Some awesome action from the Muncie trip for sure. Great to see all of the railfans in attendance. Cool bookend power set on train two. Looks like gorgeous weather down there. 40s, drippy and windy up here in Rhinelander. Enjoyed this one much, thanks JT!

Thank you for this first video from your trip to Muncie, Indiana on 17 October 2024, Jwa Tooth! There were a lot of Norfolk Southern trains in this video. The trains had a variety of freight cars in the consists. I am looking forward to the second video from this trip tp Muncie, Indiana. (Posted 23 October 2024 at 1712 CDT.)
Your location was known as the Walnut Street Crossing in downtown Muncie where the double tracks of the New York Central (later Conrail) and Norfolk and Western railroads crossed in the early 1970's. There was a NYC depot on the northwest side of the NYC tracks at Walnut and across the street on the northeast side a NYC watchman shack. The watchman shack was manned 24 hours per day by a railroad employee who had several responsibilities, one of which was providing manual control of a series of street crossing gates east of Walnut. Those streets now appear blocked with Walnut the only grade crossing left. In addition, the crossing watchman was responsible for signal displays controlling railroad traffic crossing the double diamonds. The New York Central always had traffic priority except when the Norfolk and Western was actually crossing the diamonds. That was 50 years ago. It's all automated now.
Way to hit the diamond 💎 Muncy use to have lot more industry they still have the collage long time back richmond had a local run that followed us 35 its been turned into rails to trails thing way to injoy the fall weather 👍
Glad to See you back in Muncie. My home town. You would have loved Muncie in the 50’a and 60’s. We had so many more railroad tracks than we do now. There was never a day you did not get stopped by a train somewhere. The crossing on south walnut street just south of downtown had 10-12 tracks crossing the street. So much switching done that would block the tracks for such a long time. But as a kid I loved watching the man bring his lantern out of his shack to signal the crossing stopping traffic.
One time I saw a long bnsf coal train gallup one time let's me borrow his camera to go up close to the railroad crossing with my grandpa bnsf going back and forward but I liked it there railfanning there is so much fun I a gaillard to
There was a lot of cool stuff in this one. That was a really cool spot to video from with the diamond in a curve like that. One neat thing I noticed in the first train were three similar cars that were lined up like steps at around 2:53.
Yo Jaw Tooth I have really enjoyed your RR videos. Thank you for taking the time and travelling around to make your videos. They r very informative. I've been to Muncie. Great place to film trains there at the diamond for sure. JT, did we ever the NS Southern Railway heritage unit? I don't remember ever seeing it. Growing up in East Tennessee, Southern and the L&N Railway will always be railroads to me. Another of the best railfan videos on TH-cam. Thank you, JT.
Hi JT another awesome video from Muncie in beautiful Indiana, always has the bright blue sky Eaton looks a nice place for railfans that train was bookin! Lovely countryside. The Muncie diamonds sound great! Great filming of the trains from Muncie JT. ❤😊👍
Thanks Mark! Yes, there was a lot of railfans there. It was a lot of fun. I got enough trains for another video from there. Tomorrow I am going to Lexington, Kentucky to film for the first time in years. Thanks for the Super Thanks! That will be used for the gas and I appreciate your support! I want to show Scott where I used to live with a view of the railroad
Attorneys keep calling and sending letters to Scott and me wanting us to sue the other driver. We didn't even get hurt. The car hit us at a whopping 2mph LOL
Awesome videos JT. Me and my two grandsons, 7 and 3 year olds, love your videos. It's train education and sharing family life. I've been a railfan for over 60 years now and can't get out like I used to but you take me back and I have fun watching with you. Thank you 👍
It was a great day hanging out with you Brian looking forward to when we do it again I’d love to take you guys to Avon and Indy we got some great spots around here with tons of live action.
Morning 🌄 🌅 bud, I noticed when 1st train 🚆 arrived lots of people doing what you do, it's become quite the thing making videos 📹 of freight trains & others, great info about the river crossing, very cool 😎 👍 you manage to find some great spots, very very cool criscrossing the diamonds 💎, who would be and where would be the switches being changed?
Everything is done remotely now. I live near a CSX line and know that their control center is in Jacksonville, FL. I don't know where Norfolk Southern's control center is, but I am sure that someone does.
You can always tell those trains to have much weight when they don't run a DPU at the end of them. I noticed that they use them when the the cars are extra heavy
When you are out watching trains how are you able to provide for essentials such as food, water, and restrooms? Really liked the train crossing the diamonds.
Just now figured out that the DPU frequency can be heard on the scanner on 457.925 found this out the other day while on scan mode in unfamiliar territory
