After ridiculous amounts of hype .. terns out 1.6 is a nice update can see that tons of work has gone into the game and for the majorty of people ams2 will be fun to drive and good value for money , new cars require drivers to drive more on the pedals now rather than with the wheel having said that its still rather floaty in handling with cars seemingly not wanting to bite into the road as they do in reality and many other simulators on the market , braking issue from PC2 and older AMS2 still exists and low speed handling and handling at the limit will likely feel a bit stale and simple for more experienced sim-racers. Good - VR works amazing with ams2 always has - Easy to jump in - AI racing ok - jump in self host multiplayer you can fill with ai - runs well on low end pc looks good - best sim on steam deck - Nice ffb details and fully customizable ffb - great tracks details and car graphics - lots of cars and tracks some not in other sims - Sound much more consistent and immersive across content - good price for base package - simple to navigate UI - Accessible handling for newer drivers and gamepad ( though maybe a bit harder now in some ways / less forgiving in some ways now) Bad - Car handling / drive of the cars in optimal conditions is still very floaty - Lock to horizon turns into lock to car on sloped bits of tracks ( bad for motion sickness) - Braking behaviour still erratic at times like pc2 and older ams2 versions - Lots of older content still massively floaty in handling lacking bite ( even in optimal conditions) - car warping and stutter some random invisible net code contacts happen - cars drive as if they don't have mass that you move around / as if suspension is rock solid / are driven directly on tires not with diff or mass ( hard to put into words) - AMS2 community insists every update is game changing and totally makes the game best sim ever made you just don't understand. - AMS 2 Fanboys that claim all issues are "sound , Cam setting , FFB , Cold tires , car setup ... " rather than accepting ams2 really handles quite "special" at times.
I have one counter point to the car handling that I think would make sense but I may wind up wording it in a weird way, but tldr iRacing has the same issue in some cars as far as the floaty feeling in optimal conditions. best example I have is the caddy CTSV racecar but it's not just that one car, it's a couple of oval cars as well and the TCRs had that feel until recently. the one thing AMS2 does better thatn iRacing imo is how they handle the tires at the limit. I had no issues in finding the limit in anything I drove on AMS2, iRacing I need time in the car, I need a setup, need to watch other drivers etc etc. another thing AMS2 does well is making you feel, yes FEEL like a racecar driver. hence why the cars have a wider margin for error. if it made any sense then I did my job in explaining but if not then I am somewhat high from pot cookies for my insomnia. I hope to see you all out on the track regardless, much love
That's because most people here including gamer muscle have not driven any performance cars irl with any regularity whatsoever. He is not wrong that AC is great on throttle but it's also not the end all be all. I have yet to try 1.6 but I have had times where I get more of the feel from actual driving from ams2 than any other sim. That said like yes it was a bit much before with it's slip grip at times but it's close to the actual feeling.
That's the boat I'm in personally. I think it feels really awesome to drive. And I hated the way it drove before. Regardless, nothing saying everyone has to like it. Plenty other sims to choose from.
Had a little go yesterday. It does feel different. I liked the LMP2 a lot but the lower downforce cars I tried trew me off. I actually really liked how AMS2 felt before so Im not sure how this will pan out for me. VR performance suffered a bit, my settings that worked at night now gave me loads of reprojection. It does look a bit nicer overall though, more natural. And it definitely sounds better, especially the replays sound great now. I only did a couple of AI races but they do seem to handle multiclass better although I have seen them fumble and cause a huge traffic jam on Spa. I also tried to join an online rac but there were some connection issues. Multilayer isn't realy my thing but the LFM thing could be interesting. I’m cautiously optimistic but it really is too early for me to call it.
@@boijorzee I just did a race in the classic chevy stock car. i was powersliding that thing all over laguna seca. It was a blast. Overall, I'm impressed with how far it came since i bought it years ago. After 11 years on iRacing, I hope the new tire model they're working on gives the same feeling or similar to AMS2.
Can only disagree on the car feel aspect. I use a T300 RS GT with custom FFB and I swear AMS2 is the only sim where I feel exactly how the car behaves, when I'm about to slide, when the brakes are going to lock up, all of the bumps. Now with 1.6 It all feels even better. I had zero hype when it came to the physics changes and am only pleasantly surprised .
AMS2 always had great FFB with lots of detail and lots of options. Unfortunately FFB can't change underlying physics though it can make game war more fun immersive and easier to drive. I'm constantly talking about how the way you can change ffb in AMS2 is great. I was actually talking to developers at kunos about how they should offer a similar system for Evo.
AMS2 is easily the best out-of-the-box sim with a massive range of cars and tracks, especially historic cars that make you feel like you’re racing in motorsport’s golden era. I like AC, but let’s be real, the amount of tweaking, modding, and borderline witchcraft it takes to make it look anything like AMS2 is just overwhelming. Also, the VR optimization in AMS2 is so good it’s like they sacrificed a few GPUs to the gods to get it that smooth. If they add a career mode like Racing Life (seriously, just bring that dev onboard already), it’ll be next-level awesome.
@@trimw Maybe, but I think the gap is getting closer with every update. AMS2 has a lot of areas where it outshines AC, but it really just depends on what you’re looking for. Both have their strengths, and each definitely has its place in the sim world.
@@xXx.....0007 Yeah, it really depends on what you’re looking for. For me, AMS2 nails it with the VR visuals, the sound modeling, and the variety of cars, tracks, and even different eras. Throw in some of the skin mods with authentic retro liveries, and it’s a blast. That being said, I also enjoy ACC, AC, and Raceroom (iRacing isn’t my thing), but AMS2 ticks a lot of boxes for what I want in a sim without too much hassle. Hopefully, the 1.6 update gives you more of what you’re after!
