I will never forgive Pikmin 4 for not bringing them back. PUFFSTOOLS ARE IN THE GAME! Puffmin are literally the only reason people care about the Puffstool
People never cared about the Puffstool so much as they did its main mechanic of converting your pikmin. It was such a baffling decision to bring this enemy back while simultaneously removing the only thing that ever made it interesting to begin with. It can't even harm you or your pikmin anymore, it just makes them circle around itself to literally no effect. I see many people saying that the devs didn't do it because then they'd "have to create a puffmin model for every pikmin type", as though that's some sort of major development strain. Nevermind the fact that that's a complete fallacy, because they literally _don't_ have to do that and could have just converted all types into a generic puffmin (like they already did in Pikmin 1). The Puffstool's return was such massive wasted potential.
if puffmin get a dlc update it should appear in the basegame as well... same with the bulbmin.... buuuut bulb we don't really neeed buuuuut I'd love them regardless and in pikmin 4 seems reasonable to allow them to be wild pikmin type that sits in onions.
I think it’s interesting that out of the 3 “not min” puffmin aren’t even their own species, they’re just infected Pikmin unlike the Bulbmin are a parasite infecting a Bulborb and whatever the hell the Glowmin are. That being said I think they have some untapped potential maybe as some more new area specific mechanic, like Puffstool spores being part of a dungeon where most of the wild Pikmin you find inside the dungeon are puffized.
I've always thought that poison should, instead of just killing Pikmin, should additionally turn them into puffmin. It'd make poison as a hazard stand out and hazards have been continuously getting more and more tame so it'd be a neat addition.
Given the fact that the Puffstool in Pikmin 4 DOESN'T turn Pikmin into Puffmin and instead just hypnotizes them like the Groovy Long Legs, I don't have high hopes the Puffmin will be able to return. :(
1. Puffstool is so weak in 4 that he dosn't have drums while fighting, so he is not even a mini boss 2. Having to make new variants for rocks, ice and even PURPLES would be unncecery work since you would never see them anyway since how easy it to kill him to fast, so it makes sense to re-use groovy long legs gas 3. Toxtool is amazing and I hope that he will return in Pikmin 5 even withound regular one
i feel like making puffstool variants for every pikmin could be easy if the only changes were 1. mushroom cap instead of flower 2. sad eyes instead of the regular ones 3. texture swap for a puffed variant
@@arekrekas213 and new voices, and new special look for every pikmin like rock, that would end up like sputtlefish from 3, so much effort put to an enemy that you would never see unless you were standing still or in puffstol case slowly take all pikmin to the only puffstoll and let him attack ( o and I just wanna mention that In Dandori Battle's Pikmin don't even attack other pikmin or captain, only oatchi so tha's another -1 point for the Mushroom Pikmin )
@volvoman5262 i mean, i dont think it'd be much effort considering that they would be only unique by coloration, eye shape, and the cap, all of which could easily be universally swappable elements
btw, the unique mouth the puffmin had would be lost and all pikmin would retain their iconic features reds get noses, yellows get ears, purples are fat, rocks are rocks, ect.
My long standing theory for why Nintendo never brought Mushroom Pikmin back is because of two major things: 1: They probably don't want people being afraid of any Pikmin type, given how Pikmin's cuteness is often played up in advertising. 2: A mechanic that actively turns the units you use to interact with the game world is incredibly hard to balance. The Puffstool is a one trick pony. It'll potentially catch you in your first playthrough, but afterwards you know to avoid the spores at all cost, which isn't the hardest thing to do. You can potentially give more enemies the ability to turn Pikmin into Mushroom Pikmin but as some mods of Pikmin 1 that let other enemies use Puffstool spores show, it tends to result in disaster most of the time. It's not much of an easy fix by just giving you a grace period to whistle Pikmin back either. At that point it's basically just poison under another name. You can shorten the timer for it, but the sweet spot of making hazards like that dangerous but not cheap is something Pikmin has never been particularly great at, admittedly. (Too short in Pikmin 1, basically a non-issue Pikmin 2 onward.) I think the only way they can bring Mushroom Pikmin back is if they make them flatout an enemy you can't convert into normal Pikmin, as that allows them to better control how many of them you end up fighting at a time, and makes it so it doesn't take away your own Pikmin units in the process.
I absolutely love puffmin i would just play the challeng mode then get 100 and lay down and then they cant hurt you it was great i love them so much #bringbackpuffmin
I mean. I understand why they dont exist in pikmin 4. The puffmin are just pikmin that got infected. This works in pikmin 1 because all of the pikmin in pikmin 1 are all generally the same shape. So one model fits all. However in pikmin 4 we have all different shapes and sizes of pikmin. Something like a winged pikmin completely changing shape to a normal shaped pikmin wouldn't really make sense. So we would have to make a bunch of different types of puffmin. Which was probably too big of a task.
i can only wonder if some of the plot related elements of pikmin in pikmin 4 made puffmin not work lore wise, I also can imagine they didn't feel the need to add back a glitchy and mediocre mechanic if it can only be used by one enemy. like that bee bird bug in pikmin 3 is a like the puffstool but more interesting as it plays more with the evil pikmin you must fight.
Puffmin: exist in one game Bulmin: only playable in one game Pikpik carrots: playable in pikmin 2 and 3 (with hacks) Conclusion: *Pikpik carrots* >>>>> Bulmin >>> Puffmin
Yellow Puffmin are pretty useless then huh since you can’t throw or dismiss them you can’t even use the higher throws and I don’t think activate bomb rocks either if you pick them up
imagine a pikmin game where instead of being an explorer your a native to pnf-404 and play as a smaller more friendly version of a Puffman(of course like the leaflings they could easily reveal you were an infected captain the whole time)
Why does everyone see puffmin as a type. They were literally the result of a hazard which was the Puffstool’s spores and all they did was be annoying and attack you. Why would anyone want them back
No Cap, when I first played Pikmin 1 I never encountered Puffmin at all I just went after Puffstool and killed it, was very disappointed with it because I was just like “…That’s it?” But the Puffmin are interesting since it takes Toxic Gas to transform them since Spoiler for Pikmin 4: That’s the reason why Oatchi’s Tail changes from the Puff to a Leaf because it’s the Pikmin’s air gas *Not Spoiler section* So do the Pikmin change if they inhale different gas or is it a specific poison by the mushroom to make them change

I would love if Puffmin were changed or retconned so that they could feasibly be a usable pikmin type by a captain (since they're not a true pikmin type due to just being spore infected pikmin that are aggressive). Like if they were either a symbiote or a convergently evolved fungus species that acted like a pikmin rather than an enemy.

Nah, “Puffmin” are pointless other than aesthetics.

They were planned for 4 and just got entirely deleted.. So sad..
Pufmin are not a special type of pikmin, they are a purple coat of paint so the mushrommed affected keep there distinct pody parts

I’m surprised pikmin have never done something similar with your pikmin fighting you
DANDORI
Terrible dandori
That was not very dandori of you
Even pikmin in pikmin 4 Dandori battle doesn't even attack the main charactof
Pikmin only attack the dogs in dandori
Pikmin 3 vs mode lets pikmin beat the life out of the opposing captain(s)
actually there is one official piece of puffmin merch! a tiny little suction cup figure from a tomy blind box set

Puffmin are slated to return in Pikmin 8,000,000,011... its gonna be a while
It's weird that people keep treating Puffmin like their own species. They are just regular Pikmin with a skin disease.
