To expand on Brook's sshtick: it's not that he asks for panties cause he's a pervert, its part of hsi overall shtick of being incredible rude and perverted while speaking in a very polite manner. The idea is his years of isolation has driven him near mad and he's forgotten how to actually interact with people, so he acts polite while making stupid nonsense jokes and pervy gags. Not that he isn't a pervert, but being a pervert isn't like his whole THING like it is with sanji.
I agree. The scene in the past when Brook is on the ship talking to himself and saying how much fun it is. Then falling asleep remembering his crew and thinking that was reality only to wake up and be confronted once again with his loneliness made me get Brook.
@@user-gk6nt5gi5n , Brook being way more perverted than Sanji actually makes logical sense in the narrative of One Piece whereas Sanji is and will always be the biggest simp of all time, and he’s never going to be more badass than Zoro in combat.
@@ak14serko44 iv rewatched and reread that story multiple times im just stating facts it isn't something oda has stated in the story it's just speculation, understandable speculation but speculation none the less

Yeah the important part is that the attack or beam/projectile move at the speed of light, but Kuma doesn't move or aim at the speed of light and even if someone moves at the speed of light at the end of the day they don't think at the speed of light
@@pixelblaze8284 Its a Kizaru reference, I hope ya'll realize. I assumed most people watching this had already seen the show and were watching this for the reactions.
omething to point out: pacifista doesn't mean he's a pacifist, it means kuma was created with the function of 'pacifying' pirates with this unscalable power, so basically the name means he was made to be something that will crush pirates and stop their rampaging and fighting
the name pacifist is just govt propaganda. like in our world, there are no more navy "destroyers", they're now called "cruisers." that's imp't. in international relations.
I mean depending on your first language it can be really confusing. As a portuguese speaker myself, the name pacifista directly translates to pacifist. So people mistaking it is understandable. It it was name pacifier or pacificador in portuguese (and i believe in spanish) it would be less confusing.

I think you missed something about Moria. His DF represents what he became. After he lost his entire crew to Kaido, he become a shadow of him self. He now uses zombies to do his bidding, that are easyly replaceable instead of having a crew he can trust, work wth and have the option of loosing again. He become depressed, also represented in how he lives in the foggy shadows in the Florian Triangle. Also, a metaphor, only after winning against depresion (gaining your shadow back), you can enjoy life (the sunlight) And to add, about Brook, he's been 50 alone in the darkness, trapped with the bodies of his fallen crewmates. He is a bit insane and he is a bit at a loss of how to interact with people. You saw how he coped and the hallucinations he suffered in those flashbacks. Enough rumblings and actually something did happened in this ark.
Tbf, from the many First Time Watching/Reading One Piece folk, the whole Depression being what Moria represents always seem to fly over their heads on first viewing, and well, a lot of us also missed it too at first. It only became more and more apparent by later arcs. I'd say, Thriller Bark has the same strength as Skypiea in terms.of great upon later rewatching or in hindsight. But I'll avoid spoilers.
Zoro saying nothing also means so much to me because luffy always carries that pain and says nothing. Imagine the shame ud feel getting praise for taking the pain someone else takes for u all the time
about the shadow shadow fruit being 'inconsistent': the author has confirmed that powers don't get STRONGER, only the user becomes more imgainative with it. Its how luffy is able to just make up gear second and third without any like training. So Moria's just an example of someone beign creative with how a power that 'controls a person's shadow can be. This same thinking is also the main reason why Kuma seems so powerful, as Kuma has a power that sounds incredibly weak on paper but because of how creative he is with it, he has become unstoppable.
@@creativename6126 I wouldn't say Enel is an idiot he's just ignorant of some things while also sporting a God complex, but make no mistake the Rumble-Rumble Fruit on it's own is powerful Robin even says its one of the fruits touted as "invincible" but Luffy happens to be rubber which makes him a natural counter
I've always seen the DF encyclopedia as basically just a compendium of what fruits have already been documented, but since there's so many and it seems like only one of each can exist at a time, it's probably rare to have entries that detail both the fruits' powers and appearance.
Had a very strong feeling this arc would be a mixed bag for you. It tends to have very mixed reception from pretty much everyone in the fanbase at large. It was still good to hear about all your thoughts on though. Actually something did happen in that your understanding of the devil fruit encyclopedia is kind of overthinking it a bit. Without spoiling anything, it's just plot convenience which fruits are listed in the encyclopedia and which aren't. The interesting thing though is that Oda has stated that in universe the copies of this encyclopedia are incredibly rare. Blackbeard managed to get his hands on one cause he was part of Whitebeards crew. So where exactly did Sanji manage to find one? (the rarity thing is only mentioned by the author so it's not actually an in story spoiler) Some interesting trivia about the song Binks' Sake. Oda actually wrote the song with one of the composers who works on the One Piece anime years before this arc was animated. The melody and lyrics were decided on long before the anime actually reached this part of the story and the fans got to hear the song after only seeing the lyrics written out in the manga.
So explanation of Kuma's powers based on the information in this arc: his power is that he can repel anything with the paws in his hands , be it air , swords or pain
Not sure what you know or don't know about "how people know what devil fruits are what" but I'll clarify here: At the point you are at, it can be speculated that the devil fruit encyclopedia is probably just a list of fruits and their powers, and a picture of what the fruit looks like. Each fruit looks different. The encyclopedia is probably just incomplete, Kaku's and Kalifa's fruits weren't in it, while the Darkness Darkness fruit and Clear Clear fruit were.
To add to the explanation: some fruits may have only the description of the power, not a picture, like, maybe Kaku's fruit had the name and description but no picture in the book
basically that also from the wiki: There is a Devil Fruit Encyclopedia that lists the names and powers of all the Devil Fruits. However, only a few of them have illustrations, meaning that most Devil Fruits cannot be identified by their appearance.
Exactly. I always assumed that the encyclopedias were incomplete because it just makes sense. A lot of fruits will be unkown or have just rumors about them if they haven't appareared in the public eye for a long time (and there are lots of different reasons for that to happen). And most people are not going to take a photo or make a drawing of the devil fruit before eating so even those devil fruits which powers are know may not have a picture or a description of the fruit. It makes a lot of sense that few of them can be identified by their appearance.
