The plastic under the seat is not a build issue. From the factory the seats are covered in plastic. The dealer is supposed to remove the plastic prior to delivery. If they don’t, then that isn’t the fault of the factory.

Complaints about drop gaps? This is crazy, I know - put your phone down and drive!! Have never had this problem in our 'ride because I leave the phone where it belongs when I'm driving - anywhere but in my hand.

A few comments. The coolant reservoir is an expansion tank and coolant levels will fluctuate with weather and driving conditions. A reading at the 'minimum' level on a cold winter morning will read 'maximum' or 'full' after a long summer drive.
As for the oil consumption, I would recommend oil changes every 4500 miles with GDI engines (especially in the first 10K miles since new engines break in period will cause some oil burn). I have a 21 Palisade, which has the same engine and the manual cautions about higher oil use in the first few oil changes.

@cage911 G.D I stands for gasoline direct injected. it's different than port injected which offers a marginal difference in gas mileage. just do a quick search on youtube of the differences between GDI and port injection. Port injection is better from a Longevity perspective but GDI is more of a fine tuning of how fuel is delivered.

I had a 2021 S trim with AWD. Loved it. Unfortunately another driver pulled out in front of me and my son. Thankfully no one was seriously injured. I was traveling at about 55 miles per hour when the other driver drove into the intersection. There was no time to react. I hit the passenger side of the other car. The telluride was able to slow down some, how much I don’t know, but I didn’t have enough time to do anything at all. The drivers side of the Kia took the brunt of the collision. The entire cab of the telluride stayed intact. IMO the car couldn’t have performed better. I think that in an older car either me or my son would have likely submarined some under the dash and sustained injuries to our legs. Other than being shaken up by the force of the crash we didn’t have a scratch on us. Again thankfully the driver of the other car wasn’t hurt either. This is likely due to the fact I hit the drivers side. Had there been a passenger in his vehicle there is no telling what would have happened to them. Anyway, both cars were totaled. I replaced the telluride with a truck, that’s a long story too, but I plan on getting my wife a Telluride ASAP. Great vehicle.

I like the information about the oil issue and coolant and hope to see it addressed by kia either as a singular issue on this car or if there is a broader issue. A couple things if you use keyless entry on the passenger side press the handle once all doors unlock. Also being a family man. If the kids are in the back seat and you are parked and they try to open the door as traffic is passing it will automatically lock the doors. All the usb ports and heated and cooled front and rear seats are things some vehicles at double the price doesn’t have. For the price point a no brainer.

7,500 for an oil change? Regardless of what the oil gallon says, don't go over 5k without checking your oil. Check color, quantity and quality at 5k or change it at 5k and you'll never have an issue with your engine, specially if those miles are in city.

    • @rebelfrlfe
      @rebelfrlfe 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Check it sure, but if the book says 7500 then i'm going 7500. Either way there is no reason for a new car to burn 2 qts of oil. That's a sign of major problems. My Honda burns no oil in between oil changes which are around 10k

Have a 2020 SX Prestige with 58600 miles that we've had since October 2019. Kia backs their warranty as we've had a rear strut and battery replaced on this vehicle, all under warranty. Just put new tires on but that is to be expected at this mileage. We've taken it on 3 long road trips and it is a very comfortable car to drive and ride in. The minor items you noted are very, very minor. Dealer recommended oil changes every 5000 miles, which we follow instead of the 7500 mile interval Kia recommends. We've haven't had any oil issues. We definitely recommend looking at the Telluride if you are looking for a family sized SUV.
We also had a second 2020 SX that we traded in for a Kia Stinger. That Telluride was also a nice vehicle, but did not have the Prestige package. Took that one on 2 long road trips and was as comfortable as our SX Prestige. Full disclosure, we've had Kia vehicles for almost 20 years starting with an Amanti. We've had 2 Amantis, a Spectra 5, a Cadenza, 3 Optimas, 2 Tellurides, and a Stinger. Any real issues were covered under warranty. As with any car, normal maintenance is important. We use our dealer for service, if you do it yourself or have service done elsewhere, make sure you save the receipts.

