    The story of Enel actually continues after this arc, but it is NEVER shown in the anime. So whenever you feel like seeing more of Enel, you should look up "Enel's Great Space Operations Cover Story." It is a collection of cover pages from the manga that detail Enel's misadventures post-Skypiea, and it actually has major implications for the overall story of One Piece.

    No Devil Fruit exists more than once at the same time, so the man in Loguetown and Eneru do not have the same fruit. There are some Devil Fruits that have similar powers - some of which are weaker or beefed-up versions of the first ones you'll see.

      Honestly I think Dragon's devil fruit, if he has one, is so kind of storm storm fruit. So a beefed-up version of Enaru's fruit, probably with added wind and rain powers. Or maybe a paramethia type with storm powers, or mythical zoan even, like a thunderbird or an actual dragon(though that's not likely after Wano). Like you said, it can't be the *same* power, but there's a lot of ways it can be functionally the same anyway.

    Just wanted to note since you seemed to missed it: Eneru and his priests were'nt from Skypea, but rather from Birka, a different sky island (the Birkans have a different wing shape than the Skypeans) - they say that after Eneru got his devil fruit and his priests, he destroyed Birka and moved to Skypea (kicking Gan Fall out)

    "why exactly does he need a ship again?"
    because he's a man of opulence and not utility. he believes himself to be a god. as with many people with god complexes, he opts for grandiosity whenever possible.
    9:11 to answer your question, Luffy is very much the type to come up with new moves on the fly. it's rare to see Luffy practicing or training on camera even when he does think of them. his creativity is what makes his power as effective as it is. Zoro had a focus on being able to cut steel for 2 reasons.
    1.) it's a goal marker for any aspiring swordsman. his path to the top couldn't be realized without it
    2.) the opponent, with whom he was in a lethal battle, demanded it. it was sink or swim.
    Mantra is a concept that's yet to be expounded upon, but it's not inconsistent just because Gedatsu seemingly can't use it. trust that Oda has a plan. just about everything he introduces has a through line.
    "if he was born atop Skypiea, where did the devil fruit even come from?"
    why do you assume devil fruits are exclusive to the blue sea? you've yet to learn their origin.

      Pretty sure Oda has confirmed that devil fruit powers need some kind of "energy" to work, so his flying boat thing is probably more efficient and/or can burn other fuel so he doesn't have to keep exerting himself 24/7. And it's revealed in cover stories that Eneru went to the moon(idk if that was his goal, or "land of infinite vearth" so may be irrelevant to his planes but...) and electricity can't move through a vacuum(unless it becomes light or magnetism, but those are different devil fruits) so that could be the reason. As for why his so to be space ship is gigantic, needlessly elaborate, and covered in pointless golden bullshit, that's his ego (and an excuse for him to actually be a threat to Luffy)

    Skypiea is a great arc that gets even better after every arc. It has a LOT of little mysteries that becomes relevant later on.
    The thing I notice with One Piece is that it doesn’t like to info Dump(ling) the audience. Like you won’t have a character explain in full detail their abilities and how they use it, which would break the immersion of the fight or scene.

    Nami's waver is more powerful because it uses the superior but basically extinct Jet dial rather than a Wind/Air dial. We only see one other Jet Dial in the show which is used by Gedatsu. Nami waver was found in the wreckage of a centuries old ship, obviously Jet dials were still around back then. It's not a hint really.

    Luffy is made out of rubber so most of these new moves are combos of already known moves or just basic implementations of his df. Eg:- Gomu gomu no kazagaruma - roots his feet in the concrete to give him a foothold then contorts his body to generate potential energy then actually spins around while holding a heavy object to convert it to kinetic energy destroying everything around him(Basic implementation). Gomu gomu no screwnigibiglah- Gomu gomu no bazooka + same spinning mech as the last one but just with his hands. The one you mentioned- Gomu gomu no fuusen+ Gomu gomu no gatling gun + spinning mech.

It used to frustrate me as well, but I’m on episode 815 now, and I’m just kinda used to it at this point. Would definitely say the best way to go about it is to accept it and move on, because for me at least, dwelling on it was almost painful lol.

