I carry a para3 lightweight every single day for the last few months and I absolutely love it. Sometimes I will switch to the Mannix2 but the para 3 99% of the time.
I appreciate that Spyderco is able to produce a blade in a steel that no else can. I haven't pulled the trigger on a Maxamet model yet, this review has considerably swayed my opinion.
I’m so excited I found your channel. I’m a knife nut starting to move from buying all sorts of budget knives into higher end things with quality steel. I think I’ve watched all your videos today. Found you because of all your shaman talk. Keep it up!
I inadvertantly bought this exact knife about an hour ago. I've been watching your channel for a little while now and I've seen your para 3 with the other color scales you have, can't remember what color, and told myself I'd buy one one day. I can't wait to get it in my hands. And in excited to see how well the maxamet holds up. But yeah, same scales and everything as the one you're showing in this video.
I can practically stop the patina from forming, i.e. I can make it look quite a bit better, by cleaning it with Bar Keeper’s Friend metal polish, which evens the patina out quite a bit. It definitely looks a lot better after that cleaning, just be careful not to get it on the G10, as it tends to stain (I don’t have that problem, having swapped all my G10 out for metal).
I carry a blurple para 3 in S110V. It’s my edc. I first bought a PM2 but did not care for the size. The Para 3 is a much better fit. My wife got me a Para 3 in Maxamet which I have been wanting. I will rotate between the two. The Para 3 just feels like the perfect size knife for what I need. It is a solid build and I’m not easy on it. I bought some fine diamond stones to use with the Spyderco sharpener. Just touch the blade up every now and then and it’s always good to go.
I just purchased the same knife and ordered the same clip after watching Nick Shabaz’s video about how awful the stock pocket clip is. I am glad to hear you praise the MX clip because I have never bought one and was not sure I would like it.
You don’t need to use a hammer to install the lanyard tube! But you do need to do some minor surgery. The problem is mostly in the liner, where the gap where the tube goes through is too tight. I’ve found that if I remove a TINY amount of metal (I use emery cloth wrapped around a drill bit) from the hole where the lanyard tube goes through, the tube pops in and out easily! Furthermore, the knife assembles EASILY! Since I remove just enough metal to allow the tube to slip through, while still fitting quite closely, the assembly is as strong as ever.
It is a good looking knife. I agree I think it is too much. I like Maxamet would love to have one in collection. I also want a cruwear in collection. I look forward to seeing your long term review of the steel.
Veterans and First Responders get a 50% discount ordering direct from Spyderco so the Maxamet Para 3 can be had for $147.50. I have the Lynch deep carry clip on my Para 3 and it works great but like the looks of your MXG clips better. Enjoyed the review.
Maxamet is an interesting steel and in fact I have one grey frn Manix 2 but to me being stainless is very convenient for an EDC model. For that reason the only Para3 I would buy is the Blue CPM S110V version. During hot days a Maxamet or an hypothetical K390 version (like one of my Delicas) literally could rust in my pocket even without have to use it, just because the salty sweat.
First off. She's a keeper buying amazing toys like that for you. Second. I've broke the tip on 2 Spyderco's. The first they replaced but I'm sure it's because I was active duty. The second I threw in the ocean because I was mad. Those 2 broken knives were not Spyderco's fault. They make cutters, not folding prybars. I, we, have to understand the design and use it accordingly. Great video you lucky guy.
I'm sorry to hear that. I'm also sorry to hear you threw one in the ocean, but I'd be lying if I said that didnt make me laugh a little bit 🤣. Good to hear you still have a good outlook on their knives 👍

I’m a little behind on this video. I’m watching para 3 vids now, because I finally broke down and ordered one. I was never impressed with the paramilitary 2, and I have 2, yet I still don’t get it with that one. In fact, I’ve been a little put off by spyderco in years past. Lately, I’ve been picking them up, and giving them another try. The para 3 has always been kinda compelling, and I wanted to try maxamet.
Excellent video thanks 👍 Just looking at this myself. Love the pocket clip, can I just ask where you got it from again as I can’t seem to find a link attached. Cheers
The steel takes a bit longer than others to sharpen even with my Venev diamond stones. However you need to sharpen it considerably less often because of how hard the steel is.
Sorry for all the questions 😆 How many cut outs do you have in the frame in the handle? Mine has 1 in the middle-ish. The Para 2 has 2 cutouts. Just making sure mines real. My hardware, jimping, and blade seem legit.
Has anybody noticed that the Maxamet blade is, apparently, made in a different way than most other Spyderco blades? The broad “grind” is, apparently, milled rather than being ground, like I think most blades are made. If you look closely, you can see the straight, even lines made by a tool. That must be Spyderco’s method of working this difficult, wonderful steel.
What brand deep carry clips do you always say you use? I’m watching this trying to figure it out. Just got the Para 3 in S45VN and want the deep carry clip.
Who on earth are these people prying and putting flex onto a little blade made for slicing ? I think these people might need to belt carry esee knives or something
Curious what you have to say with todays inflated prices. You mentioned $200 for a maxamet was pushing it back then. Now a standard Para 3 in S45vn is $174.99 and the maxamet version is going for $247.99. Is the maxamet worth going for at that price?
How does S110V compare to Maxamet in terms of edge retention? I was thinking of getting a Para 3 in Maxamet but since I live in the Philippines where it's quite humid, I decided to not go ahead with it. I do have the S110V versions of the Para 3, PM2 and Military.
