Other than I look for abandoned tvs and take them apart. You can also find old tvs that no one wants in the free section of craigslist. Some other ways of getting scrap is to call company or companies, especially welders, often have a lot of "trash" metal that you might be able to get at. If you know any electricians, ask them to save the excess copper wire they normally throw away. When people put stuff out at the curb they don't want, you could keep a sharp eye out and pick up the good pieces. I was driving in a neighborhood and found a whole giant roll of copper wires coated in plastic that was just going to be thrown away. I hope at least one of these ideas is useful to you : ).

Yes no worries at all Phil, I was sick of seeing companies advertising simple lifters and tongs for ridiculous prices when you can just make your own supercheap and even put a couple of tweaks on them to make them perfect for the Crucible you’re using and save a shitload of money, hopefully they work out perfectly for you matey👌🏻

Recently stumbled across this channel and I'm hooked! I appreciate you giving the cost in different currencies. It's a great touch. Needless to say, I'm a subscriber now!
I must say this is the video that you really caught me BigstackD. I became a subscriber, a few weeks ago, after seeing a couple of ur videos and thinking, "that's cool must be expensive!", and ya proved it otherwise in this video...i was hooked! I decided to look into devil-forge and the 4kg forge seems to have caught my eye! Thank you for making these awesome videos, this is one happy subscriber from the USA! Btw, good luck on choosing the luckiest subscribers! (My attempt to be one of them!)
Nice design on the Tongs and lifters. Because I lack certain things such as Intelligence, ability and Tools I've had to go a slightly different rout. I cut the habdkes [[push bars]] from two lawn mowers in half. Heated them in an old furenace I converted into a Blacksmithy and used pliers to bend them Straightish then beat them mostly flat with a Sledgehammer. They already have the holes precut where I need them. Using the steel rim off of a garden wagon to form the curved parts then bolting together. Ugly but matches my face. :D
I so enjoy your videos, I wish I could afford your setup, I'd love to recycle metal waste into interesting objects, they're like mini works of art, superb.
Excellent tutoriel...
I really enjoy watching you do your thing D. I'm impressed with how you make your own tools and such. I like a man that's handy. Especially one who has confidence in his self. You think of something that you want to do and then you make it happen. Nobody does it like BigStackD! You the man!
Thanks for this bigstackd not only for the startup cost but for a guide on how to make the tongs. Been wondering how I'm going to make them for a few days then saw this vid lol
Thank you for the video, very informative. I always wanted to make my own metal pendants and chest making pieces (hinges, handles, etc) so a home forge would help.
You know, you're an alright guy! Anyone that makes sure that his firesuit has a cold one in its hand is righto in my book. Just as long as it's not diet anything (hey, if you're so overweight that you're scrimping on diet drinks, you have much bigger issues that need to be addressed - no pun intended...). Fire on!!!
Questions from a "Melting" moron: do you put the castings on ice to quench them, or just cuz it's cool to watch them sizzle? And if you see the shot is short (like 2 of the 3 coins you made) why not pop it right back in and liquify them right away? Is there a reason to wait to redo them? Or are you just casting stuff and don't care if it's perfect or not? Do you make your own molds for the coins, or are they commercially available? Do they cost much to have custom-made? Thanks for the info; I'll never do any of this but it sure is fun to watch!
I been following your channel for 2 years now the stuff you do amazed me I'm starting up my foundry project soon and I'm going to get into metal casting myself if you like I have some big chunks of brass that you could have to melt down for your next video
Matey if you’re in Australia I have a PO Box in my descriptions that people send things to but if you’re overseas it definitely wouldn’t be worth sending as they will charge you an absolute ridiculous amount of money to send it .
Thanks bigstackd i appreciate it I'll continue to watch your videos every week there pretty cool I have electric motors I tore apart and I learned a faster way to remove the coil from the stators by watching your videos
The video showing the start-up costs was perfect for those of us thinking about starting up the hobby but was wondering if you could do another one showing what kind of grinders and Sanders you use to clean up the pieces. And I was also wondering if you sell your pieces to steal recycling companies for an extra income?
Thanks for the price breakdown and the tutorial for the lifters :D I was curious about costs and all and it answered everything I was wondering about :D