He's not exactly teleporting. His power is used to repel things, not just air. The way he's moving, he's repelling his own body against the air to launch himself into other places. He also uses his repulsion to repel the concept of pain out of Luffys body so Zoro can take it.
Everything that comes after "places." is kinda nonsense if you think about it, but that ability has given us some of the absolute best moments in One Piece
there are 2 things Oda has openly stated he is an enemy of 1 character revivals 2 old glories now weak for 1, since a child he allways hated the character dies now we bring him back to life plots, he thus rarely kills characters, since he feels he can use them again later for 2, its the reason many old men and woman are absurdly strong, he dislikes the idea that with age alone someone becomes weak and feeble, so, unless there is another factor i play, old people remain strong, what these other factors can be are either sickness, or the character wasting itself, an example of the latter is actually Moria, there are shots of him at the time he fought Kaido, and he was built, but after his loss, he really wasted himself, so yeah, the Moria they fough was actually weaker than the one who lost against Kaido
I loved that Oda used the Bear Trope for Bartholomew Kuma - “Because of this, throwing a bear into a scene is the best way to let the audience know that our heroes have gone beyond rock bottom and are now totally screwed.”
Why are so many people mad about Sanji's reason for wanting the clear-clear fruit, but they're okay with Nami telling Lola that it's okay to marry Absalom while he's unconscious. Yeah, fire with fire, but still.
@verdantmischief7092 That works cause it's absalom, still putting a double standard on things. This isn't more "unfunny or creepy" as other things in the one piece verse, sanji's not going to ignite an underground sex trade cult like the Koroto knight thinks. Dear god!
I think Thriller Bark might be my favourite arc in OP. Not because of its quality or anything objective like that. I just love the spooky scary atmosphere and the truckload of setup it provides, even on my 10th or so reread. Actually, some really important things did happen and I can't wait for you to discover what it all leads up to.
Out of curiosity: Can you think of why you have problem with Moria's fruit but were in love with Perona's? You said that it felt off for Moria's ability to have so many functions, but if anything I'd say they were much more connected than Perona's. Perona: - Has the ability to produce these ghosts that she can control. The ghosts go through everything and are seemingly indestructable. - The ghosts are connected to Perona and she can use them for surveillance and even for communication. - The ghosts will remove all the positivity, drive and desire to live from a person they pass through. It won't work if the person is already very negative. - ALSO: She can produce these other smaller ghost that she can make EXPLODE by snapping her fingers. She can also create a gigantic version of the explosive ghosts. She can seperate HER OWN SOUL from her body and fly around as a ghost herself. As a ghost she can also control her size for some reason and become gigantic herself if she wants to. Even as a ghost she has the ability to produce all of those ghosts from her astral body, despite still being connected to her actual body which is the holder of her power, rather than her astral form... Moria's ability were basically: Can control shadows and has the best control over his own shadow, the shadows keep attributes of their original owners and can be put into objects or beings that then inherit the abilities/personalities of the shadow, he can switch places with his shadow. Is Moria REALLY any worse than Perona if you try to look at it as objectively as possible? (Naturally it's just your opinion and there's no problem with that AT ALL! I just really wanted to point this out and ask about it since I couldn't share your feelings about disliking the shadow ability. Still liked the video. Although... Is the encyclopedia thing REALLY that difficult to understand? Not every fruit in the world has been found and recorded on that book. The end.)
Perona was a mostly gag related character and had a minor fight, while Moria’s power is leading the whole arc and was supposed to be serious, I didn’t mind about his fruits power tho
So as someone who's watching One Piece for the first time as well the" disliking, loving, disliking again and loving again the arc" is something that I've experienced a lot after this arc. I haven't finished watching the video yet but I'm excited to hear your opinions as always!!
Basic Devil Fruit Encyclopaedia explanation : it's a (rare) book that contains the known information about certain devil fruits, though many (but not all) of the entries are incomplete since some traits of the fruit are unknown ( it's name or how the physical fruit looks etc )
the devil fruit book only lists the effects and power of the devil fruits previously used, so its basically a huge list that says stuff like "the gomu gomu no mi fruit: turns you into a rubber man and allows your body to be elastic" and stuff like that, but they don't know how most of them look like, so it's basicaly a gamble on wich fruit are you eating unless the previous user described how the fruit looks like, so that's probably why black beard knew how his darkness fruit looked like
32:22 I think that’s a bit unfair to say there were zero stakes, as a weekly reader at the time I genuinely thought Oda might kill Zoro or Sanji at that point, we had just lost Merry.
Personally I think going from silly to serious is apart of one pieces charm, it’s what one piece is known for.. you see these silly designs and think it’s going to be a silly show but it’s actually about politics
Like another comment said, you seem to have kinda missed the interpretation of brooks perv jokes, but also, a la merphy napier, itd be nice if they choice some other joke interactions to showcase his madness, rather than only the panty one
Zoro said nothing happened, but, actually, something did happen: Luffy’s pain was so strong that he stumbled and fell into Ussop’s stash of ketchup stars, getting covered from head to toe in sweet tomato sauce. He was not, in fact, dying, but staying stoic to avoid public humiliation and embarrassment. Joking aside, I think most of everything regarding Absolom was regarded the same by everyone in the fanbase: bad and unsatisfying. This is my second most hated Sanji moment in the series because it takes a gag from Alabasta and makes it serious. I do think the whole fight is supposed to be a giant joke, but it really doesn’t come off that way with how much the audience is made to hate Absolom. I think Sanji’s character was really thrown off-balance with this moment, and I hate it for that. I have no other gripes with the arc, really. As for Brook’s running gag, I think it can just be chalked up to Oda’s sense of humor. If you read the SBSs, you can really see how much he liked dirty jokes, though I personally don’t really see Brook’s as all that funny.
Why do people keep wildly misinterpreting the Sanji scene? ALL of the Protagonists shared a trait with the Antagonists. THAT WAS THE POINT. The difference was in there actions. Not only is Oda lampooning the hyper sexual libido of men he's also saying that DESPITE that extreme lust, Sanji would never put his sexual lust before Nami's safety. That was the difference. Absolom puts his lust first over everything.
