Huge fan of Meat and Jim Steinman, but you have to admit there are some bizarre aspects to this video. Following him to the house is odd enough, but taking a bath after bathing in the lake, and then this orgy? Odd aspects were added here, and I agree they don't do the song justice.
I’m so confused how Andy knows so much about about music theory yet hasn’t heard of some of the biggest artists of all time, it like his music knowledge only goes back to nickelback
None of these 3 punks knows ANYTHING about music, and certainly even LESS about GREAT music. This is what happens when teenagers get access to the computer with no parental supervision.
Meat Loaf is the singer, his band is The Neverland Express, Some of his songs were written by Jim Steinman and were played on MTV, BBC Top of the Pops and National/Local Radio (in the UK not sure about other country's). His songs were all inspired by Jim's and his own experiences growing up and some of the Music Video's were quite Fantacy and Motorbike related in nature
By the time of this song's release, MTV had largely shifted to genres like rap and grunge. This sound got much more airplay on VH1, where MTV's original core audience had mostly shifted, at least in the U.S.
@@michaelsoper3610 Ok I could be Wrong there I am sure I saw the Vid on MTV at one point in the 90s, I mostly saw it on Top of the Pops as it was the Longest song at NO 1 at that point

This was the period that killed MTV as a driver in the music industry and forced the change to reality programming.

Absolutely! In any field of a career to really excel in it is to know the pioneers and past legends. He probably never heard of Stevie Ray Vaughn either. Meat Loaf was/is a GIANT in music industry, not a one hit wonder.
Meatloaf was just him. He was an amazingly underrated artist because for his time he was not visually appealing, however his music is and was legendary. It's funny that the younger have any clue who Meatloaf was. He could sing Rock Balads and Rock Opera like non other. Meatloaf was one of a kind and truly great. May he RIP
That's not technically wrong, but it is wrong. Meatloaf is the singer and phenomenal in his own right. But as an artist, He owes his biggest hits to Jim Steinman's writing. Neither one could have been as big as they were, without the other.
Meat played Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show…hence his theatrical presentations. He was a legit Broadway actor. There is a whole Beauty and the Beast story going on here.

Depth, is what comes in time. This song was a couple decades before 'Bat Out of Hell'. PLEASE!!!! Show these youngsters some original Meat Loaf. BTW - Meat Loaf is an actor, is several movies, and fought for everything he received. EDIT: Shrek? WTF?
Quick correction. This song came out 16 years AFTER Bat Out of Hell. Bat Out of Hell dropped in '77 and Bat Out of Hell II, which this song was on, dropped in '93. Both outstanding albums.
The really tragic thing is not even knowing who Meat Loaf is. He was in so much. I think he was in the 70's musical "Hair" on stage and both the stage musical and the film of The Rocky Horror Picture show. His Bat Out of Hell album is one of the biggest selling albums of all time, he was in a bunch of films including playing Bob in Fight Club and child Jack Black's angry father in Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny. He was a legendary rocker, and now nothing. Sad how quickly the past is forgotten these days.
Remember there's a sequel to this video called I'd Die for You (And That's the Truth). The songs written by Diane Warren, not Jim Steinman but it's still just as epic. Meatloaf began on Broadway, did a couple of albums before releasing his debut album Bat Out of Hell where he began a long relationship with Jim Steinman where most of his best songs come from. This video played on rotation for MTV and VH1 when they actually played videos and unlike many videos in the 2000's told stories usually based on the song (no song about having no money while a girl twerks for no reason). Meatloaf was very theatrical and along with Jim many songs were about love, heartbreak, depression and reflection/regrets. Objects in the Rearview Mirror is another great song about reflection of the past, the affect life gives you and your memories
@@bonnielee78 and that was started by artists like Michael Jackson and Madonna who felt that their songs on a music channel should tell short stories. Before then music videos were basically bad effect videos or live performances with the studio recording played over it.

