part of the song & it's worth it! BOC is my favorite group, but when I hear stuff like this from Gary, REO becomes a close second.
As to what you read, I agree with them. I feel very privileged to have grown up in the '70s with the music we had. I got to see many artists when they were first starting out, or early in their careers: Elton in London, 1977; Van Halen in their first tour in support of their debut album; Kansas touring in support of the "Leftoverture" album (with the opening act an unknown band called Cheap Trick" (1978). So many others.... I love seeing younger folks get to hear this great rock I grew up with, and enjoyed as a young adult. I still love it. I'm 66 now & won't stop 'til I die!
saw them in 76-they were an Illinois band and headlined an outdoor concert at-ISU i think, could've been U of I-great show and yes, they did this song!!
Amazing Song. Came out when 1972? Amazing every issue, they describe in this song still exists today. Politicians are awesome as they accomplish nothing but claim to be on our side.

The first time I saw REO they opened for Aerosmith & they blew them away. (Aerosmith's drug days) Gary Richrath was underated.

Kind of ironic, I saw these guys on July 4th 1976 (the bi-centennial). Really good show with Heart and Pure Prairie League. If you want another good in-your-face rocker try almost anything off their first album. The radio hit was 157 Riverside Ave., but I recommend Gypsy Woman's Passion. A little more Gary centric. I liked the singer better then Cronin too. If nothing else give them a personal listen. I think you will get a kick out of them.

No one could make a guitar chirp like Gary could. He's why I saw REO many times in the 70s/80s. Lost interest when he left.
No more movie remakes! 😂 I’m even sick of kids covering rock songs! It’s like they can’t write their own so they just sing other’s songs. I HATE the karaoke cover kings like Tommy Johansson and others. I know Tommy had a band or two years ago but for crying out loud, write some of your own damn music! Or at least if you’re going to cover someone else’s music, change it up and make it your own like Johnny Cash did with the song “Hurt”, and Sinead did with “Nothing Compares 2 U”. If you’re covering a song on TH-cam and I can’t go to Amazon or wherever and buy it on vinyl or CD, then you’re just a karaoke singer and I won’t even listen to you.
