My havenese is over a year old now. Some advice I can give new havanese owners:
She was easy to house train, as long as you reward them when they go, whether it’s outside or on a weewee pad.
Start brushing RIGHT AWAY. Unless you plan on getting a very short haircut, you should get your puppy used to brushing. Brushing should be done if not everyday, every other day.
These dogs do get very attached, beware of separation anxiety!
That being said my dog is a sweetheart and I’m more than happy I chose a havanese!

Where are you located? I just lost my 15 year old Moose he was a Havanesse , I’m planing on my next you sound amazing.
My Havanese (who is now 4 years old), came to us litter box trained too. It was so handy! We actually kept his box for a couple years as a back up, although he usually went outside. He had no problem transition to going outside only. Although I confess he was the *biggest* whiner when we brought him home. In general he was quite the whiner the first year, but thankfully he grew out of it. He’s the sweetest most loving and loyal dog ever! Havanese are the best!

Toilet training not so much because she’s had diarrhea and vet gave solutions . Anyway… we’re both learning. But your videos are a life safer! Thanks!
We’ve had our havanese for 2 years in this upcoming March. She’s crazy smart but she’s also super sassy. She’s such a princess and super vocal😂she’s the perfect dog and she’s trained super greatly! I’m working on more intense training with her now to try and have her respect me a little more as she’s a family dog and I didn’t take a huge part in the training but she picks up training so fast now. I love our decision!

Hi! I love your videos. I have a new to us 3 1/2 month old (we are on day 4). Getting pottying down, learning his name and sit. Trimmed nails, butt, belly, bangs and feet - thanks to your excellent videos! Face is next. Training to go down stairs to his outdoor potty place. Whines on his crate at night. Great suggestion to have him do all naps in his crate. Thank you so much! Have gone from Great Dane, lab, bulldog, westie and now my Havi. Never had a dog who was so focused on me. I have to resist the temptation to cuddle as much as he wants to!

Don’t be nervous AT all . They are the most loving breeds . I rescued mine and I didn’t know he was Havanese. I went to get one rescue but they said he and his buddy Juno were very attached and they can’t separate them. Bruno was so easy to train , the most loving dog I’ve ever EVER had . They love to snuggle , they are dubbed VElCRO they love people , they love sitting quietly on peoples lap. They have human eyes and so gentle . Mine never chewed on anything . Never had accidents in the house . Such loving character . So easy going . They just want to be next to you . They don’t like being left alone outside . You are going to wish you had 4 of them

Hello there. Glad you did this video. I got a 4 month old HAVANESE three days ago. I also would like to see a video specifying time durations for:
teeth cleaning, ear cleaning, and bathing so I can add these reoccurring events to my iPad calendar. Thanks again.
+James R Patterson glad to read it! Teeth cleaning every day if you can manage. But once a week minimum. Ear cleaning will be after ever bath. Make sure the ear is dry and without odor and clear of excess hair and wax. Bathing is whenever they are smelly or once a month with regular grooming.

I want to love up on her, but first thing first is helping her to know her place and obey the rules. I want to make her transition to be warming; I would like to start training her right away. im trying to convince my parents that we need a dog, and the havanese seems to be the perfect dog. this video was very helpfull. i think my parents will be more comfortable with the idea of getting a dog since they will know what to expect.

My havanese dog (Cosmo) was thrown out a car window when here was I think 1 years old and then my moms boyfriend was working at a girls ranch and she had found him on the side of the road and she asked him if he wanted him and he said yes so we have had him for about 3, 4 years

Hi I'm getting a Havapoo in a few weeks (so not a full breed Havanese) my question is when you feed them do you recommend putting them back in their crate right away then taking them to their potty area after the timer? Or do you leave them out and watch for potty signals? Love your videos BTW and congrats on your new adorable baby!
We might be getting a Havanese this summer so that when it's young we can be home more often since I don't have school I can be supervising it. I've always leaned towards outdoor potty training but in this video, you mentioned indoor potty training. Now I don't know what to do! My parents are typically home during the day though if the puppy does need to be let outside. What would you recommend?
We just bought our puppy and she will arrive in a few weeks! We are really excited and have been watching your videos to prepare, but I'm curious about how to ease the potential of separation anxiety, especially during COVID lockdowns. I'm afraid of the puppy being used to both of us constantly being home/around and then gone more often once normal life resumes. We don't ever plan to need to leave her alone for more than 4-7 hours at most but growing up I had a Bichon who really lost it every time she wasn't around my dad and its heartbreaking to see!
Congratulations! Just make sure to kennel her alone a few times a day. Make sure she’s not on you all day. Havanese are very social but they do well with being apart for short bouts
Wife went out with her father and got a little girl puppy today. Jasmine. Off night shift tomorrow, so going to look after later night pee walks then. She wasn't happy in the cage today, but only cryed 30 min or so. Hope the training goes well
Regarding the Purina Puppy Pro Plan food, which do you prefer: the shredded blend (with chicken bits) or the regular/dry chiot one?