I’ve never ever enjoyed AMS2 in the four and a half years I’ve owned it and still only have double figures of hours played. Last night was like buying a brand new game, I really enjoy it now and will be putting a ton of hours into it! I don’t care what anyone says, but prior to 1.6 this game was weird and I felt like I was playing something closer to a rally game or Mario kart rather than a circuit racing game. RF2 and Raceroom remain my two favourites, but AMS2 will definitely now be in my rotation.
I guess should give it a try again cos i would say what you wrote OP is exacly how i felt about it but if i ever mentioned it then it was either git gud or your just shit at racing games and AMS2 was perfect lol
@ honestly it has RF2 vibes. Don’t get me wrong RF2 is still better, but the gap has been narrowed massively and if you enjoy RF2 you will enjoy AMS2. I was up passed midnight playing the IMSA content and I’m hooked! The sound is great, the tracks look great even the AI is fun! For the GTD cars you now have to turn TC on otherwise you will spin which is awesome! Previously you could easily get away with low wing no tc, powerslide round corners and super fast lap times were yours, now it’s impossible to do that and that made me very happy.
Oh yeah I always said since 1.5 something that this was a step in the right direction and I always knew they would get the game to at least state 1.6 eventually
Kinda disagree on the slowly getting of of shape comment. I find most Sims get out of shape much quicker than real life, ie I can feel.qnd catch slides as they are happening in a real car, not so much in Sims. So this being a little slower in ams2 actually makes it more realistic in many cases imo
Gamer doesn't drive in real life, he's done a couple track days and thing he's got it figured out lol it's like a legless person reviewing shoes, they don't know how it's supposed to feel
It is now finally playable! This 1.6 update is a real game-changer. You can even see in the replays that the cars look natural because of the physics changes.
You sure on that? Been spending many hours on RaceRoom recently as I'm really enjoying it and the many different tracks it offers - but racing the AI is a dreadfully painful experience as the stupid AI will ram you from behind every chance they get. I get better behaviour from the AI in Wreckfest. RR has the worst AI I have seen on any game, including consoles.
@@mxracinguy5993 I think AI in Raceroom is much better now, I used to think like you, that it was ramming you constantly, but lately is been a really good experience.
Couldn't disagree more with you. I'm no ams2 fanboy and have in fact up until a few months ago been playing AC and RF2 exclusively for the past year because of the lack of road connection feel in AMS2. I've now spent months in the beta and it's just hands down the best driving experience in sim racing for me. From the moment i started playing 1.6 i noticed a huge improvement in the way the tyres bite into the track/ hysteresis... and the feel for the limit of grip. Maybe you need to recalibrate your wheels and pedal, maybe you need to try a few different car classes or maybe your just never wrong but i think you're going to be on an island with some of your opinions. Also learn to drive stick, that adds a huge layer of immersion that you're missing out on. Formula retro 1, Vintage 2, Inter, Trainer, Procar, Brabham Hypercar, even some of the gt3's which i never liked are all amazing. I know ffb can physics can be a very subjective thing and take time to adjust to but i doubt you are really approaching 1.6 with an open mind. Haters gunna hate
Are you implying that booting up the game, only to make an immediate judgement about it feeling bad isn't adequate time to understand the update? GamerMuscle won't like that.
I'm an rf2 fan boy and really want to like AMS2 and iRacing, but even with recent updates, I still think rf2 is the most rewarding (but obviously lacks online). Specifically, things like the way the steering loads up under braking in rf2 can't be beat.
1 - Not like we did a 7+ Hour live stream driving multiple cars and tracks 2- yes if you have 10k+ hours of simracing experience across just about every SIM ever made you can in fact jump into a car and noticed the very obvous aspects of the fundamental tire model and handling very quickly.... Funnily enough you can put on different skies, roller blades use different hockey sticks or tebis rackets and notice the very obvious non subtle differences very quickly... Or even if you just jump from one go kart to another it's very obvious even quite subtle differences literally within a few corners.. Or if you play x,plane or ms FS , DCS you can tell the differences and point them out very quickly. You don't have to be some physics sports F1 driver savant to do this.
@rod2308 "Couldn't disagree more" - so you think: graphics, optimization, content, VR, weather are crap in this game? Also that the handling got worse in the latest update?
I think there's a HUGE effort on part of Reiza and most of it has been a great step ahead. Still the component to continue pushing is the tyre and physics. I vastly prefer LMU which doesn't have a perfect physics but is so much more clean and precise. I hope though, AMS2 on LFM, stabilise with lots of players, since until iRacing fixes their tyres, this is the only other sim with lots of cars, tracks and series to play, that has a good graphic engine good AI etc etc..
The trees look really good 😅 Does it have dynamic weather with rain? That's what's lacking in AC1 since most players don't have the preview version of csp. Fantastic decision to bring AMS2 on LFM.. love it 🎉
Yes it has Dynamic Weather with rain. Including a rubbered in dry line, which is very slippy in the wet, meaning driving off the racing line when it is rubbered in and wet, gives more grip.
Sorry GM but I stopped watching at the second mention of 'Fanboy' at just over a minute in. C'mon GM just say what you have to say without stoking the BS. What you had to say might well be valid but you don't have to validate it with that kind of social media bollox.
