Front diff and trans Breather Mod FJ cruiser

  • Today I’ll be installing a breather manifold to raise and centralize the breather lines for a 2014 FJ cruiser, specifically the Transfer case, trans, front diff and actuator. If you don’t drive in relatively deep water, you don’t need to do this. If you do, this is cheap, easy insurance to keep water out of your drivetrain!

Thank you for the video. Can you please post a link to the amazon brass t connector you are using. Great job! Nice rig.

Thanks! I added the link to the t fitting in the description. Give it some time to load. You can probably find the part at your local hardware store as well. IIRC I used 3/8” but you don’t need it that big, 1/4” should be just fine. You then just need to match the appropriate size barbs and you’ll be good to go. I added a 90 degree elbow so my lines pointed in the same direction but you don’t need it. Hope this helps

i like your video but you did not mention the nylon barb measurement of the T connection ( 3 way ) ? And on your video post you obscure the the black nylon bard 3 way connection.

Really the extended breather is only really needed while the differentials or other are cooling by water contact. Once in water, there shouldn't be much cooling of the differentials so there shouldn't be much suction of air (by cooling) even if you get into water above the breather.

Did you just have those two breathers up against the firewall, or the two metal breathers and a plastic one? My ‘11 AT has 3 - 2 metal and one plastic.

Two at the firewall (trans/transfer case), and two above the area of the alternator just behind the factory battery location. All four are the metal capped valves, none were plastic.

The purpose was to help people do this themselves so thank you for the positive comment!

Good job! Im considering doing "breather" upgrades for my 2007 FJC. Currently, I only have a rear diff breather.
Def. will be following. Thanks for the content and your insight. - @FJ_REY

I’ll prolly buy that one, but no I mean the 2 breathers for the trans and transfer case that are on top of bell housing I legit cannot see them lol, did you have to remove / move the thick hoses on back of engine to see?

Since you’re responding though, just to make sure for the front diff actuator and the starter on top you need a 1/4x1/4x1/8 tee and for the bottom 2 on the transmission and transfer case you need a 1/8x1/8x1/4 tee?!
      Thanks!

Correct,1/8 to connect the factory lines to the T, 1/4 for the tube going to the breather. It’s tough to see but the breathers are between the firewall and the engine, just above where the trans bell housing is. It’s attached to the block using a plastic clip from the factory

Is your front locker factory? I wasn't aware that was even an option from Toyota.

I called it a locker but it’s actually the actuator. Corrected it at the beginning!

You run your mouth too much and waste time. Cut to the chase and get to the mod and quit patting yourself on the back.

Much of the content comes from questions I've received from other guys wanting to do the mod and would prefer the detail. These videos were made solely to answer those questions. Can't please everyone I suppose. Pro tip: there's a fast forward button that'll take you straight to the install :) I do appreciate the positive PM's I get for posting these...to each his own.