I have two Havanese - my boy is 6 years old and my girl is 5 years old. I am surprised at the difference in their size. Harvey weighs about 25 pounds and Rosy is only about 12 pounds. Rosy looked more like this puppy and Harvey had huge feet, so that makes sense. They are the best dogs in the world!
Yup my havanese is over 5 years old now. When I got her she destroyed her bed in the first week
Yes! We learned that quickly with puppies. The fleece blanket method is the best we’ve found. Once they are older they appreciate the beds more. Lol. 🐾💜

Just picked up little LuLu, my 9 week old HavaShire (3/4 Hava 1/4 Yorkie), 2 days ago and have been watching so many videos in preparation, and refer to your's often. So happy to hear how much they sleep, and to move her to kennel when she does fall asleep on the floor. She is very playful and darling, and I guess I've worn her out with playing and starting the training. Have a kennel with a playpen and can attach so doors open to each other. Just moved my potty-box in from my deck and put it in the playpen. We've had a few accidents before, but having this new way will make it so easy for her. That's how she was trained -- indoor potty-box with the doggie pellets -- and went straight-away by herself twice already. Much easier for me and her, and not have to go out in cold or rain. My breeder did a lot right, because she loves her kennel right away and the playpen set-up with potty-box. We've had some whining and crying, but not a lot. She looks coloring-wise just like your little fella in this video. Love my choice of puppy and thanks for all of your helpful videos. Expect to be using them quite a bit
Loved your video! we are getting ready to get a Havanese puppy in Dec! First-time dog owners! I would like to know if I can let the puppy nap on a blanket during the day and sleep at night in the kennel/crate? is it a good idea? will the puppy get confused?
As long as you are aware of where they are and watching for potty breaks. You can absolutely let them out of their kennel as much as you want. If you find they can’t seem to rest much you may want to utilize the kennel to give them a “safe space “ during the day. 🐾
What size do I buy of the crate you suggest? I have a space than will fit a 36"x24" but I am not sure if this is too big or too small. Also, in the crate is this where I put the bed, pee pad set up and water? I will pick up my new guy in another 4 weeks and I want to have everything on hand. Also, I really enjoy all your videos here and have watched some over and over. I am new to raising a puppy and I find your videos so enjoyable and full of great information. Thank you!

If you plan to use the litter box at night you need a large kennel to fit both or you need an X-pen.
Typically a kennel you just need a 24 inch or smaller for a Havanese from puppy to full grown.
But if you want to fit the water/food and box for a while until your new little guy can hold it. I recommend the largest you can fit.

Everything works out the way it should. Getting a pet is a 15 year commitment. It is great that they are taking their time considering. It’s a very big decision. Just continue doing your part. 💜

Thank you. 🐾 congratulations! No night light is needed for the puppy. If it helps you then go ahead. I suggest potty boxes over pee pads usually. Are you planning to potty train at night or once puppy is older?

Just got my new havanese puppy her name is lilo. She looks just like your puppy with the white paws chest and little beard. All this advice and you are allowing the pup to chew on your fingers instead of giving it a chew toy. LOL😊 I BOUGHT AN 8 Wk. Havanese who is 4 yrs now. Was easy to train and is a fabulous dog. Used to breed another breed as well as horses.
I don’t use a redirection method with biting. I use hand training. You’ll notice in the video I don’t wince. And the puppy is learning to be gentle with my skin. 💜🐾 I’m just a Havanese lover who is sharing tips that have proven to be effective for me.
@@WittleHavanese Actually, that's something I hadn't thought about & this pup was gentle, but they do have very sharp puppy teeth. I was surprised my Isabelle never wanted to chew on shoes, slippers or other household items as my other puppies did. She kept her chewing focused on her chews, and toys.😊The breed is more intelligent than any other I've had. My dad was a veterinarian who practiced large & small with an animal hospital untill he went into equine only in Kentucky. As a kid I had squirrels, skunks , silkey & bantum chickens, racoon, rabbits,
crow as pets along with the normal ones👍💕 Enjoy your videos😊

Love your videos and the breed! We just added our third Havanese. Our older ones are 9 and almost 3, all three are girls. Any tips on how to get new pup (5 months old now) to stop nipping during play with the older two? Our 3 yr old wants to play, but puppy bites her too much and then 3 yr old runs to me to hide.
+LaZee mouth training. You need to sit with puppy and stick your hand in and around their mouth. Get them to be gentle on hands. If puppy bites jump and say ow dramatically. That’s what I’m doing in the video. She’s biting my hands but gently. I only had to tell her ow once. You need them to understand that human skin means I need to be gentle.
are havanese really that affected by separation anxiety? can it be helped if we start working on it early? i'm thinking of getting a havanese, and this is it's the biggest point i'm worried about since we might need to go into the office a few days a month (or if we perhaps need to change jobs and work full time somewhere else than at home).

I just find it anoying having to confront my pup with these lunging growling big dogs cause i cannot avoid them(my neighbour has 4 huskies he is walking them 2 times a day, one of them escaped the house one day and attacked my other dog .
I like to walk my pup from day 1(short walks several times a day) but just making it past my street is difficult.
Anjo GijzenAA yes. That’s hard. I’d also recommend pepper spray on hand. And walk with you pup on the other side. Never cross a new dog on the same side your puppy is.
Walks are awesome but it stinks when other dogs aren’t trained well it can make things difficult.
Pepper spray is illegal here.

If you still have her, buy “ Per corrector “ at petco. It’s 10 bucks . It’s like a spray bottle but you are not supposed to spray it on her . Spray it in to the air . It’s not chemical , it makes. HISS sound and the frequency of the sound is like a snake sound . I’ve used it to stop dogs from barking , jumping on people , fighting with other dogs in the park ., you won’t regret it

About 7-8 hours as an adult. They would need a potty break by then and Havanese don’t like long periods alone.