Put your FFB on Default + and move the Low Force Boost, FX and Dampening to 0. Feels great on MOZA R5 Car feels weighty and planted like that Edit: I use 55% Gain ingame
I agree that AC still does something better than AMS2, but vice versa as well. Rain physics feel quite convincing now and if you push the tyres too much, the car becomes unpredictable like your spin in the last corner of a race. AC feels too predictable and I'm never scared that the tail comes around. Some cars could be more pointy as you say, but like with road-cars, this depends on the car and there IMO should be more variety in the handling models in AMS2. Part of the problem could be, that just one guy is doing the setups and all feel a bit too similar, also from the FFB which amplifies the problem, because it seems physics-based, not car-based.
The ui is a little difficult to navigate with the buttons and directional pad on my g27. It was cumbersome before only because there were certain buttons I couldn't navigate through unless I used the mouse. Now, it's a little confusing to do some very simple things like go through the car or track list. Going from the category on the left to the one on the right and getting into their car lists is confusing when I try to back out and go back to the category on the left. I'll have to play with it some more. One thing that has not changed is that I still can't confirm the choice of livery on my car without using the mouse to select the confirm button. The cars do feel more responsive, and I like that.
I spent nearly two years fiddling about with AC, trying to get it to run nicely on a Reverb G2. Endless upgrades, downloads, tweaking, tweaking, tweaking. I went to AMS2 for the better VR, acceptable graphics and FFB. I've never driven an actual race car, so the nuances of grip are lost on me and I have no concept of how a 'real' car should handle in racing conditions. I'm looking forward to downloading 1.6 and experiencing the improvements you highlighted earlier in the video, and won't be too fussed about the negatives.
I eventually uninstalled AC after the last mod I installed broke the game. In VR I could never get it to look as good as AMS2 and although I loved the way the cars felt in AC I was having more fun in AMS2 without the pain.
@@Robert_90dayfianceUK maybe some people are not bothered or sensitive to this like I am. This sound indicates that tyres are reaching grip limits, probably helps a lot to gamepad players as they don't have FFB. For me though it was extremely annoying as it gives false sensation that cars are sliding even though they actually don't.
Fanboy of iracing, gives review of another game slagging other people off as fanboys, I don't even play AMS2 but this review is some bias bs, just because you pay a subscription and have wasted a shit ton of money on iracing doesn't vindicate you been so bias just to feel better about all that money you wasted for you to be an average racer, no doubt lapped by people with a g29.
What you have said is kinda what I see when you turn left / right as if warming tyres up at slow / pit speeds - the suspension moves on a pivot then just stops like it hits wooden blocks, rock the cars at low speeds and see! Great vid cheers GM
I think 1.6 and the new content is overall pretty good. No one ever mentions this but their replay functionality literally sucks. AC or ACC is really the gold standard. Reza doesn't seem to be interested in changing this. 2 minutes of replay unless you finish an entire race is just stupid. Practice or hot lapping you only get the last two minutes. Also, you can't manipulate the timeline slider. You only get fast forward or reverse button. As a replay junkie I've always hated that.
Replays are awful, just as they were in PC1/2. VR replays are even worse - just sit at start/finish lane waiting for cars to come around. Same old boring cams for everything. I don't like AMS2 (because Madness engine imo).
Some good points in the review GM, always enjoy your videos! As a long time AC player i find there many reasons to get into AMS2 even if you are heavily invested in the AC ecosystem, namely livetrack, variable weather, ready made championships, a fun and engaging (easier) driving model, decent AI and of course the ease of getting into things as opposed to using content manager. It is a wonderful single player experience imo, as AC is of course but does offer a really nice other option to get your sim racing kicks. AC is and probably always will be the best dry track driving experience, its so sharp and correct, but i think AMS2 offers so much more if you can dial back your raw driving experience need a bit. PS would be great to see a GM video marathon where you review each of the cars in this new update for AMS2! 3 laps in each car, rating out of 10 awarded! would love to see a top down list of the best cars in AMS2 by GM :) Best of luck with further videos.
I think I kind of agree with you and kind of don't. Definitely especially on throttle this sim lacks clear snaps and enters a state of "half-grip" that I'm very sure doesn't actually exist. But I think that is a rather minor flaw, as all sims have some of those. AC lacks throttle response and has too much low speed understeer, ACC has very weak and dull brakes and has even worse throttle behaviour than AC with seemingly no power at low speeds, LMU has no brake FFB and lacks feeling in low speed, R3E is too punishing on corner exit etc etc ...
Improvement for sure. I actually liked the GT3 cars the least, that’s where the physics anomalies felt the most pronounced. But I loved the classic Audi, felt very planted and predictable and lots of fun to drive. It doesn’t feel completely transformed but just dialed in and is the best it’s felt so far.
AMS2 has been my go to sim since I’ve gotten into vr. I am a huge acc fan, but it sucks in vr and ac seemed like a lot of work to get it right. With AMS2 I can start the game, put on my vr headset and race. Looks beautiful, handles good on my dd wheel, and it just works. I hope ac evo is this vr friendly.
Thanks for the detailed review. Really great observations. Been play in AC since the very beginning. I like AC, but it shows its age -- even when modded. AMS2 is just a fun game you can hop into that has consistent graphical quality in a complete package. I know the physics is not the best, but the overall package now is just really good. I know some people will watch this review and be turned off and jump to the conclusion that it still sucks. I mean, you can have the prettiest girl in your whole city and you can criticize her for being 2 inches too short, not perfectly blonde, having a small mole on her face, or even her body smells a bit weird. It's not perfect, but it's good. This game belongs in a sim racers catalog. The vast majority of us would play AMS2 and not even notice the criticisms you laid out. But yet, here we have people who jump to conclusions that they likely would never reach unless they watched your detailed commentary.
