I love this daily thing. Time to keep this permanent. Really want it daily.
Scott doing his best Admiral Akbar "it's a trap!" 11:00 or so in
I still think the hot mic thing is all a genius plan by Kory.
LOVE all the different perspectives! Thank you for getting up early to make this happen.
You guys! From New Brunswick - YOU ARE THE BEST!!
You guys are all so awesome! Why can't our federal leaders be as smart as you 4!
Ferguson in 1929 won 90 of 112 seats with 56.7% of the vote. That was the last time anybody got 50% or more in Ontario.
Sask guy here with family in the gta. I was down by the shores and chatting with people. The disdain for the liberal brand caught me off guard. I've been going there for 12 years and the place has changed - for the worst. The people have had enough.
Watched a few clips of the Carney presser. His messaging is similar to the Liberals of the last 10 years while at the same time its very low energy. From what I've seen so far his political skills aren't there.
You nailed it. Everything about him Mr. 2015.
Back then Davos was in style. He is talking about Carbon Tariffs, which is so 2015. He likely is still anti-pipeline which is hard to believe given the Trump tariff threat and Putin using oil as a political tool.
He’s yesterday’s man.
@@Niko-iv4ch Yes the race on the whole has been less than exciting . Given the party is the Trudeau Liberal party, it could be 1 or 2 election cycles until the machinery of the party are completely gutted and a new course is taken.
CARNEY is just like Justin, but not as charismatic.
I thought "Gary" was gone, but it's hiding at 24:00. Get rid of "Gary!"
It's kind of remarkable how many people don't know who Mike Schreiner is, because he's been the green party leader for, what, over a decade? Great guy. He helps get bills through, regardless of who's in power.
Party leaders become well-known when their party beneath them is strong enough to get public attention. Like Elizabeth May he has run his own Green party in a top-down anti-grassroots manner, and overseen internal institutional decline though unlike E-May he does not have the benefit of Queen's Park being a focus of national media.
I explained this at length in my recent blog, "Ontario Greens are doomed for another electoral disappointment in 2025."
@ thank you so much for linking to that blog post, I learned a lot. I voted green last election because, as you said they allowed them to take part in public debates. I had no illusions of them gaining much ground, but I couldn't get behind any of the other 3 local MPP's at that time.
Great podcast! Everybody brings great insight. I wish it was daily all year round. Deb is a great addition. Get Kory on Herle Burly when this election is over.
I'm shocked people would actually consider voting Liberal after the last 9 years, and this is obviously anecdotal, but even people in my life, who were done with Trudeau, are all of a sudden getting more negative on Poilievre and talking about voting for Carney. So I think it's smart to pivot
As a right-wing guy sympathetic to Trump who thinks Doug is a fake conservative- I think it might be an intentional hotmic to throw a bone to people in my region. "Hey guys I'm not anti-trump". Is that crazy? Either way, Scott's right and it doesnt hurt him
BTW I'm not one of those traitorous schmucks, I rooted for trump but am thoroughly pissed off by his little stunt
I am already standing in line to vote CPC. Been here since last fall. Pierre is the only hope for us. Carney is not going to be relatable to everday Canadians. He is too white collar and just not likeable enough.
What’s old school is this mentality to always go negative. What the liberals or ndp need to do is actually announce some policy. I know it sounds crazy, but the kids like policy not rhetoric. Actually propose something people can get excited about. They are already too focused on Ford as it is. Announce some stuff I as a voter might actually like to see. Give me a reason to vote
Scott the liberals are a dark place
The NDP cutting Sarah Jama to me made me start to take them seriously as a party. It showed that they were willing to differentiate themselves from the more crazy activist portions of their party/supporters and treat things seriously and reasonably. The NDP keeping her around as long as they did, does give me some pause to that but I do understand that removing someone from your own party would be a hard thing to decide to do. If they hadn't cut Sarah I'd put the NDP in the group of at best they are trying to flirt with extreme radicals to get their vote, and a party that shouldn't even be looked at or considered by anyone.
