As someone who LOVED this music in the 90s and 00s, it makes me beyond happy to see kids today from all backgrounds appreciating this sound. 20 years ago, this kind of music was looked down on as "burnout music" and "stupid ass headbanger shit" and it really was EXCELLENT music! Cheers mate!

My favorite megadeth album. Talking about the media controlling the masses.
It is Dave's favorite too. When he was asked to rank his own albums on That Metal Show he ranked this one first and highlighted the songwriting. He is very proud of this album.
It a relevent as ever. The lyric about following the pied piper resonates definetly with where we are, as does the tone of the album in many respects. This was part of the appeal for me when this busted the charts. Still better than most metal I hear being pushed today

I like a lot of Megadeth songs...and I love this entire album. Dave's singing style isn't for everyone, but it's his sort of trademark snarl that sets them apart.

I love Dave's snarls, it's part of the reason I love Megadeth so much. His way of delivering his lyrics definitely packs a punch
I've seen them live repeatedly, and something very special about them is that they sound basically the same live as studio. Because they practice so relentlessly that they could probably perform all their songs while asleep without missing a note.

Hey, I made a comment just now suggesting Peace Sells. I think we need to seriously start a campaign for everyone to listen and read the LYRICS to it. I am a die hard fan of Megadeth. Even though it is an older tune I believe it needs to be heard and shared everywhere because it is still so incredibly important and relevant TODAY!! Ya, I love Metallica too but they just don't have the lyrical skills that Dave does. I also suggested him to listen to Breadline off Risk if for nothing more than to reach him that he needs to look deeper into the music. Megadeth isn't about keying cars or running crazy through a hospital and killing babies. Such in insult! I told him to ask his parent or grandparent what the Breadline was before listening to it. I said it wasn't heavy hard metal but it's lyrics were deep. I hinted that it was during the depression in America that we had something called a Breadline. Hopefully he does his homework. I'm also a die hard RUSH FAN too so knowing the music completely is so important otherwise why bother?

It makes you want to get up and do something, like smash your house or clean the house or drive down the highway at 125mph. Powerful stuff, be careful.

It's a song about how society too often gives obedience and control to too few and people and sometimes absolute power to one person and then the destructive aftermath that always unfolds.
Dave Mustain the songwriter, singer lead, and rhythm guitarist is a born-again Christian. You can decide for yourself how evil that makes him ( I myself am undecided ).
But as a Metal musician and composer, I rate him as one of the best. Check out Megadeth's first four albums for the true classic Megadeth sound!
The lyrics for me are as relevent if not more than ever. Referencing a simple folk line of the pied piper into a heavy but still melodic razor metal makes this into an ode unto itself
You always have the lyrics hanging out there... but you never seem to read them... the lyrics are just as important as EVERYTHING else when or comes to any music.
Especially with Megadeth!

Dave Mustaine leads the band, which is still going today. He got kicked out of Metallica before their first album for being a raging prick, but he then went on to form Megadeth and become one of the Big Four in Thrash (Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth). The early albums are great. You would probably get a kick out of Sweating Bullets, which is on the same album as Symphony of Destruction. Try some Anthrax too if you haven’t already. Madhouse gets a lot of reactions but Indians and I Am The Law are great introductions as well.

This is one where the video would’ve been helpful in showing what the song’s about. It actually has a deep message about how those in power are corrupted and how people follow them blindly and trust everything they say to be true. Sadly this is very relevant today.
This album came out when I was a high school senior and I had it on repeat forever. I was definitely not one who went to the hospital and slapped newborn babies. 😂 I got excellent grades and was a good girl, I guess you’d say, but music like this helped me get the aggression out and I rocked it. I got to meet Megadeth during this time and they were all really nice guys. I hope you dig into them more!
For me its relevent now lyrically. I enjoyed this same era as you , never considered slapping a baby. Newer metal bands still dont pull me in like hearing this for the first time.

There was another guitarist in Megadeth at this time. His name was Marty Friedman, and as good as Dave was on guitar, he always had somebody better in the band. Marty is one of the top virtuosos of all time. You should hear the album version of Hangar 18, or one of the live performances of it from the early '90s. There are over a dozen guitar solos in it between Mustaine and Friedman, and they're absolutely wild. David Ellefson played bass, and Nick Menza played drums. This was the most popular lineup. You're really gonna love the fast Megadeth songs, I have a feeling.
