  • Free Western Series: Bonanza - Episode 128 - My Brother's Keeper - During a wolf hunt, Adam accidentally shoots Little Joe, and must find help if Joe is to survive.
    My Brother's Keeper
    Director: Murray Golden
    Writer: Seeleg Lester
Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
    Genre: Western
    Country: USA
    Language: English
Release Date: 7 April 1963 USA
Filming Locations: Stage 17, Paramount Studios - 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA
    Storyline:
"After Adam accidentally shoots Little Joe during a wolf hunt, he gets help from Mr and Miss Reardon, an Irishman and his daughter passing by. Once back at the Ponderosa, Adam finds one obstacle after another to gaining the medical attention Joe needs. The doctor is late coming, the medicine isn't at the pharmacy, and three lawless men try to extort money for the medicine. Adam must grapple with his own feelings as well as he struggles to find a way to save Little Joe." Written by Charles Delacroix on IMDb.com
    Reviews:
"On a wolf hunt Pernell Roberts accidentally shoots Michael Landon who is then attacked by said wolf. Roberts eventually gets the wolf, but Landon is severely injured with both gunshot wound and bites.
While Little Joe is on the critical list, Adam is as you can imagine deeply troubled. Even more so by the fact that three bottom feeding saddle tramps waylay Dan Blocker and steal medicine that Little Joe needs and hold it for ransom.
Also in the story are Brendan Dillon and Carolyn Kearney a father and daughter pair of passing pilgrims who help Pernell Roberts with his brother. They've gone west for Dillon's health, but Kearney hates it and she makes Roberts question whether he isn't better suited for back east.
Nicely done story." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com
"I loved this episode. One thing that you can learn from it is that there are consequences to your actions, whether deserved or not. While cornering a wolf that's been attacking their cattle, Adam accidentally shoots Little Joe. That sets off a chain of events that causes distress not only to the Cartwrights, but also to others in the area, due to the sound of the rifle shots' (apparently) causing a stampede. Ken Lynch gives an outstanding performance, IMHO, as he usually does with the characters he portrays. He was a natural!
This episode has some good acting from ALL the characters, even Little Joe in his bed- ridden, coma-like role is very believable. The side story about the man and daughter, whom Adam runs into while bringing injured Little Joe back home, is interesting to learn. The importance of Family is stressed; it helps us to see that close family ties - which, I might add, are woefully lacking these days for many - not only molds our personality, but can motivate us to choose our course in life, even if it goes against our own desires. Unselfishly putting other people's interest ahead of ours is really the epitome of love, isn't it?" Written by tas-10 on IMDb.com

Wow, I really loved this episode. It might be my favorite of the whole series! What an interesting premise - having the oldest accidentally hurt the youngest, and having to grapple with that guilt. There’s so much great acting from all the characters here, but Pernell does a lot of subtle acting that really clues us in how much he’s struggling, and especially knowing how stoic Adam is all the time, it hits harder.
My new favorite bit of dialogue is also in this episode, “If this doesn’t save my brothers life I’m going to kill you.” CHILLS. Pernell Roberts was a fantastic actor.

I remember Bonanza from when I was a child. And thanks to the people who have made reruns possible I am able to enjoy episodes once again. The original cast was a perfect combination and after watching episodes with Pernell Robert's and those after he left I sorely miss the days with Adam. He is the intense one with compassion and love of his own style. Extremely attractive and a gifted actor. He had his reasons for leaving the show. However, the show and the family dynamics just wasn't the same without him. I have missed him but I have seen him in other shows. I feel grateful for that. And I am not criticizing the other three. They brought their own unique talents to the show which is why it was able to last after Adam left. But, it was a different set of dynamics.

@lesliewells-ig5dl God doesn't always get credit for the good things, nor always for the bad. However, people do tend to blame Him a lot for the bad. But people make bad choices and there are consequences. That's not God's fault. He wants to help. We choose not to accept that help sometimes.

Fortunately, a missionary couple came to my church and told me about an ALL natural medicine that I should try. It worked! It has a very special ingredient in it that the FDA and doctors refuse to admit can cure a lot of incurable diseases. That ingredient saved my sight and life in 2015 and it cured me completely from celiac disease. I'm using a different brand now that has that same ingredient in it. The medicine that I'm using now healed me quickly and completely from the COVID. It is recognized as a treatment for COVID in Florida. Again, it's completely natural. No, it isn't Ivermectin or Hydroxichloriquin. Anyone can take what I'm taking if you're not allergic to bovine milk. I have to rely on all natural medicines because I have been allergic to 100% of prescription medications that I have taken for various things since 1978 when I was 21 years old. Natural medications do work better than prescription drugs do. I know 2 people personally who had cancer very severely. They both avoided chemotherapy and radiation. They both changed their diets and they both took herbal medicines. They both made full recoveries with no trace of cancer. They were both middle aged too.

I was really shocked at how rude Adam was to that family. Right from the beginning when they stopped to help him he started acting like a jerk. The father tells him very politely he doesn't know the way to the Ponderosa and Adam very abruptly says Just get going, I'll show you the way. After they got to the house Adam was treating them more like servants who he expected to follow his orders rather than a kind family who had been caring enough to go out of their way and bring them all the way back to the ranch. He never even uttered any kind of appreciation or thankfulness to them until after they'd been there helping all day. Then he finally remembered some manners and offered them to stay the night. The father realized Adam's heavy sense of guilt and tried to help him feel better a few times but Adam just jumped all over him for trying to be helpful. Yes, I understand Adam was concerned about Joe, but that's no reason to be so rude to people trying their best to help in a bad situation.

    • @3Ddude101
      @3Ddude101 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The plot was a little dull hoping Little Joe would get better, especially since we all know nothing could ever happen to him, so they had to throw in a few guys demanding money to spruce up the action. But shooting up the house, breaking in and threatening to kill people got to be more than a little ridiculous just to collect 3 grand for some cattle. Hardly worth going to prison for destruction of private property, all the restitution, extortion, and attempted murder just to collect 3 grand they weren't even actually owed.

Do you not realize the year these episodes were made!! Blood and guts weren't what people wanted to see like the Generation of this era, where they see brains, guts, everything bloody splattered everywhere. TV and movies were sensored back then. People didn't need to run around naked and call it talent either. Romance left something to the imagination, but not these days because the lazy generation has no iminagation . They think porn is love. These decent programs are something the family can watch. Older Westerns had good storylines, and they shot guns, like throwing the bullets out, not real, but entertainment! The Generation that grew up watching Bonanza, Ed Sullivan, The Nelson's( Ricky Nelson), Elvis, The Beatles, and great music, knew the Ten Commandments appreciated what we had. Half the kids had to earn the right to watch TV. The Generation that didn't complain or you'd get something to complain about. Oh! Just go watch a horror movie, or watch the Prince Harry and his Delilah ruin their life. Complain there.