The FFB is way better then in AC, at least on my T818 it is. And The AI is better. And the physics are better for the most part. I love AC but it IS a decade old at this point. It has great physics but they are not perfect, neither is AMS2. But AMS2 does things that AC doesn't. I kinda agree with that AMS2 does need better brakes modelling but when it comes to how dynamic the track feels or how tyre degradation influences the handling, AMS beats AC. Saying that AMS2 is somehow better for people with lower end gear is pretty weird as well. From my experience I can say that it supports my higher end gear very well and that the FFB is among the best in the business. So what do you mean? Again I freaking LOVE AC but AMS2 just does feel like a more modern sim now. If you don't click with it then fine, but please stop the "AMS2 is for NOOBS" shtick. It's the kind of tribal nonsense that is way too prevalent in sim racing.
In a general sense the less snappy and responsive the physics the easier it is for a wheel to convey ffb and the less responsive a wheel needs to be to stay in line with the simulator. This is also why road tires , vintage cars also have more obviously ffb range to them or rally cars as the mushy suspension and slow grip fall off give more time for ffb to vary from week to strong and also easier for a driver to drive within the limit or within a given range. Also a SIM that's overly sluggish to respond and not as snappy won't require as lose and free moving wheel or as direct and precise wheel in order to still catch and drive cars. Another example you need a super precise controller to fly a RC helicopter to a basic level , but a lumbering slow boat does not. Even within a single SIM a sloppy road car is going to be way more accommodating of crappy pedals and wheels than a super tight and responsive formula car. The more snappy the physics also the more opportunity there is for driver induced or pilot induced over driving , this is why for example most arcade games have gone down the road of overly simple sloppy physics for game cars , planes , helicopters the depth is removed to make it generally more simple less complex and more accommodating of lower input precision.
@@GamerMuscleVideos I never found AMS to be "sluggish". Maybe I'm just slow but to me it always felt responsive enough. I fully understand why people didn't like the way it used to feel though. It was very gratuitous when it came to slip angles. To me that was like a breath of fresh air in the sea of hard plastic tire models though. With 1.63 I actually think they swung a bit too far in the opposite direction. But I get that I'm a weirdo in that way.
I've been giving the Quattro a go around Bathurst and having a blast. I don't think it's the slideyness of the cars that the issue so much as that it doesn't communicate it as well through the wheel as AC does. It still drives totally predictably, though, and it's fun to throw around.
you will notice that AC brakes traction and regains it much faster so the slides are less drawn out and the driver can make more corrections or smaller corrections as they drive , AMS2 the corrections are lower frequency and more drawn out and the yaw and rotation of the car is more drawn out and slower response to brake and gas is also slower and more drawn out. Bassically AC for more tighter precision and just offers more responsive driving , its more direct , AMS1 is also like this and other sims in general are also more like this maybe not as much as AC or AMS1 but no where near as sloppy as AMS2 , AMS2 has gotten better progressively but its still way closer to PC2 than it is AMS1 RBR AC ACC LMU
Not wanting to criticize any of these SIMS as they all have something to offer, but since playing AMS2 for the last few months in the beta, I've almost given up AC and just use it for the RSS and VRC formula1 mods which are spot on.
Been with iRacing since the beta days and, imo, AMS2 is now in the lead when it comes to tire model and physics. I dont care how a developer develops the tire model and physics as long as it feels right. AMS2 now feels more right than the rest. Just my opinion
@@MichaelBarnett-o2o iracing I think is better under the limit , but on and over limit iracing is so messed up just about all Sims beat it. I think iracing does downforce better than AMS2 as well. AMS2 basic driving is still rather wonky compared to AMS1 , AC and other Sims.
I’m AC and ACC Ps5 person with 3000 hours combined in bag. Since recently bought PC and VR I got AMS2. Good simulator with fun dynamic racing where you can be less careful than in AC or ACC because of contact physics. It looks great and overall package is very good. 1.6 version surprised me with braking/sliding out issue. Yesterday driving GT4 Ginetta it happened few times, for strange reason till I got more careful. Something you have to be aware of. I still like Assetto Corsa more because of Force feedback and weight of car. I loved AMS2 Le Mans track in autumn in VR, simply beautiful. Praise 👍 to developers Reza.
LFM (and the MP disconnect fixes) and the new UI could be game changers. Not being able to remove the wheel even on the new lambo evo2 and not being able to scrub/jump around in the replay are not!
Yep such a hater of ams2 that we have given it free advertising years ago , have made a ton of videos , covered it when no one else covered it and have even promoted it for specific licence deals with businesses... But I get it , a few critical points about how a game handles and that means you outright hate something and are a hater ! Its great how simple the world works when you reduce things into simplistic binary views on things !
Interesting that some people see handling completely different, honestly since the game release actually. After spending some time with the new content I fully agree with your point of view. In fact, while you were talking about physics you could literally see the issue with handling on the video. You could argue that this is just preference in how the car behaves but I'm gonna go further and say it's not. AMS 2 physics are fun to drive, but they do not behave as predictable as a standard simracing title. You can read the slidey behavior through FFB very well, which is probably the biggest positive about this driving model, but it's still off putting a lot of the time, especially when you want to push cars to their limits. Nothing wrong about liking it, I'm having lots of fun with it too, but this is still a long way from titles like AC1, AMS1 or rFactor 2. The lack of consistency in handling is very noticeable and probably won't ever change because it's in the very core of this game. All of this is fine, it's a really good game that finally feels polished after this patch. Multiplayer racing feels really good (when it works on LFM but that's still in beta) and this is definitely the best VR simracing title you could ever get. But yeah, people thinking the handling is fundamentally changed are in denial, you can hate me now hahah
That's what I thought too, the cold tyre behavior is a lot better but overall the driving feels the same and unfortunately it just doesn't match real life when you compare onboards. It does make for fun hotlapping though. All that said I wouldn't hesitate to point a newcomer to simracing straight to AMS2 at this point.
