    Today I try some bismuth Crystals with mixed results , as well as some fallout flip coins. Unfortunately I ran out of time so fanmail will be moved to next Fridays video but the usual bits and pieces are here today. Hopefully you enjoy and I'll see all you beautiful people next week. And most importantly have a happy safe weekend😁👋🏻

      For more crystals the slower the cooling the wider the pan. Also vibration makes cool crystals. Like a sonic jewelry cleaner something like that.

      Check out "Sharpest Bishmuth Knife" by an also very esoteric TH-camr. This one's Japanese and I unfortunately don't know how to type the Kanji his account name uses, but should be easy to find with the aforementioned search.
      Another good Bismuth video is by NileRed (maybe Blue, but definitely not Green) who attempts to recreate the knife made by the Japanese TH-cam mentioned above.

    I remember reading about bismuth. I remember reading that you can assist the crystalification process by throwing in a few sacrificial crystal pieces or a broken piece when you set it aside to cool.
    It's the same idea that Chocolateers use to help their tempered chocolates cool cleanly. They call it "Seeding."
    Basicly. The solid structure acts as a catalyst to begin the crystasis, and subsequently also acts as a scaffolding for the formation of new crystals...
    Next time, try leaving something metal in the liquid bismuth as it slowly cools, pull the object out while the bismuth is still liquid. You'll find that the bismuth has formed crystals on the surface of the object.

  • @joshp6061
    @joshp6061 ปีที่แล้ว +62

    You want the bismuth to cool and freeze as slowly as possible to get the largest and best looking crystals. A great way to help that is to wrap the pot or pan in aluminum foil to contain the heat and let it cool more slowly

    • @connor_ono3611
      @connor_ono3611 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I use a small pot so I can let it cool nestled down in hot sand in a bigger pot. The crystals grow great from the surface downwards, but I'm not good at extracting them in one piece yet.

    Oh yay I asked you to make bismuth crystals so long ago! By the way the rainbow color is from various bismuth oxides forming at different temperatures as it cools.
    Also, it forms that hopper squarish crystal structure because of bismuth’s unit cell which is rectangular, so it prefers to solidify into cubic shapes

    A suggestion , when making your sand molds you use small pieces of wood to create the channels as I would make it more secure than when spooning out the channels & and extra piece of the mold falls off .

      Yes it’s a shame I didn’t do some research before I tried it but I’ll definitely be trying to make a nice big crystal again in a future video👍🏻

    Wow, the oxide colouration is amazing. Kinda makes me wanna get some bismuth and try this myself in my forge....

    Wow bismuth is a cool looking metal and the way it solidifies into squares is fascinating. So 31kg to go almost there I wonder what you will do than sell it all or aim for two ton either way I look forward to the next video 👍🏻😊😄
