- HAPPY NEW YEAR Everyone! 2021 was a great year for me living and traveling full time in my 20+ year old truck camper. There were so many "firsts"! In this video I share some thoughts on 2021 and the New Year 2022. This is followed by an absolutely beautiful video retrospective from some of my adventures in 2021. Thank you all so much for your support in 2021!! I may be biased, but I believe I have the best viewers on TH-cam! :) Cheers to new adventures and a happy and healthy New Year!

My wife and I have been so inspired by your videos that we bought a Sprinter van last summer and remodeled it into a camper. Took it on a shake down cruise to Western Montana in October to visit her family and had a ball.
Retired now we can travel freely. Planning more trips west this summer. Maybe see you on the road. Keep making videos. They give us old folks hope for adventures of our own. 😎🇺🇸

I have also found the same about not making concrete plans. It is so much easier and less stressful when you just go with the flow and allow the weather to steer your course. I have friends that always want to make such a structured vacation and then are disappointed when not all goes as planned. Enjoy your travels!

Happy New Year Catherine....oh my gosh, what a fantastic compilation of some of the highlights of your 2021!!! I didn't realize White Sands is SOOOO white! It's mind-bending to see it and remind myself I'm looking at sand because I live in Ontario (Canada) where we have white stuff from Halloween to Easter sometimes but it's snow haha! I believe you have loyal subscribers (me included) because you're vlogs are so visually beautiful but also very serene and calming, and the past two+ years have been very turbulent so it's lovely to lose ourselves in your videos. I hope you don't mind me asking this....I'm curious....what brand of hiking shoes do you wear? Once I start my tiny-home-on-wheels adventures (fingers crossed for summer 2022) I will be doing A LOT of hiking too. Also, out of curiosity, do you have a fitness tracker? Happy New Year, Catherine. Make it a wonderful year, something you have to do yourself, sometimes restricted by rules and regulations, sometimes because of the weather, sometimes because of others. Keep on doing what you want to do, being free on the road, living a wonderful life.
I completely agree with you that making plans in advance restrict your freedom. When we rented our first RV in 2008 we did book all the campgrounds in advance to make sure we would have a place to stay. It meant we had to be there even if we wanted to stay somewhere else a day longer, or we would have paid for nothing. The second time (2011) we didn't do that. We booked the first campground and from there, one evening in advance, we booked the next for so many days. This so we were sure we had a place to stay and we didn't have to start searching in the afternoon already. It felt so much better this way, it felt free. We did the same in Canada in 2015 when we drove from Toronto to Vancouver.
You say you maybe want to go to Canada. Well, do yourself a favor and stay in the western part. You love Colorado so you love the Rockies, they are amazing. But also the Vancouver area is fantastic.

I Got Emotional whilst watching the few Minutes of the Trek Through Yosemite, and can never get Tired of Seeing just How Beautiful & Majestic the Landscape.
Beautifully done. Your music is so beautiful that any stress I may be feeling just melts away; almost brings me to tears. For several months now I have occasionally seen your videos pop up on my TH-cam page as being potentially of interest. "She seems interesting. I'll have to check her out sometime". But I'd forget. Finally, your backpacking trip into the John Muir Wilderness came up yesterday and really caught my attention as I did that trip in 1980. Just loved it so watched a few more. Going to watch, as a minimum, all your 2022 & 2021 adventures. So excited as I just finished watching every video done by The Adventures of A&K and wanted a new inspirational channel for planning my next adventures. I'm solo woman traveler and disbursed car camper whose passion is high altitude hiking in the Eastern Sierra so really looking forward to discovering new hikes for 2023. 🥰

I will also say while I know you love the West and all the fantastic scenes you come across there, you are doing yourself a disservice by ignoring the NP in the East like Great Smokey Mountain National Park. There are others also and two of them quite long...The Natchez Trace, 444 miles long and the Blue Ridge Parkway NP which is 469 miles long with trails all along the way on both. Then there is Acadia NP in Maine, Shenandoah NP in Virginia, Congaree NP in South Carolina, New River Gorge in West Virginia, not to mention some in Florida. To me Banff NP in Canada is a must see at some point. Just a little food for thought...have a blessed year!!!

I visited a bunch of walking trails and parks in Fl and Ga.
No hard target for this year...yet....but started with a road trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Winter storm chased me off the mountain...it happens.

First off, I’ve only been watching maybe a week or so. So?
Alaska.
Not NEAR the grandeur and beauty as you’ve just posted on here. NOT on your dime. The only way I’d go to Alaska overland is if I had a bundle of money to spend on guided boat, float plane, even outward bound lodges before I’d consider such a trip. From California to Washington state, I look back this second proclaiming I should have stopped right there. Exploring the rain forest is truly amazing and way way more cheaper and fulfilling than spending hours on the Alcan highway. Its pretty much all touristy crap now. Floods of people all compete for any and every RV slot and parking spot. I was there in 2000, I got fed up with it. Videos I see now assure me NEVER to even consider saving the amount of money I’d need just to buy diesel fuel alone!
Cath, do your own research, The real beauty is off the highway. Very few roads exist your camper can traverse for very long. Besides, Alaska thrives on boat and small airplane travel. Even helicopter is popular. You milage many vary.

Happy New Year Cat, a wonderful look back at 2021. Let's hope you can make the Alaska trip this year. When coming through Alberta spend some time in the area between Banff and Nordegg. There are incredible day hikes, waterfalls and overnight hiking trails to explore, I have done many of them. Where ever the road takes you in 2022 I will enjoy watching all the adventures. I hope you have a splendid New Year filled with all your amazing journeys. Might I ask of one suggestion you may want to consider in adding to your post, the exact GPS settings of the location, trailhead, campsites, etc. that your at so we can easily find the same spot with those beautiful views you post. For example, at 11:07 you set up camp at what "GPS coordinates"? You could post special locations with their GPS and could get to the same spot! I subscribe to another site, SUV RVing and he post all the GPS locations, I think it's great to know them. Anyhow Cat, keep on trekking while trucking!

Happy New Year of adventures to you too! Great video recap of 2021. Brought back a lot of memories. So glad you had a shot of your campsite in the Alabama Hills, I was afraid Mt. Whitney and the Sierras didn't make the cut, I just had to wait until fall. Catherine, my wife and I were wanting to start a video blog this spring but have no idea what to purchase. If possible I would like to ask what camera, computer and editing software you use. I get lost reading about everything that's available. At least I would know we wouldn't be wasting our money if I could get a head start by knowing what you recommend. Sorry, we're in our 60s and have been married 48 years, so we are starting kinda late and need all the help we can get. Thanks so much, Cynthia and Jim
