I’m glad you plan on experiencing both, after about episodes 500 the anime gets painfully slow in some places though, I’d you want to stick to that and the anime dosent bother you then cool but just know that the pacing issues that start to happen in the 500s to current anime aren’t there in the manga. Anime is worth it due to the stellar music, voice acting, and just incredible animation once you reach the current anime arc
Batman sidekick I pray the next video gets up to or includes the jaya arc as I’m dead sure you won’t be dissapointed with it(plus it would be uninteresting to see a video solely about 8 filler episodes but more about jaya)

Good to see you covering both. The anime gets alot of shit cuz of some pacing issues that happen later on but if you ask me you'd be missing out batman's sidekick and alot of other stuff if you just cover the manga and the one piece anime is still pretty damn good, especially in like the first half of the series

But actually it was brought up back when Smoker first fought luffy in the east blue. The tip of his weapon had the same material, which was how he pinned down luffy before Dragon saved him. Anyway, glad you're enjoying the series.
I will say the parts you complained about, like the desert walk, the ancient temple, they're all filler so yeah you're perfectly correct, they're just there for the sake of slowing the pace down.
For me, it was cell, dbz, with how he’s introduced in a very menacing way-theme and all-as he is foreshadowed when an empty city is shown with pairs of clothing just scattered around; as if the people just vanished and the only remanent’s of their existence was their clothing. Then we get cell introduced, robocop style, as he drags and then “drinks” a person alive as their body begins to collapse melted ice cream style. *shivers.*
@@forastero54321 *Spoiler warning* I think Black Beard is more interesting because from everything we had heard, Teach was a brutal, evil pirate, yet when we first meet him he's just like Luffy, and we don't get a single idea that he's actually Black Beard until the end of Jaya, after his speech about dreams, honestly it's still one of the most iconic scenes in the entire series of One Piece.
32:26 The story of how that happened is in a manga cover story but the gist of it is : Jango and Fullbody meet on a party island and become fast friends , Jango gets arrested , Fullbody pleads for Jango to be let go , the Judge agrees if Jango joins the marines and Fullbody gets demoted , then they see and immediately fall in love with Hina
"Batmans sidecick" It will probably be a good idea to just cover one arc video going forward since most - but not all - of the coming arcs are going to be of similar lenghts as this one or longer . And if you're worried that will lose some people don't worry , One Piece fans always enjoy hearing new commers thoughts on the story
I'm kinda sad you didn't talk about the argument between Vivi and Luffy about going to try and fight Croc or talk to the rebels , it shows that Vivi does not want to accept that people will die and that Luffy isn't a complete idiot and knows that they have to go to the root of the problem
Just so you're aware, Ace hanging out with the Straw Hats and the adventures with the fake rebels and that one father are completely non-canon filler. In the manga, Ace gives Luffy that paper and heads off to continue looking for Blackbeard almost immediately after taking care of those ships. There's unfortunately a bunch of filler episodes in the desert that drag this arc out. Same with the episode where Luffy and his crew wind up at that underground temple and that episode with the one girl who had a beef with Vivi. Both are completely non-canon filler. (On a side note, the previous episodes alllllll the way back at Logue Town with Sanji's cooking competition and Usopp's showdown with that