    The mantra thing will be explained later on. This is an introduction to the concept and is supposed to be unclear.
    When it comes to new moves, I think the story makes it clear when it is suppose to be notable. Some moves are just for fun and and variety, others are to give the SHs a clear power up or the ability to do something they where unable to do before. See zoro last arc vs the moment with Luffy that promted the question. The move in the beginning of the arc was just something neat. It was not like Luffy would be unable to deal with them without that move.
    There might be some weird moves in the anime filler, idk. Have only read the manga.

  • @Azazreal
    @Azazreal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    New moves are a weird subject. They usually come up with new ones pretty often as they acquire new tech and pass fights. They will combo moves as well later on. However, this isnt really important as the individual named moves arent as major as they are in other anime. They arent always the big enders to fights, you will tend to see some moves much more often such as Gum gum pistol but its the techniques that matter more. What i mean by this is that they will also stick to their theme, Zoro wont start doing kung fu and nami wont become a staff wielding ninja, they will always stick to their roles in the group, this gets much easier to spot as the crew grows and the slots become more set in stone especially for the power trio.
    One thing to note though is, when you asked the question it was regarding Luffy doing the '''' as you didnt think we had seen it before, which technically is true but in reality we have as its just a further variation on his Gomu Gomu no Storm, which again was a variation on the Gomu Gomu no Fusen (first he goes balloon, then he twists, then he starts punching). This is basically how Luffy fights, he constantly tries new things and if it works, tries it again but with more steps. He will straight up just try and copy other people as well but in his own way, like when he just straight up tries to eat Crocodile using the Gomu Gomu no Baku Baku
    Heh you think Enel is the strongest, oh sweet child we arent even in the New World yet haha its so much fun hearing you having theories that sometimes are pretty close and sometimes oof, miles out. xD

    The moment where Luffy rings the bell and it is heard throughout skypiea and all the way to the blue sea to mock town is so powerful.
    - It signified the end of the conflict between the Shandians and the Skypieans (the song of the Vearth if i remember corrently)
    - Cricket, the descendant of Norland heard the sound of the bell and he finally knew that Norland never lied and that the golden city existed and it ended the promise between Norland and calgara through their descendants which were Cricket and Wyper.
    - It was a message to the non-dreaming pirates down at Mock town
    Skypiea is an absolutely fantastic arc and its the type of arc which gets much better once you re-read it after catching up.

