She's doing something that is so like her and that is very unique from everything else and it just shows! I would say that currently she's the most succesful iz*one soloist.
Yena is doing great. Yuehua knows what they're doing. She's fully, fully booked. I loved the song and she seems to have found her sweet spot. The b-sides are fun too.
I will say Yena to me has been the most solid post-iz*one soloist in terms of the quality of the music. If anyone hasn’t checked out her bsides yet I would HIGHLY recommend!

Honestly similar to Smiley (though no nostalgia factor this time), at my age I didn't find this to be too cringe and instead just a very refreshing song to listen to. She's like a real life Hatsune Miku in this MV, I can't help but to smile Edit: PD, as far as how big Yena is, she did win on her debut song. Also 123,302 sales on her first EP Smiley, Smartphone also sold 130,041 last I checked. So it definitely justified the budget increase. Also you know how Yuehua Entertainment is like, they might lack in domestic popularity, but they certainly don't lack funds to dump into a MV (Everglow)
If she was in another company releasing these songs she’d definitely do so much better 💔 unfortunately a lot of people don’t like Yuehua because it’s a Chinese-owned company.

Yena as an individual is absolutely everywhere in Korea, especially TV appearances and her songs can be heard pretty much anywhere and everywhere. She was also one of, if not the most recognized member among the wider public, excluding active kpop fans. Yujin has been getting the most TV appearances and CF deals among the IVE members, and has been in the limelight more, where as Wony as only got all the spotlight in kpop circles, though she has been more widely searched up online which is mostly down to kpop listening teens and college age doing most of the searching
i really like that YENA doesn't release just only one song at a time. there's 5 songs in "Smiley" album, and 5 songs again in "Smartphone" album. songs like 'Lxxk 2 U', 'With or Without', 'Make U Smile' are hidden gems.

And her debut EP along with this comeback solidify my thoughts. I really think she has what it takes to become a leader in the industry. I’m also glad she gets to show her colors through her EPs. I think they learned their lesson from Everglow. You can't hate on a Korean native artist that has a massive fan following prior to joining Yuehua, otherwise they would appear as hypocrites. With how she did on her debut, they just starting dumping money on her songs. Its an investment to help their company and other artists as a whole

The entire album has me in awe, Make U Smile and WithOrWithOut especially have me captured badly. Solo YENA was my first impression on her and both her debut and first comeback captured my heart so much. She's an absolute star!!!
I'm so relieved Yena is doing comfortably as a soloist. Her music is so refreshing, and I can't imagine the amount of time it took to plan each mv. It's catchy, nostalgic and an easy listen. Even though I've loved her since IZ*ONE, and she hasn't disappointed -- I'm so so impressed that she was able to top herself-- and show a new side of herself, even though she already has a strong side. Really love it, although it reminds me of what I expected of WekiMeki and Somi when Somi debuted Birthday, but it wasn't something that their company was able to lean into fully.

Yena MIGHT be the female solo idol that breaks the global scene. Her sound and look is so refreshing, yet universally appealing. Any audience, any age group, any gender I feel can find an attachment to her. Been waiting for someone to blend the Western and Korean on a solo level, "most" K-pop exclusive soloists are very cemented into a K-pop sound without much innovation. I thought Sunmi and Chungha would be ALOT bigger than they are by now, but they sadly havent gone mega global. Only Somi, along with Yena I think have the makings of being global superstars on the exclusively solo stage right now. I wasnt really into IZ*ONE so I wasnt a fan before hand of Yena, i knew little about her, but she has grabbed me since debut.
Western music is full of good soloists. There is really no driving reason why a Western audience needs to seek kpop for soloists. Main reason kpop BBs & GGs became big in the West is because for some reason, they refused to make them in the West.

Yena is one of the best charting soloists in korea this year, as recent as 2 months ago, smiley was still charting in top 50. I don't know about korean kpop fans, but among the korean general public she was one of the most popular and recognized Iz*one members and that has appeared to transfer to here solo career. From friends over there, smiley and now smartphone can be heard in malls, department stores, petrol (gas) stations etc. She is getting a lot more than just kpop listener recognition in Korea
And she is starting to get invited to music festivals and her upbeat pop-rock and personal sense of humor make for a great opening act or someone to help hype the crowd for a headliner or keep people up between headliners. If she keeps having success, she may headline herself at some point. Her streaming numbers have been really solid, so people are clearly listening to her songs as they are kind of an energy boost, which really fits her personality so well. Her songs are kind of uniquely hers. Only a couple artists could bring the right energy to them, like Sana or Yuqi perhaps (Basically other extroverted energy pills).

I just love Yena. I still think Smilie is a better song, but Smartphone is a better MV. They're both great though.
the thing about yena's company or yuehwa to be specific is that they always got the money in every comeback of their artist but when it comes to pormotion, album, lightstick, & tours they sucks.
I think it may grow on me later, but for now it's not particularly my type of song, but that's not to say it's bad. It's very Yena, and it's very good at what it does, if that makes sense. So even though it's not for me, it's for sure not bad. It's different.