I disagree with you. While I could really feel that slidiness in the previous iteration of the game, by now it's completely gone as I feel. There is a really good road feel and the cars are very well connected to the road.
Hey man, fair review, presented with a nice dose of humor. IMO this was a good assesment of current state of AMS2 and the critique was reasonable. Also, you don't have to be so apologetic about your opinions - they are your opinions and you are fully entitled to them. Somebody is butthurt about it? - their problem ;)
I agree cars are much more neutrally balanced and will eather go into a crab walk , under steer or spin out without corection as aposed to rotating in the centre in a weard way
The biggest thing ams2 has over ac if u like online racing and don't like the track and and car combos ac then yes get ams2 if u love creating ur own multi-player races but don't want to open ports and all that effort.
I'm going to try this later, I really hope it feels better, really want to like it. Last time I played it was a month ago and just felt deflated with the physics not rewarding at all to play. Looks incredible and runs smooth but those floaty can't feel the rear wheels feeling kills it for me. Surely they can get the cars feeling better and more realistic. The original Automobilista handled great very much like factor 2, get that feeling back and you wouldn't get me off it
I actually find the cars feel more natural than in AC and ACC. ACC is my go to sim because I enjoy the racing but I've always found that AMS2 feels great
@@GamerMuscleVideos thats great! it explains why you mentioned your irating in the title. I was confused before but now Im not anymore. thank you.cheers
i was suprised how forgiving and easy driving (and less communicative) ams2 was when i came back from 6 months of acc. from the simulation standpoint i had a better memory of it. but it just depends on what you want from your sim. great video, i pretty much share your observations of the game. 👍
I think you nailed it. The improvement is substantial, but at the same time I feel like you are still driving AMS2. Compared the two versions and then jumped into ACC and man the difference is huge. I guess I'll drive what is active on LFM, but for me the ACC is still clear king of the GT3. On LMDh side I also still prefer LMU, but we'll see how that turns out in the long term.
Thanks for the honest review. I do have AC setup and I love it. But the beauty of VR in AMS2 knocks my socks off. LOL! Maybe EVO will be the great equalizer.
Think you got that wrong: lack of criticism, or unwillingness to point out things that need improvement lead to complacency and is a disservice to a product. Clearly you know sim racing and is in a position to judge and can pick up on little nuances that you believe could be better. What isn't helpful is those that haven't played a game, heard some loud-mouth on youtube blasting it and is quick to parrot the same. The good thing about Reiza is that they are constantly trying hard to improve, as shown by many of their major updates. Think a lot of it was driven by user feedback and the dislike for the way the car handled (myself included) which prompted them to do better. Say nothing due to fear of 'dislikes' and nothing will change. Folks like you that apparently have played every racing title absolutely should be pointing out things that could be improved and hopefully will be heard. Unlike the parrots out there that rightly should be tuned out.
Your video explains it perfectly. I was so hyped for this update. The sliding feeling always put me off. I started AMS2 after the update and jumped into an LMP car. I thought it felt great. The car felt planted and drove great with my Invicta wheelbase. I tested the GT3 cars soon after and realized quickly that the sliding around corners is still evident. Constant sliding away from an apex and no real tire bite while going around turns. That said, the driving feels improved and it’s still fun. Graphically, this game is beautiful. I wish they could get the GT3’s & slower car FFB improved. The no grip throws me off. I think the people that feel the game feels “great” are using less powerful wheel bases. The sluggish road feel probably gives them FFB detail (tire scrub and sliding feel) that they don’t get in other games.
This. I only gave the update a quick go with the new Lambo GT3 and I immediately noticed the constant sliding out of corner, even after a couple of laps to warm up the tires. It is fun, but it just feels like something isn't behaving like it should.
I’ve really tried to like AMS2 but there’s something about the feel that doesn’t work for me. Maybe not weighty enough, I’m not sure. Still love AMS1 and I respect Reiza greatly but I think the engine choice for AMS2 may have been a mistake.
I remember thinking "this is a big mistake" since the moment they announced they would be using that engine! It seems ever since, they put in sooo much effort in basically removing the physics part of that engine and replacing it with their own. For me, they are now close enough to rolling a proper simulation that I think they have succeeded, and I didn't expect them to manage that, so big ups to them, but still, what a weird choice it was! Have you already tried this patch, maybe it fixes your problems with the feel?
Yes but only for 20 minutes and it didn’t feel much better. The best way I can describe it is the cars feel as though they weigh 100lb with physics that force better behavior. At first I thought it was the camera - I’ve tried legacy to lock to car aswell as the new settings with more movement. Neither seemed to fool my brain into believing it was a car. I’m going to have another try today
The problem is AC visually can be all over the place even with great mods. Also I think track quality and then car cockpit is also a huge aspect of the graphics AMS2 is super consistent and all looks amazing + light transitions time of day weather transitions all fantastic. If you play the top quality AC track and car mods with pure and shader patch at right time of day it looks less gamey / more photoreal than AMS2 But on average AC will look worse than AMS2. End of the day both Sims look great and well above required graphics level for immersion. Personally I dont care so much about graphics I'm more into things just being clear , that's why I quit like how iracing looks even through it's very obvously looks very dated a lot of the time lol.
I just downloaded the game again. Tried the Audi GT3 Evo II on Daytona. While the physics are better than before and less slidy, all I could think of while driving, once again, was: "how good is the RSS version of this car on Assetto Corsa compared to this, I miss it". Not for me.