I saw Meat Loaf play in a bar in Buffalo, NY, in the late '80s. They were playing on an outdoor stage in a courtyard behind the bar. It was standing only, on a sandy volleyball court. Best concert ever! The sound of his voice live was incredible. My best friend still has the guitar pick they threw from the stage and got caught in her hair. We had a lot of hair in the '80s. 😆
The video is a modern re-imagining of Dracula, the novel by Bram Stoker. The twist at the end is how Dracula gets a Beauty and the Beast ending, driving into the sunset with Mina. In the original novel, Dracula attempts to turn Mina into a vampire by drinking her blood and having her drink his blood, but Mina uses her psychic connection to Dracula to help vampire hunter, Van Helsing, hunt down and kill Dracula. The guy chasing them into the castle with the police would have been Van Helsing. And the three women in the bed were the women from Dracula's castle that attempted to seduce Jonathan Harker in the original book (and, yes, movie). There are several classic rock songs from the 60s through the 90s that pull from classic literature.
Meatloaf is the man, not a band. He’s very dramatic. He was in Rocky Horror. Bat Out of Hell is an epic album. Song “Paradise by the Dashboard Lights” is a total experience. All of us Gen X’ers consider it an anthem. His name was Robert Paulson!
His name is Robert Paulson. His name is Robert Paulson. His name is Robert Paulson. Fun fact that is relevant right now. There was a Fallout spinoff action RPG named Brotherhood of Steel that is sort of the dirty little secret of Fallout games. In one level you can find a bunch of enemies standing around a table with a corpse on it chanting, “His name is Robert Paulson.”
Nah, didn't enjoy this one guys. These little kids acting like experts, which obviously they're not. I feel insulted for Meat Loaf, who was probably more talented than both these brats put together. If you ask them on again for their 'opinions', I won't be watching that one. Total turn-off.
This was Meatloaf's only number 1 hit. It stayed at #1 for five weeks consecutively. The video for I Would do Anything for Love was directed by Michael Bay of Transformers' fame in 1993.
As per youngsters are apt to do, they think they know everything. Can't they just enjoy the experience for what it is? Take a step outside your frame of reference for once...you may enjoy it if you let yourself! Also, why does the video have to make sense? Very little does anymore. Work with us here, people!
This version is the "radio edit", a cut down from the original album length song that is around 12 minutes or so long, there is a verse and a half, maybe two, not used in the video. The main girl in the video is model Dana Patrick, lip-sincing over the vocals of Lorraine Grosby, listed as "Mrs Loud" on the album credits. As others have said, this is another collaboration with the brilliant Jim Steinmann, with whom Meatloaf had a long and fruitful association. This is one of those songs that you really need to hear the entire album of,,, actually all 3 "Bat Out Of Hell" albums, undisturbed, through good quality personal listening equipment, in a quiet corner, with your favourite beverage... There is a story connection that runs through each of the albums, and it becomes a little clearer when you hear them in their entirety. Well worth the time to also go through Meatloaf's complete discography, there are some absolute bangers within...😁 🙃🐨🇦🇺

Hey guys, I’m an old 80’s rock dude. I always saw this video of his song as a dark fantasy version of Beauty & the Beast. He’s the ugly dude and she’s the beautiful girl he knows he can’t get. As the video goes on you see Meatloaf in places like in the mirror with his own face, then they go back to the monster as him in makeup and costume who knows he can’t be with her…
That’s their problem with the video. They’re so used to all the auto tune crap they’re fed today and all the tik tok videos they cant appreciate real music. Not sure how I feel about BP’s reaction with them. I would’ve been pushing them to be more open minded cause from the start the young boy thought it was a joke and never allowed it to be anything other than a joke.
The women who look like they could be starting an orgy are actually a scene from a movie called Bram Stoker's Dracula. As a result, I always thought he was saying he wouldn't turn her into a vampire when watching the video. The song itself has always inspired debate over what exactly he wouldn't do...but if you pay attention you'll figure it out. Musical tastes can certainly change as a person matures. I didn't think they were ready for the video & it distracted them from the song to some extent. Try some Bob Seger on them. If the young man is a musician he should not miss out on that rabbit hole! RIP Meatloaf! ❤ You are missed!!!

Meatloaf is timeless and an incredible talent, compared to the crap their generation generates they have a lot of gall to laugh and utter inane comments on a classic video.
Meatloaf played Robert Paulson in the movie Fight Club. If you remember that Brad Pitt and Edward Norton movie. He also played Eddie in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Since it keeps coming up - "Meat Loaf" was a guy, born Marvin Lee Aday. That's him in the video. Let the Gen Zers see "Paradise By The Dasboard Lights". Most people don't get this song on first listen. The video distracts even more from the lyrics. Hint: "What" won't he do?