Jama made the error after the October 7th attacks of making comments that could be interpreted as insinuating non-verbal support for Hamas. It was a mistake in judgment, but the reaction was overblown. Her persecution was divisive because she and her supporters never acknowledged that she ever made any mistake, whereas all the supporters of her persecution never reconsidered how absurd it is to police and persecute someone for non-verbal hints.
The NDP Leader's decision to expel Jama was obviously rushed and done without much review or consultation, which is why the party worked itself into the knot of the party waffling between having the careful consideration it should have had and yet having its reputation already invested in her expulsion.
@stefanklietsch5500 uh no, in May of 2023 she retweeted a post calling a terrorist a martyr (probably should have been kicked then, but okay). Then in October she made that statement, then made a half hearted apology and left the statement up and pinned on her profile. Not deleting it right away after people critized the post for antisemitism (and I mean many MPPs including Ford). The NDP then waited until the censure cote to remove her, a whole two weeks later. If you think she was being persecuted for non-verbal hints your probably the lind of person who says that white nationalists are unfairly called neo-nazis
@@Gronmin You mean a suspected terrorist. I don't know the merits or not of her celebration of the man, but she obviously did not believe Israeli charges against the man in question.
There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the explicit content of what Jama said after October 7th. Supporting a ceasefire and opposing the oppression of Palestinians remain mainstream Canadian positions. But her statement omitted condemnation of Hamas atrocities in the immediate wake of those atrocities, and that statement was the prime factor in her being persecuted. So yes, it was about the non-verbal tone of her communications.
@stefanklietsch5500 first the person was a spokesperson for the PIJ which Canada has listed as a terrorist group, so at best they were a spokesperson for a terrorist group not a suspected terrorist. Second she continued to refuse to condem Hamas and take down her post after being asked to and yes this was before she was removed from the party. In addition she went on to sign an open letter denying that Hamas raped Israeli women during the attack. Yes she eventually removed her name from the letter but do we really need to go back and try to justify this persons actions as totally not intentionally leaving out Hamas right after their massive terrorist attack against Israel. If it wasn't intentional she would have actually apologized and pulled her statement, maybe she eventually could put up a better one but come on.
Also supporting the oppression of Palestinians has never been mainstream in Canadian politics. At best you might be able to say uncaring but supportive? This is like Tucker Carlson saying Russia actually isn't bad level of delusion and revision of history.
@@Gronmin Probably in Sara Jama's mind she has no special obligation to condemn Hamas because she has never explicitly supported the group in any way, and it's okay in her mind to selectively prioritize certain human rights issues without addressing all of them. There is no evidence that she meant anything hateful by any of her communications. That does not excuse her mistakes of judgment, but these are not mistakes of judgment that warrant systematic and overblown persecution.
Federally, gimme $100 and I’m betting on Conservative minority (good odds I’d presume)
I see depressed NDP vote + Liberal fortunes improving in GTA
Hey David, loving the old Scuderia Ferrari hat. That looks like its from the Schumacher era. Never took you as a F1 fan. Hopefully they have a good run this year. I really love hearing these daily discussions. I've generally been supportive of the conservatives but I cant bring myself to vote blue after their failure on housing. At ford-fest in KW a few years ago he promised us all a ground level house for 500k with a finished basement we could rent out. The housing affordability needle hasnt moved, even out in the sticks where I live, in a city of 30,000 over 200km away from toronto, homes arent affordable.
OMG, Deb, You’re Pro-Trump? And willing to admit it right now. Wow! Any party or leader that is pro-Trump will never, ever, get my vote.
I love Trump. Today he banned creeps from women's sports. How can you not love him?
Glad you got rid of AI Gary
Oh no, he's 24 minutes in. Hope this wasn't Todd's idea.
They didn't, it comes up again at 24:00 mark