    Glad to see you enjoyed this arc! Between Luffy getting stuck in the snake, the dumpling fight, and the fact that it is almost completely removed from everything else, many people write this arc off as filler. In my opinion, though, it's one of the most thematically relevant arcs to the entire series and only gets more and more important as we go on.
    Some observations, answers, and clearing up things that you missed:
    9:30 I think you're mixing up the ideas of "new moves" with "new techniques". Luffy's Gum Gum Fireworks is just another instance of him finding a fun way to punch and kick. He's incredibly clever and very good at coming up with new ways to apply his powers in the midst of battle. Gum Gum Octo Fireworks in his fight with Eneru is a perfect example, figuring out that he can use the ricochet of his blows against the gold to bypasd Eneru's mantra. Contrast this to Zoro learning to cut steel or figuring out the 36/72/108 Pound Phoenix/Caliber Cannon. These are new levels of power that help him to overcome obsticles in his path and shore up his weaknesses rather than just fancy ways to swing a sword. The series tends to be pretty good about making the distinction between the two.
    13:00 On Mantra: we see that it can be used to predict movements and locate people. However, it is not quite that simple. Its mentioned here that mantra can be "strong" or "weak", can be trained and improved, and, most importantly, losing your focus can turn it off. Satori lost track of Luffy when he was caught up with fear about the ball dragon exploding in his face. Additionally, we see that even with fantastic mantra, just reading your opponent doesn't mean you can do anything about it. Eneru got this twice. Once when he was catching his breath and couldn't dodge Luffy's Rifle attack, and then with Luffy's Golden Rifle at the end being too fast for him to dodge out of the way. It can also be blocked as Eneru couldn't sense Luffy or Aisa while they were stuck in the snake.
    13:24 Eneru's prediction wasn't mantra. It was him playing god and prophesying that only five would remain, then moving out to make it a reality.
    16:30 The shot with the crew partying with the wolves is Oda's third favorite panel in the series, and the reason he wrote Skypiea to begin with.
    17:15 The only people on Skypiea who know what the Merry looked like are the Straw Hats themselves. Who could have fixed her? Its a mystery~
    20:25 The waver they found was a broken one they found from 200 years ago when the ship fell at the start of Jaya if i remember correctly. Furthermore, Gan Fall states at the start of the arc that there are other sky islands. We see the difference in technology as the Skypieas/Shandians use the local impact dials while Eneru's men use axe dials from Birka, as well as Eneru using jet dials on the Maxim to keep it afloat when Sanji breaks it instead of breath dials. Speaking of Birka...
    21:10 Eneru and his forces were born on Birka, another sky island, which is information given to Conis by Captain McKinley. You can actually tell the difference as their wings are different from the Skypieans and Shandians. Six years ago Eneru used the power of his devil fruit and destroyed his homeland, then came to Skypiea, deposed Gan Fall, and set himself up as god of Skypiea.
    21:10 As stated above, Eneru was born in Birka. But beyond that, the Rumble Rumble Fruit isn't the only devil fruit on display this arc. Gan Fall's bird Pierre ate the Horse Horse Fruit. Presumably they just found the devil fruit like anyone else would have. Though there are theories about Eneru's fruit in particular.
    21:55 Eneru needs a ship for three reasons. The last I'll save for a bit later. First, though, he intended to take four others with him to Fairy/Endless Bearth, so he needed a way to transport them. More importantly, even if he could just zap himself to the moon, why do that when you can ride there in style and put in a lot less work?
    31:20 I don't think the populaace was brainwashed. I always got the sense that they always knew that Eneru was bad, but paid lip service to him to keep their asses covered. It's stated multiple times that Eneru only set up shop 6 years ago, so most people would remember Gan Fall being overthrown. Captain McKinley even tells Conis "We're not stupid. We know what kind of man Eneru is."
    32:00 This is the third purpose of Maxim. This isn't smoke. Rather, it's producing thunderclouds. Eneru is powerful on his own, but he's far more powerful when he can simply manipulate vast quantities of "natural" lightning instead of needing to generate it himself. His Raigou/Raikou/Kingdom Come attack would be impossible without the Maxim's clouds. Think of it as a similar reason for Crocodile being more powerful in a desert.
    36:10 It has yet to be adapted anywhere else, but Eneru's adventure continues in the cover stories in the manga. Eneru's Great Space Operations have him going to the moon and learning some very interesting things about the past...
    I'd go more into a discussion on your take on the religous themes, but this comment is long enough, my thumbs are getting tired from typing on mobile, and i need to get back to work. Hopefully I remember to come back when I get home.
    Looking forward to the next saga! It contains what once was my favorite arc in the series!

    Three things…
    First, I applaud your understanding, and bravery in addressing the religious themes. The way Oda handles these themes is one of the reasons why Skypiea is one of my top five arcs. The fact that you put this at number 1, tells me you are truly a bright soul.
    Second, without spoiling, mantra only works if the user has a calm mind. Gedatsu was just too much of an idiot to utilize it effectively.
    Lastly, your theory on what the One Piece could be, is literally my own personal theory as well. I’ve posted it in various OP groups, and even commented it on youtube. I’d love to treat you to a DUMPLING some day, because we’re definitely kindred spirits.

    The "mantra" and devil fruit types will be explained in time, Enel can move at the speed of lighting and creates momento on air but I don't think he can fly. I believe Dragon has the power to control the wind which allows him to move the clouds and create storms. Even thought the sky people dont know much about the world bellow they mention travel ships that travel across sky islands, maybe one of those ships had enel devil fruit. Im glad u liked this arc, a lot of people think this arc is meh compared to arabasta. Next comes my favorite filler of all then my least favorite canon arc.

Even hundreds of episodes after that arc he'd go back and point out how a few more minor details actually mattered.