VERY LATE COMMENT: "Musicians" of today are not needing to know every singer or artist, but there are some that they should know regardless of genre or era, Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman are two of them.
Objects in the rear view mirror was written for Meat Loaf by the same person that wrote Total Eclipse of my Heart for Bonnie Tylor and both songs (music not lyrics) where featured in the musical Dance of the Vampires (original Tanz der Vampire) based on the movie with and done by Roman Polanski who also did the musical which premiered in Austria (in German) in 1992 ❤
It’s Jim Steinman, the guy that wrote the album, is playing piano. This is the abridged version because that studio version is almost 12 minutes long. I suggest listening to it. And, there’s no auto tune on Meat’s voice. Again, the entire album is incredible. Google Jim Steinman, you’ll be amazed at what songs you know that he wrote. And of course, GenZ is hopelessly clueless.
A true friend, introducing them to Meatloaf. Very nice! You gotta do “For Crying Out Loud,” and “You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth.” The video played on VH-1. @@kimgriffith1798 Maybe I miss understood him but to me, it seemed he kinda compared music back in the 80-90s as all funny and not very serious or not a piece of art. The stories can be important and many of the songs have a meaning to learn. I try to listen to music from all genres, and cultures, even contemporary music. That is what I meant by he needs to expand his musical knowledge with an open mind. Just my opinion. He is young & hopefully he will do them same as the Black Pegasus.
Youth is wasted on the youth.
Funny is a new way to view this song, i quess, Here I am older and get emotional, He just smiles at it.
This is based on Beauty and the Beast. So is Shrek. Chill dude 😎.
My Nieces and Nephews are all late Teens and Early 20s and they have all heard of Meat Loaf, he was and still is a Legend I saw him at least five times in Concert before he passed away
These young ones are so used to listening to shit music they can’t comprehend this kind of legendary music.
Kids in the video age, 20 seconds in, "I don't understand the video." LOL
The Tik Tok generation

Exactly.. this video a meme?really.. so sad they dont understand real art
This is a million times better than most of the rubbish that is put out these days. They’re really not grasping the incredible musical talent of Meat Loaf or the song writing of Jim Steinman. I feel sad for them!
Huge fan of Meat and Jim Steinman, but you have to admit there are some bizarre aspects to this video. Following him to the house is odd enough, but taking a bath after bathing in the lake, and then this orgy? Odd aspects were added here, and I agree they don't do the song justice.
@@MarkRaphaelsonWell......some of use love the "bizarre".
I'm a huge fan of modern music but this video took years off my life. This was painful.

Amen!!!! This guys on some ego trip!! I've been watching since he came on sm. He doesn't impress me except with his arrogance!!
None of these 3 punks knows ANYTHING about music, and certainly even LESS about GREAT music. This is what happens when teenagers get access to the computer with no parental supervision.
It's like knowing E=mc^2 but not knowing who Einstein was, or F=MA but never having heard of Newton.
@@glenmartin7978 Oh, I'm certain it did run on MTV, but that was no longer the primary channel for this type of video. I used to help with sound for some cover bands during the late 80s, into the early 90s, and you rarely even saw MTV in bars during that period as everyone over 25 was shifting to VH1. This was the period that killed MTV as a driver in the music industry and forced the change to reality programming.
Well wasn't he on a motorcycle in his scene in the "THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW" ?
The superficial reaction by the Gen Zers saddens me. They did not stop to consider and appreciate the talent and effort of Meatloaf. Makes me question whether they have any musical education at all. Do better, kids.
The guy can't pick out Beauty and the Beast, can't pick out undying loyalty to a loved one. He needs culture.
Yea, this was what I expected. These young people have no clue what real music or real talent is.
The video is based on Beauty and the Beast and Phantom of the Opera.
And the scene with her on the bed with the other women is straight out of the Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) movie.
@@cassianfalkener3706 All the video is based on that movie... I don't know why Wikipedia says otherwise. Maybe because they "blend" a little bit the story? And just like you said there are even straight out scenes from the movie.. 🤨
@@diakojim1977So they just took the aesthetic of that movie and applied it to "Beauty and the Beast".
I'm guessing there won't be many more rock operas in theatres if this is the reception they would get from the new generations.
The Bat out of Hell Musical was actually well received by people who are under the age of 30 which surprised me a lot
I don't disagree with that@@glenmartin7978 the ones who DO go will and are interested in rock operas will obviously like it. What I was speculating about here was how many who would be interested. I saw both an early and a late show (in London), from what I recall there were not many people under 30 there. Mostly age 40-60 I would say.
Sad as fooooooooooook I'm 37 😅 this man is a legend and the video is epic 😎
I was born in 2001 and I’m surprised they haven’t heard of meat loaf
To be fair, Meatloaf kinda fell out of popularity fairly quickly. I probably only know who Meatloaf is because my Step-Dad is a huge fan.
These two need to go back to Tick Tock. ….
Meat played Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show…hence his theatrical presentations. He was a legit Broadway actor. There is a whole Beauty and the Beast story going on here.
Also. This is bob, bob has bitch tits.
I don't know that I've ever seen anyone laugh at this video. That's certainly a first.
And disrespectful
@@johnk275 who cares if they laughed.
@@Bethany0420I do, it’s disrespectful and Meatloaf doesn’t deserve being treated like that. If you don’t care about how someone is treated, maybe you’ve got a little problem. I’ll say a prayer for you… have a nice day!