Daddy guy are also non-canon. In the manga, they just buy their fish and new goggles. The one with Sanji in particular I feel is important to point out as it makes it seem like the All Blue is just something he heard from other chefs on a ship he was working on as a kid, which is not how he actually learned about it. OP doesn't have much filler episodes but the ones it does have can REALLY mess up the plot if you take them seriously. Which is why I still think you should be aware of which episodes are canon and filler even if you're going to watch both.) On a side note, while OP doesn't have that many full filler episodes, it is chock full of a different type of filler. The "drag on scenes to fill as much time as possible" filler. Seeing some of your complains, it looks to me like you're already kind of feeling the effects of it. And unfortunately it's only going to get worse from here on out. Because the entire point of any kind of filler is to keep the anime from catching up to the manga. And, especially right now, the manga and anime are EXTERMELY close to each other. They're literally at the same exact arc currently. Honestly, I think OP should stop being a weekly thing and become a seasonal thing like My Hero Academia is doing. But that'd mean losing out on profit, so I doubt they'd ever do that. Maybe hopefully we'll get a full reboot after the series' conclusion where they take all the fat out. One can only hope. Anyway, the point is that the dragging out of arcs is going to keep getting worse in the anime and it's no doubt going to hurt rankings of future arcs that are absolutely great in the manga. I don't blame you if you decide to stick to the anime, but if you ever do get to the point where the dragging out hurts the pace too much for you to enjoy the story (which unfortunately happened to others who ended up switching to the manga instead), no one would blame you for deciding to use the manga or One Pace for the rest of your reviews. The pacing gets really REALLY bad in the next arc, which causes some people to outright hated the arc itself unfortunately. And it'll only get worse. As for the scene in the bath, the reason for scenes like that in general for anime like this is that it's a shounen, as in the target audience is boys, so they're going to have fan service like this. Much like shoujo anime (targeted towards girls) is usually full of pretty boys. Not trying to defend it, as I do agree that stuff like this is a trend that needs to finally end, but that is the reason why it's shoved into anime like this. Plus you got to remember that this episode aired yeeeeeaaaaaaaars ago in a completely different culture than the US. Though I'd say OP has some of the least worst fan service out there in all honesty. And yeah, the "character dies but then it turns out he's actually alive" is pretty annoying. But I do think it becomes less and less often as the series goes on. At the very least, I don't think it ever gets as bad as, say, Fairy Tail. And OP thankfully does have characters who die and stay dead (unlike, once again, Fairy Tail).
21:25 This is the biggest issue of One Piece , Oda backpedals on certain non-flashback deaths (most of them in the pretimeskip , but not all of them) because he wants the arcs to end on happier notes , thankfully he's aware of the issue and has gotten better at this in recent times
I also think the „Robin“ kills were never supposed to be kills for both Pell and Igaram. The reason why Pell didn’t die with a Bomb is probably (100% speculation by me) that the chapter where this happened in the manga was released pretty much right after 9/11 so he probably didn’t want to open too many wounds for his audience. In my mind this was just a censorship decision to be sensitive to recent events and in my mind he died there saving the population of Alabasta just like he promised Vivi he would

