Back in the day, when this album came out, we metalheads were shunned and demonized for the music we loved, because the general public were terrified of the imagery and aggressiveness of metal music. Little did they notice the virtuosity of the musicians putting out this great music. It’s great to see this generation rediscovering this great musical genre, decades later.

"I don't know what possessed them to be this hardcore."
They started in the early 70s and when this album came out in 1990 it, at the time, was supposed to be their final album. So they went all out with the most metal send off of all time. It didn't stick and they're currently preparing to tour their 50th anniversary. They are part of the Metal Trinity that started everything. The other two bands are Motorhead and Black Sabbath. Both of which are no more yet Priest continues on. They are the Metal gods. They've literally outlasted everyone.

    • @--CHARLIE--

@@--CHARLIE-- I think you may be right. I want to say in the Dio years Sabbath considered themselves Metal but I'm not anywhere near 100 percent sure of that. But Ozzy era definitely without a doubt considered themselves a rock band just like Motorhead did.

There's nothing trolling, pranking, or anything like that about any of the songs that have been recommended. These are all legit artists. Judas Priest were highly influential to the late 1970s and 1980s Metal scene. They are simply one of the greatest metal bands in history! Judging a band by their name is never a good thing to do.
You've listened to quite a lot of Metal on the channel, so the fast and heavy guitars shouldn't be new to you. If you can get used to that, then you can start to appreciate the skill of the musicians in the band. K.K Downing and Glenn Tipton are two of the greatest guitarists in Metal and the solos in this song are some of the greatest solos in Metal. In addition to them, Rob Halford is not only one of the greatest vocalists period, but he also started the trend of Leather-based fashion in the Metal community. They started a lot of shit in the genre and are quite easily the 2nd most important band in Metal, apart from Black Sabbath.
Regardless, I made a comment not loo long ago suggesting Judas Priest but I actually preferred you listen to some of their early work because it would be easier to get into before Painkiller. Some not-as-intense songs include Breaking The Law, Living After Midnight, You've Got Another Thing Coming, and Hell Bent For Leather, Victim Of Changes, and Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver.

The most special thing with this song is that there are no pause, no rest, it just goes on. And the next thing is that there is no beginning. It just starts. But ... there is an ending.

I really love this song so much. As a guitarist, the solo is a real treat for the ears. And it's hella difficult. Respect to anyone who can nail that solo. I've tried to play it many times over the years and I just never had the chops. Amazing song

Judas Priest has quite a few songs that can be about whatever the listener dreams them to be about. Some people might simplify it and think of Painkiller as some kind of narcotic that kills pain, or glorified drug dealer that is seen as a saviour to all those addicts. One may also see the painkiller as some kind of god the destroys evil, destroys the selfish, destroys the greedy, destroys slave masters etc, and makes the world a better place for the less fortunate and even better for the middle class.

  • @franktrainer169

This song took the grunge sound and Bitch slapped it , these 5 musicians somehow managed to all give the most bombastic, metal hammer to the head of their careers on this one . Halford still pulls this song off in his 70's.

This is Judas Priest, the godfathers of Metal, and the creators of the 'metal look'. Rob Halford, the lead singer, even performed with BabyMetal not that long ago because they wanted to perform with one of metal's greatest living legends.

Judas Priest's "Painkiller" album from 1990 is one of their most aggressive records in their catalog... the entire album is shredding from first to last! 🤘🤘🔥 From "Hell Patrol" to "One shot at glory"... even the single "A touch of evil" has a sinister tone to the song 🎃