I actually hate it when I have to agree with 99.5% of the points you bring up - as it makes you sound highly intelligent...... And what an odd thing to say about the GamerMuscle Channel. ;P
It’s a great update, especially the visuals in VR. Drove the Porsche hypercar and the interior seems to have been improved, unless I never noticed it before. The new reflections on the windshield look great and adds to VR immersion. Everything looks polished. AC, for me, still has the best and most accurate handling but I personally got bored with AC months ago with the poor AI and the countless mods you need to set up any kind of historic race.
I play all the games, each one has their good things. However I want to highlight something about AC myths . When I play AC I do what I want with the cars, like I am the best driver in the world, and I truly believe I am not that good driver, and seeing my performance in any other sim I'm sure about it. So, that tells me AC is not as realistic or as good as people says. And actually, unless a race has some drivers that make it fun, AC feels boring as no challenge from the car. Anyway, enjoy all sims and hope we have more to come. PS: not a fanboy, and if any favourite I would say is LMU.
I've tired the new update and as much as I want to like it I can't, the quickest way round the track is still to drive in a way that isn't possible in other sims. The gains from driving this way are seconds per lap and sustainable. Unfortunately for Reiza their own back catalogue is their biggest enemy. AMS1 still drives considerably better and despite it's lack of features and content it's a much better driving and racing experience. The team at Reiza have taken this title very very far and the improvements are considerable. The game engine has always been the problem for me.
Another fresh ams2 update for the internet to rant about haha. Guess I will add my 2 cents as well. As far as the tire model updates and hysteresis stuff, its a nice improvement. Im still using the same slip angle as pre 1.6 at the apex but now if I go over that Im quickly punished. Still using the technique of aggressive trail braking to get lots of rotation on entry though. All and all I'm impressed with Reiza and their dedication. This probably wont be my main sim though. Also curious to see techniques that top drivers use now that the sim is on LFM.
I own AMS2. I'm happy to pick up their DLC when it's on sale. But the physics feel strange to me. I put it down to Madness Engine stuff. So I'd love Reiza to build their next sim on another engine.
He's only wrong if you disagree with him. Just look at his camera settings, it's like a cruise ship when he's going down the straights and then like a kangaroo on whiz when he hits bumps. Change camera settings to opposite of GM settings. Benefit.
OMG your spinning out comments describe what I call the Forza physics f**k factor, it's my go to phrase for anytime the physics feel like it's just been replaced with a shrug from the developers, it's like the wheels are coated in grease and the car is imparted with a disproportionate amount of rotational force causing you to do almost 360 spins at less than 30 mph. No correction allowed, you are now witnessing a predetermined animation cycle. That said I'm also shite and realise there justifiable reasons for this.
It’s great and I love it, but as a controller player it’s definitely a bit more difficult than on a wheel but that’s the only issue I have, aside from that it’s amazing
AMS2 and ACC are some of the most beginner friendly to get. You can jump in easily. AMS2 is great because it has heaps of cars/tracks and better AI than a lot of (if not all) other games (haven't played them all). Devs say future updates will continue to improve AI, bring career mode, and more.
I'm not a fan boy but ams2 is my sim choice, I play in VR only so that might be the reason. I came here before I fire it up for a critical look at the update. GM never disappoints in that department. I looked forward to career mode but I guess I gotta wait longer..
16:38 I think you will get more hate from saying that TRUTH about content manager + CSP + Pure than talking about AMS2 😂 Once I was almost banned on a discussion by just saying that AC1 with FH5 graphics levels and great cars/tracks (whats the point of a great moddel with shitty physics right?) cars wasn't pug and play. It's a long filtering process. *I'm actually an AC1 fanboy
I do like AC, but I also think that it is overrated, for me ac physics is missing something, that I cant really explain, it's somehow simplified. AC has become sort of industury standart or benchmark and people are so used to it, that it is hard to change the views of handling. Kind of like in iracing, but not to the same degree. I think ams2 just got better and the way cars handle is authentic especially how they lose grip, but feeling the grip migth not be as sharp as I would like it to be. It's now in a point that some ffb adjustment migth solve it. For undestanding my comments, the best sim car physics- and ffbwise for me is RF2 Porsche cup car, neither AC or AMS2 is on par with it. I mention only one car fron rf2 because those cars vary so much
I like this game and I like the studio. Good guys and they keep at it. I rarely play though, mostly because of the handling. Installing 1.6 now. Also, I take a sec to say that I like your content and your style mate. Always enjoyable to watch.
yeah, after the hype is gone, we see the reality ... we have the same feelings with the break / slip / grip . AMS2 will be a fun racer with some buddies against the AI .... which is really great ! For competitive multiplayer AMS2 will play no role
Good
- VR works amazing with ams2 always has
- Easy to jump in
- AI racing ok
- jump in self host multiplayer you can fill with ai
- runs well on low end pc looks good
- best sim on steam deck
- Nice ffb details and fully customizable ffb
- great tracks details and car graphics
- lots of cars and tracks some not in other sims
- Sound much more consistent and immersive across content
- good price for base package
- simple to navigate UI
- Accessible handling for newer drivers and gamepad ( though maybe a bit harder now in some ways / less forgiving in some ways now)
Bad
- Car handling / drive of the cars in optimal conditions is still very floaty
- Lock to horizon turns into lock to car on sloped bits of tracks ( bad for motion sickness)
- Braking behaviour still erratic at times like pc2 and older ams2 versions
- Lots of older content still massively floaty in handling lacking bite ( even in optimal conditions)
- car warping and stutter some random invisible net code contacts happen
- cars drive as if they don't have mass that you move around / as if suspension is rock solid / are driven directly on tires not with diff or mass ( hard to put into words)
- AMS2 community insists every update is game changing and totally makes the game best sim ever made you just don't understand.
