I was an avid tanner in the 90s all year around. I suffered a skin cancer removed and major skin damage. This was at 25 i stopped all sun, became bestfriends with sunscreen and got on tretinoin. Now im 40 yrs old. Ive been on tret continuously for 15 yrs no breaks. I have thick, plump, even toned wrinkle free skin. I get compliments all the time on my skin and not looking my age. I tribute it all to tret. I will use it until my last days, maybe throw a tube in my casket for the afterlife. Thats how much i love it.

Right. There's always a couple "experts" that try to make a name for themselves by intentionally spreading misinformation, usually along the lines of "I discovered secret information the medical community is hiding from you!"
No doubt he probably has a product of his own that's miraculously a "cure" for the particular ailment he claims to be an expert on. Or selling a book, podcast, something. There's usually always a financial motive for this behavior.
We always have to be sure to look into these sorts of things on our own, too. Never take bold claims at face value. I appreciate you, too, Dr. Dray!

It took me over 6 months to start seeing a difference in my skin using tretinoin. I’ve been using it for a little over one year now & my skin is in the best shape it’s ever been in. In fact, I just got a new prescription for a stronger dose & I’m going through the peeling stages again. I call it having dandruff on my face because it’s constantly shedding. I know this shedding will only last a couple weeks, at tops, so I’m OK with it.
Please don’t throw in the towel too soon. It really does take quite a while before you see results.

I've had success with snail mucin, centella asiatica, and hyaluronic acid serums, too. A daytime moisturizer with urea could also help. The one from Eucerin is nice and pretty inexpensive. I don't really have much dryness from it anymore, so hopefully, yours will be temporary, too.

In addition to my face I also put it on my upper back as far as I can reach over my shoulder (for spots) and my husband commented that he could see a marked difference in sun spots between the upper part of my back and the lower; the lower having far more marks as I had not applied Retin A. May I ask why you wore sunscreen regularly in the early 80s? The effects of UVA rays on aging haven't been studied as extensively back then and all sunscreens available at that time were not broad spectrum (only formulated to protect against UVB rays). The only FDA approved chemical UVA filter Avobenzone hasn't been approved until 1988 and mineral sunscreens have not been anywhwere near cosmetically elegant at that time and nobody would have worn it daily. So what was the point?

@@crystalclear7512 wrong, number one I'm very fair skin blue-eyed and we live in Southern California and moving here from Michigan when I was nine. We regularly bought a sunscreen called Ti-screen, and it was one of the few sunscreens that had Avobenzone. It was very well known about sunscreen usage in the '80s lol I don't know where you're getting that information from! The problem was the lack of available sunscreens that protected against UVA which is why we bought the Ti-screen because it was the only one that was face-friendly and had the avobenzone in it. I used that particular sunscreen for quite a few years until they started coming out with better ones. Living in Southern California and going to the beach as a blonde blue-eyed white girl and not wanting to get fried, believe me sunscreen was a very important thing in our household! The only problem was being called Casper and white girl! Lol funny though I never gave into peer pressure and did not allow myself to tan. Smart move that I don't regret.

I’ve been using it since I was 39 now I’m 60 and have seen the long term results. People do not believe I’m 60. Basically I use it every night.1% concentration.

I’ve been using prescription tretinoin for over 6 years. How I knew it was really working is when a very prominent scar on my forehead starting smoothing out. I was in an automobile accident when I was 14 and hit the windshield so hard it pulled out a chunk of my hair and several layers of skin. It’s ALWAYS been a weird and bumpy square patch for my entire life. It is as smooth as the rest of my skin now.
I’m also 55 and no one ever believes that is my age. I started when I was 49 with pretty decent skin to begin with. But this has been a game changer. I have never experienced any adverse reactions and I also have sensitive skin.

I battled acne until my late 30's and I continue to use tretinoin NIGHTLY. I now use it for fine lines/wrinkles/sun damage. She tried for the full 2 hours (I was scheduled tor 1 hr but she wouldn’t stop talking) to get me off the retinol. That’s what led me here. 21:50 Very well done stating the fact that, this anology may not necessarily be completely accurate. I know for a fact, retinoid acid receptors tend to get down regulated with use anyway with use - meaning, you are not constantly "forcing" your skin to "work out without rest" even if you want to. Not to mention there will be a theoretical receptor saturation eventually with continued use (hence the higher strengths are not necessarily better). I think all in all, such "response" videos by Andrea are the moments when we tend to see her PhD site as she is an MD-PhD essentially and not always but mostly, PhDs tend to, by the virtue of the entire training is aimed to make you a scientist with critical reasoning skills, better analyse the outcomes of different bodies of research.

