There was this girl I was friends with. She was very bro like, and chill about a lot of things. She said her doctors in Texas had said she couldn't get pregnant because of issues with her uterus. She wanted me to be her boyfriend, but I was still quite shaken up after the last female had done some messed up physical stuff to me.
I told her I wasn't ready yet, and she'd said "I'll wait for you."
I told her that "you should never shackle your life waiting for someone to change, if they don't know if they can".
Two weeks later she's with a new guy and is VISIBLY pregnant.

This just happened today in class. So... mini Storytime!
So, I am hearing impaired (I hope that's the phrase), I use Hearing Aids in order to hear better. It isn't perfect, but they're alright. So basically the entire day I wasn't wearing them, because my class was horrendously loud the entire day, they were so loud I had a headache lasting for HOURS. I got to the last class of the day in a horrible mood cause of my huge headache, I'm sure at that point It was a migraine. The class was Chorus and we were doing karaoke... not great when you have a headache. The teacher in there was chill and really friendly, he also knew of my hearing disability and would let me out of the classroom if I needed to without questioning. I asked him if I could step outside, and he said sure. I stayed out there for a good five or so minutes, the class was so loud I could hear them through the door. Soon enough I stepped back inside to see everyone taking out paper and pencil. Apparently while I was outside they got way to insane and had to write a full-paged reflection about how they couldn't do karaoke. The teacher said I didn't need to write it. I dodged that bullet, I guess!

Wait, are there still people who aren't aware of scientology? No wonder they're still in business. Brief summary from someone who isn't an expert but has heard a lot about them over the years:
Scientology is a religion based around the works of sci-fi author L. Ron Hubbard. Already that should sound too insane to ever work but apparently they ease people into it gradually enough that they don't notice the crazier aspects. Like most religions they mostly recruit from people who are miserable or seeking somewhere they can "belong," one of their main ways of doing this is with innocuous personality tests and such like the one mentioned in the video. If they can get your attention they'll take you to one of their offices, get you some introductory informational pamphlets (or even get you to purchase some books right there, which I've heard of people actually doing for some reason) and go from there.
Their main "lifestyle" message from what I understand is the typical positive thinking garbage. Your activities are increasingly monitored the more entrenched in the organization you become and they apparently have a long list of taboos, the most notable of which is that they are staunchly opposed to any and all psychiatric medicine or other mental health assistance that doesn't come directly from their dogma. They also have various secluded compounds and boats that they use to keep their members as removed from society as possible.
Once you get really, really deep into the organization (which I believe always requires maaaaaaaaaaaassive donations to the church, it's probably why celebrity scientologists are so well known since they're some of the few people that can actually afford to get that invested into it) they take you to a private room and finally allow you to read the truly batshit insane part of their core beliefs. Again, this is entirely pulled from the sci-fi novels of an author that was explicitly writing works of fiction and involves things like an ancient alien satan-equivalent called Lord Xenu that lives in a volcano or the intangible alien spirit things called thetans that have attached themselves to our souls and must be... calibrated or something. Basically absolute gibberish of the worst kind of hacky sci-fi trash, except you're supposed to believe it's all literally true.
Aside from their many terrifying human rights abuses it's a pretty interesting topic, so I'd recommend looking into the works of former scientologists that have come out to expose the truth about the organization and who can explain in much more accurate detail exactly how insane it all is. Leah Remini (probably most recognizable as the wife from King of Queens) has put together a lot of information on the topic since leaving so I'd recommend just doing a youtube search for her videos as a good place to start.

One time my friend dodged a bullet, but not so much me.
A kid in my math class must have decided enough is enough, and whipped out a gun.
He aimed for my friend, and shot. In that moment, everything slowed down. I screamed my friends name, and jumped in front of her.
Turns out I got hit In the upper stomach, and I never really felt pain, just blacked out after a few seconds, or at least that's what people tell me.

I was off reading in the middle of no where with my long time best friend and 2 girls. We were about 150 miles from the city and there was absolutely no one around us. Anyways, I was standing in the bed of the truck while we were drifting around this dirt road. (We used to put someone in the bed and the game was to hang on while the driver absolutely RIPPED around. We don’t anymore...). I was doing that for about 10 or so minutes when we hit a bump and I flew out of the bed of the truck. They didn’t realize I flew out so they kept going. About 30 seconds later, he lost control and ran straight into a railroad tie fence. They were okay, but one of the posts went through the bed of the truck and the pointed end stabbed right into where I was previously sitting. Not only that, but the barbed wire also snapped off the fence and whipped around the cab. So not only would I have been impaled by a huge railroad post, but I would’ve been pinned to the cab by barbed wire. I’ll take the road rash over that any day. I dodged a bullet.

