    And my James Bond journey has begun! If you missed it in the opening, I HAVE seen the Daniel Craig films and love most of them but I have not seen any of the other Bonds. I really enjoyed this film and seeing James Bond saying all his iconic lines for the first time was super cool!
    Thanks for watching! Have a great day! :)

      You'll find the first 3 films (Dr. No, From Russia with Love, and Goldfinger) take steps to figuring out "the formula." You'll see From Russia with Love add a theme song that goes with the film, Goldfinger has the iconic villain and the Aston Martin - things that have become part of the formula afterwards. These films were so popular at the time, they made the first 4 films in 4 years. Dr. No cost 1 million dollars at the time and made nearly 60 million globally. That's 530 million USD in today's dollars. Goldfinger and Thunderball, the 3rd and 4th Connery films both broke the 1 billion USD after inflation. Imagine if someone made 4 films in 4 years today, costing less than 100 million to make and earning over 3 billion.

    In the book, Bond has to give up his Beretta because it got caught in his holster in the book From Russia With Love. But they filmed the books out of order and that scene is in the next movie.

    Felix Leiter is played by Jack Lord, who was the star of the original Hawaii 5-0, but also starred in Stoney Burke, where he played a rodeo star. Lord was a noted egotist. He demanded co star credit to appear as Felix Leiter again in Goldfinger, so they recast him. He was the original choice to star in Star Trek, but he wanted 50% ownership so they went with William Shatner.
    Ursula Andress's Swedish accent was so thick, they had to dub her lines with another actress.

    I remember my parents talking about "That's Smith & Wesson - you've had your six" ( I wasn't old enough to see the movie). This was when they talked even more about: Have you heard the Beatles? They sing "yeah, yeah, yeah". That use of slang was a big thing apparently.

    I'm looking forward to your James Bond journey! 😎 👍
    Fun Fact: Sir Sean Connery is morbidly afraid of spiders. The shot of the spider in his bed was done with a sheet of glass between him and the spider, which can be seen in one shot in the movie. When this didn't look realistic enough, additional close-up scenes were re-shot with stuntman Bob Simmons. Simmons reported that the tarantula crawling over Bond was the scariest stunt he had ever performed. According to Steven Jay Rubin's book, Rosie was the tarantula's name.

    Sylvia Trench is practicing her putting in Bond's room to kill time while waiting to surprise him. Remember, she previously told Bond (edited out) that her hobby was playing golf. And here's a shout-out to Jack Lord (Felix Leiter), future star of the original and best Hawaii Five-0 TV series. Book 'em, Danno!

    Dr. No get's some criticism by newer Bond fans for it's slower pacing and also for some societal stuff that was more accepted in the 60s, like Bond telling Quarrel to get his shoes. It's obvious racism, but it was a different time period and from the original novels by Ian Fleming Bond has always been a more conservative character. The books were written in the 50s and early 60s btw. And Fleming himself was working for British Intelligence during WW2.

    In the very first movie, the Bond girls hierarchy is already established: Sylvia, the tertiary Bond girl you see 007 fools around with at the beginning before the actions begins. Miss Taro, the secondary Bond girl who is usually the villainess and in later films, the sacrificial lamb, and Honey, the lead Bond girl that James ends up in the finale.

  • @aaaht3810
    @aaaht3810 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good reaction. I think Dr. No has several scenes that defined 007: The casino scene with Sylvia, the mission briefing with M, the killing of professor Dent, and the dialog between Bond and Dr. No over dinner. By the way, the lady photographer was Marguerite Le Wars who was Miss Jamaica. And her weapon used against Quarrel was a flash bulb. Something with which younger people may not be familiar.

    There is a scene in Dr. No's lair were Bond comments on a painting - So that's were it went. The painting had not long been stolen and strangely enough there is a new film coming out called Duke which is the story of the actual man who stole the painting and why he did it (starring Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent).

    I love all the Bond actors and what they each brought to the role but Connery will always be the GOAT. Dr. No was very faithful to the book and the character.. The goofiest interpretations were the Roger Moore films.. --- While it was faithful to the book, the studio felt that Bond needed to be a little lighter and not as dark or cold blooded as this first movie...

      In this original movie, the score is by Monty Norman, which is why he is always credited as the creator of the James Bond theme. John Barry didn't come in until From Russia With Love. All credit to Norman for creating the theme, but I think John Barry is superior in knowing how to use the music to best effect. I notice that Barry changed the theme around a little. Originally, it built up to a climax, but Barry *started* with the climax on top of the gun barrel sequence.

    My top three are 1.)The Spy Who Loved Me 2.) Goldfinger 3.) From Russia With Love and I think Thunderball is really underrated. Craig doesn't impress me, or maybe its the dumb direction they took the franchise to. The first one he made was OK the rest are not Bind films IMHO.

    @suddenlyfrogs1906 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dr. No is a great start, though novel wise Casino Royale is the first story. Funnily enough Dr. No and From Russia with Love are canonically the other way round lol
    Oh and you've seen Jaws, right? A Young Robert Shaw (Quint) is one of the if not the key villain in the next one. I went decades without noticing pmsl.
    I agree Dr. No needed a little more, since his backstory is quite interesting. Chinese/German, His heart is on the RIGHT which saved his life after he was shot by the Triads (I think he lost his hands then too, I can't remember it's been ages since Ir ead the novel)
    Favourite Bond Movies, 1 per era.
    Thunderball from Connery
    On her Majesty's Secret Service from Lazenby (Only one but one of my absolute favourite Bond Movies)
    The Spy Who loved Me from Moore
    Both the Dalton Films :D I can't decide, but I prefer The Living Daylights theme music.
    Goldeneye from Brosnan
    Casino Royale from Craig. (Not much of a fan of the last 2 Craig films :( )

    7:50 Nothing suspicious about the woman taking a photo. Freelancers use to hang around in airports or restaurants at tourist destinations. They'd photograph anyone who came along and offer to sell them souvenir prints. No smartphones or digital cameras back then.
    There was nothing "goofy" about the rocket toppling. Spectre was using radio waves to jam the ground control, nothing to do with sound waves. The radioactivity was present simply because Dr No had a nuclear reactor on the island to supply power. Very often, negative reactions to movies like this are due to younger people today having no knowledge about the past, even the recent past.
    "Casino Royale", the first Craig Bond movie, is one of the best Bond movies, maybe even THE best. Unfortunately, the producers of the Craig movies only made one good film, in spite of the stratospheric budgets. "Skyfall", which is most people's favorite, is just sad. There's not one thing in that story that makes a lick of sense, the whole plot is pure stupidity. Even the popular (why?) theme song is a drab little thing, reminiscent of the "Diamonds Are Forever" theme with all the dynamism and musicality sucked out. None of this was Daniel Craig's fault, although he quickly got tired of the character, just as Connery did.

Doctor No was the first movie although it was the 6th novel while Casino Royale was the first novel so the order of novel film is really staggered. This one is one of personal favorites though I've never made a worst to best lust of Bond films although I know what would lead and what would be last. Dr. No would be in the top 10 for sure though.

    Omg, you even did the intro! I love this, haha. Get ready for me likely writing a lot and fairly lengthy comments. If you loved Daniel Craig as Bond, I think you're really gonna enjoy the movies that George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton did. They can in some ways be seen as predecessors to Craig in terms of a more emotional, gritty Bond.
    I recently went on a whole monologue on Twitter about how the early James Bond movies were pretty much the first real modern day action films. This one had a budget of 1 Mil back then, which would amount to 9 Mil dollars today. So a fairly small budget that would increase a lot with subsequent films.
