I just purchased one a month ago and I think it’s a brilliant bike. I was initially concerned about the power coming from a much larger bike, but if I’m being truthful I’m actually enjoying just the pleasure of riding rather than seeing how fast I could go.
In 1989 I turned 18 and bought a 1972(?) Kawasaki KZ 650. It had a Windjammer fairing and was over 600 pounds. It was considered a mid sized street bike. It was pretty quick. However, the 72 KZ 650 had substantially more HP and torque than the Super Meteor. I don't think it would keep up with highway traffic in the U.S. I'd personally be more comfortable with a Rebel 1100 or even a 900 Vulcan.

Absolutely spot-on machine...... Adequate HP with adequate tourq ..... In term of build quality RE improve much more then older siblings .... & Thr charector of this engine is mesmerizing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This is an EXCELLENT bike. I bought a Scram 411 last year, but when I first saw this in a showroom, it was love at first sight. So my scooter XMAX 300 had to go! Luckily for me my favourite colour is the dark Astral green. I have since added chrome crash bars, and a windshield. Still under 1000 miles. ❤
I have become slightly obsessed with the Celestial Red Tourer version, despite not actually having even done my CBT yet... hoping to in the not too distant future but that hasn't stopped me looking at bikes 🤣, this looks like a great option as I am also blessed with short legs.
Spot on Kate. I'm 5' 6" with a 29" inseam too and find it difficult to flat foot a lot of bikes. Like you I csn easily manage a heavy bike if it's low. A previous Harley Davidson FXDL Dyna Low Rider I had was over 300kg but it never caused me any trouble at all. I can also manage a tall bike if it's light too (I just slip a bum cheek off to one side 😊). My Fiancé and I tried the SM650 and thought it was excellent. I was extremely impressed with build quality, fit and finish which is right up there. In the end we plumped for a Classic 350 - the reasons for that choice are probably left for a different review 😊
What a difference to that BMW you posted a few weeks back. It took you 20 minutes to explain how it actually worked with all its idiosyncrasies and rider modes. How refreshing to see a stripped back bike with only the necessities on it, all these rider modes bore me to tears.
I bought myself a 350 meteor in the summer and I am thinking about buying a Super Meteor. I was concerned about the weight and seat height but now I'm not, because I am the same height and inside leg as you so I can see that I should be able to manage the 650. By the way I really enjoy my 350.
Slow motion push test looked good :) No mention of service intervals, look forward to your take on how it rides. The newer interceptors now also feature the switchgear that first appeared on the Meteor, although the SM are more premium in metal.
I rode cruiser bikes for around 20 years before downsizing to a Scram about a year ago. Saw my first Super Meteor on the road today, while I was out riding. I am tempted.
I have a Honda 750 BUT I love my Meteor. It's a hop on and go anywhere bike with a really comfy seat and riding position and gets lots of complements while out and about, often from other bikers on bigger machines : recommend !.
Whatever floats your boat, for me if your gonna get an Enners it's gotta be the Interceptor. Incidentally on the latest versions the switch gear has been redesigned, there's different colour schemes and cast wheels with tubeless tyres plus blacked out castings if that's your thing, I'm quite happy with the original version myself fine machine. As for a clock, fit an Oxford analogue bar mounted item, complements the existing instruments perfectly. Job done!! 😊
I have and LOVE an Interceptor 650. I travel full time so I converted it to belt drive because I sometimes had to stop twice a week to clean, lube, and adjust the chain. 27,000 miles on the belt with no maintenance required, no mess. I was just in a showroom and saw my first Super Meteor 650 and loved it and probably would have traded it in on the spot if it was belt drive. Loved the forward controls, no spokes to clean, tubeless wheels, inverted forks less maintenance, love the tripper, and the engine covers painted so easier to maintain. Just can't put up with the down time and mess of a chain. That's too old school for me. A true cruiser should be belt drive.
That bike actually looks really attractive for a 650 cruiser, i like how its reminiscent of old bikes but brings in new tech, i also like how its oil and air cooled but euro 5, how theyve done that i have no idea, looks great though.
Great review Kate, as always. Doing a cracking job on here! When I reviewed the Super Meteor, I found it a really nice, easy bike to ride. Plenty of power, handled lovely, didn't feel heavy at all. Very enjoyable bike. I'm not into cruisers, at all! But I would consider one of these, if I could afford it as a weekend toy. Lucky enough to have 2 bikes already, can't afford a 3rd at mo, and I'm not parting with either of my current bikes. Not ridden the Interceptor, or Continetal GT..............yet?! Be safe, ride safe and have fun, Grumps.
OK. The outtakes at the end are great. I think you are on to something. I think everyone should include them. It forces everyone to watch the whole thing and makes the video more interesting. As far as the bike, I really like how it looks but I just bought a brand new bike last week.
I already have the Continental GTand its a cracking machine but it's no long distance machine . So after about an hour and half in saddle I'm ready to get off. If RE ever make an 850cc version of this twin I'll buy it.
Great review…I’ve got this exact bike and color. Rides great. I thought the forward controls could be a problem but I’m getting use to it. Need to experiment with the rear shock adjustment..
Thanks for the review. What I missed was the details on ride quality. Hows the gear feedback at each shift? Hows the vibrations on the handle bar? Is that shock absorber good in really bad roads? Side comment: you look tall for 5.4 :)
I test rode the Super Meteor and the Interceptor on the same day. For me the Super Meteor wins over the Interceptor. I just would like a better seat as standard, again the pillion seat is a tad small and looks uncomfortable. I will buy one next year and probably their top range model.
I personally prefer the Shotgun 650 stylewise. The possibility taking a pillion though makes me lean more to the Super Meteor after all. I hope to be able to eventually ride both models. I know I can go some 250 km to find a demo Shotgun, but no one seem to have the Super Meteor for test rides where I live. We will see. 😊 Great video!
As of today I am not aware of these even being sold in The U.S. My local dealer here in Connecticut doesn't have any. I love the Meteor but the 350 doesn't have enough grunt for me. This 650 looks just right. Especially that Astral Blue. I just bought a new Indian Chieftain Darkhorse and it has a ton of power at 1.9 Litres but this bike has charactor to spareand I'm more likley to keep my license.