@@redx589 when you talk about 'safety', you have to realize that your idea of safe and other people's idea of safe might be different. Maybe you and Koroto think differently about how safe spying on girls is.
@@shkpotter9844 Doesn't matter what word you wanna use it doesn't change the point. The scene is wildly misinterpreted. If people would just think instead of reacting the message would be clear. Instead people just get emotional instead of thinking.
@@redx589 A story has holds more weight than 1 scene. A good example of this is Luffy can trust his crew NO MATTER what. I.e Nami Arlong Park Arc, Robin shooting the mayor in Water 7. But Luffy couldn’t trust Zoro because of some strangers giving him food? Yeah it’s a gag but he goes against his own portrayal. Sanji being portrayed as different for a scene when anyone watching has seen he has actively put her in danger before for his uncontrollable lust. Like damn 10 episodes later he almost gets her killed for simping over her while they are fighting Oars. But you want the viewers to clap because one scene wants to illustrate how Sanji is different from the very similar antagonist even though there are bunch of scenes that show that ain’t true?! MISINTERPRET? Nah I knew exactly what Oda was doing. He literally does it every arc. That was bad writing end of story.
you asked about the inconsistencies in animation. so both money and talent are limited, and it's common practice for long running anime to use only a minimum of money and talent most of the time, and focus lots of money and talent on the important scenes. since people mostly the important scenes, they will remember the whole series as being good looking.
Kuma's paw paw fruit power is to REPEL ANYTHING. There is no speed of light stuff... it might be just exaggeration... Kuma's teleportation on the other hand is he just pushes himself/others to go to different locations. And he can REPEL and push air into a small region compressing it to Form a high pressure bomb kinda thing... He can REPEL anything (even abstract stuff), that's why he could REPEL Luffy's fatigue into a blob at the end. The pacifista is the name given to Govt's cyborgs.. like Kuma like you mentioned. They are supposed to pacify any situation off pirates... He is not a pacifist.... per se
Next arc is gonna be a blast. It has some of the funniest, darkest and most satisfying moments in the whole series, plus he also sets up what is considered the best saga of the entire series
Thank you so much for these. I'm caught up on the anime so decided to finally get into the manga and wanted to compare it but didn't wanna rewatch so these recaps are great for seeing the differences. I'm also loving all your predictions and deductions. Great content and, so far, I agree with the majority of your rankings. Keep up the great work.b
Actually something did happen...this vid made me subscribe lol. But in other seriousness, it's so sad people ALWAYS throw Sanji under the bus as if he's just as bad as Absalom, an actual assaulter, versus Sanji wanting to peep. While I do not condone the action, I think many people overlook Sanji's whole character of being the walking paradox of a pervy but chivalrous gentleman. Sanji is NOT asexual like Luffy or arguably Zoro, he will fight for women, protect women, simp for women, and lust for women...and that makes him an actual regular and healthy young man with a traditional libido. Yes, it IS a cultural difference with how peeping is looked at, but back in even classics like Tenchi Muyo, Nobuyuki (Tenchi's dad) even states the tradition and overall romanticism of peeping. Much like 80s and 90s movies, Porky's and American Pie, for example, it was a common trope of dumb boys trying to catch a glimpse of the Eden they desired. Sanji grew up on the Baratie, surrounded by burly men, with the only eye candy being pretty ladies. Just cause Sanji is chivalrous does NOT mean he can't have carnal desires to some extent. But in a way, I'm almost happy you lost faith in Sanji cause now it'll be an interesting journey to see if Oda can build him back up for you. I never ran into this scenario for my boi cause Sanji is truly one of the most balanced and well rounded characters of the group that can fit into pretty much every type of scenario; he's adaptable like how humans should be, not just a cookie cutter badass that spews a cool Mr. Prince line and then proceeds to just smoke in a corner like the stoic badass archetype. And I respect that about Sanji. He wears his emotions on his sleeve (see Mr. 2's fight), and that works both for and against him like for any person.
*Subtle indirect spoilers for WCI arc..... @devilkicksanji2 And adding to what you stated... There is an actual reason Sanji wanted the invisibility fruit but Oda couldn't reveal it yet.... at this point of the story. Also, the fact that Sanji wanted the invisibility power when he was a child clearly points out subtly that peeping is not the original reason Sanji wanted the at least when he was a child when he first desired for it after seeing in the encyclopedia , (because he desperately wanted to be invisible during his childhood under the circumstances he was in with people like ichiji, niji, yonji, and Judge around him) But later after leaving and while growing up, his libido creeps into his subconscious, adding up as a layer unto his original desire for the invisibility fruit. Since Oda couldn't reveal about Sanji's origins and his original reason to desire for the invisibility power, so Oda chose to focus and highlight Sanji's other reason to desire for that fruit based on his fantasy towards women... and passing it as a joke but simultaneously... drawing parallels between Absolom's "imposing oneself forcefully due to malicious intent" vs Sanji's "harmless fantasy fulfillment" (though it's problematic, in the sense it's a privacy intrution..which is clearly not a good thing, though realistically speaking). This dichotomy is interesting, but this has to be consumed with some maturity rather than taking it with face value. I still think Oda leaned little too much into the peeping side of invisibility fruit for sanji.... (as no matter what, it does leave a slight our taste at the end ) and I would've preferred it to be little dailed down yet successfully hinting that Sanji did want invisibility power during his childhood.... and presenting similar pervy trait of Sanji in a better more digestible way...Thus not completely alienating the fans and making them start to hate Sanji. That said, it is a very interesting combination of traits that Sanji has... Chivalry, not fighting women, immense respect for women, yet immense simping for them due to his intense libido, YET he respects them and never harm them even in his dreams, physically or mentally or emotionally. The peeping is a romanticized trait in that culture historically and it doesn't intend any direct or indirect harm due to that act except the visual, at least in its original innocent version of teen fantasy... HOWEVER IT IS CLEARLY NOT SUITABLE AND CORRECT IN CURRENT DAY AND AGE, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE OF THE SOCIAL STRUCTURE AND WORKING OF THE SOCIETY, combined with the implications such activities entail, due to the advancement in technology now-a-days, and so this aspect has to be consumed by the audience with some maturity of seeing the nuance and not taking things at face value. So, I feel Oda somehow communicating Sanji's fantasies in a