      What surprised me was that you didn't show what equipment to avoid. These weird names you used might be very familiar to *you* but that doesn't mean everyone know what they mean. Instead of showing you talking about them maybe you could actually show pictures or videos of the devices in question?
      Like, you're showing a clarifying video of what "walking outside" means, but not what bloody exersaucers or floor seats are!

      I wouldn't mind if my husband was trying to relax while with the baby. He's the breadwinner and he needs his relaxation time to function. I'd just either let it be or take the baby to give him more I interaction myself. Then I'd wait until my husband was ready to hand the kid back.

    One thing I learnt here is that I need a new nanny. Personally i don't like kids who are too much into TV but just realized that sometimes when my baby cries she hands her the phone. When i realized she's interested in my phone i decided no phones when we engaging and no TV when she's eating, but she reverses all that as soon as I exit🥺

    How am I meant to keep my baby's feet warm in winter if they're not supposed to wear socks? Not all of us live in warm climates or perfectly regulated homes.

    • @Samantha-hg2lj
      @Samantha-hg2lj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Try to keep the room that you & baby are in warm, if you can’t keep the floor warm while baby’s walking/crawling a play mat is always a great idea to keep babies off the floor. Our house isn’t regulated any time of the year so that’s what we’ve done! ☺️

    • @charlotteinnocent8752
      @charlotteinnocent8752 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      I think this video goes overboard a little. Wearing socks some of the time is not going to hurt a baby. If she pulls her socks off for a while during play so she can stick her toes in her mouth, just leave her to enjoy her feet for a bit, and put clean socks on after a while so her feet don't get too cold. When she's ready to stand, let her do it barefoot, and when she switches back to sit down playing put em on again. I have five kids (youngest is six months). I used walkers for example for all of them, no hip displacia. But they didn't use the walkers ALL DAY, just one of the many toys I used to keep them interested. A little while, then change to another toy. Same with socks. They wore them some of the time in winter, but keeping a baby's socks on is mission impossible anyway! Relax and just do your best to let baby explore the world in her own way and don't let her tootsies get too cold!

    Thanks for the video! Just something I've noticed - the two videos of women carrying their babies in the carriers actually show a wrong carrying position. Aside from the M-shape for the legs, babies should be carried at a distance of a kiss (so that mom can always be sure that their airways are open and prevent suffocation). Furthermore the back of the baby should be in a C-shape to maintain a curve and spread out the weight.

    I did socks but only at night because my kid would yank his hair out and pinch himself very hard and he hated swaddles so the socks made him stay asleep without the socks he would wake up screaming with his hair pulled out in his hands it would make him frustrated and then he'd grab his pacifier and toss it... I'm so glad he grew out of that after a couple months.yeesh

    My baby boy was diagnosed of mild loose hip when he was born and we put on the harness on day 6. Really lucky to have that put on instantly. Many doctor would say after 6 months or let’s observe. In 6 weeks time, the ultrasound proved the the problem gone. It’s very important to keep hips in M. Under the guidance given by the doctors and nurses, we never swaddled the baby, never covered his hands, barely let him wear socks at home, no walking or sitting assistant toys etc. it really worked! It’s not a hearsay, it’s actually science and research findings.

    • @thuirthiawindsong
      @thuirthiawindsong 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My baby was also born with ddh and wore a harness for 3.5 months and then a rhino brace for another 6 weeks. I never thought I’d be so aware of her hip positions. We are currently out of the brace at 6 months old and hoping her next ultrasound says she can stay out of one. But I’ve known other families with ddh that missed orthopedic appointments and now have 7 year olds with it and are looking at problems down the line with her hips and potential hip replacements in young adulthood. Sometimes you can’t prevent ddh, it just happens. But healthy hip positioning and following orthopedic advice can help get hips back to healthy development

    We use mittens not for warmth or to keep skin soft. But to keep them from scratching their face up because babies nails are razor sharp and hard to clip when their new Borns. But as they get older the less it becomes a necessity. I personally don't like mine wearing mittens unless he needs to.