@@bigstackD I have been stuck on watching your videos for a little bit. I have made my own foundry now but will be purchasing the Devil Forge 10k here in the next few weeks. I am looking for ways to save money in doing this and it seems that all of your videos point me in the right direction. I will hold off on any questions for now but would love to have a conversation with you in the future for sure if you would be up for that. Thanks again for all the great content and it was a pleasure to have a response from the person that got me into doing this in the first place.
No worries buddy just send any questions to my email and I can send you a heap of info about the furnaces and recommendations and a few links that might help, it’s best to communicate through email because I answer all emails but I can’t possibly see or answer the thousand comments I get every day👍🏻. Bigstackddddd@mail.com
Also I’ll set you up with a 5% discount link for a furnace or a burner
@@bigstackD awesome!
Recently stumbled across this channel and I'm hooked! I appreciate you giving the cost in different currencies. It's a great touch. Needless to say, I'm a subscriber now!
Well then welcome aboard matey!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻.
Wen you get time be sure to check what ya missed as there’s some bloody good ones back there😁
@@bigstackD Already on it!
thanks for showing us how to make the tongs i'll be making my own set soon. thanks for all you've done with the videos and keep it going
Just finished my pair of tongs! Thank you sir....
I so enjoy your videos, I wish I could afford your setup, I'd love to recycle metal waste into interesting objects, they're like mini works of art, superb.
Hello, really have no words, other than..... Wow!! I have to keep up and learn.
WOW! Such a difference in the shelves from this video to today's video 11/27/20!!! Your definitely on a roll to you 1 ton target!!!
Made an almost exact copy cheaply and easily. The feeling of doing things from scratch Cheers!
Brilliant on the home made tongs. Been thinking of picking this up as a hobby at home. Love watching your videos.
Thanks for this bigstackd not only for the startup cost but for a guide on how to make the tongs. Been wondering how I'm going to make them for a few days then saw this vid lol
Awwww....cute pup that Ingot.
Nice work and great production. Next stop, miniature home cast bronze Napoleonic cannons
Hello Bigstack, UK stacker here cost of my electric furnace (1200° max heat) £250, sand £20, hammers £30, gloves £15.
Thank you for the video, very informative. I always wanted to make my own metal pendants and chest making pieces (hinges, handles, etc) so a home forge would help.
Excellent idea to make marketable items for sale to gain experience and cash to help your hobby business.
Cool vid. An inexpensive flux core welder (no gas needed) would be a great addition to your shop/lab.
Even though I don't think we've ever heard you talk I still red these subtitles with an Australian accent.
Your how to videos inspired me to get my own and start doing it. Good onya mate
Your the man you've helped me alot when it comes to forging
You know, you're an alright guy! Anyone that makes sure that his firesuit has a cold one in its hand is righto in my book. Just as long as it's not diet anything (hey, if you're so overweight that you're scrimping on diet drinks, you have much bigger issues that need to be addressed - no pun intended...).
Fire on!!!
Good information. Like how it shows safety as well. Starting my supply piles now
Thanks for the video and the info about the costs. I will be doing this also in the near future.
I enjoyed this video. It gives me an idea of how much $$$ i will need to start melting .
I been following your channel for 2 years now the stuff you do amazed me I'm starting up my foundry project soon and I'm going to get into metal casting myself if you like I have some big chunks of brass that you could have to melt down for your next video
How can I send it to you
Matey if you’re in Australia I have a PO Box in my descriptions that people send things to but if you’re overseas it definitely wouldn’t be worth sending as they will charge you an absolute ridiculous amount of money to send it .
Thanks bigstackd i appreciate it I'll continue to watch your videos every week there pretty cool I have electric motors I tore apart and I learned a faster way to remove the coil from the stators by watching your videos
Thanks for the heads up on start up costs and how to make my own tools
video from 2019 ... i just came from work I know its not Friday but I want a beer with my buddy bigstackD ...cheers
I'm so glad I found this video... I have been thinking about a set
The video showing the start-up costs was perfect for those of us thinking about starting up the hobby but was wondering if you could do another one showing what kind of grinders and Sanders you use to clean up the pieces.
And I was also wondering if you sell your pieces to steal recycling companies for an extra income?
Thanks for the brake down cost. Going to give it a go. Canadian in the country side.
Great ideas Mate! Thanks again.

It was this exact moment, I left a thumbs up.

Merci pour la technique de fabrication de pince à creuset 👌🏻🔥
Best video of yours yet! Your a genius
Great 👍🏼 video
The icing on the cake 🎂 was “Little Ingot”
This should be a class in school that would be epic
@bigstackD Casting thank you for making videos about this it is very helpful and great to watch!!
Thanks for the price breakdown and the tutorial for the lifters :D I was curious about costs and all and it answered everything I was wondering about :D