milder, subtler, and less creepy way ( by mentioning that "he always wanted invisibility from His childhood and growing up he was always curious of what girls talk and do while taking communal baths" and adding "as a bonus he gets to see them in 'birthdaysuit' " ... or something like that) and mentioning his desire for the invisibility fruit during his childhood, parallelelly contrasting Sanji's and Absolom's pervy side showing the nuanced differences and present the dichotomy in it that showcases complexity in Sanji's character... without completely blemishing Sanji's character to the fans to an extent of people hating him by blatantly making him visibly UPSET AND DESPERATE for not having the fruit for the soul purpose of peeping ... But even though it is warranted due to how badly Oda presented this, the hate Sanji's character gets in this arc is undeserved to say the least. I personally didn't like it when I first watched it, but I couldn't let some superficial joke totally spoil an otherwise great character, hence I ignored it. But after watching the WCI (wholecake island),I felt the connection of Why sanji wanted the invisibility fruit in his childhood, but while droping that info, Oda downplayed the reason as a gag during thriller bark arc, as he can't reveal stuff here. Ofc I feel the peeping reason is not an ideal reason and OFC is not the main reason he wanted invisibility as a child originally, yet it is at least a part of Sanji that he developed as he grew, that got incorporated into his already existing desire for the invisibility fruit. If Oda had presented it in a more subtle way it would've been great
@@gauthamvadlamudi3500 Very well said. Just a shame many can't see that about his characterization or simply refuse to for superfluous political correctness/bias.
My understanding is that a lot of people generally have a problem with sexuality mixed with humor, especially when it's very forward and inappropriate. An example of my opinion is when Brook gets introduced and he drops the pantyline. People can react with delight at how extremely out of left field it is, or be offended at how degrading and objectifying it is. They stole Franky's speedos and ran with them to great comedic effect, I think most people are okay with that scene. But would people be if it was Nami and they stole her bra? The Absolom situation is obviously way more serious, and Sanjis fruit grudge skit would more understandably rub a lot of people the wrong way following that serious situation. I didn't change my mind about Sanji at all following that scene. He is a kind hearted and thoughtful person, and would never do anything to hurt any good people. The casual violence among crewmates for trivial things could also offend a lot of people, especially ones having experienced domestic violence, but it seems most people take that as lighthearted humor.
I love your videos because you are watching one piece at the same rate as I am. I just finished thriller bark and am onto sabaody and impel down. Right when I've finished an arc, your video comes out not too long after, so i am caught up on time
The part of fruits being known and others not being is the same thing that happens in real life with animals, in our world there are animals that have been listed and others that are not, and in the world of One Piece there are devil fruits that have their powers listed, but there are others who have never had their powers shown and/or listed by someone
Ryuma is actually from "Monster" a One Shot Oda made 2-3 years before One Piece , where it shows how he dacapitated a dragon ( as it was said in this arc that he did ) though he did receive some changes for his One Piece incarnation , those being his sword Shusui ( Autumn Water ) and him being from Wano country ( One Piece Japan ) , in the one shot Ryuma only having a generic katana and being in generic fantasy town #8097
fastest click in the entire universe, best series out there, makes my entire week. oh , and you are in for some more sanji character damage in the distant future sadly... cant wait to talk about it after you get to see it and have an opinion about it.
Has to be an anime issue with him misunderstanding Kuma. Like how do you not understand his powers and think he's a pacifist? When I read this as a teenager 10 years ago, I better understood what Pacifista were. Also being put off on the idea that characters can move at the speed of light, while a guy sets his foot on fire using friction is crazy 🤣. It's a shounen fantasy story. If we can have a rubber boy fight a lightning god, we can deal with a little light speed. I guess a dog faced rocket launcher is more realistic lol.
Seriously I've binged several new reaction series and it seems like my dumb unobservant teenage ass was smarter than theses morons at times it also might be the retarded modern subs changing shit the unofficial subs back in the day left some mystery but explained things better like certain powers unexplained being translated before it being known as a thing made more sense later on.
A bit of trivia for you and this arc You may have issues with a bunch of the laughs in this arc, but in case you didn't realize; Oda like to give just about everyone a unique sounding laugh. It's actually a fun touch that he does, though clearly some aren't going to work well as others Believe it or not, the Wano Samurai known as Ryuma and his creation actual predate all of One Piece as a younger version of him was the main character of a one shot manga back in 94 known as Monsters. This arc basically makes Monsters cannon to One Piece as it takes place hundreds of years before the events of One Piece Finlay be aware that there are some things that are explained on or given more detail in a comment section of the manga that the anime doesn't go over. You're likely going to get some of those detailed explanations in the comments of your next video based on things that I'm assuming your going to theorize/question out loud
The DF encyclopedia, from what is shown, seems very hard to get one's hands on. And it also doesn't seem to be exhaustive. Surely the world government has a copy of the encyclopedia, so if they didn't know what Kaku's fruit would be, it means that not all fruits are listed.
Could it be possible that Brook has ptsd? He did live on a ship with the corpuses of his former crewmembers for a very long time, maybe that is his way of coping with things.
The shadows in thriller bark are not explained as far as I know but the skypiea shadows were explained to be the shadows of the shandorians but hey just looked massive cause of perspective or something to that effect
Zoro's words on these kinda scenes always hits different tho. Even if something actually happened he pretends to be cool whenever he is on an important task.
actually something did happen about the animation! To be able to manage a weekly series for 2 decades, the in-house staff can't be animating every single episode as a well scheduled episode takes around 6 months to produce, therefore animation companies such as Pierrot and Toei have substudios who often animates a big portion of episodes. Because the art director is not the same the art tends to look inconsistent and is the reason you noticed this. Around 800 episodes into the series Toei have made a great solution and the anime is the greatest it has ever been currently speaking in sheer consistency, but that has mostly landed upon the art direction of a single individual.
