I love this. In a world where there seems to be so much evil, it makes me so grateful that there are so many good people out there who reach out to support this girl. It's usually because the bullies are too lazy to study so they resent those who succeed in school. The guy wasn't having any of that...he said to the girl "You keep on reading"...He's right. He is just the right kind of voice a girl or boy that age needs to hear.

I love how there were so many different ways people's skills and personalities could be used to help. The fierce ones who told off the bullies, the teaching ones who tried to help the bullies understand why it was wrong, the more conflict-averse ones who just gestured for her to come sit with them. All of those responses were good, and showed how those people used their own unique personality amd perspective to help

It's awful though how so many people are opposed to the anti-bullying movement, and say it's making people weak and unable to cope with the real world. Really? Showing kindness makes you weak? I've even seen people say that if you don't conform to society's expectations (ie you read too much, you don't shave your legs, you don't wear "cool" clothes) then I have the right to point and laugh you. It's sickening. Getting bullied doesn't make you tougher.

I was trick or treating with my kids this year and noticed some high school kids bullying an autistic boy who I recognized from a local store.
I stood close by to listen in as my 5 year old went to another house with his dad. My 11 year old stayed with me. even though he was confused as to what we were doing.
As all of the kids laughed and walked away after telling this boy that he was annoying and to "get a life and meds and go find his mommy" my gut reaction was to confront them. I had some choice words to say to them ...But instead, since my son was with me, I caught up to the autistic kid and complimented his costume. He was dressed as a character from Dr who. We walked a few blocks together, he whole time me letting him tell me about his hobbies. We parted ways near my car and I turned to see my 11 year old almost in tears. I panicked. Until he hugged me and said that he was proud of me for being a good mom and an even better friend.
I told him that I was proud of him for walking with me, deciding that that boy was more important that trick or treating.
He rolled his eyes and said duh.

Bullying hurts deeply. I was bullied in high school because they all knew my father was an alcoholic. We weren't able to have a lot of clothes and couldn't afford to buy our lunch. It really hurt and I cried a number of times walking home from school.
If you see some horrid children bullying someone - step up for that person being bullied, report the ones doing it.
Last year, I got bullied and it was so hard, but thankfully the bully moved away, so now if I see anyone bullying anyone else, I know how it feels, so I’ll stop it, right here right now

I was bullied like this relentlessly a kid and now in my 40s, their words still play in my mind. Bullies tend to do the most harm when thier target is isolated and no one is around.
Exactly! I know because I was that person for many years. I was even harrassed by the 2 sons of the mayor of our borough for 6 years! Ed Janiszewski's 2 creeps of sons Eddie-Joe and David. Even to this day, in my 50's, the awful memories haunt me, as do the others.
I've cried way too much at this😭😭😭 Being bullied is not easy and when someone stands up for you, it really means a lot.

I was only studies boy in my class. I was bullied for straight 10 years of schooling. Now I have bright future and respect, those bullies are broke and working as labours. I am thankful to see them like that.

That hit me hard. I've been bullied throughout my school years, beginning with first grade. In high-school the bullying changed, but it was still that. Those years got etched into me. More than twenty years had passed since then, but sometimes that insecure, frightened, never-good-enough, cool-enough kid is still there. Bullying really affects kids. It stays with you. You learn to live with it. (I’m still reading...) ✌️

I read, a lot. I get made fun of because of that, and noone will really talk to me. I generally felt so much pain when I heard "only freaks read" and, I smiled when the man said "you keep reading"

I read a lot when I was in school. No other kids would play with me because of my weight and my mother was more than willing to buy me books. They were my only friends and to this day, I'm glad I've read all those books. I hope every child keeps reading.

I love how some of them went as far as to have the girl sit with them on the bus to continue protecting her! How awesome! I was tortured as a kid in school in a small town where EVERYONE knew EVERYONE. I had maybe one or 2 friends thru all of school. My parents had to step in with the school principals on several occasions. Nothing of any real substance was ever done tho. N when school was out I still had to deal with it if I left the house to romp around town. It was when I got out of high school I finally had enough and started standing up for myself. Now as a grown adult and mother of going on 3 this September plus the stepkids... momma bear comes out when my babies are getting bullied.