the bathhouse scene reaction is to be expected i guess, but just remember how old this series is, and also japan is a much different culture that is more ahead but also behind in some social interactions especially in media, im not saying to ignore it, but there is more stuff like that especially with sanji just to keep in mind moving forward.

I’ve always been under the impression because you find out what Robin’s power is that the hands you see are her throwing iggarom in the ocean. I was a little surprised to see that you didn’t mention the kings guards who took a potion to get extra strength, but just end up dying before ever touching crocodile, but glad you’re enjoying the series. I have caught up to one piece like 4 or 5 years ago and i have already forgotten a lot of things, this review helped me remember the important events of alabasta, will definitly be watching the next reviews since i'm too lazy to rewatch the whole show
This is kind off universally acknowledged as the arc where One Piece picks up, you have Crocodile who’s the first actual good villain, Alabasta the first island with an actual personality,. The writing and animation only improves from here

I disagree with the statement that scenes like the bathhouse scene shouldn’t be in media. As a woman the scene doesn’t bother me. As a kid I found it really funny. Of course such actions are unacceptable in real life. I already knew that as a kid and I think everyone watching fictional shows should be able to differentiate between fiction and reality. It’s the parents responsibility to judge if their children are ready for certain content and to discuss it with them if need be. If anyone copies unacceptable, bad actions from fiction they are to be held accountable for their behavior. They are the ones to blame - never the author. Fiction and especially manga is there to explore things that can’t be done in real life or life action shows. An author uses fiction as a safe medium to experiment with different things. Comedy is always a hit or miss and it’s completely fine to find some things uncomfortable or disgusting. Trying to tell an author not to include things goes to far though. We might as well cut out all the gruesome violence One Piece has. Cut out the protagonist, who’s a terrible role model as he shows little interest in education. He charges into situations impulsively with only one goal, disregarding how he destroys entire towns in the process. The glorification of meat in times of climate crisis is not a good thing either. There are tons of things that are not alright, but in fiction we can enjoy people punching and kicking each other to near death with miraculously little to no lasting effects. Apparently you can even survive a bombing. There are plenty jokes in OP that don’t convince ne either. I personally find poop, fart and burp jokes disgusting, others love them... the good by far outweighs the bad and if there was more I disliked than enjoyed I could always say “this show is not for me. I’m nor part of the target group for this content” and go find something else. I’d never ever thing about telling an author to exclude something. Perhaps their content simply isn’t for as large of an audience as some people think it is. I always liked the bath house scene because Nami is such a powerful character. She’s the one who goes out of the situation as a winner! She’s not ashamed of her body- as she should. Nudity is nothing to be ashamed of. She turns the game around and even exposes herself more, out of her own free will and tells them they now owe her money. And for anyone weirded out about the King looking to his daughters side I can only shrug. I grew up swimming and bathing/saunaing with family members. Nudity is something natural. The King was focused on Nami in the scene.
So after this arc there was manga only cover story where Mr5 , Ms Valentine and Ms Painter agent whose name I forgot try to save the rest of the officer agents after find out they were captured ( they read it in the newspaper ) and managed to free Mr4 and the female agents but failed to rescue Croc and Mr 1 ( Mr2 wasn't on the same ship ) . Miss I forgot her name also uses her powers to show them their dreams , which are : Croc - Roger/pirate king ; Mr1 - superhero ; Mr 4 - pizza delivery guy , Mr5 - fire-fighter ; Ms Valentine - chocolate girl and I forgot what Ms's Double Finger and Christmas ( I'll check after the video )

I honestly really relate to your opinions on the Alabasta saga. It was almost as epic as it promised, and many of the highs were fantastic, but it never hit the absolute peak that was Arlong Park for me. Also, I know I’m four months late, but Batman’s sidekick!
I think that Vivi's send-off hits WAAAY harder in the manga. It's in my top 5 fav moments in One-Piece! I highly recommend checking out the manga at some point later in your life - One Piece, being as long as it is, is still infinitely re-watchable/re-readable. I've watched the first half of the anime twice and read the whole manga twice till chapter 800 them till up-to-date. Did NOT find it boring.
Definitely agree with many of the critiques you give. Death in One Piece... can just be better. There's no reason for them to come back, especially since them coming back cheapens their sacrifice. Like... you could've just had someone else replace Ingram when he brought the child. I think I heard Oda doesn't like deaths because it would feel like you can't "celebrate at the end of the arc"... but you totally could and even celebrate because of their sacrifice, and their deaths would have so much more meaning. And Sanji's pervertedness is definitely an archetype of older anime tropes that I'm glad are being phased out. After all, you can desire women without being creepy about it. Personally, I found the arc equally as good as your S tier arcs. While it doesn't always have the emotional highs, it has the story highs (i.e. Crocodile as a villain, world building, Vivi screaming, etc.), so it's equally as good for different reasons (for me). And I definitely think this is a good style! I feel like you brought up the moments you found most interesting and made sure to comment on it! I personally don't like it when the audience pressures (or a creator feels pressured) to make their videos full recaps... when they don't need to do that; they should focus on just saying their thoughts, highlights, favorite moments, comments, guesses, etc. since I find that more original and interesting (just stating a broad statement; not specifically targeting you). PS: I can't wait to see more from the new crew member, Batman's side kick!
Iragram I’m fine with surviving since it was pretty clear Robin was the one who blew up the boat, and it makes sense that she spared him on account of not being loyal to crocodile, not to mention that it could make her unsympathetic if she actually just killed Iragram. Pell though, yeah he should just be dead.

