Thank you David, Jordan, Scott and Kory for yet another great pod. cheers.
Harkening back to the start of the Cretien era, and the prosperity all of Canada enjoyed for over 2 decades following the oil sands accord, Smith has proposed uniting Canada with national projects like coast to coast oil and gas pipelines and doubling oil sands production. The silence from the Liberal leadership candidates is deafening;-)
I agree however Albertan leadership of all stripes need to be held accountable for not building a sour crude refinery to maximize oil revenues.
from one old Curmudgeon to another well said. 70 years have I been Canadian and the last 9 years under Trudeau were more damaging to Canadian oil and gas than the years under Trudeau senior. Their preoccupation with climate hysteria hobbled the oil sector and is the root cause for our problems today.
There are precious few times when I can agree with Jordan. The mention of Dolly Parton’s b-day is one.
Enjoyed your live Saskatoon event. Thanks for a great weekly show.
Thanks to Danielle smith Governor of the Great 51st of Alberta
Daniellle thinks she's Texas, but in fact she's Canada’s very own Arkansas
@@handlewithcare50 Canada's Arkansas is supporting the rest of Canada, also Alberta's GDP more then double Arkansas but wouldn't expect a liberal to know facts, it's a fact liberals don't know much
Great Pod as usual. I hear the "We get it, Alberta has been screwed" comments but I don't think many in the political class truly understand how deep it goes. First off "The West" goes from the boarders of Winnipeg , to Vancouver. Bilingualism is imposed here , not embraced. Equalization payments are highly resented, many people work in the resource economy. Liberal Gun confiscation has severely angered many , pipelines are not controversial here and Carbon taxes are highly despised. National unity is about to be tested and two fault lines are clear in Canada right now. Odds of the country being in its current configuration in 20 years is about 50-50 IMHO.
...agree, except for your last sentence...don't forget the history goes both ways, there have been times when the west has lived on profits made in the east...everyone gets screwed sometimes, witness the Atlantic provinces, particularly Newfoundland
@@handlewithcare50 I agree ,everyone takes it on the chin from time to time. But I stand by my statement. I believe if the PQ get elected in Quebec, (they are leading in the polls). and they hold another referendum, as promise, things will be very different this time in The West. There is ZERO appetite in Western Canada for any concessions to Quebec, in fact there is a high level of hostility. I can foresee a badly handled response to Trumps tariffs, anger in Alberta, and another PQ referendum causing Confederation to look very different in 20 years. Like I wrote my bet is 50-50
The west wants out.
Listening to people who have been supporting/cheering on Trudeau becaues he's a Liberal talk about the 'National Idea' but never blasted him for talking about Canada being a post-national state is pretty fucking rich.
💯
Sorry they didn't specifically call out Trudeau by name, and just called out that specific idea from the federal government. This show isn't as old as those comments. If they were I can bet you they would have called them out specifically. Sorry if someone saying that everyone who thinks 2+2=5 is an idiot isn't good enough for you, you need them to say that everyone and specifically Trudeau who thinks that 2+2=5 is an idiot. Maybe if you need that egregiously specific language it's a you problem.
👏🏻👏🏻
No one on this panel understands the oil industry. If Canada cuts off oil to the US or has export taxes applied the US will get the oil they need from other countries and there will be no comeback from that. Alberta would have zero customers for our oil. That would kill Alberta and would do massive damage to Canada.
Jordan smirking during the reading of the energy program is the reason why the ndp will never take root. When the west separates she won’t understand why - but she’ll be the reason.
Interesting conversation! You guys want Alberta to agree and get on board with export tariffs on oil? How about all the provinces and feds green light energy east and northern gateway as Alberta’s buy in. All in this together right? It’s an emergency right? Team Canada right?
As an Albertan I didn’t really enjoy all the Alberta bashing…haha. I agree that Mr. Trudeau should sit out of the discussion. Mr.Leblanc was on Rosie Barton and was specifically asked about Danielle Smith and he was so reasoned and thoughtful with his response. He could be the answer to a united front.
Didn’t know anyone under 75 still watched the good ole CBC
You still think Liberals need to be involved at all. How much pain do you enjoy?
Jordan, it may well be fall 2026 before an election as Singh is saying that being on "Team Canada" more important than an election. Imagine Canada being governed by unelected cadre comprised of Carney, Telford and Butts.... it is a nightmare scenario.
Singh said he’ll topple government at earliest opportunity.
When pigs fly.
@@bytownbylaw Singh flip flopped yet again. Shouldn't be a surprise.
The worst part of Carney is he’s running off a record of “success” that the majority of Canadians never felt.
2008 was painful for many Canadians - especially millennials who faced big unemployment numbers, stagnant wages, and rising housing costs.
Who felt good about most of Carney’s “successes” - the very wealthy people at the top, that likely want him as the PM now.
For average, run of the mill people- he’s the candidate that seems obscene. Just obviously the worst potential candidate for this moment in time.
Mark doesn’t hang out with us commoners. Most politicians don’t. We’re the lowest classes, the unclean
Older generations and the laptop class should be very careful about engaging in a long and proactive trade war. The recent affordability crisis is being felt harder the younger generation. Recent polling is showing a massive drop of Canadian patriotism among the younger generations. The younger generation would also be shouldering this trade war. So given recent affordability and patriotism concerns, its something to think about.