2 quarts for 7500 miles isn't bad as relates to industry standards.. but my suggestion is to shorten your drain intervals.. oil and filter every 5000 miles or 6 month which ever comes first.. the oil off burn rate should go down as the engine is still new.. but as it gets older with higher drain intervals it might come back as varnish sticks the oil control rings.. i know some dealership say 10,000 personal i wouldn't check ur manual as theirs a specific criteria to meet which allows for higher drain intervals which few people can do

i had a 2020 lx and we recently went to 4 local kia dealerships to get into a 2023 ex-x line. every dealer had the cars marked up from 2k all the way up to 6k (jim shorkey kia). they would not budge because a sucker was sure to walk in right after us. ended up buying a 2023 Atlas Cross Sport SEL R line v6. we love it. the tellurides are an awesome bargain at MSRP. once they start shoveling on thousands of dollars on top of MSRP the kia is no longer a bargain. the VW MSRP'd higher than the kia but because of dealer price gouging, the kia would have costed us more. we are a family of three, the third row was always down in the telluride. i love the sporty look of the cross sport. it kinda looks like a little tank! lol . as much as i love the telluride, i'll most likely never go back to one out of principle. plus. we got ours in 2019 when nobody seen them around really. now everyone and their cousin has one and they're starting to feel played out.

Honda has a terrible fitment on exterior body panels. Lift gate is one of the spots to look gaps around. We have a Pilot, and this gap issues is across entire Honda car lines. No one is perfect today. Their tolerances are wide open. If you check Audi, you will notice right away how gap is smaller and consistence. If you’re watching this and in the market, I’d suggest also considering the Subaru Ascent - apples to apples 3-5k cheaper and amazing build quality and overall a fun capable 3 seater. We’ve owned two Kia’s, they’re OK but there is a reason they offer such a long warranty. You’re gonna need it… We had a few relatively large repairs needed (luckily covered under warranty). After also owning two Subarus zzzeerrrooo issues and nothing but basic maintenance on them for 3-5 years after owning both of them for longer periods of times.

I was very excited about the Telluride based on last year's Consumer's Report, which gave it an extraordinary 97 rating, although their latest rating is 59! What turned me in another direction, however, was (1) the GDI engine, which is problematic in several respects; (2) lack of a spare tire, because the tire repair kit is useless if you have a blowout or sidewall damage, which also can be problematic if the failure comes when you're out in the boondocks, since many tow-truck drivers are no longer allowed to carry passengers; and (3) that Kia has a terrible reputation for not honoring their warranty. The clincher was the inflated pricing over MSRP.
For anyone thinking about buying a Telluride: The GDI engine does not spray fuel over the valves, only directly into the combustion chamber. The result is that, regardless of whatever else you do, like changing oil regularly, the engine begins to lose performance, probably at about 20K miles, because the valves aren't getting cleaned. The sensible thing to do is use one of the popular cleaning kits every 15K or so, which only costs about $15 and takes about an hour. But if you DIY, you may be facing warranty aggravation sometime in the future if Kia claims that you shouldn't have performed that service yourself. And can you guess what the dealers charge to do the job for you? $300!

The warranty is dealer specific btw. For example ours was 3k over MSRP but others were 12-18k over MSRP. Different dealerships also offer different warranties. Kia itself offers 10 yr 100k but we actually got 20 yr 200k through our dealership. They also have a bumper to bumper (eventhough they don't call it that anymore) the average is 3 yr but kia actually offered a 5yr bumper to bumper. They also warranty all electronics for 1 year.

Thanks for the review with your personal experience and annoyances. There are so many Telluride videos that just talk about the features but never any downsides (even though they are personal it is helpful).
I have a 2022 SX Prestige Nightfall and luckily have not run into the "build quality" issues you have seen.
There is one that I have which I have chosen to ignore is the lid that covers the charging pad compartment will not latch, but since I always leave it open, it's not an issue.
One design annoyance is that the buttons to the left of the wheel are in the worst sequence. All are rarely used except for the liftgate button, but they located it on the far right where visibility is blocked by the wheel. It should be placed on the left (outboard) position.
As far as the keyless entry issue...are there ANY vehicles that have entry sensors on the rear doors? I have not encountered any and was curious. They did change for 2023 to eliminate the button and switch to a touch sensor on the inside of the handle. I like that change.
One other annoyance is that Nightfall should include black out of the KIA badges. I did mine with aftermarket vinyl decals and I removed my AWD badge to have a cleaner looking tailgate.

Almost all new engines have low friction piston rings that save 1 percent on fuel, but don’t seal as well as old school “high” friction rings therefore causing more blow by into cylinder head. Very common now and not a good design philosophy. Volkswagen has the highest acceptable oil consumption at the moment. Check your owners manual about how much oil being depleted is acceptable. And check your oil level every week or two if need be.

