I think the lifeguard ability is actually pretty underrated-- if you're in a cave and trying to deal with an enemy that calls for a certain type of pikmin, and they just happen to be near water, then you can toss a bunch of Blues willy-nilly into the water to create a pretty ironclad "safety net"; It can remove a lot of the confusion and stress from fighting enemies near water knowing you don't need to worry about whistling and throwing off your offensive flow if a few Purples fall in by accident when the enemy shakes them off or whatever

completely agree with most of this. i like pikmin 4, but its a game thats just "good" in a franchise full of "amazing" games. really disappointing.

Was expecting to give this video a lot of hate because I love Pikmin 4, but tbh I agree with all of your points. Didn't even make me mad. If anything it just got me more excited for the possibilities in a potential Pikmin 5. In 2023 I loved this game so much I literally thought to myself "I don't know how a sequel could top this, it's literally perfect." So the idea that there's room for improvement gives me relief more than anything 😅

Despite its flaws, i got enjoyment out of it. Ill probably never play it again for all the reasons you listed, but man. Heres hoping Pikmin 5 is better At least it was better than Hey Pikmin

Blue pikmin are OP. They're the only ones that can go into water and live. Plus the game is literally unbeatable without them.

I was playing Pikmin 2 as a kid with my neighbor all the time and I always imagined how good the series could be in the future. Its 2025 and I still think Pikmin 2 is my favorite game in the series. 4 Had so much potential because of how much it took after 2, but in almost every way in what it copied it just did worse

A very well thought out video explaining a lot of the issues with Pikmin 4. The game honestly feels so different from the other games that it almost feels like like a spinoff, like Hey! Pikmin. That may seem like an insane comparison, but when you see the differences in gameplay from Pikmin 4 to the rest of the franchise it really doesn't seem inaccurate. Some of the aspects added into the game had good intentions, but often times undermined what they were taking away in terms of difficulty and complexity. So much of what Pikmin as a franchise is is not present in this game. The storyline, gameplay loop, and controls feel very different from Pikmin 1, 2, and 3.

I do think Oachi was an interesting concept, but he was way too OP. My other main issue, was that I didn't like being restricted to only 3 Pikmin types on the field at a time. I personally thought it was just overall unnecessary

It seems to me that this is a practice across all Nintendo titles. Still, Pikmin 1 was the only one that really captured any kind of magic for me. 2 was neat to an extent. 3 was more or less boring with mostly the same stuff and nothing was too difficult. The only notable aspect of 3 was the boss. But of course you quickly realize red Pikmin will beat it relatively quickly. So I don't personally have any kind of delusions about Pikmin ever being like it was, the first time I played it. Which is really too bad. Nintendo is so afraid of making something difficult, or so they say anyway. When in reality, they're just planning to the lowest common denominator possible for the purpose of greed. This kind of mentality ends franchises because all those new customers will not be loyal. Until they find a way to attract whales to the title, that is. Which I'd imagine is the ultimate goal with watering down everything about Pikmin to nothing more than a dried out husk that's been baked on the surface of the sun. But in the very least, if they can attract whales, whales will eventually want higher difficulty and they'll get it, meanwhile anyone who doesn't throw their wallets at the game will suffer extremely. So the game will float in this strange place while feeding off whales for a while, until the whales move on or eventually expire. Any which way you slice it, the mentality reaches the same conclusion eventually without authentic efforts for growth and challenge. Granted we will most likely see this all come to fruition of the Switch 2.

I agree with most of your points, except kinda the music? The music in Olimar’s side mode is good, great even. The music in the main story is bland af though.