When you have nothing, you have nothing to lose.
@@bytownbylawwe'd have plenty to lose!! Post-nationalism, equalization payments, land acknowledgements, DEI, open borders, unveted refugee claimants, bilingual hiring mandates, supply management....how on earth would we fill the void 💀

Last comment...do more events like Saskatchewan! It was great! Thanks folks, it's a treat to have a cursed coffee with you every week
Jordan, as if 10 years of suffering under Justin Trudeau wasn't bad enough, now you advocate even more suffering as a way to unite Canada? ROTFLMAO.
Talking about a shortage of doctors and not a single word about off the rails immigration. So out of touch.
Wasn’t immigration supposed to solve skilled professional shortages ? 😂
@@bytownbylawlol yeah obvs the best timbit and ice cap manufacturers are trained abroad 💀
@@bytownbylawFor every 100,000 UberEats drivers we get one doctor these days.
Carney doesn’t seem to be getting high praises from people and the politicians in the UK. But hey, I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about.
He is not getting high praise from the people who wanted Brexit. He was right Brexit has not been good for England. Look at the source of the comments to see if there is any validity.
Doug Ford said he would ban American wine from the LCBO, and said his subjects should be drinking Ontario wine.
If he was Canada first, he’d allow BC wine to be sold in the LCBO.
💯
The LCBO does seem to sell BC wine, I looked it up and got a couple results. He likely just wanted to emphasize the Ontario wine industry which is fairly large. Yeah he could have said Canadian wine, but I wouldn't say that is a point against him being Canada first. That's like your looking for something to attack someone with and cherry picking something just to try and make a point.
@@Gronmin The lack of market access for BC Wines in Ontario is a on going issue.
If Doug is Captain Canada, he needs to explain why emphasized that LCBO customers need to consume more Ontario Wines, and not Canadian Made Wines.
@@Niko-iv4ch the lack of market access between provinces for all products is an on going issue. One the Trudeau government is trying to address right in their discussions about preparing for the Trump tariffs. Minus Alberta from that I guess because their premier didn't want to show up
I love the show... this one aged so quickly though 😂
I really do hate that it's a reality in Canadian politics that if anyone in Canada gets a non perfect deal it's Ontario's fault no matter what. I get to sit here as an Ontarian and be ignored by not just my provincial politicians but also consistently attacked/blamed by the federal ones. While the federal politicians bend over backwards for Quebec or "the west" aka Alberta, outside of the rare hey lets show up in Windsor for the auto sector or the show up to the city of Toronto to do something for them (or people who commute there) and say some nice words so we can go back to ignoring Ontario. The most a non local politician has ever done to try to advertise to people in my area is Trudeau who showed up to a parade and then left, never came back and forgot us. Despite us being such a large percentage of the population it feels insane that so many people in Ontario are not just ignored but blamed by the rest of the country. And if we aren't being blamed it's always a wait on your issues for something for Quebec or Alberta, or this niche thing for select people in Toronto. Because either we want Toronto votes or Quebec/Alberta need this or they might rage and leave Canada.... also anything that might address you needs to be overhauled in order to better fit Quebec with infinite exemptions for them until it doesn't happen cause it takes to long because of Quebec or it gets voted down by Quebec anyways
The idea we can involve ourselves in a prolonged trade war with America is laughable. Kory can you get Dougie to call the election asap. His captain Canada schtick is wearing a little thin. At this point I agree, with Scott and Jordan, he is in it for himself.
We have a lack of leadership from coast to coast to coast, all political parties.
We’ve never been weaker in my lifetime at minimum
Wow - great discussion today but horrible Carney and Freeland launches
Kory, what Smith is warning about when she says an export tax would trigger a national unity crisis, is that it would trigger a demand from Albertans for a referendum on separation. I say, bring it. Vive L' Alberta Libre.
Export taxes on oil and gas won’t fly in Alberta. Try it and Alberta will separate from Canada.
Carney cannot relate to average voters that are struggling financially
Eg his Bank of England job he was renting a 27,000 pound a month mini castle..... same with Trudeau neither have had to struggle & hope they have enough groceries til payday..... biggest problem in my opinion
He’s running to be PM, if only for a day. Easiest way to get the top job and that’s his MO
None of them can. PP has been making an MP’s salary since he was practically a child and currently lives in Stornaway rent free.
@@adamb1229 this I don’t get re: criticizing elected office. Politicians have to sing for their supper every 4 years or less. Pierre’s riding isn’t solid Blue, it’s in Liberal Ottawa. Elections, while having rebates, are expensive.
Every opposition leader and PM live rent free so that criticism makes no sense. We don’t want experience but then we do? People wanted Dominic Leblanc to run for Liberal leader mostly due to his experience but Pierre’s experience isn’t the right kind?
So how much is PP struggling. He has had a cushy salary his whole adult life. He is worth 11 million so not exactly the same as the rest of us
Mark Carney went to Harvard on a hockey scholarship. Chrystia Freeland & Karina Gould also attended Harvard. Carney & Freeland attended Oxford as well. Carney met his wife at Oxford.