    I'm making a list of flying/"flying" devil fruits starting from the Alabasta part 2 video.
    Despite how many weird abilities show up in Skypiea, only 2 of them are devil fruits.
    Firstly an interesting case with, Pierre. He can fly. He does have a devil fruit. However, he is a bird that ate the horse horse fruit, so him flying isn't from a devil fruit.
    Next is Eneru/Enel, like previously mentioned Logia fruits his elemental abilities let him fly. And as pointed out in the video, he can fly quite a bit faster than anyone shown so far. And while I don't use advanced info that shows up later in the anime, that doesn't currently include Eneru's cover story, so it's fair game. Therefore I'll count that when he uses his powers through his flying boat, arch, spaceship, thing he can fly all the way to the moon. And if you think about it, that's basically *double* flight.
    Flying devil fruit equivalent: 7.2

    "Why does Enel need a ship."
    Because he's made of lightning and wants to go to outer space. Where there are no molecules to have the lightning until he reaches the moon.
    On EARTH he doesn't need a ship, but he didn't build the ship for earth. TBH I'm not sure his ship could get him there either. He'd probably be better off grabbing a ball of metal and launching it with a magnetic coil, with him inside as an electric charge. But maybe he wants nice things on the moon when he gets there.

    I personally don't care about the the lack of main characters dying in One Piece. One Piece is not Game of Thrones, I don't need to see Chopper on a spike. One Piece may not have a lot of death, but it has something other Shonen mostly don't bother with, emotional stakes.
    In One Piece death is not everything at stake, usually I care deeply about the characters and the outfall of the fights. Contras it with the last seasons of Bleach or Naruto - an endless horde of irrelevant characters you mostly don't care about with flashy abilities in cool fights with lots of death.
    In Dragon Ball, I don't chare if the galaxy was disintegrated, or if all Gokus family gets lasered in half. In One Piece I care if a pet food store is destroyed - and it does get destroyed, forever. Not returned with magic powers or some bullshit. In One Piece there are meaningful losses, not just death. But as you are not very far in One Piece, maybe you should not discount the possibility of main characters dying just yet.

    • @creativename6126
      @creativename6126 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Understand he is still in the arcs where there are not any real stakes, yeah the freedom of an island but he knows Oda isn’t about to just genocide an island and have the strawhats actually click off if you don’t want spoilers
      I lied so he wouldn’t read this far, when characters do die it’s met to be a really big deal, Ace and Whitebeards deaths are pretty much the only major deaths in the series and they changed everything

    • @lordofedge
      @lordofedge 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@creativename6126 I disagree. As I exemplified above, there are bigger more meaningful stakes in One Piece, than in most other Shonen. Sure, the universe is not on the line. But things you care about are (like the pet food store in Orange Town). In shows like Dragon Ball, who really cares about a universe getting blowed up? I don't. They are just gonna magic it back anyways.

      granted, it's just that oda only kills characters when there will be big story implications moving forward from it, so after repeated fakeouts you start to notice the pattern and wonder why he does it in the first place. i think oda himself realized this so it happens less recently

    • @alonedownthere47
      @alonedownthere47 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's not that i think it needs to be game of thrones, it's just that the fakeouts aren't good writing. the cool thing about one piece being so long and starting when oda was in his early 20s is that you get to watch him grow out of stuff like that and become a better writer. well, one of the cool things lol

I actually wouldn't mind if the next episode is just on G-8 cuz, even though it's a filler, its amazing and the only part of the anime I've watched (other than episode 480) and it somehow has foreshadowing even though it's filler. • @magacofi
    @magacofi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Holy cow. You mentioning that the waiver Nami had in the arc is special blew my mind. I'm connecting some dots right now you don't even know exist okay. Watch out for the future cover stories, is all I will say... (edit: I just remembered you're watching the anime. So, uh, I believe people have told you about the cover stories? For example, remember Buggy's fun little side adventure? where he met Gaimon and then joined hands with Alvida. That was set between his defeat at Orange Town and his reappearance, right? Well, in the manga that happened through the chapter covers, as each One Piece chapter has one. Periodically we get side stories in them with characters from previous arcs. I don't think the anime covered the ones we got from Skypea's characters, so I'd suggest looking for them as they give you some interesting pieces to think over. Specially Enel's, since Gedatsu's is basically some wholesome comedy. I know you're planning on reading the manga afterwards, but thought I'd let you know)
    Basically what Luffy did is just a new move that is absolutely within his current skillset and not a power-up, he just had to get a little creative. With Zoro, on the other hand, You can indeed think of it as a power-up, as it is something that significantly changes what he can do now vs. what he could do before. Case in point: bald guys' cables. He wouldn't have been able to cut those without the revelations he had during his Alabasta fight, whereas Luffy just thought of something different he could do with what he already had. With Luffers, he just does a lot of out-of-the-box thinking... Trust me, you'll now a power-up when you see it.
    edit: "Isn't this power like the stongest one that can reasonably exist?"
    Oh you sweet summer child...