Personally, Mr4/Ms Merrychristmas vs Usopp/Chopper was my favorite battle. You kinda expect them both to back down easy but they managed to pull through especially Usopp. Plus I hate that old hag so her being hit by a 4 ton bat was satisfying af. And Usopp did manage to beat a strong opponent without using a cheap trick.
Man when I was a kid, I legit thought Merry was killed by Kuro and Nojiko was killed by rat guy. Then surprise pikachu face when they appeared fine in later episodes
i'm fairrrrrly certain you mistook what that commenter meant about death in One Piece, while fake out deaths are a problem, he was trying to tell you to be ready for them and that to only expect death when it is a much greater importance than it would've been here. Outside of flashbacks, character deaths are going to mean way more for the story and plot. Also, as you know, the series is long...super long. There are going to be a massive amount of details and story beats that don't seem to mean anything in the moment because well, they aren't. This is a very long and well-connected story where when you encounter something in the story it will almost certainly have been alluded to or the clues were there the whole time. In the future hopefully you'll come across something in the story to where you think back on that little (filler) scene with the block, and you may not think its so pointless after all. That's just an example but i assure you there have been dozens of little things like that in the story that slipped your mind since that's kind of the point, its rewarding for the observant reader to find these clues and make meaningful connections.
I’ll agree that the pell fakeout was the cheapest in one piece. The reason for this was because oda stated that when he was younger he hated when favorite characters were killed off, so he wanted to do something different with one piece. But don’t worry, oda takes it down a notch as the series continues.

Yeah, fake out deaths is one of the biggest complaint in one piece community, and everyone agrees that Pell should have died in that giant explosion P.S. filler episodes are the episodes which do not actually connect with other parts of stories And most of the complainants you had for the disconnected sections in first half of alabasta was because they were filler

@@Koroto oda doesn't kill characters that much because the more we've gotten into the story, the more we understand that the deaths come with a significant change to either the world of one piece or the characters. killing characters left and right just kills (bah-dum tss) that feeling.
Pell's "death" was in chapter 208 which came in November 2001, just two months after the 9/11 terrorist attack, I think that's why oda didn't want to end the arc on a sad note.
One thing that is mentioned later (not really a spoiler but if you dont want the info for later then heads up) that theres only like one island that can find and form sea prisim stone so its not as common in general
I agree with your critic of the deaths. And with Pel’s explosion from what I gathered, was published around the time of 9/11 and Oda thought it would have been in poor taste to have him die in one. Similar to the tentacruel destroying a city episode in Pokémon being banned for a similar reason
My only gripe in an otherwise good video is how the faith that old man had in his king allowing luffy to figure out a way to beat croc was not covered or not realized..

There is a recipe book of most of the dishes from the One Piece Anime out there for purchase. Though, Luffy's Meat on the Bone is a renamed Scotch Egg.
I don't think the bathhouse scene was that big of a deal, just some harmless and silly fan service. Since nobody's being hurt I don't feel like comparing it to recent controversies in the gaming industry is really fair or justified.

In the manga, they just buy their fish and new goggles. The one with Sanji in particular I feel is important to point out as it makes it seem like the All Blue is just something he heard from other chefs on a ship he was working on as a kid, which is not how he actually learned about it. OP doesn't have much filler episodes but the ones it does have can REALLY mess up the plot if you take them seriously. Which is why I still think you should be aware of which episodes are canon and filler even if you're going to watch both.)
On a side note, while OP doesn't have that many full filler episodes, it is chock full of a different type of filler. The "drag on scenes to fill as much time as possible" filler. Seeing some of your complains, it looks to me like you're already kind of feeling the effects of it. And unfortunately it's only going to get worse from here on out. Because the entire point of any kind of filler is to keep the anime from catching up to the manga. And, especially right now, the manga and anime are EXTERMELY close to each other. They're literally at the same exact arc currently. Honestly, I think OP should stop being a weekly thing and become a seasonal thing like My Hero Academia is doing. But that'd mean losing out on profit, so I doubt they'd ever do that. Maybe hopefully we'll get a full reboot after the series' conclusion where they take all the fat out. One can only hope. Anyway, the point is that the dragging out of arcs is going to keep getting worse in the anime and it's no doubt going to hurt rankings of future arcs that are absolutely great in the manga. I don't blame you if you decide to stick to the anime, but if you ever do get to the point where the dragging out hurts the pace too much for you to enjoy the story (which unfortunately happened to others who ended up switching to the manga instead), no one would blame you for deciding to use the manga or One Pace for the rest of your reviews. The pacing gets really REALLY bad in the next arc, which causes some people to outright hated the arc itself unfortunately. And it'll only get worse.
As for the scene in the bath, the reason for scenes like that in general for anime like this is that it's a shounen, as in the target audience is boys, so they're going to have fan service like this. Much like shoujo anime (targeted towards girls) is usually full of pretty boys. Not trying to defend it, as I do agree that stuff like this is a trend that needs to finally end, but that is the reason why it's shoved into anime like this. Plus you got to remember that this episode aired yeeeeeaaaaaaaars ago in a completely different culture than the US. Though I'd say OP has some of the least worst fan service out there in all honesty.
And yeah, the "character dies but then it turns out he's actually alive" is pretty annoying. But I do think it becomes less and less often as the series goes on. At the very least, I don't think it ever gets as bad as, say, Fairy Tail. And OP thankfully does have characters who die and stay dead (unlike, once again, Fairy Tail).