Think this is the first time I have agreed with everything GM has said. Time to go re-evaluate my life choices
@@GamerMuscleVideos How this update compare with AMS 1?
@@GamerMuscleVideos ooooh the ams2 fan boys.... Dude, what a ridiculous take.
trash is was it was
I’m in the minority but I get none of the issues with the handling like a lot of people have. The cars feel more natural to me than in iracing.
@@geffgorg9600 I like boats too but I don't think they're comparable to cars with respect to handling just imo
Do you maybe have a link to the custom FFB you're using?
@@rickyspanish4792Was gonna ask the same, finishing setting up a T300 for my nephew this weekend
And there is NOTHING you can do about AMS2 to make it even come close to how good AC actually simulates a car.
@@trimw I disagree.
I see comments like yours, go install, end up uninstalling. I will give this 1.6 update a go again tomorrow but it's looking like another uninstall.
@@jamesleegte I mainly use rf2, how is AMS2 physics compared to this?
I love Rf2 and LMU so I hope what you are saying is right. With LFM support and some magic content it could be a great source for fun online racing
That's a really good point. It's almost like in a sim sometimes you need to "deviate" from reality to make it align with real life better haha.
@charliebeckey6269 exactly, you need to drive to suit the SIM, rather than drive how you would in the real world. Just my personal opinion of course.
Gamer doesn't drive in real life, he's done a couple track days and thing he's got it figured out lol it's like a legless person reviewing shoes, they don't know how it's supposed to feel
Loving the update
Credit to the Dev team
Great job
It is now finally playable! This 1.6 update is a real game-changer. You can even see in the replays that the cars look natural because of the physics changes.
This and Raceroom are the only options for single-player only sim drivers like me. Definitely not AC...
1 - Not like we did a 7+ Hour live stream driving multiple cars and tracks
2- yes if you have 10k+ hours of simracing experience across just about every SIM ever made you can in fact jump into a car and noticed the very obvous aspects of the fundamental tire model and handling very quickly....
@@GamerMuscleVideos Ooh touchy mate, haha. So predictable.
@rod2308 "Couldn't disagree more" - so you think: graphics, optimization, content, VR, weather are crap in this game? Also that the handling got worse in the latest update?
You are correct.
There is nothing more positive than a freshly brewed bag of Yorkshire tea.
My forehead is bruised from slapping it with a fish 🐟
@@V-Racing lol
ditto.
What type of fish ?
Personally I'm liking the way the cars now drive.
No one else hates the car selection menus? I’d love just a big layout of all the cars instead of searching by groups
The trees look really good 😅
Does it have dynamic weather with rain? That's what's lacking in AC1 since most players don't have the preview version of csp.
Fantastic decision to bring AMS2 on LFM.. love it 🎉
Yes it has Dynamic Weather with rain. Including a rubbered in dry line, which is very slippy in the wet, meaning driving off the racing line when it is rubbered in and wet, gives more grip.
Sorry GM but I stopped watching at the second mention of 'Fanboy' at just over a minute in. C'mon GM just say what you have to say without stoking the BS. What you had to say might well be valid but you don't have to validate it with that kind of social media bollox.
he is totally right, the fanboys should be put under the water
@ Don’t really care pal. That’s my point !
Aren't you an aviation expert now?
Helicopter God 🚁💪
Put your FFB on Default + and move the Low Force Boost, FX and Dampening to 0. Feels great on MOZA R5
Car feels weighty and planted like that
Edit: I use 55% Gain ingame
You got me. I was looking at the time exactly as you mentioned it. :D
Turn the damn TYRE VOLUME to 25-30, it fixes ALL the problems.
Got to wonder why it's not set to that at default then 🤔
@@Robert_90dayfianceUK maybe some people are not bothered or sensitive to this like I am. This sound indicates that tyres are reaching grip limits, probably helps a lot to gamepad players as they don't have FFB.
For me though it was extremely annoying as it gives false sensation that cars are sliding even though they actually don't.
@@viktorianas makes sense tbf mate 👍 but also kinda goes against Ur original comment if it's such a personal thing lol
I turn it off completely lol
Fanboy of iracing, gives review of another game slagging other people off as fanboys, I don't even play AMS2 but this review is some bias bs, just because you pay a subscription and have wasted a shit ton of money on iracing doesn't vindicate you been so bias just to feel better about all that money you wasted for you to be an average racer, no doubt lapped by people with a g29.
Yes I'm well known as a big iRacing fanboy...
What you have said is kinda what I see when you turn left / right as if warming tyres up at slow / pit speeds - the suspension moves on a pivot then just stops like it hits wooden blocks, rock the cars at low speeds and see! Great vid cheers GM
Listened to various friends struggle for multiple hours to get the basic setup done to even try the driving.
For some reason this has been a madness engin issue since NFS shift not sure why it struggles with bindings so much.
I liked the title "5k iRacer Reviews The New Version "
@@Sele81 I think the 5K irating thing is hilarious 🤣
@@GamerMuscleVideos I was not sure if serious or just making fun of the other reviewers 😂
*starts stewing five bag cup of tea for a week*
What's even crazier, I'm in the beta group and the cars drove different prior to the release update. I have reported it in the forums
You can improve the quality alot with Nvidia Experience and the sharpening effect. There are tutorials on youtube
Thanks for the video James, it has helped with my insomnia.
My forehead is bruised... Great video, nearly picked this up for the steam deck. Might do for the frame rates
As a Lancastrian man, I’m disgusted at the, over promotion and benefits of, Yorkshire Tea! 😂
From a crappy PC2 update. With this 1.6 update it became a proper racing sim that cars have weight and FFB now makes u feel the road.