I wanna say make sure to take care of yourself and take all the time you need to make these vids. You're working a lot til March, mental health is super important. Actually something did happen, you've made it past Thriller Bark and you're heading up my guy 🤘💖
Regading light-speed attacks: Any time I see characters in anime dodging something like that, they're not actually moving faster than light but watching the movement of the enemy's arm or something and dodging where they know the undodgable attack WILL be. Which is much more realistic.
One thing I love about this arc that I'll comment about before getting to it in the video is I love that the weaker half of a the crew reach the island first and have a hard time but when the stronger half reach the island they breeze through it like nothing This arc also has two of my favourite moments When they are fighting as the sun is rising in the shadow of moria inspiring the others to jot give up and obviously the nothing happened scene People hate on this arc and I can see why but looking at it from the perspective of a overarching story rather then a solo arc makes it more enjoyable
There are still some things that don't really make sense but a good way to think of Moriah's devil fruit is that the shadow is basically puppeting the body. When Moriah attaches a shadow to a body it creates a sort of reversal where instead of the body determining the shape of the shadow the shadow determines the shape of the body and that's why oars was able to stretch like luffy
Also this is explained more in depth later but I wouldn't consider it a spoiler since it's literally just stated once to clarify things and that's it but the way the teleportation works with Kuma is he literally uses his repelling powers to essentially launch them
Also I should add, there's a REALLY interesting detail thats easy to miss during zoros scene with Kuma, even though he said nothing happened, actually something did happen!
What you're misunderstanding is the term unique for devil fruits. Each fruit only has one copy, but when a fruit user dies a nearby fruit becomes that devil fruit. So previously eaten fruits are documented, those that haven't been eaten aren't. If Kaku died his fruit would be in the compendium as the giraffe fruit now.
Having your videos be non-chronological helps those of us who've seen this story before have multiple "oh yeah, that happened here" moments. Changing up the delivery allows us to follow many of the connectiins you made while reminding us that, actually, something did happen.
16:19 sanji wants to spy on woman, yes is gross but its a joke from a different culture not rape them 40:06 the panties joke from brook makes him even more funny because is a weird thing from a 60+ mentally ill skeleton to ask you for panties
Here's how the devil fruits are able to be known and catalogued in a book without getting into spoilers. Basically how a devil fruit works is that if a devil fruit user dies, their power gets sent to the nearest type of a specific fruit. For example, the previous user of Kaku's fruit died and his power went into the nearest banana bundle. The previous user of Buggy's fruit died and it went into the nearest pineapple. The previous user of Luffy's fruit died and it went into the nearest melon. If the name of fruit is known as well as the type of fruit it is and what the actual devil fruit version looks like (apple, oranange, dragonfruit, etc.), then it can be recorded and catalogued for when that user dies and the fruit reincarnates. This is also a reason as to why some fruits might not be recorded/known, because of circulation. There are cases like Brook who might have a sort of immortality because of their fruit (not saying he can't die or anything, mainly the circumstances behind his revival), been reincarnated into a very obscure location (like underground, or a remote island like the one Gaimon lives on), if someone ate a devil fruit but chose not to use it or reveal it, if certain fruits are being contained or being put on a monopoly so officials or enemies don't get their hands on it, etc. In a general sense, this is a basic synopsis on devil fruit reincarnation and how/why some of them can be recorded. It might also be possible that some fruits are more descriptive than others. Some might have multiple pages for a single fruit while others might just have a sentence saying what the fruit can do. (not saying this is revealed or anything, but I'm just using it as an example) Like, let's use Luffy's fruit, for instance. The gum-gum fruit might not be something that's known very well by people and thus, isn't in the catalogue. But after Luffy eventually dies, people will know pretty well what kinds of things that fruit is capable of so long as they can find out what the fruit looks like and what type of fruit it is. The Encyclopedia might also be kind of a more rare book, but we don't really know much about the encyclopedia really at all.
The pervy character antics seem to be painted as the worst thing in the world to you but the characters who torture, mutilate and kill people are a-okay with you by comparison. It's like you point out though the pervy points are painted as a bad thing, even if they are played as comedy some of the time. They aren't passed off as a "Good" or "Okay" thing. Characters who act this way almost always face some sort of punishment for it right away. You seem to also skip it for some reason since its such a hot topic for you but Lola constantly harnesses Absalom even sexually. Again its some sort of karma for his behavior but also another character acting in a similar manner. Every time this topic comes up in these videos it just seems off how you focus on it so heavily in contrast to the much more horrible acts that are committed. Won't pretend to know your personal life and what you might of dealt with regarding this topic, just that it catches me as weird your large disdain for it while other topics get a pass or even a laugh from you.
It happens a lot with these you tubers sadly "he gutted a child and that's... Sad" "he watched a woman shower it's such an disgusting act" like why do a lot of the TH-cam rs in this genre keep treating peeping worse that straight up butchering folks or slavery
Kumas devil fruit power is the power to push things, he pushed people, he pushed the air ( and compresses it if he wants) he pushed the pain out of luffy, he pushes himself to "teleport".
On the thing of how Kuma moves, he "repels" himself from short distances really stupidly fast, which talks about the control he has on his devil fruit.
Thriller Bark is only the start of a theme that builds up for the next few arcs climaxing in the *If you know you know* arc which is that the SHs are too weak, and Moria is a case study of what could be, actually in fact later on we learn that crocodile is also a case study of what could be if SHs remain this weak.
