Perfect example of "I taught you everything you know, not everything I know"

@@richardhamblen5526 Sad and true. I remember the episode where Ben was being suggested as governor if Nevada became a state; and I wish there really were politicians with even a fraction of Ben's integrity.
Weak, because he didn't have the upbringing (dead dad at 10yrs old). Everyone eventually learns at some point in their life, or they never find out what they missed out on. You don't know what you don't know.
Well that weak man needed that power and to stand up for himself otherwise being that weak man is how others will continue to see him .
I love the symbolism at 38:52 when Johnny rides into town and gets off his horse, removes his hat, dusts himself off, removes the strap securing his gun to the holster, lifts his gun a little and drops it back into the holster and then swaggers into the saloon like a bad ass cowboy. That is exactly what Mooney did at 0:23. In fact, Johnny was dressed almost exactly the same. Excellent job showing Johnny became the same type of man that Mooney was.
Little Joe saved that last move for himself.

I can watch alot of these episodes over and over except this one when it gets to the part when she says "wait a minute Hoss" I shut it off so sad and he played a broken heart a little too real.

If I'm not mistaken he wasn't doing anything illegal,he was just doing what the sheriff wouldn't or couldn't do. Go after and catch killers. It's amazing how in these westerns bank robbers are looked up to and admired but bounty hunters are treated like scum of the earth. This is the part of Bonanza I hate when they start moralizing about so called "right and wrong ".

I really liked the ending because Olive was very faithful to Johnny. Of course she wanted to get away from him when he turned into a killer, but at the end when he realized that he was a killer and that he wasn't as fast as Joe, then he changed back to the way that he was before. Olive was faithful to him because she could see that he changed back to the way that he was before so she took him back and they left together. That's the way that a woman should be.
The way a woman should be? That was no woman. She was a Whore, they toned it down in the series because they would lose viewing audience and probably even fined by the FCC and taken off the air... He became a killer because of a whore, which made him a brain dead idiot, and when he saw he could get rich quick by killing for money it took it...
A woman can be loyal but if the wrong thing happens and she isn't married she def. should know when to walk away. A guy like that would be damaged for the rest of his life, probably been a wife beater even...
What Little Joe taught his friend Jonny was how to defend himself, [ defend himself ] not as the aggressor. Little Joe showed love, and respect for his friend, unfortunately, his friend didn't have the same heart as Little Joe, we can't teach one to have a heart, it's either innate or it's not. HIs beautiful babe will have to instill this now.

Johnny learned from Joe how to shoot. He let his head get too big. One thing he had to learn on his own. No matter how good you are at something. There is always someone who is better.

@@redblade8160 Little Joe was fast, but never was known for being one of the fastest, I remember him getting out-drawn a few times. Even Marshal Dillon got beat...4 times that I know of.

Little Joe was too close to his friend girlfriend, you have to keep your distance from your friends' girlfriends, otherwise you will be in trouble, this was a close call for little Joe.

I asked this question once before : Why were bounty hunters so despised ? After all, they caught the worst kind of criminals whom the law was not able to catch. Moreover, if they wanted the wanted ones to brought in alive, all that needed to be done was to have the wanted posters read - ... wanted alive ! It would have been as simple as that. In fact, there would have been fewer words on the poster.
They abused their authority and were too violent. Also some were innocent

@@kevinleroy3374 As I stated before, if the poster had read Wanted ALIVE, would that not have eliminated any concerns about a fugitive being brought in safe and sound ? The bounty hunter was despised yet he did exactly what those who despised him wanted him to do.
@@Eturoel for a long time I didn’t understand either. I suppose it’s a matter of killing for money. Even though they are wanted men, there’s a certain cold bloodedness that comes with repeatedly killing men for a reward. At the end of the day it’s still a life that’s taken. So to make your living doing that….I can see why it wasn’t looked upon favorably

I see what you mean. I don't think it was fair to label him as a killer or compare him to a criminal. No one seems to consider the innocent lives that were SAVED as a result of a Bounty Hunter bringing down a wanted criminal. The last scene though, where he wanted to kill Little Joe, shows he had become hardened, ready to kill over any conflict. But you're right, asking for criminals alive would have eliminated unnecessary killing.

