Fitting crash protection to my new MT09-SP.

  • The first thing to get going with my MT09 was crash protection!
A whole bunch of R&G. I hope this wasn't as boring to watch for you as it was to me... Tried my best to cut it down and speed bits up.
Didn't quite go as planned because my camera had other ideas but the next video of fitting something will be much better and more informational as I planned because I will be more prepared!
R&G are going to send me a selection of stickers for the casings.
I will try to do a separate video on the tail tidy because the video was already too long, haha!
    Camera angles weren't great either...
Believe me I am my worst critique haha.
    Ohwell!
    Thanks for watching!

I agree tank protectors don't go very well and too many RG Logos, but the bike is looking fantastic, looking forward to tail tidy and nice to see Dad helping .... Stay safe.

Nice work PistonHeadChaz I only have one piece of advice which you will only really appreciate in later life. The way you're cracking torqued up factory tight bolts will seriously injure your wrists. It's definitely not because you're a girl that I'm offering this advice, I see guys making the same mistakes too.
The best way to open stiff bolts and nuts is to use your weight to push down on whatever leverage you're using. And note that you're actuslly using a shorter ratchet than your torque wrench. Most 3/8 and 1/2" ratchets are fairly short (this is to prevent people applying too much tightening force), though 1/2" are a bit longer. But a longer freeing bar always makes the job easier.
So, if you angle a 1/2 ratchet (with a 3/8" reducer if you're using 3/8 sockets) horizontally and then press down using your weight to free the bolt, you won't be straining your wrists, and the job will be a lot easier.
Otherwise, I'm very impressed by your work. And that's a nice looking bike. I'm a Honda and Bultaco guy, but I have mates who love Yammies. Watch out for the bolts rusting. It seems to be a common problem theses days.

Quick tip, to make it easier for you breaking nuts and bolts free, aim the force you’re applying down toward the ground where possible, also very nice vid and good choice on the bike too 😊

Be careful, it looked like you well overtightened that first bolt, the torque wrench clicked and you kept going, those engine covers and cast alloy frame will easliy crack if you overtighten things.

Watch out with those frame sliders. I had those on my MT and after about 10.000km the bolt snapped and I had to leave the bike at the shop so they could take the whole engine down to remove it. It left me with a huge bill. Just keep an eye and make sure the bolts are properly adjusted through time