Regarding the devil fruit and cyclopedia, it only shows certain fruits. In others it will only say stuff about it but won’t show an image. Picture it like this, for it have a fruit in it. You must have someone with a fruit come to them, and then eat it. so it makes sense that not all of them have images. And even the ones without images not everyone is willing to tell the bookmakers what their fruit does
The reason some devil fruits are known and some aren’t in the encyclopedia is just the fact that the world is both big and very hard to spread information in. Separated into 4 seas with the redline and grand-line isolating the 4 seas. News papers are delivered by bird which itself is time consuming and not very advanced. So lots of fruits just haven’t been recorded because the info couldn’t be spread. Thats about as far as im willing to go into it at the part of the story youre at atm. Anything else and I may accidentally spoil little details. Edit: also its a world of many many islands. Thats a big point I forgot as well in regards to information management
For more understanding see Egyptian lore on shadows, known as your Ba. Its considered part of the soul....it makes Moria's powers make perfect sense. Oda's research is phenomenally broad n extensive
This arc definitely has HIGHS ("Nothing happened" and Brook's flashback are still some of my favourite scenes in One Piece) and LOWS. The whole Sanji vs Absalom thing being one of those lows, to me the worst moment in the whole arc, and is still to this day one of my most disliked Sanji moments. I seen a lot of people defend that scene, but I just dislike it. Not because I find it out of character for Sanji, I don't think is out of character is just that for me that is the WORST part of his character and I would have prefered if he was angry because of Absalon spying on Nami, instead of because he himself wanted to spy on women. I really like Sanji but I hate how far his whole pervert gag goes sometimes and this is definitely one of those times.
With Kuma's abilities. He can (doesn't mean he always does) repel things at the speed of light. If he repelled himself, though, how would that look given the speed? Almost as if he was instantly teleporting.
I would consider the devil fruit compendeuim issue to be a matter of known vs unknown fruits. As with reality, we don't have information on every single thing that exists whereas we do have information on some. Some of the devil fruits have been found and owned by people who were willing to record its effects, some are either so rare they haven't been seen in centuries or are so rare that they have never been seen before period.
Bro Love your review details reveal so far on Thriller bark beside just 1. Thriller bark its a Horrow slash comedy arc. One of my fav comedy arcs in one piece. But cmon, u had no problem with pantless franky on public in water 7 and balls grab by Robin for comedy but with Sanji here just having pervert fantasies comedy is a big no no thing? Invisible man always being a horror pervert genre for movies. Equality works both ways if u think morality is bad. Not on 1 sex gender only. Also charateristic pervert sanji aside, Sanji's fight with Absolom is cool, as he aee throughs all his attacks and how he defended Nami by taking hits and doesnt want blood dripping on nami'a dress is awesome too. But i guess actions means nothing when having 1 pervert dream ruins all these characteriscs in Sanji afterall for u.
To add to the DF encyclopaedia: The fruits recorded would most probably be ¹) Someone letting people eat the fruit and then testing the powers. 2) People tracking down the usersAnd quizzing them on what their fruit looked like. 😎
About the topic about why some devil fruit powers are known while others are not. Trying to avoid spoilers as much as possible regardless of how minor. Essentially a lot of these devil fruits have had previous wielders in the past. Where the abilities and descriptions were written down in the encyclopedia. This means that there would likely be some fruits that just haven't been discovered previously or have had users who weren't willing to share the details and powers of the fruit to those writing the encyclopedia. Not sure if Oda ever confirms this but that would be my explanation.
Man hearing you review Ace's death is going to be my Chef's KEEEEEEEES...cant believe you did not get the unpredictability memo about ONE PIECE by this point...
My partner is up to date on One Piece, but is making me watch it (and I am extremely glad he is) however he watches subs and I prefer dubs. My eyesight is really bad and I find it very difficult to read subtitles. He watched this arc originally in Japanese with subtitles, but watched it with me in English. He said this (so far) is the one arc that is better in English, as the jokes translate much better and it's actually a lot funnier. So if you did watch it with subs, I suggest going back and watching it with dubs sometime :)
So you have such a huge problem with sanji(and brook to a lesser extent), but have no problem with lola acting the same way? What because she's on the "villans" side? Then there's the fact that you're so upset about Sanji's pervyness and think its "impressionable on young audiences", so then by that logic you think media creates violence and it's not just people choosing to be bad? You've had no problem with violence and have even wished characters died, so where does that fit in? How do you feel about them being pirates, or did you forget? You seem to have no problem with them fighting the WG either, and again cheered, so then I guess that's a good thing? Your logic is flawed.
People often seem to forget, the straw hats aren't heroes, just pirates that have a goal that isnt evil, good people can have big flaws like being perverts, being greedy, all that stuff, they are pirates and not some moral compass lmao
Actually something did happen that you didn't get Going to explain a few things to you that Don't involve spoilers that you didn't understand First off Moria's powers. Some devil fruits are a bit more complex and can work in different ways while still sharing a overall theme (I have another theory that may also explain some of your complaints but that starts to get into spoiler territory so keep a pin in that). Moria's power is that of controlling the shadows of living things, but sometimes powers that affects other can affect the user in a different way. There's a villain in the ninth move who's power is to make inanimate things float/fly but can use it on himself as an exception to that rule, likewise Moria can do things with his own shadow that he can't do with other people's shadow. SEE PART 2
PART 2 Your hangups with Cindry can be explained when you think about it. One reson why Moria uses corpses to house his captured shadows is because these corpses are basically inanimate objects with no will as oppose to any living person who's will would come into conflict with the absorbed shadow and eventually cause the shadow to be ejected. It would seem that the ghost of the real Cindry (the one the body originally belonged to and not the enslaved shadow that's moving the corpse) managed to come back and for a brief moment managed to take back control for a short bit. That being said a sprit of the dead can't overwhelm the shadow of someone who's still alive and could only do that much The blue flames with Ryuma is something a little harder to explain besides just looking cool and can only offer a theory. One thing you left out about what a blue flame symbolizes. is that in Japan it represents anything ghost related and the supernatural. Maybe the real Ryuma at some point managed to take control of his long dead body during and after the fight in order to fight Zoro himself and/or pay his respects to a fellow swordsmen. But who knows, maybe the blue flame was added to make the fight look more badass (which it did)
Some of your predictions will happen in about.... Idk, 500 more episodes perhaps? So actually something DID happen. What I'm trying to say is come back to this video often 😅
Brook is a pervert just like sanji
His insanity thing is speculation in usually just people trying to justify his behaviour.
