    When trying to teach a command like sit, how long do you work with the puppy for each training session and how frequently during the day?

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A young puppy 5-10 minutes a day.
      And older puppy work until you end on a positive note. 10ish minutes a day.

    Great videos! Love your pups! Thank you! We'll be getting a puppy in the Summer, she's 11 days today ❤️ we'll have to pick her up and drive an hour and a half to get home. What's the best way to do that? Crate? How do I get her in? She won't be used to me. We will visit a couple of times. Should I leave her a plushy with my scent? Thank you for your advise! Take care and stay well! 🐾

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bring a towel or extra blanket. Puppy might get car sick. If you have someone else driving on your lap is good. If you’re by yourself in a kennel will be fine. Puppies are tiny so you can just place her in the crate no problem. I don’t find a plushy makes a difference. Havanese are extremely social and adjust quickly on homecoming day.

      Wittle Havanese - that’s exactly what we did. I drove the 3 hours home and Spencer rode on my wife’s lap. Along the way we stopped for a burger (and got one for him too 😄) For the next two years he was so excited to ride in the car because he thought it meant he’d get a burger. Havanese are the best!

    We’re awaiting for a Havanese pup this summer and this videos are very helpful! thanks! I have one question: we will be able to choose our puppy’s sex. Are there any differences in behavior that you’ve noticed between males and females? Do you prefer any over the other? Why?

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The saying goes “A female Havanese will love you but a Male is IN LOVE with you. I’m partial to females because I think they are a bit more intelligent lol! But I love Hugo and wouldn’t trade him for the world.

    • @kbuzbee
      @kbuzbee 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WxkR - in our limited experience, there is more difference between individuals than between genders. Each of our four (three males one female) are totally unique personalities.

    Hi! Your videos are so helpful! I have 10 weeks old female havanese. She is good at peeing on potty pad but she intentionally pees a little out of the pads when we stop playing with her. Or she shows her frustration biting, digging her bed or flush toys( so aggressive). I wonder how to fix it. People said it’s normal puppy behavior but I am worried if she stays like that. It would be appreciated if you give me some tips!

    Is there a reason you wouldn't give a sit command during this process?

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Because I am working on introducing a new scent. I’m teaching them to not jump up when I have the baby even if they are excited about the scent. This is easier for me since I have 5 vs having to give them all the sit command multiple times.

    Have you ever done puppy pad training? We leave on the 4th floor of an apartment and taking her out a lot is unrealistic, we are struggling with the potty training and I don't know what to do to correct her.

      I have used them in the past. I find they are problematic personally. I recommend a potty box with pine pellets and a screen for indoor potty training. Or a grass patch on a tray works well too.

    Hi! We just got a puppy she’s 9 weeks, when we try to scoop her up in any situation where she can’t be on the ground, (for example while she is pooping on the carpet) she’ll yelp for about 20-30 seconds like we are hurting her. Any suggestions or tips on how to make this behavior stop or how to better approach it?

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does she Yelp anytime you pick her up? My first thought is injury.

    How do you keep your intact male from running away? I have never had a male before. Is this difficult? Our puppy is coming from a line of champion show dogs, and I’m considering getting him health tested for breeding purposes. I want to learn all the ramifications while he’s still young, so I can make the best decision for him and us.

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We just work on heel and obeying commands. A trained dog will do wonderfully. The only issues we have with Hugo being intact are the Marking if a girl is in heat. But a diaper inside and letting him mark outside keeps that problem solved.

    Hello! I love your videos and been watching ever since before I got my Havanese puppy, and I know this question is off topic but I was wondering if you could help me? My pup is 6 months old she has had one groom and it was a gorgeous puppy cut, then covid19 happened and the groomer closed for 2 months, needless to say they are extremely busy since reopening and my groomer couldn’t take my pup for 3 weeks, and this morning she rolled in her poop 💩 and Much and got a little matted up,I gave her a bath and called every groomer around ONE was able to take her long story short they basically shaved her without my permission I was in tears 😭 when I picked her up, my husband says her hair is ruined now, and called the groomer livid, so do you know if it will grow back to the way it was? I am reading on google 😳😬yes I know , can’t rely on much these days and I’m getting yes and no, since she’s so young I thought for sure but then others say no it’s ruined and will never be the same 🥺😢what do you think? Have you ever had a Havanese get shaved and what did there hair look like? Again I’m so sorry and this is totally off topic but I know you know allot about this breed so I was hoping you could give me your thoughts 💭 thanks so so so much!!!

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aww I’m so sorry that happened! In my experience the hair is not ruined in the slightest. I’ve had to shave due to birthing causing matted hair on two of my Havanese. And I keep them short in the summer. They still have luxurious soft hair! I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Sometimes if mats are too large and too close it’s really painful for the pup to take them out and shaving is the best route. Hugs!

    Can I ask if I can leave my future havanese puppy at home alone for like 6 hours?( btw I’m gonna be with him first month )

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you do I recommend a potty box. Young puppies can’t hold their bladder that long. But as they get older it shouldn’t be an issue. 🐾

      Ester 37 - How did it work out? Ours are all paper trained. They have a place they know to go. One upstairs, one downstairs. It took us a while to get exactly the setup we wanted. Essentially we have a plastic tray with a cloth pee pad on it. We lay a paper disposable training pad over the top of the cloth. We change out the paper as needed... a couple times a day. The final step was building a plexiglass wall around three sides of the tray. We never needed that wall for our first three Havanese but our most recent (who is now five) is a “leg lifter”. He required that wall (for containment 😄) It sounds complicated (and a bit expensive 😞) but, for us, it’s easier than cleaning them off every time they went outside. It also allowed us to leave for work etc, knowing they’d be okay (there’s a gated off area they stay in) We’re retired now so that last part isn’t much of an issue anymore but we still like them being paper trained. No worries about mud, snow, rain etc. They go out when we go out, to enjoy the day, but mostly they are indoor dogs.

    • @WittleHavanese

      Have you seen the crate training video? You need to work on her being calm before you leave. And not allowing her to exit the kennel in anything other than a calm state.

    • @WittleHavanese
      @WittleHavanese  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. I am working on door training here. So when they are calm and waiting for direction I release them. Have them sit would focus more of the sit command than the doorway which I am focusing on here for Stormy.