    Enel as a lightning man can travel that fast both going downwards and to any other direction, BESIDES up.

  • @8Smoker8
    @8Smoker8 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Enel is indeed one of the most overpowered things ever. People downplay him just because he was introduced before Haki and because he lost to an early Luffy (for plot reasons I might add but that's secondary).
    He has INSANE observation Haki both in quality and range (he doesn't see 10 seconds into the future but like 10 miles+ of distance and still has more than decent foresight). Combine that with the ability to snipe someone with lightning from miles away and flight/near teleportaion (arguably better than Kizaru's btw) and you get an extremely annoying and nearly impossible to catch, and still quite strong offensively even in New World terms, character.
    If he got any boost PTS similar to Crocodile, he could VERY EASILY end up being a major player in the end.
    P.S.: I love the beliefs part discussion. If you think about it, as rational as we'd like to be we still put a lot of FAITH into science, democracy and many other things we don't (and really can't, for the most part) have a direct experience with. You most likely don't have any proof that an atomic bomb works like it does and isn't just some black magic, but you have faith in the generations of researchers that ultimately led to it.
    Ofc you could in theory study physics enough to understand it, but even for the average physicist there are many, many steps that are just based on trusting what someone else found out without actually repeating the experiment directly, and the vast majority of us aren't even average physicists.
    Same goes for medicine, politics etc...As long as we approach things with a critical mind and evaluate the likelyhood of truth with decent accuracy, we should be fine. But I think the BELIEF that we are the polar opposite of religious people because we can have rational evidence of most of our world is very naive.
    We can still get manipulated almost as easily as Crusaders and such, just instead of religion we have science and human rights and "insert casus belli here". What makes the difference isn't being religious or an atheist, it's critical thinking, and I promise you many, way too many people on BOTH sides don't have the slightest idea of what it looks like.

    @sprintdistance 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For Luffy's power ups he will sometimes mention he thought of a cool move or that a circumstance had him thinking he needs to be more powerful, but he only says what is currently going on in his mind. You will never get a thought bubble out of him so usually as soon as he thinks of it he does it. Zoro's was a bigger upgrade so it was focused on more, you will get that will all characters including Luffy but most of his tend to be whatever he currently thinks of to try (you'll know when it is a big one that is a power up)
    Mantra will be relevant more later under a different name (in line with isolated community calling things by different names)
    Nami's waver is mentioned to be powered by a Jet dial which came from a different sky island of Burka which is where Eneru came from and had previously destroyed so that is why they have no more access to those dials. It may have been glossed over in the anime but it is explained in the arc
    You'll likely see this a lot, but look into the Eneru Cover story it is worth it and likely to be important, Oda will return to previous characters and tell stories through the cover stories (Buggy's little adventure was one) but the anime only has done a couple since they are not always 100% relevant to main plot and apparently didn't poll well so they stopped doing them sadly but it is a cool one with a lot of lore

    I think you missed on the religion analysis here. One piece's conflict here isn't a religious one. The way I see it the religious themes are just surface dressings.
    Unless the anime changed it, the shandia's animosity towards Gan fall has nothing to do with religious or belief reasons but rather the fact that the sky island residents' took their land for themselves. Although Gan fall is a reasonable guy that doesn't erase the persecution that their people faced. The shadians deserve to be angry. It's a real actual event in the history of this place unlike the religious conflict you're making it out to be.
    Oda most likely took inspiration from real world problems many native people face so you dismissing the shandians fight as senseless violence for the sake of nothing as well as comparing it to the crusades (when the catholics had horrible effects on these conflicts) kinda strikes a nerve.
    Edit: adding some stuff

    The next two openings spoil A LOT, don't watch until you're like halfway through the next two main arcs. Specifically what I mean by "main arcs" is:
    Don't watch the next opening (opening 5) until you are halfway through the arc that the next saga is named after.
    And don't watch the opening after that (opening 6) until you are halfway through the arc following opening 5's arc.
