  • This video is going to show you how to live in Amsterdam on a budget. The challenge is to survive off $20 for the entire day getting breakfast, lunch, dinner, and doing at least one fun activity.
We start the morning with a quick run on the way to get some food. For breakfast, we went to HEMA, a local place that's known for being super cheap. They have an entire buffet of items ranging from €.50-€4, I ended up grabbing a Toasti for €3 and an orange juice for €1. Then I run back home to get ready for the day and gameplan our lunchtime activity.
Amsterdam is also attempting to deter budget travelers by raising prices for everyday activities and accommodation in the next few years. So if you're on a budget, I would try to limit your time in Amsterdam or live like a local and get your grocers at the Albert Hejin or Lidl. They're some local grocery stores that have reasonable prices, especially if you have access to a kitchen and can cook your meals. That's where I think we can go to grab lunch. Since the weather is fantastic, we'll bring our lunch over to Vondel and enjoy a mini picnic.
We hit a home run at the Lidl. We were able to pick up three croissants, a banana, and a drink for €2.37 that leaves us with €13.63 for the rest of the day. While enjoying our picnic at the park, we met Kelsey, a Dutch American citizen who moved back to Europe to get her master's in London. We got to know each other for a bit; then it was time for us to game plan our dinner!
We head over to the food Hallen for dinner, which we talked about in the how-to travel Amsterdam guide. If you haven't seen that video make sure to check it out below! Although everything was a little more expensive than I anticipated, we were able to find a junior pizza for €8.50 leaving us with €5.13 for the rest of the evening.
    • How to Travel Amsterda...
After dinner, it was time to wrap up for the night; we went over to the Albert Hejin to grab a bottle of wine to enjoy on my balcony. The wine cost €4.50 bringing our daily total to €19.47, staying just under our budget.

I actually quite like the idea of this video because I feel like it keeps you to eat the right amount of food rather than over eating. The fact you got wine in this video to us crazy!

I will be in town next week! I can't wait! The only travel hack that I have is that you can drink the tap water so feel free to but a $1 Euro Bottle of Water (Spa for example) you can refill a few times!

This varies greatly subject to season and luxury, could be anywhere from $30-$200/night for a basic place

Thank you for the support, I'm currently in Istanbul and am thinking of making a similar video since the money goes so far here! It just depends on if I have enough time since I have a few video ideas. I would do a no money challenge here, but don't feel as comfortable asking people with less disposable income to buy me food or give me a place to sleep

@@KyleSpicklerTravels actually, I did lose weight (nearly 2 kg - but put it back on when I got home). We did pretty well. Lived on less than $50 AUD/day for two of us. Mostly ate from Albert Hein where cheese, beer and bread are cheap. Never hungry. We stayed at the Olympic Hotel. A bit of a walk to the canal area but do-able and also close to public transport. Great ice cream at the local shop ands a super good restaurant close by (Mr. Sam - though a little expensive). 😀

Under $50 a day is really nice, I just moved to Oz where are you from? Albert Hein is the GOAT. I definitely lose weight when traveling, I think its because you end up walking everywhere

@@KyleSpicklerTravels maybe search on how to pronounce german and take it from there. Americans have the habit of not caring about pronunciation of other languages. They simply don't care. A German residing in the USA did a few TH-cam videos on exactly that subject. th-cam.com/users/FelifromGermany
