Mine loves the GAMO Red Fire and Crosman Fast Flights. But will also sling a standard Crosman Hollow point with enough velocity to drop a squirrel at 30 feet . Awesome Video as always.

Mine loved to be fed the cheap winchester .177 round nose from tractor supply. Dime sized groups at 30yds... Used to sit on the porch and shoot carpenter bees out of the air with it. Makes me want to go out and get another to mod!

I like your channel, primarily because you seem to focus on "affordable" air guns. I'm retired on a good pension and buy what I want, now, but there was a time that I bought "cheap" and I still enjoy some of my first guns more than the 'Better" ones I've picked up more recently. I snatch up Wally World clearance stuff whenever I can ( the whole supply chain interruption crap goin' on during Covid seems to mean that nothing is on clearance right now, LOL ) and I love testing them to see if I get a hidden treasure. I'm pretty sure you know exactly what I'm talking about. Anyway, you said you would test pellets in different guns if the pellets were sent to you, but you didn't say where to send them. I have over 50 different pellets that I test in my guns in .177 and .22 and some of them are sort of obscure and might make interesting videos. If you have a PO box to receive them at, without putting your address all over the internet, I be glad to send some samples to you to try in your videos. I love TH-cam because I learn so much from it, but I don't really want to make my own content, so if I can help with yours, I'd feel like I'm giving back. Keep up the good work. Airgunning is something that we need to spread to keep up the support for our 2A rights by attracting the next generation of shooters.

I used to have a crosman phantom .22 air rifle and it was an ok gun. It only cost me a hundred bucks ordering from cabelas. I used to shoot the cheap 1.1 gram ruger pointed Walmart pellets out of it and before I sold it I put about a thousand shots through it. The issue with that gun was the horrible blueing job and the barrel droop. Every few hundred shots I started hitting way low. I’m much happier with the high quality German made Diana air rifles that I shoot now but for doing it on the cheap with a break barrel the crosman phantom isn’t a bad choice and it’s better than nothing and will get the job done. Only thing is I probably should have used crosman pointed pellets with it because they say often times that crosman guns do better with crosman pellets

Travis, as your buddy "model nutty" is one smart air rifle dude. He knew the wadcutters overall would do well at the sub 650 FPS. Those are the speeds Wadcutters are designed to perform best! The heavier and longer pellets need more speed to keep them stable. Just like slugs need speed and twist rates to keep them stable! I hope the RWS super Mags (Wadcutters) will get a chance on the 880 after they arrive.

lol thanks, and yup, put 5 pumps on old Daisy match they'll group really sweet.
now wishing I'd sent him 3X as many of those 7.6 grain Winchester dome/HP's are really happy with 7 pumps on them at 15 and 20 yards, near as tight as match pellets at 5 pumps, varmints beware! I do think many of the pellets tested could have shown better at 7 or 8 pumps because "skirt tipping theory", a little lower fps for better placement on that small head shot. same Winchesters sure like being shot from the 1101S here, super nice for the price.

@@ohshoot444 no doubt you'll see "sweet spots" from different pellets/pumps with an 880. recently did find cheap Crosman points are pretty happy 7 and 8 pumps from it, but the W's are better.

Thanks for the great shoot out, Travis I understand your thoughts on groups and consistency. My thoughts on tight groups "out of the tin" with little inspection or sorting and only 1 or 2 bad pellets pellets are awesome. Those groups have more long range potential! If inspection and sorting can eliminate the 1 or 2 bad pellets you have pellets with accuracy at further distances. a great pellet with sorting needed to eliminate the few bad pellets. Your Sigs and the Gamo Rockets have greater potential with sorting.

Crosman .177 caliber Destroyer, hollow point, and the Crosman Premium copper-plated dome nose pellets shoot very well out of my Crosman Vigilante CO2 revolver, Gamo Hunter Sport rifle, and Barra 1866 Cowboy Series rifle. I have a tendency to use Crosman pellets because their headquarters is located in my home state (New York) but also they work well in all my air guns. I also have some Beeman 'gold' hollow-point semi wadcutter pellets which are great but I don't know if they are still available. The Daisy 880 rifle was under consideration for my next air gun purchase but I chose the Barra 1866 because of good reviews and I just like the looks of it (it happens to be very accurate as well). Great informative video.