I also think the „Robin“ kills were never supposed to be kills for both Pell and Igaram. The reason why Pell didn’t die with a Bomb is probably (100% speculation by me) that the chapter where this happened in the manga was released pretty much right after 9/11 so he probably didn’t want to open too many wounds for his audience.

I don’t like commenting multiple times but in One Piece characters first name is their family name and their last name is their given name. The D is something that’s very mysterious and figuring out what it means is kind off a bonus to reaching the final island
I think that is the common naming system in Japan and is thus the case in most japanese anime, where the family name comes before given name

9:21 Well this did have some fillers , in the manga Ace gave Luffy the paper and then left right after he destroyed the BW fleet but they decided to have him tag along for a few episodes in the anime , also the temble at 11:19 is also filler
the bathhouse scene reaction is to be expected i guess, but just remember how old this series is, and also japan is a much different culture that is more ahead but also behind in some social interactions especially in media, im not saying to ignore it, but there is more stuff like that especially with sanji just to keep in mind moving forward.

Just so you know, the bath scene was designed as a means for King Cobra to bow to Luffy in thanks for saving their nation, something he couldn't do in public to a commoner, let alone a criminal, i.e. a pirate. I’ve always been under the impression because you find out what Robin’s power is that the hands you see are her throwing iggarom in the ocean. I was a little surprised to see that you didn’t mention the kings guards who took a potion to get extra strength, but just end up dying before ever touching crocodile, but glad you’re enjoying the series. I actually start on your way later videos I’m just catching up now.
I have caught up to one piece like 4 or 5 years ago and i have already forgotten a lot of things, this review helped me remember the important events of alabasta, will definitly be watching the next reviews since i'm too lazy to rewatch the whole show
This is kind off universally acknowledged as the arc where One Piece picks up, you have Crocodile who’s the first actual good villain, Alabasta the first island with an actual personality,. The writing and animation only improves from here

I disagree with the statement that scenes like the bathhouse scene shouldn’t be in media. As a woman the scene doesn’t bother me. As a kid I found it really funny. Of course such actions are unacceptable in real life. I already knew that as a kid and I think everyone watching fictional shows should be able to differentiate between fiction and reality. It’s the parents responsibility to judge if their children are ready for certain content and to discuss it with them if need be. If anyone copies unacceptable, bad actions from fiction they are to be held accountable for their behavior. They are the ones to blame - never the author.
Fiction and especially manga is there to explore things that can’t be done in real life or life action shows. An author uses fiction as a safe medium to experiment with different things. Comedy is always a hit or miss and it’s completely fine to find some things uncomfortable or disgusting. Trying to tell an author not to include things goes to far though. We might as well cut out all the gruesome violence One Piece has. Cut out the protagonist, who’s a terrible role model as he shows little interest in education. He charges into situations impulsively with only one goal, disregarding how he destroys entire towns in the process. The glorification of meat in times of climate crisis is not a good thing either. There are tons of things that are not alright, but in fiction we can enjoy people punching and kicking each other to near death with miraculously little to no lasting effects. Apparently you can even survive a bombing.
There are plenty jokes in OP that don’t convince ne either. I personally find poop, fart and burp jokes disgusting, others love them... the good by far outweighs the bad and if there was more I disliked than enjoyed I could always say “this show is not for me. I’m nor part of the target group for this content” and go find something else. I’d never ever thing about telling an author to exclude something. Perhaps their content simply isn’t for as large of an audience as some people think it is.
I always liked the bath house scene because Nami is such a powerful character. She’s the one who goes out of the situation as a winner! She’s not ashamed of her body- as she should. Nudity is nothing to be ashamed of. She turns the game around and even exposes herself more, out of her own free will and tells them they now owe her money.
And for anyone weirded out about the King looking to his daughters side I can only shrug. I grew up swimming and bathing/saunaing with family members. Nudity is something natural. The King was focused on Nami in the scene.
So after this arc there was manga only cover story where Mr5 , Ms Valentine and Ms Painter agent whose name I forgot try to save the rest of the officer agents after find out they were captured ( they read it in the newspaper ) and managed to free Mr4 and the female agents but failed to rescue Croc and Mr 1 ( Mr2 wasn't on the same ship ) . Miss I forgot her name also uses her powers to show them their dreams , which are : Croc - Roger/pirate king ; Mr1 - superhero ; Mr 4 - pizza delivery guy , Mr5 - fire-fighter ; Ms Valentine - chocolate girl and I forgot what Ms's Double Finger and Christmas ( I'll check after the video )