When I was young, my family decided to take our small sedan instead of our minivan on a 3 hour trip because money was tight and the difference in gas mileage made it necessary. I felt something was off with him, so I never really pushed it and eventually he started hating me. I figured no matter, what, even if he hated me, it'd be best to trust my gut. When we got into high school, he began to cut class, smoke weed in the locker rooms, and throwing things at people. After that he kept getting arrested for drug possession, bit since his dad was a lawyer and made some $$$$ he kept bailing him out. Because we went to some "prestigious" art school, he wasn't kicked out despite it but did eventually drop out because of pressure from teachers and the administration.

My appendix ruptured in the middle of the night when I was thirteen. I couldn't sleep because my stomach hurt so bad, so I went to my parents. It took an hour to get to the ER (we live out in the middle of nowhere) and then we had to wait more than seven hours to go to a hospital where they could perform surgery. Then it took another five hours (or so) for them to find a doctor who could legally operate on a child (I was technically still a child, so they had to find a doctor with special qualifications or something). The appendix was already infected by the time they removed it. If I had waited much longer to tell my parents that I wasn't feeling well, the infection could have caused serious health issues or even possibly killed me.

      14 hours, huh?
Mine was in the middle of the day, it took 13 hours for me to be operated, but mine had basically already burst when they did.
      Although my day went,
      10am-4pm: complaining of bellyaches.
4pm-5pm: Docter and going to the ER.
5pm-1am: various tests to determine I really did have appendicitis. They couldn't work it out so they operated just in case, although they could have just sent me home.
      1am+: Operation.

    Here's mine.
Back in 2001, someone I spoke on AIM with started asking me about past lives and the like. I was nice to them since they were, well, nice to me. Then she started getting really really creepy - doing things like complaining at me for blowing her off (because I had forgot to sign off and she thought I was at the computer ignoring me. Back in the 2000s, this was common in AIM.), saying mean things about my family that I didn't agree with, asking for personal information like my address or my phone number, and trying to keep me online when I had to go to bed. The fact that she knew when I was getting off for the night seemed to really creep me out too, but let's be fair - you can sometimes figure out someone's schedule from when they get on/get off. She didn't ask me for money (Probably because of my age - I was 13) But still was trying to convince me to try and do things that sounded weird. Eventually I made the decision to say we were going out for a bit (I recall this was mid-2002) and... never logged back on. I made sure to avoid her. She creeped me the HELL out.
Then in 2004 I come across a story someone wrote and thought "This seems eerily familiar." Then I remembered my first AIM account. Oh god. That was them. I didn't know the guy's contact info so I didn't send him a message recounting my story.
That person who creeped me out? Jen. She wanted me to be their Yuffie.
I was 13, and managed to dodge the FF7 house thanks to my location (I was on the other side of the country from Pennsylvania) and getting eerie vibes. It was between March - April, so before the story took place, but since the guy who recounted the story doesn't mention Jen having a tantrum about me ghosting her, I can imagine that I probably wasn't as important to her anyway (a 13 year old across the country vs. a 19 year old they could extort for money?).
And yes I am aware of Tattlecrime - I commented and told her how I escaped.

When I was 16, I was hanging out after school with my friends, we were waiting to be bussed home because the only high school was across the entire city. I went to walk between two busses to cross the street and I STILL HAVE NO IDEA TO THIS DAY HOW MY FRIEND SAW THE BUS DRIVING WHEN TWO BUSSES BLOCKED BOTH OUR VIEW, but she yanked me backwards really hard by my hoodie the exact moment a bus came speeding down the street. I wouldve walked right into it and there wouldve been no time to stop, I wouldve been dead. It scared the hell out of me.

I was playing dodgeball once and was right next to the line, about 3 feet from this other guy who was well known for being a good thrower - fast, and accurate. I had a ball, he had a ball, and he threw it. bent over backwards and quite literally did a neo matrix dodge. I honestly wasn't sure that it worked, it was a more reflexive sort of thing. we both stood there for about 5 seconds, thinking "What just happened" before I realised this would be an opportune moment to throw my ball.
I've always wanted to tell this story, but never had anywhere to do so.

When I stood up the teacher came over and said “good job Hartford” then kicked me in the shin.

I wish I could have posted on that thread but I have this story that happened yesterday, I was driving to my Gf’s house. Before I went on the freeway I sparked a joint because I just got off of work and I wanted to relax, made it to her city and was 1 mile away when a cop pulled me over for having expired tags. (I renewed them a week ago) then he asks for my License and reg. Came back and said sorry about that because the new 2021 tags in Cali are red and he thought they were orange. Then I hear his partner say “it needs to be in a closed container” so they knew I had weed. The cop asks if I have anything illegal and I say I have weed on me. Then he asks if I was smoking while driving, I told him “I was hotboxing the night before and that’s why it reeks” then he said ok and let me go. Then his partner interrupts him and says “you know it’s a DUI if you drive high right?” Then me being the natural born liar says “I’ve heard but if I did don’t you think I would have gone into a high speed chase from the paranoia?”she laughs and tells me to have a good night. Just curved a DUI from the most strict PD in Stanislaus County.