Rode an Interceptor. Liked it. Looking forward to riding a Super. If the Inter had straight back exhaust there would be no problem. Upswept exhausts have always annoyed me, starting with my CB 500. Need room for panniers. Likely will get a Meteor, but wonder about adding a tachometer.
Couple of points, the SM comes with a 19 inch front and a 16 inch rear wheel not the 18 inch you claimed and right at the end the Conti GT you showed is a 535 which is a single pot and not a twin. I have a Celestial in blue and it's a fantastic machine. Any chance you do a ride video and let us know what you think of it on the road? You just got another subscriber. Nice relaxed review 👍

The Interceptor and Continental GT now have the same switchgear as shown in your video, and as one of the few Americans, not interested in cruisers, I would go for the Interceptor.
great review Kate , that's a lot of bike for the money , I personally still would pick the Interceptor , but great value if your in the market for a mid range cruiser.
Thanks Kate. I'd say the SM650 has nice retro styling and the benefits of forward controls for a less cramped riding position. But if I really had 7K or 8K to spend, I doubt that I'd go for any of the RE 650s. I think I'd be far more likely to reboot my Harley riding career with a nice used Big Twin, or i might even look for a decent classic UJM.
Would be a nice book if it didn't have the forward controls so that's a no from me. The ShotGun with the mid controls might be an okay bike that's if it fits my 6'1'' 120kg frame.
It’s tough to choose for looks between the 3. I think for riding favourite it would be between the Interceptor and the super meteor. I don’t like the handlebar position on the continental.
I find it funny that at 5’4” you can stand with feet firmly planted, yet some of the other reviewers (male) have complained that they couldn’t, and they’re the same height as you. I’m definitely looking at getting one, but I want touring specs in black.
My favorite os the Super Meteor... Just a bit higher than you, I fully agree, a bike can can be light or heavy weigth, depending on the seat... Just the us can understand It 😂😂😂
Actually I'd take issue with the statement the switch gear is like a hunter, it's a meteor set up as this switch gear first appeared on the meteor, then the hunter later

In my opinion Royal Enfield is an experience itself which can not explained.

I went for the Astrel blue, and I love it. Living in the Pennines Leeds to some outstanding rides.

The latest "black" range of Interceptors are getting the Super Meteor switch gear too. The alloy material is definitely a step up.

I’ve just recently bought one, the interstellar green. Early impressions are good with no problems on forward foot controls. Nice bike 👍

True, but I picked up a used Nightster for less and it's been super reliable. Depends who you buy from.

With the 350 Meteor the bikes had too have their windshield removed for sale in Canada . I wonder if they corrected that on the 650 Meteor ?

Ah, my only experiences of RE was the HNTR and Interceptor so I drew similarities there but I can't speak for the full range 😊
RE should bring a 'classic' version of interceptor