@SenorMojoLXIV facts 💯
I have no doubt that this young man is accomplished within his own right, but it will take quite a few more years before he will understand the totality and impact "classic rock", theatrics included, has had on all modern music.
WTF?
We need to be nice to them - they will be picking out our nursing homes - otherwise no use for them.
Yes Meatloaf was indeed a very very theatrical singer. He was also an actor.
His name is Robert Paulson....His name is Robert Paulson.
@@Besch42that isn’t what his football coach called him. Lol
Objects in the Rearview Mirror is another great song about reflection of the past, the affect life gives you and your memories
yep, video creativity and story was as important as the creativity of the song and music. I miss the 80's and 90's...
@@bonnielee78 and that was started by artists like Michael Jackson and Madonna who felt that their songs on a music channel should tell short stories. Before then music videos were basically bad effect videos or live performances with the studio recording played over it.
Poor kids. They are unable to absorb to pure beauty of this song. They deserve to get this song as an earworm until they appreciate it, lol. I hope the god of sex, drums and rock and roll can help them find their way.
I feel sorry for our musical future, but I have for a couple of decades now.....
It was #1 in MANY MANY COUNTRIES!
Love it. Now you gotta show andy some more meatloaf 😂. Tell him to peep 2 out of 3 aint bad for me. 😂
They also appear to have never heard The Boys Are Back in Town.
the Gen Z's probably also don't know that his name is Robert Paulson, and that he gave his life for project mayhem.
Meatloaf is the singer, but he's also theatrical rocker This video is his interpretation of beauty and the beast
Oh Gen Z, not used to hearing people actually singing, they can have T. Swift.