We're you eating cake at the 4m mark ????
A quick scout through the comments seems to show a majority people disagree with your opinion on 1.6. We get it, you don't like AMS2 LOL
I'd say the pivoting feeling is gone. I can still feel it on cars that were released previously. GT3s are still quite interesting to drive around.
The original Automobilista handled great very much like factor 2, get that feeling back and you wouldn't get me off it
it's still the best out-of-the-box all-in-one sim out there imo. Jack of all trades, maste of none? Maybe.
Yah , just needs an actual single player and then to release on console be a good solid game of which we are really lacking at the moment.
@@GamerMuscleVideos Notice how all the comments are saying "out-of-the-box" lol the new GAME CHANGING
@@trimw THE BOX IS OVERFLOWING!
Hey GM my forehead is bruised by slapping it with a fish!
I actually find the cars feel more natural than in AC and ACC. ACC is my go to sim because I enjoy the racing but I've always found that AMS2 feels great
iRacing fan boy: "blehh I dont like it, there is no cars falling from the sky"
10k people on Steam: "Overwhelmingly positive"
Now Im confused.
Yah I'm pretty well known in iracing scene as a iracing fanboy
@@GamerMuscleVideos thats great! it explains why you mentioned your irating in the title. I was confused before but now Im not anymore. thank you.cheers
I'm also never sarcastic
my fish is bruised from smashing it with my forehead
i was suprised how forgiving and easy driving (and less communicative) ams2 was when i came back from 6 months of acc. from the simulation standpoint i had a better memory of it. but it just depends on what you want from your sim. great video, i pretty much share your observations of the game.
Best sim ever, now is the GOAT ❤
You really nailed the explanation on my opinion
Same here, I want to like it but I just can’t… It’s not enjoyable to drive. A lot of people seem to love it so I guess it’s just not for me
i agree 100% with what you say about the physics, ffb, etc., but saying that the old ac with mods looks better than ams2 is just massive cope
The problem is AC visually can be all over the place even with great mods.
Also I think track quality and then car cockpit is also a huge aspect of the graphics
AMS2 is super consistent and all looks amazing + light transitions time of day weather transitions all fantastic.
If you play the top quality AC track and car mods with pure and shader patch at right time of day it looks less gamey / more photoreal than AMS2
But on average AC will look worse than AMS2.
End of the day both Sims look great and well above required graphics level for immersion.
Personally I dont care so much about graphics I'm more into things just being clear , that's why I quit like how iracing looks even through it's very obvously looks very dated a lot of the time lol.
I noticed the mushy feeling right away too
Although some cars exhibit way less of that behavior as you've mentioned in the video
Put FX at 0-5
I just downloaded the game again.
And what an odd thing to say about the GamerMuscle Channel. ;P
Your tea has LSD in it
ive never been able to get into AC due to how finicky it is. AMS2 being plug and play is a huge draw for me.
I was driving in the M4 GT3 and was still sliding around in lower speed corners. Switched to the GTPs and the sliding was gone. Somewhat disappointed.
i love the new update, but i still struggle with my ffb on csl dd , i cant find a good one
ive mixed in some dd2 settings in the NRF NIN and have damping in game on zero not in compatibility mode too
@@MrHayze88 ok thanx)
Great effort by Reiza! Now, back to ams1... Great Vid GM! 🍻
I own AMS2. I'm happy to pick up their DLC when it's on sale. But the physics feel strange to me. I put it down to Madness Engine stuff. So I'd love Reiza to build their next sim on another engine.
Sounds are better. I think the graphics look better, but you're still sliding a bit. It's definitely better than before.
It's in the Sim Basket! 🥰
Agree with majority of things you said. Still my favorite sim, specially with all the endurance stuff
AC1 has a to wide slip angle of arround 12 degree too and is far of a realistic behaviour. ACC has set the slip angle to realiic 7 degrees.
It’s great and I love it, but as a controller player it’s definitely a bit more difficult than on a wheel but that’s the only issue I have, aside from that it’s amazing
I was thinking they swung too much the other way and added too much grip...
Fabulous 9min 58 second video
Thank you for the video! Is this game worth getting if you are a beginner to simracing?
AMS2 and ACC are some of the most beginner friendly to get. You can jump in easily. AMS2 is great because it has heaps of cars/tracks and better AI than a lot of (if not all) other games (haven't played them all). Devs say future updates will continue to improve AI, bring career mode, and more.
Yah , on sale as well , race room is 100% free right now though
Thank you!
How do I get these fish scales out of my bloody forehead??
I think the game is way better, sounds better, had looks better. Game changing
I'm not a fan boy but ams2 is my sim choice, I play in VR only so that might be the reason. I came here before I fire it up for a critical look at the update. GM never disappoints in that department. I looked forward to career mode but I guess I gotta wait longer..
@GamerMuscleVideos I am asking seriously. Have you ever driven a race car in real life?
16:38 I think you will get more hate from saying that TRUTH about content manager + CSP + Pure than talking about AMS2 😂
Once I was almost banned on a discussion by just saying that AC1 with FH5 graphics levels and great cars/tracks (whats the point of a great moddel with shitty physics right?) cars wasn't pug and play.
Ive brused your forehead by slapping it with a Phish CD.
Isn't that braking issue where the Madness Engine got its name from?
my big complain is even with TC at 0 it feels like max TC with LMU :D
yeah, after the hype is gone, we see the reality ... we have the same feelings with the break / slip / grip .
AMS2 will be a fun racer with some buddies against the AI .... which is really great !
For competitive multiplayer AMS2 will play no role
