I think what’s being missed in this is that little girl thought it was her fault and thought she would be in trouble, but didn’t try to hide or run away she still alerted dad. That’s actually really courageous. What a good kid

I ran to my neighbours garage this week because I thought I smelled fire and when I looked I saw what I thought was smoke. I grabbed my HUGE fire extinguisher (I'm 5'2") and ran over. No fire. No smoke. I must have looked foolish, but I don't care, it's a duplex. He'd been using a drop saw in a confined space so it was just the smell of the friction on the wood and the fine dust coming out. I have four smoke alarms in my 72 square meter home. I'm 53, but remember when we had a kitchen fire when I was 4 years old and nearly lost our farmhouse. I'm not paranoid. I'm cautious. :)

She’s a child and most likely just automatically assumed she would be in trouble because she was the one who found the fire. Her parents say she’s imaginative and sometimes tells stories (lies) and they get on to her about that. So I’m guessing that’s why she thought she would get in trouble. I’m not disagreeing about punishing a child for something they didn’t do being toxic though.

Everything in this is straight out of a movie, the “Fire, no no no dad’s going to kill me” to the Frozen song queueing as she runs to get her dad, to the dad coming in like the hero he is. All of if was amazing. Traumatizing and a scary moment but a definite learnable experience. Always ask dad for help and always listen to your kids when they want to tell you something or show you something.

She’s a child and most likely just automatically assumed she would be in trouble because she was the one who found the fire. Her parents say she’s imaginative and sometimes tells stories (lies) and they get on to her about that. So I’m guessing that’s why she thought she would get in trouble.
I’m not disagreeing about punishing a child for something they didn’t do being toxic though.

Everything in this is straight out of a movie, the “Fire, no no no dad’s going to kill me” to the Frozen song queueing as she runs to get her dad, to the dad coming in like the hero he is. All of if was amazing. Traumatizing and a scary moment but a definite learnable experience. Always ask dad for help and always listen to your kids when they want to tell you something or show you something.