Chrystia Freeland’s daughter hit it out of the ballpark. Someone on X said he is voting for her
Get well wishes for your son Scott
Hey Jordan, How’s that “Hey you” from last week looking? Sounds like if it weren’t for Smith we would already have the tariffs.
We need an election immediately as Trump has no desire to work with anyone in the Liberal party.
She won’t see this, she’s too busy thinking about Jagmeet Singh and the Khmer Orange😂
February 1st for Mexico & Canada as per Trump. Smith made zero effect on Trump.
@@bytownbylaw sure just negate the last part of what I said. Trump basically gave us two weeks to sort our shit out. The pressure is on. When’s the election coming?
When a reporter told him what PP said he said WHO and then said I’m not interested
@@pt93music you deleted your obsolete comment, cool
So what makes Danielle Smith different from Andrew Furey and Lana Payne?
I don't know where I fall on the Danielle Smith question, but saying that she is the primary actor weakening the Canadian response to Trump is outrageous!
We have the most lame duck possible PM and a prorogued parliament. Even worse, Trump personally loathes the PM and one of the two candidates to replace him (Freeland). This is cooked up in a lab to make us as vulnerable as possible!
All of this because Trudeau and Singh refused to put country over their own interests (being in charge / pension, respectively) and their parties refused to do their jobs and hold their leaders accountable.
Trudeau should have resigned after St. Paul's. When he didn't, his party should have forced him out then. Singh should have called an election in the fall. When he refused, his party should have demanded it. And it was totally imperative for all parties - once the danger of Trump to cross border trade was clear - to make sure that Canada had an election before January 21st so that we would have a functioning government with a mandate.
"We'll help you and support you!" (after nixing Energy East)
Sour crude refineries in Alberta, otherwise nothing will change.
Pipelines don’t maximize oil profits and Alberta deserves the most money for its resources, which it happily shares with the rest of Canada like the true patriots Albertans are.
145+ years left at 3.3 million barrels a day for Alberta’s key resource. We still have time but private money won’t build it alone. Canada & Alberta need a plan. Sadly no politician has one.
Carla Beck Herle Burly interview coming??? Would love that!!!
Buncha kids, can't stay off your phones.
Freeland has a voice for print - ugh. I went and watched that speech, it was awful.
Looks like Danielle Smith knew something nobody else did............
Smith knew nothing. Tariffs coming in 2 weeks.
Alberta energy isn't yours ITS ALBERTA"S hands off GUYS. Where was team Canada during C-69, Keystone XL, Energy East. PS you guys don't have a clue about negiations.
makes one look forward to next week!
You know Kory loved David's joke directed at the NDP at 37:20
Albertans have no reason to believe in Team Canada when it comes to our core commodities like oil.
Is/was there a provincial level pan-Canadian conservative coalition? Provincial and federal politics are different games.
Realizing you couldn’t forecast how things would go today, it’s too bad you didn’t hold the POD for 24 hours…
When is Kory going to work on the Ford campaign? Everyone knows it's coming.
Kathrynne Winne suggested a province by province inventory.

As far as the Liberal race is concerned, .....Dominic Leblanc where art thou?
What it Trudeau or Telford that arranged the protesters at Freeland's announcement to run for leader?
😂 would anyone be shocked?
I had the exact same thought. Telford and Trudeau are as slimey as snakes.
Good stuff!
She stopped his 25/10% tariffs, hopefully she talks to Trump appointees like kids…
Kory, David, now I am very interested in learning more about Karina Gould. You decided to rudely dismissive of Karina.
Last night my spouse told me he had done his research and had watched Karina Gould videos in the House. He loves her, thinks she is best suited to take on PP. I know it's anecdotal but it took me 20 years to get that Young Conservative to Liberal and he thinks her portrait should be on PM wall. I won't repeat what he said about Carney.
Weren’t talking about the same Karina Gould right? You’ve got to be kidding me.
She’s incorrigible. She also tried to erase the Nazi visit from Hansard. Hard pass. She’s a Karen.
Well she both hugged a Nazi in the house of commons. And then embarrassed, she tried to get the entire day erased from the house of commons history. 😂 She is a 60 year old in a 35 year old body.
The two liberal pundits don’t understand Alberta…at all. Get rid of wing nut Geebo and things would change for the better.
Yeah, it's so easy to save two economies. LMAO. No stress there.
It is a good thing Freeland's kids are still young kids. Their delivery was way too similar to their mother's and they probably would have been ridiculed if they weren't minors and thus not fair game.
What does economist Richard Woolf say about northernmost Canada/USA-CENTRAL vs Mexican Border.
Well what does he say? This is the comment section, not the question one...
Actually, Alberta has been Liberal red - it had three Liberal premiers from 1905 to 1921.
Freeland, Gould, Carney as Interim Leadership Team.
Has anyone on Curse of Politics read Ford Nation or looked at the Fifth Estate invesigation? Also Mary Trump on her uncle and the Trumps. Think of Team Ford's obsession with alcohol.