When little Joe said this thing isn’t any good for anything but cracking walnuts means the writers didn’t know anything about gun safety you always treat a gun like it’s loaded whether it is or not. As the old saying goes the most dangerous gun is an empty gun. On one other episode they had Adam scratching the side of his head with his pistol which sends a bad lesson to people that don’t know anything about guns but it just wasn’t Bonanza but a lot of westerns that were irresponsible about guns.
Human beings were given free will with the way we choose, G-d responds to our choices.
Good episode. Back then, many people considered bounty hunters as not being much better than a hired gun.

I thought it ironic that this man who was once unskilled in handling a gun, then became a killer after Joe unintentionally taught him, then hopefully returned to the man Olive had fallen in love with, was given the name of the man legend named Johnny Appleseed, John Chapman. Certainly a humdinger episode of Bonanza, a series that will live on in history.
This is one of my dear friend & mentor's Bonaza episodes. John Florea directed over six hundred hours of Prime Time TV, from SEA HUNT & FLIPPER to CHiPs & McGIVER & HONEY WEST, et cetera....
I've seen all of them, at one time or another..
If Bonanza was set in the 1860's. Then $2000 in 1865 is worth about $35,000 today!

I want to learn the Cartwright Cartwheel. Way to go lil Joe: FAST AS THEY CAN EVER BE.
Every now and then the show would bring in a character that was better than the skill of a particular Cartwright. In one episode Little Joe got outdrew by a gunfighter and in another Hoss lost a boxing match to a professional boxer.
What a sanctimonious episode. Calling him a paid killer instead of thanking him for clean sweeping their barn of their rats.

I guessed the storyline and ending when Johnny asked Joe to teach him to shoot, but nevertheless it was a well conceived episode.
The story line is also implied in the show title.
Most of these episodes aren't so incredibly profound, but they certainly give one some concept to reflect upon while being entertained.
I seriously doubt Olive and Johnny will have a happy life together.
I think the ending shows he will go back to being the type of man she fell in love with. It's implied by him being wounded, following her, then them walking together.

This series was known for inconsistencies, but I never before noticed this one and all the times I’ve watched this episode over the decades. At minute 25:59, Joe knocks on the Olive’s door the chain lock is on the right side of the door. However, when she opens the door at minute 26:01 the chain lock is on the left side!
At 25:59 they were filming through the reflection in the mirror. At 26:01 they were looking at the door in real life, so the image is flipped.

When I first played it from 25:59, I was shocked that it flipped sides from the long shot to closeup! That didn't make sense, so I when back to 25:59 and saw the mirror frame. :)

Those people give that bounty hunter money and tell him what a great guy he is one day, and the next they act like he's dirt. They also act like the guy who was harassing the bounty hunter to be was a saint or angel. In San Antonio, Texas, they have a saying: "If you're looking for trouble, you're going to find it." The sheriff is one of the biggest hypocrites of them all because he knew there would be killing when he accepted the badge.

Little Joe didn't teach him the barrel roll come-up Shootin move. If you really think about it logically Little Joe was a Gun Slinger from the number of people he killed during the length of the series, yet he hates bounty hunters.
Well he never did it for money, power, or anything else for his own gain - he always just tried to stay alive when evil men tried to kill him

The man named Johnny was lucky to have a woman who loved him and a friend like Little Joe. True that Little Joe taught the man Johnny how to shoot a gun but Little Joe would not have wanted his friend Johnny to become a bounty hunter!!! Still I do not think that Johnny was bad he just got caught up in the fact the every time he pulled the trigger rightly or wrongly more money was in his pocket! Easy money!!!

@@wayahedia9989 I somehow remember that the silver strikes at Virginian City was supposed to be in the 1850's. So the production company had a compromise not to include cartridge loops on the gun belts. The normal revolver back then would have been loose black powder and no cartridges.
@@shooterqqqq Looks like the timeline of the series was supposed to be 1861-1867. So you're right.. The Colt wasn't invented yet! I seem to remember the first year of Bonanza they had time accurate guns.

I notice that the "gunslinger".. when he ride into town... had to look down at his gun when he was taking the safety strap off... a real tools man does not look down to see the holster... it's all by practice and feel... ask any real gardener with clipper etc
