This episode was later "recycled" for Little House. Carolyn was baking pies for a church event and was supposed to catch a ride with the Reverend Alden to the event. He came to the house to get her but she was passed out She had cut her leg on an exposed nail and it became infected, the book she read for instruction was the bible . She lanced the wound, Doc Baker said just in time.
It's hard to see them hurt even after all this time even if you've seen the shows over and over and I have. But my family and I loved them and I still do. This is where Micheal Landon got the idea for the Little house story that has Carolyn at home alone and her leg hurt and she has to make the same decisions that Little Joe had to make in this show. Michael Landon had 3 Shows on NBC at the same time. Little House on the Prairie. and Father Murphy and High way to Heaven. He has been the only one do this.

I felt so uncomfortable watching this epidsode..watching Joe in great pain..i felt the pain too, through his expressions. Michael Landon's acting is excellent.

On Little House, There was an episode Called "A Matter Of Faith" where Caroline fought an infection in her leg. She was alone and baking pies while Charles "Michael Landon" took the three girls on a trip to a Pig Farm. Many of the storylines and plots are the same in both series.
I really like Little Joe's hair like this! And that opening scene makes me grateful my dogs can sleep right through a thunderstorm (even though a dog couldn't trample me, lol). But I'm happy they've learned not to fear thunder and fireworks. All dogs can learn this, if they learn it from puppyhood 😊

So here's mine I Love Bonanza always will, I Love Little Joe he's my favorite Cartwright , His Ears are perfectly fine , His Butt is also perfectly fine, I loved his Beautiful eyes & smile, And I Absolutely love his gorgeous Long curly locks whatever color it is. He looked fine with His short hair but he looks even better with His long hair. I really like this episode it shows Little Joe's amazing courage even through all of the pain of being injured so badly but to keep going & fighting. Poor Joe 😢I agree with a few others it seemed like Joe was always hurt , kidnapped or accused of something more than anyone else but like someone else said that was one of the many reasons why Bonanza stayed so entertaining through all 14 season's. Agree with nearly everything you say. I only watch it for him - I wouldn't watch it if he wasn't in it. I hate the episodes that he's not in, or only has a small part. Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous, beautiful hair, beautiful face, and the most stunning eyes I've ever seen. I think short hair suits him best, though, 'cos the longer hair makes him look older. The only blemish on his handsomeness is his teeth, and I'm quite surprised he never got them done. Despite his gorgeousness, if he'd been a horrible person I wouldn't have liked him. But he was as beautiful on the inside as he was on the outside. Warm, sunny, gentle and kind with a heart as big as a mountain. His only faults were his quick temper, his liking for the ladies and a tendency to be a bit judgemental. He was one of my favourite characters on TV.
when Mike became an actor he did have his ears fixed so they didn't stick out so much. Other than that he's all pure Landon or Orowitz, whatever you prefer.
Yes, quite a boy. There were a couple of places there where Joe reminded me of Elvis Presley. And yes, great acting. I felt as if I had been suffering with him. Tim was a cute little guy. 🥰
He was a girly-man. Girly giggle, lifts in his shoes, stuffed sock in his pants, and the episodes he wrote and directed always starred him in the biggest roles. He suffered from little man syndrome. Changed wives like socks.
The only problem I have with this is that everything happens to little joe. He's the one who gets shot, bushwacked, stomped on, beat up, mauled by a wolf...the man has nine(9) lives. I get tired of it aways being about little Joe. He's an accident waiting to happen.

Very intense. I was beginning to think that Joe was going to become an alcoholic.( a matter of circumstance) However, I am glad that it didn't go down like that. I thought that maybe he could've used his faithful horse to help him get from the barn to the house. And I don't know why they didn't have dogs on the Ponderosa. If he had one, the dog could've gone for help. " Go Shep! Go get help! Good boy!" It could've worked.
They had dogs in one episode that was their cousin's hounds he got from a guy who was trying to get rid of his daughters bird dogs, well none of the men were too happy with the barking lol so i imagine thats why they never wanted any.
When little Joe looked up his symptoms reminds me of people looking up their ailments on Google. He should've spent his energy on figuring how to get on the horse to ride into town
He wouldn't have known to go find the Cartwrights on the cattle drive or where to find them. Whenever Joe does that on the show, he's sending Cochise home. He knows Cochise will go straight to his warm barn and feed bin and his family will find him
I was thinking the same. I had a broken leg and wrist, no way to walk on that leg. Without the weight , it was hurting like hell, let alone standing on it. Wheelchair for a while, then no weight crutches.
Not true my dad was operating a ditchwitch digging trenches when he got his leg broken he went home took a shower and then drove to the hospital and walked in after parking on a broken leg. He was almost 50 yrs. Old. Back in late 70s. Men born in the 20s were tough.
First Bonanza show I know where there’s no violence no shooting n no killing. Sad that Adam had left Ponderosa for good or else he would have rescued Joe.
Painful situation for little Joe. I wonder if they used liquor for pain all the time back then? Maybe that is why you always had to have whisky available. It's good that they finally rode back. Intense episode that's for sure.

Sad that Adam had left Ponderosa for good or else he would have rescued Joe.

Painful situation for little Joe. I wonder if they used liquor for pain all the time back then? Maybe that is why you always had to have whisky available. It's good that they finally rode back. Intense episode that's for sure.