I honestly really relate to your opinions on the Alabasta saga. It was almost as epic as it promised, and many of the highs were fantastic, but it never hit the absolute peak that was Arlong Park for me. Also, I know I’m four months late, but Batman’s sidekick!

I think that Vivi's send-off hits WAAAY harder in the manga. It's in my top 5 fav moments in One-Piece!
I highly recommend checking out the manga at some point later in your life - One Piece, being as long as it is, is still infinitely re-watchable/re-readable. I've watched the first half of the anime twice and read the whole manga twice till chapter 800 them till up-to-date.

Death in One Piece... can just be better. There's no reason for them to come back, especially since them coming back cheapens their sacrifice. Like... you could've just had someone else replace Ingram when he brought the child. I think I heard Oda doesn't like deaths because it would feel like you can't "celebrate at the end of the arc"... but you totally could and even celebrate because of their sacrifice, and their deaths would have so much more meaning.
And Sanji's pervertedness is definitely an archetype of older anime tropes that I'm glad are being phased out. After all, you can desire women without being creepy about it.
Personally, I found the arc equally as good as your S tier arcs. While it doesn't always have the emotional highs, it has the story highs (i.e. Crocodile as a villain, world building, Vivi screaming, etc.), so it's equally as good for different reasons (for me).
And I definitely think this is a good style! I feel like you brought up the moments you found most interesting and made sure to comment on it! I personally don't like it when the audience pressures (or a creator feels pressured) to make their videos full recaps... when they don't need to do that; they should focus on just saying their thoughts, highlights, favorite moments, comments, guesses, etc. since I find that more original and interesting (just stating a broad statement; not specifically targeting you).
PS: I can't wait to see more from the new crew member, Batman's side kick!
Iragram I’m fine with surviving since it was pretty clear Robin was the one who blew up the boat, and it makes sense that she spared him on account of not being loyal to crocodile, not to mention that it could make her unsympathetic if she actually just killed Iragram. Pell though, yeah he should just be dead.

Man when I was a kid, I legit thought Merry was killed by Kuro and Nojiko was killed by rat guy. Then surprise pikachu face when they appeared fine in later episodes
i'm fairrrrrly certain you mistook what that commenter meant about death in One Piece, while fake out deaths are a problem, he was trying to tell you to be ready for them and that to only expect death when it is a much greater importance than it would've been here. Outside of flashbacks, character deaths are going to mean way more for the story and plot. Also, as you know, the series is long...super long. There are going to be a massive amount of details and story beats that don't seem to mean anything in the moment because well, they aren't. This is a very long and well-connected story where when you encounter something in the story it will almost certainly have been alluded to or the clues were there the whole time. In the future hopefully you'll come across something in the story to where you think back on that little (filler) scene with the block, and you may not think its so pointless after all. That's just an example but i assure you there have been dozens of little things like that in the story that slipped your mind since that's kind of the point, its rewarding for the observant reader to find these clues and make meaningful connections.

The reason for this was because oda stated that when he was younger he hated when favorite characters were killed off, so he wanted to do something different with one piece. But don’t worry, oda takes it down a notch as the series continues.

Pell's "death" was in chapter 208 which came in November 2001, just two months after the 9/11 terrorist attack, I think that's why oda didn't want to end the arc on a sad note.