Nah, didn't enjoy this one guys. These little kids acting like experts, which obviously they're not. I feel insulted for Meat Loaf, who was probably more talented than both these brats put together. If you ask them on again for their 'opinions', I won't be watching that one. Total turn-off.
Same 🤦♀
Yeah they had that to cool for school hipster vibe, that is so off putting Like everything old is lame or a joke. They also seem uncultured.
Agreed meatloaf had an amazing voice. They wouldn't know great classics like this and so many others from great artists. These kids are just clueless.
This was Meatloaf's only number 1 hit. It stayed at #1 for five weeks consecutively.
The video for I Would do Anything for Love was directed by Michael Bay of Transformers' fame in 1993.
they had other no 1 hits, but outside of the US...
Well worth the time to also go through Meatloaf's complete discography, there are some absolute bangers within...😁
🙃🐨🇦🇺
Shrek? Wow, Meatloaf is not a Disney trope. Maybe Shrek was patterned after Meatloaf.
Meat Loaf was his stage name.. He was Eddie in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, both the original London musical and the movie .. Everything he did was theatrical and dramatic, including his live performances. This song was number 1 for many weeks.. It is on the album Bat out Of Hell II.. The Original album was top ten for more than 6 years. The 3 Bat out of Hell albums sold over 100 Million copies..
I blame their parents for not listening to music around the house. They should of grew up listening this.
Exactly, my son has an 80's 'nostalgia' playlist from classics he listened to in my car on long journeys or in the house, and my daughter's all time favourites are 80's songs. It's sad what kids put up with and consider music these days
Yeah it played on radio and mtv here in Australia.
Hey guys, I’m an old 80’s rock dude. I always saw this video of his song as a dark fantasy version of Beauty & the Beast. He’s the ugly dude and she’s the beautiful girl he knows he can’t get. As the video goes on you see Meatloaf in places like in the mirror with his own face, then they go back to the monster as him in makeup and costume who knows he can’t be with her…
Everything back then was real not fake like now
That’s their problem with the video.
Boomers grew up listening to music alone. I was grown and married before MTV came along. We don't automatically think of videos when we hear or discuss music. I remember Martha being one of the first veejays. Showing my age...
Meatloaf is timeless and an incredible talent, compared to the crap their generation generates they have a lot of gall to laugh and utter inane comments on a classic video.
God save them if they see rocky horror picture show. Probably divide by zero error.....
Meatloaf played Robert Paulson in the movie Fight Club. If you remember that Brad Pitt and Edward Norton movie.
He also played Eddie in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Don't forget Black Dog with Patrick Swayze and Randy Travis
Since it keeps coming up - "Meat Loaf" was a guy, born Marvin Lee Aday. That's him in the video. Let the Gen Zers see "Paradise By The Dasboard Lights".
Most people don't get this song on first listen. The video distracts even more from the lyrics. Hint: "What" won't he do?
Muppets? Fever dream? Doesn't he know beauty and the beast? Tortured hero.. Beauty that saves him. Sexual fantasies by both..
He’s a vampire and he is a stage performer and actor
based on
Beauty and The Beast...which was a popular TV show at the time.
Meat Loaf considered himself an actor who could sing, so ALL his music videos, even the sound stage ones, were hugely cinematic
Sadly I noticed a few complaints in chat (at work so I couldn't reply that fast) about you re-showing different reactions to songs. Just here to support ALL your content. As always the haters gonna simply show their level of intellect. I enjoy watching reactions and I find it that you're simply engaging others in your travel down the path less traveled. Keep it up man!
True, I understand...but these two are beyond pathetic!
I will be 70 on Tues. my NHL hockey husband would listen to this 50 years ago before he’d leave to go to the rink before a hockey game. It was played all the way up to 10 on the biggest speakers that shook our beach house. I loved it too. So great to see it thru a 20 year olds eyes for the first time. IT SAYS ALL INE NEEDS TO KNOW A OUT “THAT” Time.
RIP. SAD he’s gone . Rock opera at its best. Meatloaf is his name. ❤
One of my favorite songs and videos of all time. I was 17 and with my first love.
Check out Meatloaf singing the national anthem at the 1994 baseball All Star Game. It's one of the best renditions I've ever heard. o
The best. He nailed it without the ego of dragging out words, etc. Hey kids, just listen to the music. The video is not important.
And yes, in the 80s and 90s, the M in MTV stood for Music and they played almost exclusively music videos.
I'm a fan, a subscriber but Gen Z was so focused on the video that they missed great vocals, great harmony's, great singing. I think you missed an opportunity to teach.
Meatloaf was an absolute master with musical theatrics!❤😊
VERY LATE COMMENT: "Musicians" of today are not needing to know every singer or artist, but there are some that they should know regardless of genre or era, Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman are two of them.
This is the greatest song of all time and the video rocks!! Love meatloaf!!
Young enough to be my Grandkids. They don't yet understand the great music that was everywhere around us when we were their age.
Mtv was playing this track like every single day. It was fire in the early 90s :)
Objects in the rear view mirror was written for Meat Loaf by the same person that wrote Total Eclipse of my Heart for Bonnie Tylor and both songs (music not lyrics) where featured in the musical Dance of the Vampires (original Tanz der Vampire) based on the movie with and done by Roman Polanski who also did the musical which premiered in Austria (in German) in 1992 ❤
Jim Steinman is the composers name bzw. 😊
@@a.s.4720 And he's the piano player for these Bat Out Of Hell videos, and the narrator on the Hot Summer Night intro
Maetloaf.......Bat Out Of Hell is also a must.

There are so many great songs of the past that so many kids these days have no idea exists...

A true friend, introducing them to Meatloaf. Very nice!
You gotta do “For Crying Out Loud,” and “You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth.” The video played on VH-1.
Meatloaf was in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” and a goofy 80’s movie called “Americathon,” where he kills a Camaro like a bullfight. He’s been in other movies as well.
We were so happy in the 80’s!
The name of the band that toured with him was The Wonderland Express. Saw him in STL. There is no auto tune involved. This man put so much energy into his performances. Those kids need to go more into Meatloaf than just one song.
I made a mistake. It was the Neverland Express. My bad
Honestly I know these kids are young but it's a bit annoying listening to their dribble. Music has been dead for a while so they can do nothing but laugh because that's usually what you do when you're ignorant to things
I'm 75 and I Love this video. My children watched this. I actually loved MTV videos back in the 90's.