Had a seizure while driving with my 18 month old baby in my car. We snapped a large tree like a toothpick, barrel rolled into the air, and landed roof down in a lake. I was thrown out far from the car and she was still buckled in her car seat upside down. I had a massive brain injury so I had no idea what was going on. The dodged bullet was that there was an old couple fishing on that lake that early morning who had originally planned on going golfing. They saved my baby from drowning and I was life flighted to a trauma 1 unit. My baby had two black eyes and a bump on her forehead and was released from the nearby hospital that night. Worst day/6 months of my life.

There's this one project in which I actually dodged two bullets.
During the last term (I won't specify my year at the time for privacy reasons), I had to complete this term paper for my English class.
I made some progress on it over the course of a few weeks (since my teacher gave us a few weeks to do the paper, we had no excuse to turn them in late), but I wasn't even halfway done when the day before the deadline arrived.
I was forced to work late into the night to get it done, but I ended up falling asleep before I finished it.
When the school bus came around, I decided to work on it using my laptop while my bus was heading to school, even though I wanted to sleep like I usually did. My original plan was to work on it in the library, because there were computers there, but I decided to work on it in the bus instead.
I skipped lunch to get it done in my classroom, and when I came down to the library to get it printed (you could print school stuff for a small fee), it turned out that the librarian was absent and the library could only be entered by teachers and students with permission by teachers!
I had a USB with my paper in it, so I initially thought it wouldn't be a problem.
When my English class came around, it turns out that my paper had to be printed out, and I had until the end of the day to submit it (submitting the paper days after the deadline would get points from my paper deducted depending on how many days it had been since the deadline).
I came into the administration office later during dismissal period (for reasons I forgot), and I learned that I could ALSO have my paper printed there!
I got it printed out and submitted it to my English teacher as fast as I could.
When I got it back, I ended up getting a perfect score.

My Dad wanted to wait until morning so that he could go back to sleep, however my mom got an uneasy feeling and decided that this couldn't wait. We ended up going to the the ER and were told that had we waited until the next morning I would have for sure lost my right leg. So yeah thanks Mom.

My sister dodged a bullet big time. When she was a teenager her three closest friends were going to a party and kept trying to convince her to go. She wasn't feeling it so she decided to stay home. At the party some guy one of the girls had a crush on showed up. The girls decided to go for a joyride with him. But it turned out he was drunk and he ended up slamming the car head on into a tree at 50 mph. Two of the girls died instantly and the one who survived had to climb over her friend's dead body to get out of the car. My sister absolutely would have been in that car with them had she gone to the party.

My grandpa was in the military during a time our country was being led by an horrible dictator, the day that went down in history as a major civilian revolution against him to take him down was almost a war. My grandpa was ordered to watch the house that kept in most of the military's weapons along with another guard, but before they both were sent there my grandpa took longer than the other guard to get ready bc he couldn't find his boots, they were in a rush bc it was *a gotdamn war* on the streets so he told the other guard to go to the place without him, he would deal with the consequences later. He finds his boots, gets a ride from another military car that was going into town but when they got to the place they found the door BLOWN open and most of the weapons gone, and the guard was no where to be found. Two days later they find him beaten up, face down behind a building on the grass behind some trash bags and still alive. He had been knocked out, kidnapped, held captive, beaten, knocked out again and thrown out of a ban by some people who were in on the strike against the dictator. So yeah, talk about dodging a bullet :P

It's hard for anyone to understand how terrifying that Wolf Creek Pass story is if they haven't driven the old Wolf Creek. In 2005 the state dropped millions into making Wolf Creek Pass safer. It's now 4 lanes with shoulders. However, there are still 400 foot sheer cliff drop offs all along the road and multiple hairpin turns.
Before 2005 it was a 2 lane road that narrowed down to one lanes where cars would have to wait at stop lights for their turn to drive the single lane along the cliff.
This video of Red Cliff Pass is the best video I could find of the feeling of driving the old road. Red Cliff Pass is convenient but not necessary. Wolf Creek is a major through route between Denver and Phoenix. th-cam.com/video/vfKBjf9SN9M/w-d-xo.html

Know the feeling. Forget the exact name, but there's a road in West Virginia called something along the lines of "dead man's [or "hang man's"] road" which has one-lane 270° turns around cliff sides and long drops. It looks over a mine, and at one area near the mine there's an entire part of the road which crumbled away from the rest into the valley below. And to think we took that road to avoid the New Jersey Turnpike.