I'm a 2022 Telluride SX Prestige owner at 7,100 miles, appreciate your 18K mile review, but as an audiophile, I think you missed the most critical flaw of the car. Frankly, Kia Motors has misled the consumer to believe the factory Harmon Kardon radio is premium. It's anything but premium. It's bad. Very disappointed with the factory audio system. Granted, most people are going to be satisfied, (and high-end audio is not a priority in most people's life), but the truth is, the factory system is C-R-A-P.
As a result, I will be changing out the factory system to:
JL Audio XDM 800 8 Channel Amp
Focal ISU 165 component speakers (pair) for front doors, (woofer and tweeter).
Focal ISU 165 component speakers (pair) for rear doors, (woofer and tweeter).
Center Speaker size unknown. TBD and replaced/upgraded.
Sub Size unknown. TBD and replaced/upgraded.
    AudioControl LC8i Line Output Converter/Processor
Wire Bundle Kit for amp with Fuses
SoundShield Car Sound Deadening Door Kit for Doors ~ 4 Rolls.
Rating the exterior styling and looks: 9 out of 10
Rating the Factory Audio System, (Premium Harmon-Kardon): 5 out of 10
Rating how fun it is to drive in Sport mode: 6 out of 10.
Rating the Volkswagen Atlas styling and looks: 6 out of 10.
Rating the Volkswagen Atlas Factory Audio System: 9 out of 10.
Rating the Volkswagen Atlas how fun it is to drive with their double clutch system: 9 out of 10.
Would I buy the Telluride over again? No.
Would I buy a Volkswagen Atlas Peak addition, fully loaded? Yes.
I feel Kia Motors has misled the public to think their Audio System is Premium. It's anything but Premium. It's a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!

I should have added two other negative qualities of the Telluride engine: No hydraulic lifters, which is pretty much de rigueur on all modern engines, , which mainly means a lot of clatter on start-up and until the engine warms up. More problematic is the high compression, which equals high heat. Between those two attributes and the carbon buildup from GDI, it seems fair to say that these are not ideal if you're looking for a trouble-free, long-lived engine, like 150-200K miles. (In contrast, for example, my current 2002 Honda CR-V, which has been maintained and trouble-free except for a failed oxygen sensor, has the same acceleration as when it was new and doesn't use a drop of oil between changes.)

    • @joebrown9621
      @joebrown9621 ปีที่แล้ว

They're pros and cons to not having hydraulic lifters plus Honda likes not using hydraulic lifters on a few of their engines.. not sure if they went completely away as of 2022 .. The loud chatter most people hear on startup isn't just lifters it the GDI pump in cold start mode being modulating at a certain pluse width.. To varify rev the engine slightly and if the note or loudness changes significantly when the RPM's fall back down then it's the pump which is normal running at that high pressure ..

Bro please stop changing oil at 7500 miles. 5000 miles or 6 months is the maximum on any engine. Any higher on the manual is a marketing BS. We just purchased a 2023 Telluride "S" model, so just starting to figure out all the whistles and bells - both the good and the bad, and I already feel there are just too many unnecessary features, several of which require a PHD to figure out. First off, the LX and S trim level do not have a power tailgate lift, which is indeed annoying; plus, Kia should have put a rubber rear bumper protector strip over top lip so you won't scratch the exposed 2 1/2" of paint every time you try to slide something in or out of the rear storage area - I have already installed an aftermarket protection strip. While the engine is smooth, it does not have the instant "punch" our 2011 Lexus RX350 had, and I'd really wish it would get better gas mileage for such a new vehicle, especially with the pain at the pump we are now experiencing due to obvious reasons (no, not attributable to "Putin's Price Hikes" :( ). One thing not mentioned is the absolutely horrible stereo system - music sounds like crap and it's my understanding that even the "so-called" premium Harmon-Kardon system found in the EX and SX models is not very good. The LX and S don't even have a sub. Come on, KIA, the systems in my old Lexus and 2012 Mercedes were excellent and even had a CD PLAYER! So you are forced to get better speakers and/or have a professional car audio installer improve things for you if you value clean, high-end sound like I do. This is just the start, so I hope there will not be many more unpleasant "surprises."

Thankfully little in the way of mechanical issues but electrical issues were also not rare. Lexus is fine, but mainstream Toyota has going downhill in interior quality for years now.

The value of the Telluride compared with any of its mid sized, 3-row competitors is pretty significant. I have found the features, materials and build quality to be excellent, if not better. How many of them offer heated AND cooled second row seats? It will be interesting to see how the new generation Honda Pilot compares.