@@user-gk6nt5gi5n , Brook being way more perverted than Sanji actually makes logical sense in the narrative of One Piece whereas Sanji is and will always be the biggest simp of all time, and he’s never going to be more badass than Zoro in combat.

Yep, the Oars fight is the first time the ENTIRE CREW gangs up to defeat a single target by working together, and it was spectacular.
Korotos : "I don't like the whole speed of light thing"
The Next Arc : Sweat intensely
Luffy is nowhere near the speed of light
@@markmayer5875 Yeah but with observation haki you don't dodge the speed of light, you evade the move before it's thrown and then you hit the Logia user with armament haki.

omething to point out: pacifista doesn't mean he's a pacifist, it means kuma was created with the function of 'pacifying' pirates with this unscalable power, so basically the name means he was made to be something that will crush pirates and stop their rampaging and fighting
Yeah people often mistake that, it is weird how close the spelling is on those on the first place.
is kuma revealed to be a cyborg at thriller bark?
@@evankrueger7321 after he’s wounded yeah
the name pacifist is just govt propaganda. like in our world, there are no more navy "destroyers", they're now called "cruisers." that's imp't. in international relations.
I mean depending on your first language it can be really confusing. As a portuguese speaker myself, the name pacifista directly translates to pacifist. So people mistaking it is understandable. It it was name pacifier or pacificador in portuguese (and i believe in spanish) it would be less confusing.
Fun fact: in 1992 (before OP) Oda wrote a series of short stories, in one of them Ryuma is the main character.

@@maazgundagi3344 he commented this before the anime
I think you missed something about Moria. His DF represents what he became. After he lost his entire crew to Kaido, he become a shadow of him self. He now uses zombies to do his bidding, that are easyly replaceable instead of having a crew he can trust, work wth and have the option of loosing again. He become depressed, also represented in how he lives in the foggy shadows in the Florian Triangle.
Also, a metaphor, only after winning against depresion (gaining your shadow back), you can enjoy life (the sunlight)
And to add, about Brook, he's been 50 alone in the darkness, trapped with the bodies of his fallen crewmates.
Exactly!! Any fruit can be good in the hands of the right person.
I actually didn’t knows that. That explains how an idiot like Enel could be as strong as he was though
Kumas fruit is allready OP on paper he just adds a little bullshut to it
moria's df is my favorite in the series. every user in its history have diff interpretations of it.
I've always seen the DF encyclopedia as basically just a compendium of what fruits have already been documented, but since there's so many and it seems like only one of each can exist at a time, it's probably rare to have entries that detail both the fruits' powers and appearance.
What if DF encyclopedia is something that only some select families have?
(the rarity thing is only mentioned by the author so it's not actually an in story spoiler)
Some interesting trivia about the song Binks' Sake.
Not sure what you know or don't know about "how people know what devil fruits are what" but I'll clarify here:
At the point you are at, it can be speculated that the devil fruit encyclopedia is probably just a list of fruits and their powers, and a picture of what the fruit looks like. Each fruit looks different.
The encyclopedia is probably just incomplete, Kaku's and Kalifa's fruits weren't in it, while the Darkness Darkness fruit and Clear Clear fruit were.
To add to the explanation: some fruits may have only the description of the power, not a picture, like, maybe Kaku's fruit had the name and description but no picture in the book
basically that
also from the wiki:
There is a Devil Fruit Encyclopedia that lists the names and powers of all the Devil Fruits.
Everything that comes after "places." is kinda nonsense if you think about it, but that ability has given us some of the absolute best moments in One Piece
there are 2 things Oda has openly stated he is an enemy of
1 character revivals
2 old glories now weak
for 1, since a child he allways hated the character dies now we bring him back to life plots, he thus rarely kills characters, since he feels he can use them again later
for 2, its the reason many old men and woman are absurdly strong, he dislikes the idea that with age alone someone becomes weak and feeble, so, unless there is another factor i play, old people remain strong, what these other factors can be are either sickness, or the character wasting itself, an example of the latter is actually Moria, there are shots of him at the time he fought Kaido, and he was built, but after his loss, he really wasted himself, so yeah, the Moria they fough was actually weaker than the one who lost against Kaido
I loved that Oda used the Bear Trope for Bartholomew Kuma - “Because of this, throwing a bear into a scene is the best way to let the audience know that our heroes have gone beyond rock bottom and are now totally screwed.”
Eh, sure Nothing Happened this arc, but at least we got to meet the Ghost Princess, so I suppose we came out in top.
Oh hey, is that Monkey D Dragon?
Why are so many people mad about Sanji's reason for wanting the clear-clear fruit, but they're okay with Nami telling Lola that it's okay to marry Absalom while he's unconscious. Yeah, fire with fire, but still.
Because we all hate Absalom
Perona:
- Has the ability to produce these ghosts that she can control.
The end.)
Just wait until the hobby hobby fruit xD I mean maybe not as complicated as these two, but way less consistent

You're like the 3rd reactor I've seen so up in arms about Sanji's confessions and I think you're all absolute prudes. I find it hilarious XD
the devil fruit book only lists the effects and power of the devil fruits previously used, so its basically a huge list that says stuff like "the gomu gomu no mi fruit: turns you into a rubber man and allows your body to be elastic" and stuff like that, but they don't know how most of them look like, so it's basicaly a gamble on wich fruit are you eating
unless the previous user described how the fruit looks like, so that's probably why black beard knew how his darkness fruit looked like
32:22 I think that’s a bit unfair to say there were zero stakes, as a weekly reader at the time I genuinely thought Oda might kill Zoro or Sanji at that point, we had just lost Merry.
Korotos, Cindry crying was all about Soul... something we learned is very much a REAL thing just this arc
Personally I think going from silly to serious is apart of one pieces charm, it’s what one piece is known for.. you see these silly designs and think it’s going to be a silly show but it’s actually about politics
Exactly! That's one of the reasons Luffy is a rubberman to begin with.
Dude, I'm so anxious for you to see the saobody arc, the story just gets better and better
Like another comment said, you seem to have kinda missed the interpretation of brooks perv jokes, but also, a la merphy napier, itd be nice if they choice some other joke interactions to showcase his madness, rather than only the panty one
You actually got the pronounciation of Owazamono pretty spot on haha
🙌
Let me guess ur most hated is in fmi?
