    I ran out of surf fishing videos, so here is a recent trip targeting halibut. We did not get the 40 lb halibut we were hoping for but caught a massive ray instead. I hope you enjoy!
    I will gladly feature any lures/products you would like to send me ♥️

    That mackerel is the best halibut bait there is. Also loved to see the old Fenwick. I have around thirty of them.

      @Ducky2o  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The old Fenwicks are hard to beat. The one I use is from my grandfather and I have caught my fair share of fish on it. The mackerels are extremely good for bait but the small ones are sometimes hard to find. The lingcod also love them! 👍🐟

    You Americans are so lucky you still have huge fish like this, in Europe we not alone have almost no big fish - we have no fish left at all.

    • @Ducky2o
      @Ducky2o  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Is there lots of big carp in Europe? Most European fishing I see is either pike or carp.

    • @mnp3713
      @mnp3713 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@Ducky2o yes we do have big carp and other freshwater fish, but not many places mostly privat preserved sportsfishing waters. carp is not really native to Europe and considered an invasive species some places. Our ocean is totally destroyed we only have pelagic fish left that visit from the Atlantic like mackerel, herring some tuna etc. But all living at the bottom and coast are gone. No cod, flounder etc. Just sad just 20 years ago I still caught a few cod and more flounder. Had not eaten a self caught cod or flounder for 10 yr and I fish 100 days a year

    • @mnp3713
      @mnp3713 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I mostly fish for sea bass and sea trout this year's catch is around 25 sea trout biggest 55 cm and 3 kg around 20 sea bass biggest around 60 cm 3 kg. That's for like 75 days of fishing average 4 hours. Pathetic and I have acces to perhaps Europes best sea trout stream though they are small there are many

    • @Ducky2o
      @Ducky2o  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That is a shame that the fishing in Europe has declined so much. In the US, especially in California, the fishing regulations are pretty strict. Most rivers are only open a few months out of the year and most fish in general have a bag limit of 1-3. I imagine this helps keep populations good but sometimes it seems excessive for the casual angler. I release 99% of the fish I catch in hopes to not watch fish populations vanish. I hope you have better success in the future. 👍🐟

    • @mnp3713
      @mnp3713 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@Ducky2o yes very sad. I have always been wondering why. And I think it's because in Europe we have not capitalized sportsfish spicies or sportsfishing at all. It's almost free for all our politicians have never seen the economy of it. Also we have no game wardens, in my 40 yr of fishing I have been inspected once. But also the biggest problem is agricultural runoff of nutrients. I seen you also are starting to have algea problems in the USA I will just warn you. 104 of 109 danish coastal areas are in very bad condition 1/3 of our ocean are with no oxygen at all. Beware of your agricultural sector.

    Here in the UK and European waters we have overfished....and decimated fish stocks for the last 100 yrs.
    We still allow commercial drag fishing (along the sea floor), which I find deplorable.
    Slowly the UK waters appear to be recovering but, giving licences to foreign operators is not helping this recovery.

    Scallops are a entree that many people like(not me) but that's the point..... lol, sting rays are often caught & they are cut into w/ a
    cookie cutter small round circle knife. The wings of the ray are used to make "Fake Scallops". I 1st saw it done in Key West, Fla
    way back in the day. When you catch one, grab the front of it's face on either side b/c they can't get their tail to strike you if you
    have hold near the mouth & that's where the hook is. Did you guys see the proximity of it's tail to your arms? Watch for it as it
    happens really fast but if you grabbed the front they can not get you as easy. Nice catch & I don't like their meat but lots of folk
    do eat them? Nice little trip. peace

      its not rays that are usually faked as scallops. it is skate. But, maybe rays too, just I have never heard of rays being faked as scallops before.

    • @Ducky2o
      @Ducky2o  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for the information! I have heard that people eat them but I always release them back. The tails are very long and smack all over but the stinger all the way down can’t move very far. As long as you grab it’s front half, as you stated, it is relatively easy to unhook. 👍🐟

    • @diggy-d8w
      @diggy-d8w 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I always released them as well but some cut the wings off & eat them. I've tasted it & it's a rough meat like some
      shark meat. Some eat it regularly but I wouldn't eat it ever if I had fish available. Also, they cut scallop Shapes out of
      them to fraud people & make more money off the ray/skates. Selling meat like that is illegal but selling rays for the
      scallops is another charge on top. Fish -n- Wildlife will get your arse if caught doing it. StingRay "stingers" might be
      short looking but it's hooked onto them where if it hits you it gets stuck. It's a serrated edge & has a slime type of
      bacteria that will not only hurt but it will make you sick. Steve Irwin got hit by one & it hit right into his chest. That
      little one might not kill but it's make you feel bad for days. IF you hook one, grab from the front wings & one hand
      takes the hook out - keeping the tail as far away as possible. They are fun to catch. peace

    • @diggy-d8w
      @diggy-d8w 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@martinhill5881 The fraud guys will sell ice to Eskimo's man, they use a Sheepshead Fish & sell it as crab meat but
      the seafood industry does anything they can get away with. I mentioned Stingrays b/c I saw this done in Key West, Fla
      years ago. But they will sell anything they can pass off as a more expensive meat. They use shark as well but I've not
      seen this, I've heard they do it. I don't eat or like scallops but some love them & so I mention what I saw. It really only
      bothers me b/c it's cheating people out of their money = Stealing/Thievery or Defrauding to get money, I don't like.
      Be safe out there
