- Pikmin has had several different types throughout the franchise's history, but just how many are there? This Iceberg Chart will cover all of the Pikmin Types, even the ones Nintendo doesn't want you to see.

I remember playing Pikmin 6 in 2047. I'd always use the Luigi Pikmin against enemies and also played as the secret captain, Evil Olimar. Good times.
I get that Evil Olimar isn’t supposed to be a good person. But his remarks regarding the Balkans really have not aged well.
bro that was the good times man. now the new pikmin games have the boring stuff and weird stuff that are insanely op for some reason.
The boss fight with Mr. L min was the most climatic fight of the franchise. The way the dimensional rift open up and Mario stepped out and said “ you’re part of a bigger Nintendo franchise” and had super smash brothers Be cannon was absolute bonkers.

I would like to note that whenever the Pikmin 3 concept art talks about "building" they are specifically referring to the bridge/pot building mechanic introduced in Pikmin 3.
During early development the mechanic was a lot different and instead of carrying the bridge pieces to the location of the bridge like a line of ants, they would pick up the pieces and follow the captain around kinda like they did with bomb rocks.
It's worth noting that while Rock and Ice Pikmin are parasitic, they are still part of the Pikminidae genus like the other core Pikmin types, while bulbmin are part of the Parasiticus genus.
And their species is Pikminicus. I honestly think this was kinda a mistake??

@@apocalypseofplush Bulbmin were part of the Pikmin family, alongside all the other Pikmin, who only got scientific names in 4. While the Pikminicus species is a bit strange, they're were clearly distinguished at the genus level.
I think if they wanted to, Nintendo could have put rock and ice pikmin in the Parasiticus genus. Until bulbmin are in another game, and their scientific name changed, I'm assuming this is intentional.
At minimum though, they're recognized as different species, rather than subspecies, or even just different hosts like the moldy slooch.
@@nyon7209 These scientific names aren't meant to be taken that seriously (after all, the Watery Blowhog is explicitly a subspecies of Fiery Blowhog and yet has a whole different scientific name). The devs care about the creatures' families and whatnot, but the genera seem to be mostly decoration. Anyways, in Japan, the technical names for these Pikmin are basically "Parasitic Pikmin", "Rock Parasitic Pikmin" and "Ice Parasitic Pikmin", so there's clearly supposed to be a connection there.

My personal theory about candypop buds is that when a pikmin is left in the ground for too long they evolve into candypops
I thought this, but instead they become onions.

I never actually paid attention that Rock and Ice Pikmin were the parasitic Pikmin using Rocks and Ice for defense, and that they were called Hermikmin!

the amount of Pikmin types that could have been and might be is amazing there are a lot more that I originally though I knew about some scrapped ones and all of the ones we can use in game but some of these I have never seen. I feel that before they even think of adding some of these they should try and balance the old Pikmin types the balancing in each game gets worse and worse I hate to think about how awfully balanced they will be in Pikmin 5. Also would love to see more ice burg videos like this an idea I would suggest is unused content for the Pikmin series like Bulbmin in Pikmin 3 yellow bulborbs in Pikmin 2 and that weird thing that spits rocks that is left in the code of Pikmin 1.

My favorite moment in Pikmin was when I threw a red pikmin in a blue candypop bud. But then, Moss came by and said, “You’ll never be a blue pikmin.” Poor fella got wrecked by facts and logic.
I always thought pikmin was going for a child's first claymation aesthetic but Tim Burton's makes perfect sense. Gattling groinks design finally makes sense.

Also, I don't know if you take video ideas, but an cool idea this video gave me is the possibility of ranking every Pikmin's "best game" (ie, Purples being 2 and Rocks being 3, particularly 3 on the Wii U, since I've read they were nerfed in Deluxe. Idk if those are accurate, but those are just random examples.)

SInce you mentioned the Bulbmin-Bulblax swimming thing eventually making its way into Pikmin 4 with Oatchi, I also want to point that in the Dwarf Bulborb's piklopedia notes for Pikmin 3, Brittany suggests the idea of riding on its back, which I think may have been the inspiration for the other thing Oatchi does

I'm gonna guess thats from the Colossal caverns mod. Its essentially a single floor challenge to grab every treasure in the game, Theres tons of customization options and even a secret game mode, the password revealed to you after you beat the game.

Potentially but some people think they might be green. We will have to wait for Nintendo to confirm what the Parasite Pikmin look like to make a conclusion

The Bean Pikmins ability, Constructing Bridges and Ropes with their body’s, I think that was a theory (I think) in Pikmin 4 there’s a couple names in the files about some kinda pikmin projectiles maybe belonging too the bean pikmin because of the fact that they’re in the flies in the pikmin table.

If you're wondering, the idea of purple pikmin being black was scrapped because of possible...racial implications...that may come from it. Nintendo likely remembered a similar scandal with the Pokemon Jynx and were like "nope".