That was bad writing end of story.
you asked about the inconsistencies in animation.
so both money and talent are limited, and it's common practice for long running anime to use only a minimum of money and talent most of the time, and focus lots of money and talent on the important scenes.
since people mostly the important scenes, they will remember the whole series as being good looking.
did it cross your mind, that a skeleton man that is alone for 50 years has some lust in his bones.
The Sanji Joke with the Clear Fruit is the best joke in the whole series but nobody can admit it
I loved the “nothing happened” scene. It just shows how loyal and dedicated he is to Luffy. Definitely the best first mate a captain can have 😁
Thank you so much for these.
Also, the fact that Sanji wanted the invisibility power when he was a child clearly points out subtly that peeping is not the original reason Sanji wanted the at least when he was a child when he first desired for it after seeing in the encyclopedia , (because he desperately wanted to be invisible during his childhood under the circumstances he was in with people like ichiji, niji, yonji, and Judge around him)
But later after leaving and while growing up, his libido creeps into his subconscious, adding up as a layer unto his original desire for the invisibility fruit.
A bit of trivia for you and this arc
You may have issues with a bunch of the laughs in this arc, but in case you didn't realize; Oda like to give just about everyone a unique sounding laugh. It's actually a fun touch that he does, though clearly some aren't going to work well as others
Believe it or not, the Wano Samurai known as Ryuma and his creation actual predate all of One Piece as a younger version of him was the main character of a one shot manga back in 94 known as Monsters. This arc basically makes Monsters cannon to One Piece as it takes place hundreds of years before the events of One Piece
Finlay be aware that there are some things that are explained on or given more detail in a comment section of the manga that the anime doesn't go over.
By being a pervert?
Not really a ptsd thing more a lack of social understanding after being alone for so long. (Though he certainly COULD have ptsd as well)
@@SolitaryLark This.
It's a popular explanation but there's no canon confirmation yet to be clear.
i'm more pervert without ptsd. so, no.
I like Brooks because it's obvious he's been alone for so very very long. He's insane. I love him.
actually something did happen about the animation!
Going from such intense arc before Thriller Bark I really enjoyed this spooky funny arc with some amazing character moments
One thing I love about this arc that I'll comment about before getting to it in the video is I love that the weaker half of a the crew reach the island first and have a hard time but when the stronger half reach the island they breeze through it like nothing
This arc also has two of my favourite moments
When they are fighting as the sun is rising in the shadow of moria inspiring the others to jot give up and obviously the nothing happened scene
People hate on this arc and I can see why but looking at it from the perspective of a overarching story rather then a solo arc makes it more enjoyable
Oh boy! U Will love the next part of the story, its gonna be Wild
Having your videos be non-chronological helps those of us who've seen this story before have multiple "oh yeah, that happened here" moments. Changing up the delivery allows us to follow many of the connectiins you made while reminding us that, actually, something did happen.
👀
@@Koroto I hope that made sense. It was a long day at work, & your videos can help unwind.
I did notice the change in scripting with how you jumbled Kuma's appearance in the arc. And I thought it was well done!
16:19
sanji wants to spy on woman, yes is gross but its a joke from a different culture
not rape them
40:06
the panties joke from brook makes him even more funny because is a weird thing from a 60+ mentally ill skeleton to ask you for panties
I like how you structured the video!👍
I don't think it's a spoiler because it was a q&a but zoro is related to the zombie he fought though its a distant ancestor
Sad" "he watched a woman shower it's such an disgusting act" like why do a lot of the TH-cam rs in this genre keep treating peeping worse that straight up butchering folks or slavery
tons of people like to say that nothing happens in this arc but actually something did happen, we got the best laugh in the series shi-shi-shi-shi-shi
I think the fact that in a Halloween setting, creepy laughs are to be expected. I was expecting even the zombies to have creepy laugh.
Zoro and sanji don't hate each other and they never have. They are in agreement for the most critical matters and have each others back all the time
If you hadnt notice, Kuma had a monologue at the end of the arc saying "as expected of your son, dragon"
In One Piece, the more general the power description is, the more powerful you are
Great video :) Keep up the good work!
The next arc is gonna be fire 🔥 it's my favorite arc!
With Kuma's abilities. He can (doesn't mean he always does) repel things at the speed of light. If he repelled himself, though, how would that look given the speed? Almost as if he was instantly teleporting.
Luffy pushing the zombie back into his grave is my favourite scene and I've seen 700 episodes so far
Great video,I love Thriller Bark but I understand your complains. The next arc is AMAZING and you are not ready for the Marine Ford saga
I like the new video structure!
Came to your channel for walking dead. And you’re reviewing one piece ? Subscribed
Welcome aboard! 🏴☠️
Make sure to get some rest, mad respect putting out such good contenet on top of 100h work weeks
I was gonna explain the Devil fruit being documented but it’s a lore drop in the future arc so wait on that a bit.
47:15 BRO WHAT?? I hope you took many breaks. I hope you’re doing well.
All fruits are unique, but not singular. When a fruit user dies, the fruit regrows somewhere in the world, like how Sabo got Ace's fruit.
He came close with his Wano theory. He is good theorist.
Somebody should inform him that Ryuma is from Oda's One Shot Manga "Wanted".
Actually something did happen that you didn't get
Going to explain a few things to you that Don't involve spoilers that you didn't understand
First off Moria's powers.
SEE PART 2
PART 2
Your hangups with Cindry can be explained when you think about it. That being said a sprit of the dead can't overwhelm the shadow of someone who's still alive and could only do that much
The blue flames with Ryuma is something a little harder to explain besides just looking cool and can only offer a theory. But who knows, maybe the blue flame was added to make the fight look more badass (which it did)
Orange shirt Luffy really hits different for some reason. Especially in contrast to the dark purple color scheme of the rets of the arc.
I was waiting!!!!!!!!!
Some of your predictions will happen in about.... Idk, 500 more episodes perhaps? So actually something DID happen.
What I'm trying to say is come back to this video often 😅