The video from The Honest Channel motivated me to read an detailed study on Pub Med about the effects of vitamin A derivatives including tretinoin in all its formulations. The study actually cited the exact opposite of what the experts claimed on The Honest Channel! In addition the study did not even recommend discontinuation of use when experiencing skin irritation as the study found that skin irritation resolves in two weeks and does not seem to prevent the beneficial effects of the vitamin A derivative. “ The most noteworthy, but unexpected observation in this study was the rapid accommodation of the skin to retinoid side effects occurring within just 2 weeks. “ (quote from study) Interestingly, the study near the bottom of the long detailed article said that a mixture of vitamin c and tretinoin showed even greater benefits. Here is the quote: “Finally, the authors concluded that repeated topical application of a preparation containing both retinol and vitamin C could reverse, at least in part, skin changes induced by both chronological and photoaging.” Unfortunately, I don’t know who manufactures that sort of treatment.

I was disgusted by the original video when I first saw it and I left a comment letting the channel owner know how wrong it was of her to platform someone like this. Thank you for covering this Dr. Dray!!! Their video did scare me a little. I looked up the study but it’s helpful to hear a doctor interpret it.
If it’s of any interest to you, would you possibly cover Ivan Galanin’s claims that his cream, Adipeau, is able to reach and restore the facial fat by trickling down the facial hair follicles? He says the hair follicles allow his cream to get past the stratum corneum barrier, provided the cream is not rubbed in, but rather left on skin in a thick layer.
Many of us would like to restore facial fat and would be interested in this if it possibly works. But I have major doubts that the hair follicles are the key for topicals to reach the dermis and subcutaneous tissues.
Thank you for everything you do to inform us! I’ve learned so much from you!

Thank you for addressing the misinformation in this interview. I was concerned about the dissolving fat with hyluronic acid and Tretinion, and considered changing my routine after watching this. But I could not understand, how hyluronic acid could reach the layer of fat under the skin when applied topically, and then bring tretinion along for the ride to destroy the fat. I am continuing on my tretinion journey.

I saw this video and was so confused and it made me feel like I should be skeptical about Vitamin A products even though it was the only reason I had to do so. Thank you so much for clearing up the BS. The lady on the right who had the least scientific authority seemed to be the only honest person in the room. This was like a live demonstration of how the skin care industry BSes customers. The only thing missing was the introduction of the miracle product that works better than Vitamin A after thoroughly bashing it.

And his only proofs were his claims that he has experience and his wife used them and had visible results...

Thank you SO MUCH for making this video Dr. Dray! I am barely starting my Tretinoin journey and I'm on week 3!
SUPER IMPORTANT INFO THAT HELPED ME:
I started with once a week the first week.
Then the second week i used it twice with several days in between. This week (my 3rd week) I am going to try 1 or 2 days in between depending if i don't feel too much dryness.
    PLEASE USE THE "SANDWICH METHOD"
Step 1: I wash my face with Cerave face wash (non foaming) foaming face wash tends to make my skin more dry
Step 2: Cerave daily mosturizing lotion (let dry 3-5 min)
Step 3: Cerave healing ointment on the sensitive areas around the eyes nose and mouth (let dry 3-5 min)
Step 4: IMPORTANT Use only a PEA SIZE of tretinoin (mine is 0.025%) wait another 3-5 min
Step 5: another layer of Cerave daily moisturizing lotion to "sandwich" the tretinoin in moisturizer
    SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! ALWAYS!
This Cerave moisturizer says it has 3 essential ceramides and hyalauronic acid but I have not had any burning or dryness like he mentions in the video.
I really hope this helps! I am about to go checkout your video for short contact therapy as you mentioned at the end of the video.
Thank you again Dr. Dray! Please let me know if I am doing something i shouldn't be doing🙏💗

Perfect timing, I saw this interview 2 days ago and it raised concerns since I'm about to start tretinoin. Before that, I did read literature and studies on tretinoin, so I was confused at first, and then highly skeptical when I heard his interview, especially when I understood that he was in fact promoting his "fat-restoring cream".
There is another video of him talking about facial fat volume loss (again, to promote his cream) with statements about what causes facial fat loss, like intensity training or dynamic movement of the face with no actual studies to back up what he said. The bottom line is, what any good his fat-restoring cream does (if it works) if your skin cannot hold tight because of the lack of collagen?... On the other hand, Tretinoin is clearly promoting collagen production in the skin.
