I'm dubious American doctors have their diagnoses in order if this is amounting to "non-verbal" label, yet she's acquired this high level of a speech ability while being "non-verbal".
Seems more like she has some kind of an anxiety disorder that goes unresolved because she'd rather get over-medicalized with package treatments to autism. That kind of a label is mostly just easier for the mother and the community, hiding behind a comforting "at least we know what's up with her".

@@sboinkthelegday3892 There are different levels of function when it comes to Autism, some extreme and some grow up as productive adults, and indistinguishable until you get to know them. This is just a 5 year old finding her way in our world and a mom with a record of her development, just leave it at that

I have identical twin girls and the younger one didn’t speak. I took her to the hearing doctor and he said her hearing was good. So then I took her the speech therapist and she taught me some simple sign language to speak to her and sign. So I went and did what she asked me to and I started speaking along with the sign for it. Nothing.
A few days later, the older one started asking me for things that the other one wanted. “Mommy, (name) wants a cookie while she was signing the same thing. I was dumbfounded. My friend from church was an elementary teacher and she told me that once they started pre-kindergarten, she’d start speaking.
Lo and behold, that kid started speaking full sentences and speaking with great clarity on the words you would never think a kid her age would know the meaning of the words she spoke.
      She’s just an introvert. Hahaha.

My youngest was nonverbal. We spent hours and hours reading hundreds of children’s books and he would sit in our lap and intently look at every page, guide our fingers over every word as we pronounced them. It was constant effort by many, getting him to early intervention classes and therapy sessions and teachers (saints!) working tirelessly and you could tell he was so close to breaking out. One morning we woke up and thought we heard talking coming from the playroom. He wasn’t talking, he was reading! Page after page, book after book and it went on all day, and he hasn’t looked back. He’s still a quirky kid with autism but now a sophomore engineering major on a presidential scholarship.

Each autistic child is different I have two young men that are on autistic spectrum and they spoke words here and there to 1 was 7 and the other 5. Each one is different when it comes to vocal. It took 6 months to a year before they were able to make a short sentence like: Jonny ran across the road. Took a couple of years occupational and speach therapy with at home help where they could have a small quick conversation. They are in their 20's and still have short conversations . Most is things that they are interested in. Each child on the autism spectrum talks at different ages. Also most autistic kids have palet ( flavor) issues. Some like chicken nuggets, some like hamburgers. Their brain process is way different than those who are not on the autism spectrum. Some have epilepsy, our youngest has epilepsy and the older one did not. People who are on the autism spectrum have a higher rate of having epilepsy or other neurological issues. So do your research and learn about nonverbal.
Also most girls speak before 1years old as where boys are over 1 year. Most girls walk earlier too. Unless little ones are around toddler age they will walk sooner and talk sooner. Even at a young age they need positive socializing to grow.

Same with me. Even in kindergarten I was still silent. I’d go off by myself during recess and just draw in the sand. This girl started coming over and would draw in the sand with me. She started drawing letters and I would too. Then it became words, and conversations. The teacher always tried to get her to leave me alone but she always came back to draw with me. The teacher got mad one day telling her to leave me alone because I couldn’t communicate and she showed the teacher our words and the teacher accused her of only writing the words then I wrote friend in the dirt in front of the teacher. Soon after I started speaking but only with people I felt comfortable around. I never spoke to that teacher though. Even years later once I spoke regularly.
