Thailand Quarantine - Getting Covid-19 in Thailand (POSITIVE TEST ON ARRIVAL)

  • I tested positive for covid 19 on arrival in Thailand and had to undergo the Thailand quarantine procedure. I thought I was going to prison, but to my surprise, we ended up having the time of our life in a quarantine party hotel. This video documents that experience.
    This video starts with my mate Alex and me in our SHA+ hotel waiting to be transferred to our quarantine facility. At first, we thought we were going to a prison field hospital, but after paying around $1,700, they agreed to take us to a hotel. The transport van arrived, and we received a call from the front desk asking us to proceed to the lobby. To our surprise, there was no one to escort us, and we simply just walked to the front, where a van was waiting for us. The driver was wearing full PPE, and although I tried to make some small talk, he wasn't in a conversational mood.
    We were greeted by a very nice guy, waiting to check us in when we arrived. Upon check-in, we were informed that there was a fitness center pool access and could even mingle within the community. Alex and I dropped our bags off and headed to join the small group of people sitting at the tables. I also decided to start a group chat with everyone there, which turned out to be a huge success. By the end of our quarantine, we had 80 people in the group chat, and they continue to post group pictures to this day.
    To stay sane, Alex and I developed a daily routine. Typically we would start each day with a workout in the fitness center, then head to the pool to hang out with our friends and get a good tan, then we would go back to the room for a couple of hours before meeting up with everyone at the party tables in the reception.
    To get alcohol for these parties, we would ask the front desk to go to 7/11 for us and get alcohol. We are not sure if they are allowed to do this, but we tipped them 100baht, and they were happy.
    On the last night of quarantine, we finally got the release papers to allow us to leave the facility the next day and file claims with our insurance providers. Unfortunately, they force you to wait until the last day to get these, so you can't leave early. If you are in this same situation, make sure to triple-check all the spelling and wording because Alex'sAlex's name was spelled wrong, and they had the wrong birthday. Eventually, we could get the papers updated about a week later, but it was a massive headache.
    Overall my quarantine ended up being a lot better than expected. I will never forget our pool days playing monkey in the middle of our late-night parties in reception. If I had to get, covid I'm glad I got it with such a good community around. If you are in this same situation, ask to go to a resort and not the hospitaal (not the hospital); otherwise, you will regret it.

    Hey dude, great video! Im coming to Thailand very soon and this is handy. May I ask roughly how much does it cost to quarantine if you catch covid?

    • @KyleSpicklerTravels
      @KyleSpicklerTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes of course, I should of put that in the video. The price varies based on who you pay through, the cheapest anyone got it for was 24k baht. The most I heard anyone pay was 65k baht, and the average was 35k-55k baht. Very confusing I know, they charged Alex & I 55k baht each. Insurance should reimburse you, but it depends on the policy. I recommend getting the policy the Thai government recommends called AXA

      I did not have AXA, but some people in our group chat did. Unfortunately some people have had ease, while others are struggling to get the claim filled. You have to pay for the whole thing up front, then file through your insurance later

      Bingo, I've signed up for AXA because they're covering everything including asymptomatic and this is on the thai pass website so it can't be fake hopefully. If all goes well I'm there for 2 weeks starting March 5th .thx a ton for this great video

    What percentage of people are testing postive on arrival or on day 5 and how do you know that you actually tested positive and it isnt a scamm.

    • @KyleSpicklerTravels
      @KyleSpicklerTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t know specific numbers, but the day 5 test is self administered. I’m pretty sure ours were real since we flew on separate itineraries, so it would of taken a lot for them to force a false positive. I do know that Thailand test are extra sensitive, testing positive for any viral loads under 40.

    Hi, my boyfriend just tested positive on his day 1 test and we're in the process of sorting out hospital quarantine and most of the hospitels in Bangkok appear sold out. Is this place part of the community isolation? We've not gone with that option because we don't want to end up in that prison looking place.

    • @KyleSpicklerTravels

    Why do we assume that the virus is the cause of people’s sickness and/or death without any proper investigation, and why do we label people as having an asymptomatic disease when they are not dis-eased in any way?

    • @plasmoske
      @plasmoske 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thailand uses PCR cycles of 35. Other countries around the world only use like 25-30. That means Thailand is amplifying the tests so it even picks up dead virus, or low trace amounts of virus (could be amounts not even enough to be deemed infectious) or even false positives. It's all a big scam to try suck money out of tourists.

      Yes we both tested negative in Turkey using a “PCR”, but had cycle counts of 36 & 26 on arrival. It said any cycle counts under 40 are considered positive, unfortunately there’s no arguing with the Thai government

      There might be cheaper options, but from what I heard this was the “cheapest”. Some insurance covers it some doesn’t, unfortunately it’s really vague and you have to read your policies terms. Apparently AXA the one Thailand recommends covers it, but double check your policy before flying