Well that's interesting those multi pump guns in general are arm builders. On side note found a older 880 I'm tempted to get but won't pump up and guy wants 30 I think oiling or rings but not sure

pass on the older because of cost+time to fix it, newer are more solid and slightly nicer, Walmart for 37-38 bucks, or eBay sent to your door about 50 bucks. if its not pumping up main plunger seal may have gotten dirted, its THE major enemy of an 880. next is valve in+out of air storage, not exactly cheap or easy replacing.. then you're still wondering if its had a lot of steel BB's run through it to put a bunch of wear on the bore (never run BB's!). do expect the scope that comes with a new one to be about worthless, the open sights will be better until you slap a 13 dollar 4x20 on it, or 11 dollar 4x15 Tasco if they got it at Walmart same day might as well grab.

@@Rev.nighthawk..pjred1984 prob with Crosman 760 is they're too flexible between scope dovetail and barrel, pumping it up will throw it off. the factory barrel mounted open sites are good once adjusted. with a hobby saw you can slit the front site blade (top down lengthwise), smear a pin drop of white paint in the slit, then CA a fiber-optic rod+bead into it, really nice!
(older 760 had the fiber-optic on them, wish they'd kept it)
the stock Daisy 880 open sites are really good, tip of front blade has a white dot right where you'd want it, but included scope total junk.
880 not huge on velocity but they're really special for accuracy when you get used to them, different pellets behave differently at different pumps and most are consistent once you find their sweet spot

Those Chinese pellets are QYS, I've seen some really good reviews on them. Supposed to be very clean, near perfect weight, no deformities, packages well.

I had an 880 around 1989 that I had for 20 years before I stupidly gave it away. Know I needed something for some gophers + voles around the house. I now have another 880 back in my hands. (880 Shadow). I'm glad I bought another. It really surprises a lot of people with it's power + accuracy,..... for a low cost multi-pump. I originally started watching your video expecting info on Crossman destroyers, piranha, and or hollow points. Lol a short time into the video I knew that wasn't gonna happen. You got No love for crossman.
Lol. But tons for me to think about. Thanks again for the effort you put in + the info.

This was a while ago. I don’t hate Crosman pellets as much now. The best hunting pellet I’ve found is h and n destroyers. Also the new 880s are a little better than the old in my opinion because of the stock design.

@@ohshoot444 Thanks. I have heard good things about the H&N. On that and your recommendation, I'll pick up some Destroyers. True about the 880 stock,... The extra bolts/Screws make it a bit more solid.
Aside from that, and the receiver went from metal to plastic, it's the same

I got my Daisy 880 as a gift for my 16th birthday. I'm now 43 and, the other day, I 10-pumped Crosman pointed pelets at 25 yards and got like a 1.25" to 2" grouping (Didn't really measure just eye-balled from the 1" orange targeting circle I stuck to 3/4" plywood) with them while trying to bench-shoot from a 6' A-frame ladder. lol. I had my old, I think BSA, 3-7x20 scope on it.

Just a big thank you - for getting me into the Winchester 2-7x scope on an 880 (modded with tape on barrel inside shroud) ... big difference! The AO and front focus help keep my primary/secondary focus planes perfect ... I was chasing center/zero with a $40 big box store 4x32 until I got that Winchester scope
I'm now getting most hole-in-hole at 10m indoor with occasional stray using Daisy flat nose.
I can almost anticipate when I'm going to get a stray when I have to push harder to engage the pellet.
- update - pumping no more than 5x (sometimes just 2x) ... 4x seems to be a sweet spot ... and if I have a pellet that 'pushes hard' into the breech, I might go one less pump to stack my shots in/near the same hole

The 880 has become my favorite so far. My goal was to find an inexpensive 10m air gun for indoor/home target use. Wish I hadn't bought the Winchester 1977xs first. It looked like the better gun and cost $20 more at my local Academy... But now both are scheduled to get the Ronno6 trigger mod upon receipt via USPS. I'd love to try some serious match grade wad cutters in the 880. But now I'm thinking keep using the cheaper Daisy flat nose (250/$2) but get a gram scale... And maybe even run them thru a fine sand tumbler to get a smoother finish and find a way to measure max head diameter reliably to improve consistency in groups. Thanks again for your videos!