Sometimes I'll use the fold over sleeves at night just to keep his hands warm, but that's all. Hope this helps. Also, I don't recommend an adult file, as the grit is too sharp for their thin nails and skin.

    So many people pushed me to buy my son a walker and a jolly jumper and i refused. One lady went and got him one (second hand free) and dumped it on my doorstep because she was angry that I was depriving him by refusing to get him a walker and said she was buying a jolly jumper for christmas which I also objected.
    I explained that both myself and David need to do the proper steps towards developing his walking and that I didnt feel toys can offer him that instead 6 months of hard labor holding him up with no abdominal core while he jumped and jumped and stomped on my bladder, my legs until at 8.5 months he took his first steps.
    We worked hard on it together and I had nobody else to encourage him to walk. Single mum in a pandemic.
    I am so proud of his determination and even if I am not a perfect mother it showed me that instinctively I have what it takes to recognise his needs over my own.
    I still cant believe how angry some people got when i said I wasn’t getting him a walker.

    • @jordynf4406
      @jordynf4406 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You’re not a shitty mom at all, the overload of information given to us in the present day is overwhelming and we compare ourselves and think we are ruining our children because we are not following these channels guides to a T, but all moms are doing an amazing job if they are providing love and doing all they can for their baby. And as long as we are learning and attempting to apply such information that is all that matters, plus every baby is different. I put mittens on my baby for the exact reason and still have the tv on sometimes because if not I would drive myself insane 😬

    Those baby jumpers / walking rings etc are the absolute Bain of my life... I have forbidden my family from buying one for my son and so far we're fine.. My son is a winter baby here in the southern hemisphere and I didn't put anything on his hands at all.. He's fine...

      I also currently have a winter baby in the southern hemisphere. It gets quite cold here and snows. When I go out my baby gets cold hands so I do tuck them in the sleeves and use socks. This is only when I go out of the house with him, he doesn't wear them in the house where we run the heater (dreading the electricity bill).

    Especially #6 means for 99,9% of all parents to change their life completely. It seems so unlikely that a family can be stable with such a radical change in the behavior. How to even work in a proper job without using a smartphone in front of the baby. I hope we're doing it quite good but no screentime at all seems absurdly impossible to manage.
    I really want to see a family who's able to do this and not loose their job or the relationship of the parents and the connection with their friends and family.

    quick question: I live in an apartment where we struggle to keep up the heat during the Scandinavian winter, especially at floor level. I am always wearing sock or slippers as to not freeze. Should i still not give my 6 moths old socks on?

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi @Julie Wolf Skaarup I would give your little one socks. If you have carpet or a mat on the floor that will increase the fiction when your little one is attempting to crawl, stand and walk. If you have tiles or a slippery surface I would recommend getting socks with the rubber grip on them and make sure they fit well (so not too loose).

    Question about floor time: my baby absolutely refused floor time. He screamed bloody murder every time he was placed on the floor for his first six month. He did tummy time on me and I wore him in a carrier a lot, which I know is helpful, but I absolutely could not do floor time. Even when I was on the floor with him and right next to him he just screamed. We just couldn’t do it! He has thankfully outgrown that stage but I’m sure there are other babies that are similar. Would love your thoughts!

      @notsogreen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rachelbroughton6457 So how old was he when he was able to lift and support his head off the floor when on his tummy ?
      Maybe he was "used" to "the routine" of you putting him on his tummy, then him screaming and you picking him up. He was following the script.
      Milestones have been dumb downed through the decades. Then this year lowered again!
      Reaching milestones in the present day should be the least of one's expectations for their babies.
      Dumbing down milestones to make parents feel better may not be the best way to go. They should be 'alerts" for parents/ caregivers that suggest more attention is needed in a certain area of a child's development.

      I'm obviously not Emma, but I have twins that were born at 34w6d and are now 5.5 months old, so very similar in age/gestation to your baby. I was "warned" by the nurses to looks for many of their milestones, etc around their adjusted age, not actual age. So whilst their actual age is 5.5months, their adjusted age is only 4m1w. I hope that helps!