Crossman Premier Destroyer pellets. 7.4 gr. 100 yards. 10-shot group, 0.94 inches. I never use short distances. 10 pumps per round.

Been shooting this 100 yd range in my yard for 27 years now. .50 cal muzzle loader, .3006, .22, and my pistols. Bought this Daisy 880 in 2017. I’ve tried many pellets. Typically get a 9” pattern with cheap garden variety pellets at 100 yds, with 3 strays out of 10. Those strays can be 3 feet at 100 yds. If you aren’t using a 100 yd range, you need to start. Just because you don’t/cant, doesn’t mean others (me) aren’t. 15-22 yds is just too close. My target patches are the 3” and 2” hunter orange circles.
I’ve found the differences in pellets to be the “skirt” that contacts the bore walls. Cheap pellets are all over the place on skirt precision. Under 25X magnification you can see skirt imperfections. They cause “tumbling” through the bore. I was surprised to see how precise the Crosman Premier Destroyer pellets are molded/pressed.
You really need to get out more.

It is pretty insane how results vary from a gun/barrel to an other...velocity/rifling match with different pellet lengths and headsizes, feels like this is a never ending experiment but I think Its part of the fun, figuring out what works best with every gun

experience.. the old Daisy Quicksilver "precision match grade" live up to their name from an 880 at 4-5 pumps. much faster they'll start flying away on ya.
edit: 15 yards really tight, no problem 15-20 yard head shot, birds squirrels etc.
near same for old Daisy pointed with 5-6 pumps on them, really good. more power and they'll start losing that nice accuracy.

I am new to the intricacies of air gun shooting and find it interesting how the same model gun can vary from gun to gun in which pellet works best.
I have never owned a firearm but wonder if the same variance applies to firearms? Please forgive me if that is a dumb question.
Though I don't own firearms, I want to make clear that I am a strong supporter of the right to do so!

Not a dumb question at all. And yes it does. It’s really severe in some centerfire rifles, that’s why handloading is so popular. If you enjoy air rifles, you should get yourself at least one 22LR!

I'd almost bet they'll give 0.3 at 15 going 7-8 pumps if you're steady enough.

A heavier pellet gives you better foot pounds of energy for taking down small game.
So these tests should have been done with heavier weighted 177 caliber pellet closer to 10 grain pellet

I’d get HN Terminators from Midway USA. That’s gonna be tough to put down a raccoon. You may want to keep a aluminum ball bat handy if you have to chase it down and club it.

Check out the other post you made. HN Terminators or Predator Polymags are your best bet. 880s don’t do well with heavy pellets. So stay between 7-9 grains.

How close can you focus that Winchester 2-7 scope?

It depends on the individual scope. It goes down to 2x though. I’d say it focuses at 10 yards easily. But, not at maximum magnification.

@@ohshoot444 I didn't see hat distance in the literature. I might be stuck with the bug buster scopes as they focus down to 3 yards. I am always impressed with guys who can shoot springers well. Good for you. It's just such a violent firing cycle. Thanks for the info.

@@ohshoot444 It seems like so many guys are trying to get "long range" firearms performance from an airgun. Many modern PCP guns do offer impressive performance and there are many expensive, long, and heave scopes available to scratch that itch. My uses are closer and require less power. Very few scopes focus down to as close as I need them to. The Bug Buster does. I have an original 4X32 that adjusts down to 3 yards (( feet!). It works and I don't recommend it. I also have a 3-9 AO bug Buster which is a better scope ...and it's a good scope, but I wouldn't call it awesome. I call it serviceable. It too focus' down to 3 yards but also allows game getting performance out to further distances. They are short and light which is good. The rings are very close together because it is so short which can be a problem when mounting over a magazine. The little scope can not slide back far enough to get comfortable eye relief. Buy from Amazon so you can return it easily if it doesn't work for your application.
